Collaborative or Combative: Why You Communicate the Way You Do

Kate Hastings Show

This episode is about what is really happening underneath the way you communicate when things get hard. So many of us default to being combative in conflict, not because we are difficult people, but because we are carrying wounds that learned to speak before we ever figured out who we actually were. For years I was stuck in defense mode because the only thing doing the talking was a wound that kept telling me I am not enough and I am not worthy. That made it impossible to hear what anyone was actually saying to me because I was too busy interpreting everything through the lens of what I believed they thought about me. In this episode we go into why your nervous system takes over before your brain catches up, how your body communicates threat to the other person before you even open your mouth, and what your patterns in conflict are actually costing the people closest to you. We also talk about what collaborative communication really looks like, because it is not about being nicer or softer. It is about being grounded enough in who you are to hold your position without destroying the person in front of you or yourself. This is the shift from communicating out of your wounds to communicating out of who you are becoming.

Hegseth accused the media of misrepresenting battlefield progress and promoting what he called misleading or sensational headlines. He claimed Iran’s military capabilities have been severely degraded, citing steep declines in missile and drone attacks, even as fighting continues and U.S. casualties have mounted. AC 7977. With those who are of the spiritual church all good is acquired by means of truth, because without the truth which is of faith they do not know what spiritual truth is, nor what spiritual good is. They are indeed capable of knowing civil truth, also moral truth, and their goods, because they are concordant with things which are in the world, whence also they have a perception of these truths and goods. But spiritual truth and its good are not concordant with those things which are in the world, and in many cases are even quite at variance with them, and therefore those of the spiritual church have to be instructed about them. These things have been said to show that with those who are of the spiritual church all good must be acquired by means of truth.  AC 7975. For with those who are of the spiritual church the case is this. They have genuine goods and truths, and they have goods and truths not genuine; for the man of the spiritual church has no perception of good and truth, but acknowledges and believes as good and truth that which the doctrinal things of his church teach. For this reason he is in very many truths not genuine, consequently also in like goods, for goods have their quality from truths. That the spiritual are in very many truths not genuine, see n. 2708, 2715, 2718, 2831, 2849, 2935, 2937, 3240, 3241, 3246, 3833, 4402, 4788, 5113, 6289, 6500, 6639, 6865, 6945, 7233; and that consequently they have truths not pure (n. 6427). But still they are kept by the Lord in goods in the highest degree genuine, which is effected by means of an influx through the interiors (n. 6499), and then the truths and goods not genuine are separated thence and rejected to the sides. These are the things which are signified by “a very great mixed multitude.” AC 7966(2). These are the two states in which they who are of the spiritual church, when in good, are kept by the Lord-the first, that from the good which is of the will they see and think truth; the second, that from this marriage of good and truth they produce truths, which by willing them and doing them, again become goods, and so on continually. Such are the productions and derivations of truth with those who are of the spiritual church. In the spiritual world this is presented representatively as a tree with leaves and fruits; the leaves there are truths; the fruits are the goods of truth; the seeds are the goods themselves, from which are the rest. AC 7990. They are said to be in spiritual captivity who as to their interiors are kept by the Lord in good and truth, but as to their exteriors are kept by hell in evil and falsity, whence there is a combat of the external man with the internal. In this state are those kept who are being infested; and then the Lord by influx through the interiors fights for them against the afflux of evil and falsity from the hells. They are then kept as it were captive, for through influx from the Lord they desire to be in good and truth, but through the afflux from the hells they seem to themselves not to be able. This combat takes place to the end that the external man may be reduced to obedience to the internal, and thus natural things be made subordinate to spiritual things. Third Round posts are short audio clips taken from Round 3 comments in the online Logopraxis Life Group meetings. The aim is to maintain focus on understanding the Text's application to the inner life while reinforcing key LP principles highlighted in the exchanges.

In its lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase & Co., the Government of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) alleged that the bank knowingly facilitated, sustained, and concealed the sex-trafficking network operated by Jeffrey Epstein by continuing to provide him banking services long after red flags should have alerted JPMorgan to his misconduct. The complaint, filed in late 2022 by then-Attorney General Denise George, sought at least $190 million in damages and accused JPMorgan of ignoring warning signs, failing to file required suspicious-activity reports, and effectively “turning a blind eye” to transactions supporting Epstein's operations—including in the territory where his Little St. James Island is located. The USVI also asked the court to declare that the bank participated in Epstein's trafficking venture and obstructed enforcement of anti-trafficking laws.JPMorgan responded to these claims with testy and defensive filings, pushing back against the USVI's legal theories and seeking to limit the scope of discovery and liability. The bank argued that the territory itself bore responsibility for enabling Epstein by offering tax incentives and lax oversight, and it sought to have key claims dismissed or narrowed—including arguing that top executives like CEO Jamie Dimon were irrelevant to the case and should not be deposed. JPMorgan also contended that the USVI had already obtained a large volume of documents in prior litigation and that additional demands were a “fishing expedition.” Ultimately, rather than go to trial, JPMorgan agreed in 2023 to a $75 million settlement with the USVI to resolve the dispute, without admitting wrongdoing, including funds directed toward supporting anti-trafficking efforts in the territory.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

The FBI treated him like an enemy of the state simply because he stood with President Trump. This episode exposes the truth: under Biden’s DOJ, conservatives aren’t citizens to be protected—they’re targets to be destroyed. The audio is of the FBI agents serving Navarro with a subpoena, they claimed the interaction was "Combative" to justify the use of a military style take down during his ultimate arrest. The audio tells a much different story. It's not just Navarro that was illegally targeted by the FBI. The Biden FBI had a target on Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA as well. This stunning revelation came from Sen. Chuck Grassley during the Kash Patel hearing yesterday. This isn’t law enforcement; it’s political warfare. Ever wonder why people don't take you seriously—even when you're smart and hardworking? In this episode, AJ and Johnny reveal the three most common low value signals that quietly repel respect: being supplicative (begging for approval), combative (using force or intimidation), and competitive (constantly one-upping). Backed by research from UCLA, Harvard, and game theory, they explain how these blind spots sabotage influence and connection—and how to flip them into high value behaviors that attract trust, respect, and opportunity. You'll learn why excessive apologizing, fake “alpha” dominance, and relentless bragging send the wrong message, and how small shifts—like standing tall, reframing with “we” language, and spotlighting others—instantly change how people respond to you. Welcome to the John Hallett PodcastHey everybody, welcome back to the John Hallett Podcast! Today we're diving deep into combative zones and action zones — the various distances and decision points you face in a real-life self-defense situation. These are critical concepts for anyone serious about their personal protection, especially those training in Krav Maga and other martial arts.We want to thank our growing community of listeners. If you want to support the podcast and our mission, check out SuckLess.co, our online training portal ClearSky.Training, and of course, our in-person programs at Rocky Mountain Self Defense & Fitness.Training the Mind and the BodySelf-defense isn't just a mental game. It's not enough to understand concepts — you have to train them physically. You have to push yourself, challenge your excuses, and build real-world skills through hard training. That's why I still do things like cold plunges. Not because I love it, but because it builds mental resilience. That mindset translates directly to self-defense. The world isn't getting safer, and we all need to be ready to act, not just think.Let's Talk ZonesWhen we break down combative zones, we're talking about the physical distance between you and a potential threat. Each zone requires different skills, awareness, and action. Here's a breakdown:Zone 4: Awareness (15–25 ft)This is your first line of defense — the decision-making zone. Can you spot a threat before it becomes an attack? You have a few seconds (maybe less) to:Recognize threatsCreate distanceCall 911Use command presence or verbal de-escalationThis zone is fluid. Someone athletic can close that gap in under 2 seconds. Train your awareness and threat recognition here.Zone 3: Engagement Prep (10–15 ft)Things are escalating. You may need to:Use tactical movement (create angles or barriers)Deploy a front kick to keep someone backConsider a weapon draw (only if truly justified)Training the front kick is essential here. But if you mistime it, you're vulnerable. Practice with movement. Don't just hit pads.Zone 2: Striking Range (5–10 ft)This is where people freeze up. You're now in a fight whether you like it or not.You must strike first if the threat is imminentWeapons like knives or guns may come outThis is not the time to reach for pepper spray or a firearm unless you've created the space to safely do soZone 1: Clinch / Close-Quarters (0–5 ft)Welcome to the worst-case scenario. You're being grabbed, taken down, or attacked with deadly intent. Now it's:Elbows, knees, headbutts (if trained)Weapon redirection and controlRelentless attack until the threat is neutralizedLadies: if someone is close enough to grab you, there is no half-measure. Be overwhelming in your response. Training breeds confidence and control in these critical moments.Reality-Based Training: Citizen Defender ClassThis is exactly what we do in our Citizen Defender class at RMSDF. You can't just train on a flat range and expect to perform under stress. You need:Stress inoculationScenario drills (Quantum Leap drills, for example)Close-quarters decision-makingWe train everything from pre-fight indicators to 911 protocol and what to say after a defensive incident. These are the real-life details that make the difference.Don't Wait. Train Now.Every day you delay is another day you remain unprepared. Our Clear Sky Training Portal lets you train from anywhere. And if you're local to Castle Rock, come train in person. You don't need to be fit. You just need to start. And for new listeners: we're offering one month free to get started. No excuses. No delays.Visit RMSDF.com and ClearSky.Training to start your journey. We promise, you can do this. You just have to show up.Up Next on the Podcast Stay tuned for future episodes on:Time Hierarchy in Training5 Elements of Self-Defense LawDegrees of AssaultThe Truth About Martial Arts Failure RatesWhat to Do After a Self-Defense IncidentTrain smart. Starting a franchise isn't just a business move—it's a mindset shift. In Part Two, James Hilovsky—former athlete turned franchise consultant—goes beyond playbooks and into the real psychology of success. He explores why some athletes stumble when they let ego overtake strategy, how corporate professionals can regain control after layoffs, and why betting on yourself only works when you're honest about what kind of help you need. From risk tolerance to leadership, coachability to due diligence, this episode is packed with reality checks and real encouragement for anyone eyeing a second career through franchising. Whether you're leaving the field or the boardroom, this is your roadmap for moving forward without going it alone.Key Highlights of Our Interview:When Ego Derails the Dream“Some athletes think, ‘I can do it better than the franchisor.' That mindset usually ends badly.”Coachable or Combative? Know the Difference“If you hated taking advice on the field, franchising might not be for you. Try entrepreneurship instead.”From Control to Chaos: Managing the Transition“Athletes are used to structure. Business is messy. That gap has to be managed with education and support.”Risk Is a Feature, Not a Bug“Franchising reduces risk—but it doesn't remove it. You still have to lead, decide, and adapt.”Franchisor as Business Partner, Not Boss“The best franchisors act like coaches. They'll guide you—but they won't run the plays for you.”Red Flags in the Franchise World“If someone tells you it's a ‘hands-off' business or dodges your due diligence questions—run.”Advice for Non-Athletes“If fear is stopping you, ask yourself: what's the real cost of staying stuck?”Doing the Homework Before the Leap“Talk to existing franchisees. Read the FDD. And never skip the financials.”The Impact That Keeps Him Going“I love helping people find a franchise they didn't even know existed—and watching it change their lives.”_________________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: James Hilovsky  --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously.
