The Measure of a Man". Seek Yourself First. Richard Ayling discusses re-imagining masculinity and moving beyond traditional gender roles. He believes that societal expectations placed upon men are causing suffering and that the terms 'masculinity' and 'femininity' are fundamentally unhelpful. Ayling emphasizes the importance of men being free from expectations and embracing their human qualities. He also highlights the need for men to communicate, express vulnerability, and develop healthy relationships with each other. Men's groups provide a space for men to relate to each other without competition and support each other in owning their experiences. Ayling suggests that normalizing conversations about men's struggles is crucial for progress. The conversation explores the importance of normalizing conversations around men's mental health and the need for men's groups to support each other. It discusses the societal expectation for men to be financially successful and the impact on their mental health. The conversation also touches on the role of men in relationships and the need to challenge traditional gender roles. The approach of creating safe spaces for men to be seen and heard is highlighted, along with the importance of self-awareness, gentle authority, and compassion in a coach or facilitator. Rudyard Kipling's poem "If" often finds home on the wall and in the minds of great men. It leads the reader through a series of character traits that make a man, opening with the line "If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; "Throughout history, mankind has asked what it is that makes a man truly a man. Sometimes this question boils down to metaphysics, asking what it is about a being that makes them a man. In recent times even biology has been called into question, albeit comically. Yet the most personal context of this question often eats at the hearts of men as they live their lives in search of and fulfillment of the answer. The concept of composure has found itself baked into mens fashion, and different eras of masculinity. We find something truly great about a man who can keep a cool head under pressure, and have even seen the rise of attacking that point of vulnerability to set a trap. For its 35th anniversary, we're revisiting Star Trek: The Next Generation's "TheMeasure of a Man" -- an all-timer episode of both TNG and all of Trek. It's the one where Picard battles Riker to defend Data's right to be, well, Data. Is he a person, or property? It's a classic Trek-ian argument played out here to courtroom drama perfection, in an episode that holds up especially well after 35 years -- BUT, it's an episode that Gene Roddenberry almost killed. Why? Listen now to find out!

How often do we measure and compare ourselves against ourselves or others-- If we do that, then we will always be good, ahead, right, like others, cutting others out, and more. It leads to jealousy, pride, self, poor character, and other follies. What we need is to measure ourselves against a standard- the requirements of God and character of the Redeemer.

The Cardinals are about to open the regular season in Washington, and that's when a team is truly measured. At least that's what Paul Calvisi sees as he discusses what is to come with Darren Urban and fill-in Zach Gershman, who is on hand with Dani Sureck on assignment. Not that Zach can help with the segment of memorable Washington trips past, including Pat Tillman's final game in 2001, but it's all voices on deck when chatting about the quarterback battle and how Joshua Dobbs seems likely to start. The trio also talk about Kyler's captaincy, the guess for breakout players, how to work the practice squad and the age of Zaven Collins – which still is older than Zach.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
