On July 22, 2001, 28-year-old Niqui McCown went to do laundry in Richmond, Indiana, just weeks before her wedding day. After finishing her laundry, she planned to go home and work on wedding invitations, but she never made it back. The next morning, her fiancé reported her missing. For months there was no trace of her, until November, when her SUV was found abandoned in Dayton, Ohio, with her clean laundry still folded inside. But Niqui was nowhere to be found. More than twenty years later, Niqui's disappearance remains unsolved. Her family is still searching, holding onto hope that one day they will finally learn the truth and bring her home. Matt Crawford speaks with veteran costume designer and author Marjorie McCown about her new novel Star struck: A Hollywood Mystery. Costumer designer Joey Jessop is working on a 1930's Hollywood period piece with two of its biggest stars. After she witnesses a hit-and-run near the set, she realizes the car may belong to the movies female lead, Gillian Best. What follows is a great whodunit with the flare and style of Hollywood that lifts the veil on an unappreciated part of movie making. McCown and I also discuss her decades long work as a costume designer to some of the biggest stars and what her craft entails.

Niqui McCown was a 28-year-old mother living in Richmond, Indiana, with her 9-year-old daughter, Payton, and her fiancé, Bobby Webster. In July of 2001, they were 3 weeks away from their wedding, and Niqui was said to have been very excited. But on the 22nd of that month, she vanished. After going to church that morning, she took some clothes to the laundromat, and rather than wait around for them to be ready, she went to her mother's house, who lived not too far away. When she got there, she explained that she was being harassed by two men, and so her mom advised her to get her clothes and come back over. But after Niqui left, she was never seen again. Suspicion fell on her fiancé for a while, and it also fell on Payton's father. But the true main suspect was her coworker, Tommy Swint. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Tommy was responsible for the murder of a woman back in 1991. But before any arrests could be made, Tommy took his life. Many believe he also took the answers as to what happened to Niqui with him.
