She thought she was losing her mind. Turns out menopause crashed her systems and ADHD was under it all. The world doesn't care—it just calls you unreliable.   In This Episode: What happens when menopause wipes out the ADHD coping strategies you didn't know you had Society's double standard for women with ADHD in the workplace Judgment, masking, and why the world still won't adapt even when you do   What You'll Take Away: Fumbling at work wasn't dementia—it was hormonal change unmasking ADHD Discipline and willpower were just a side effect of estrogen, not character Getting an ADHD diagnosis delivers knowledge, not instant relief No one told women what menopause would really do—least of all to ADHD brains Judgment from others doesn't stop just because you know what's going on   ABOUT THIS EPISODE This episode of The Impulsive Thinker® hits hard on what happens when menopause throws ADHD Entrepreneurs off their game. Vicki Noels-Cornish's lived experience forces a real look at hormonal shifts, lost coping strategies, and brutal workplace consequences. ADHD, entrepreneurship, and menopause—the hidden connections get called out. Forget the standard clinical talk. The Impulsive Thinker® lays out the raw realities for neurodivergent women in business. It's a "blame the woman" world—ADHD burnout, masking, and societal expectations come into sharp focus. Loss of self, job risks, and the weight of judgment aren't just talking points here—they're lived experience. Menopause and ADHD collide, and nobody warned you what that wreck would look like. This is for ADHD Entrepreneurs running the show on fumes, blamed for every crack in the facade, and tired of pretending. If your brain's dropped the ball and the world called you broken, hit play.   Email me about it at andre@theimpulsivethinker.com. Remember — ADHD failure is measured on society's measuring stick. Not yours. Your brain runs on interest, not importance. That's not a flaw. That's a different operating system. ADHD is not a deficit. You didn't fail at being "a good girl." The standard was impossible from the start. ADHD women spend their whole lives playing a game they can't win—then get blamed for losing.   In This Episode: The real history and weight of ADHD stigma for women and girls How perfectionism and impossible standards mask real ADHD needs Why internalized shame hits harder than ignorance or bias from others   What You'll Take Away: Society doesn't just misunderstand ADHD in women. It makes girls punish themselves for it. Perfectionism is a survival tool when the rules were never built for you. Masking breaks down—often right when life gets hardest. The ADHD entrepreneur brain isn't flawed. It just doesn't fit society's measuring stick. Owning your difference is survival, not selfishness.   ABOUT THIS EPISODE This episode of The Impulsive Thinker® cuts into ADHD stigma for women in entrepreneurship to expose where internalized shame does the most damage. The episode drills into expectations of perfection, masking, and why so many ADHD Entrepreneur women feel broken before they even get a diagnosis. Social norms demand women do everything effortlessly—plus mask every ADHD trait. That pressure erases real identities. André rips into how these standards lead to losing track of who you are. Perfection, masking, and chasing what others want cost ADHD entrepreneurs time, confidence, and mental health. If you're sick of being told you're failing someone else's test, this one's for you. You keep your head down, play nice, and still get steamrolled by everyone else's expectations. ADHD isn't the problem — it's the world that ignores how you operate. The Impulsive Thinker® and Dr. Stephen Hinshaw call out what everyone else misses about masking, silence, and the cost of being invisible.   In This Episode: ADHD in women and girls — what masking really costs The hidden dangers of suffering in silence Research-backed risks that follow when nobody notices   What You'll Take Away: Masking is survival, but it comes at a brutal personal cost For women and girls with ADHD, problems snowball until they're unavoidable Suffering in silence leads to real-world risks — including mental health and relationships Negative outcomes aren't fate when the right support shows up One or two people who "get it" can turn everything around   ABOUT THIS EPISODE This episode of The Impulsive Thinker® puts a spotlight on ADHD in women and girls, breaking down the silent damage masking causes. The Impulsive Thinker® pushes the conversation past clichés to show how suffering in silence compounds over years. Real data, not empty reassurance — everything discussed has lived experience and research behind it. If you've been told you're not trying hard enough, or if hiding has become your norm, this is why it matters in your business and life. Built for ADHD entrepreneurs tired of invisible struggles. What if your "train wreck" 20s and 30s weren't failure at all — just everyone missing your ADHD diagnosis? The Impulsive Thinker® and Dr. Stephen Hinshaw destroy the old stereotypes on women, masking, and why success leaves so many suffering in silence.   In This Episode: What decades-long studies of girls with ADHD actually reveal How masking, missed signs, and stigma sabotage real ADHD Entrepreneur strengths Why negative outcomes are high risk — but not destiny   What You'll Take Away: ADHD in women is missed, not rare — the classic "boy" symptoms don't fit Depression, self-injury, and unplanned chaos spike when diagnosis and support come late Masking isn't resilience — it's losing yourself because fitting in means survival Early signs in girls are spacey, scattered, "lazy," not loud or disruptive Real friends and strategic support matter more than popularity or the perfect image   GUEST BIO Dr. Stephen Hinshaw is a psychology professor at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco. Hear why most research ignored girls and what that cost in missed diagnoses, shame, and chaos. The episode digs into masking, self-injury, unplanned life consequences, and why classic ADHD stereotypes hurt more than help. Resilience, masking, and entrepreneurial strengths are redefined — no fluff, just blunt reality. This is for ADHD Entrepreneurs sick of society's measuring stick and shallow advice. FREE RESOURCE:  Click the link and see if the SHED METABOLIC RESET PROGRAM is a good fit for you!  FREE RESOURCE:  Sign up HERE for Dr. Tara's free talk on Perimenopause & Weight Gain happening on Wednesday, April 29th at 7pm   This episode explores the complex hormonal and metabolic changes during perimenopause that impact weight loss.  Dr. Tara and Dr. Michelle share insights on hormonal fluctuations, muscle mass, stress, sleep, and mindset, offering practical strategies for women navigating this challenging phase.   Takeaways Perimenopause weight gain is not a willpower issue, it's driven by real hormonal and metabolic shifts. Hormones don't just decline, they fluctuate, making symptoms unpredictable and confusing. Loss of muscle mass lowers metabolism, making it easier to gain weight without changing your diet. Fat distribution shifts toward the abdomen, increasing visceral fat and health risks. Insulin resistance and cortisol elevation make fat loss harder and increase hunger. Poor sleep and chronic stress amplify weight gain and disrupt metabolism. Old strategies like excessive cardio or fasting often stop working in this phase of life. Strength training and building muscle are essential for long-term metabolic health. Proper nutrition, especially enough protein, fiber, and balanced meals becomes more important than ever. Nervous system regulation and true rest are key drivers of weight loss and overall health. Weight loss resistance is also emotional and behavioral, not just physical. Building self-awareness, self-trust, and compassion is critical for sustainable results. You are not broken, your body requires a new approach in this phase of life.   Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Episode Overview 03:37 Defining Perimenopause and Its Symptoms 04:28 Hormonal Fluctuations and Diagnosis Challenges 06:55 Hormones and Metabolic Changes in Perimenopause 10:27 Hormonal Impact on Body Fat Redistribution 12:07 The Role of Muscle Mass and Metabolism 16:18 Importance of Resistance Training and Building Muscle 18:52 Visceral Fat and Health Risks 21:59 Body Image, Grief, and Societal Expectations 26:26 Hormonal and Metabolic Interconnections 31:44 Sleep Disruption and Its Effects 33:27 Movement, Exercise, and Building Strength 36:49 Nutrition, Carbohydrates, and Blood Sugar 41:26 Stress, Cortisol, and Nervous System Impact 42:08 Joy, Self-Compassion, and Emotional Well-being 47:35 Self-acceptance and Body Changes 51:57 Mindset, Self-Trust, and Empowerment 56:26 The Role of Education and Self-knowledge 01:01:19 Supporting Long-term Transformation and Self-Discovery 01:03:19 Upcoming Masterclass and Resources   Stay Wild. This week I talked to attorney and writer Savala Nolan. Her newest book, Good Woman, which was named a Most Anticipated Feminist Book of 2026 by Ms. Magazine, is out now. I got to read an early copy and loved it. She writes with raw honesty about making herself smaller, both literally and metaphorically, in order to be a good daughter, a good wife, a good mother, and all the ways she allowed herself to be diminished to keep the peace, and how many others do this too. The 12 essays blend cultural commentary, personal experience, reportage, and history. We talked about the vulnerable process of writing a personal book of essays, including writing about divorce, motherhood, and the importance of respecting one's appetite in every way, from creative to physical. I always love talking to Savala and loved getting to catch up with her here. Let us know if you listen.

She's also the author of 'Help Me!', as well as being a journalist. This conversation came off the back of a phone call that Marianne and I had several weeks ago where we talked about everything from how vulnerable it feels to put a book out into the world, to our very different experiences of sex in the past and in the present, to the wonderful things about being single and not having kids; and at the end of that chat we decided she needed to come back on the podcast to try out best to recreate our conversation for you! You're definitely going to want to listen the whole way through — trust me. We cover all manner of things from the vulnerability of writing personal stories, to the importance of connection, and the challenges and joys of navigating singlehood. This engaging conversation touches upon key themes like societal expectations, the need for self-validation, and the broader spectrum of relationships that can fill our lives with meaning and joy.04:50 Marianne's Journey and Book Insights10:36 Societal Expectations and Personal Validation28:14 The Importance of Connection36:22 Exploring Conscious Sexuality43:47 Finding Joy in Being Single43:56 The Importance of Touch and Connection44:47 Breaking Relationship Norms45:47 Discussing Our Books and Public Perception46:44 Marianne's Mortifying Festival Talk (that turned to be a roaring success)48:58 Overcoming Shame and Embracing Honesty53:23 Audience Reactions and Validation57:54 The Struggle of Public Vulnerability01:12:01 The Importance of Self-Validation01:13:50 Wrapping Up and Future PlansBuy Marianne's book, Love Me!: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Me-womans-search-happy/dp/1529057884Sign up to Marianne's Substack: https://helpmenewsletter.substack.com/Follow Marianne on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/marianne_power_writer/?hl=enSupport the showOrder my book, SHINY HAPPY SINGLES (UK) / THRIVE SOLO (US & Canada) at: https://www.lucymeggeson.com/book Download my FREE PDF 'The Top 10 Answers To The Most Irritating Questions That Single People Get Asked On The Regular...& How To (Devilishly) Respond'? Breaking Down Internalized Ableism  Summary In this conversation, Patricia explores the concept of internalized ableism, particularly among neurodivergent individuals. She discusses how societal stigma and expectations can lead to negative self-perceptions and feelings of inadequacy. Patricia shares personal experiences and insights on how internalized ableism manifests in various aspects of life, including relationships, self-acceptance, and the pressure to conform to neurotypical standards. She emphasizes the importance of unlearning these hurtful beliefs and embracing one's neurodivergent identity with compassion and understanding.   HIGHLIGHTS   ·       Internalized ableism is the unconscious adoption of negative beliefs about oneself due to societal stigma. ·       Neurodivergent individuals often feel pressure to conform to neurotypical standards, which can lead to trauma. ·       Resting is a valid need and should not be seen as a failure. ·       Asking for accommodations is essential for well-being and should not induce guilt. ·       The concept of 'high functioning' can be harmful and does not reflect true capabilities. ·       Time agnosia is a common experience for neurodivergent individuals. ·       Self-compassion is crucial in overcoming internalized ableism. ·       Relationships can be affected by the fear of being a burden. ·       Unlearning internalized ableism involves recognizing and challenging societal expectations. ·       Embracing neurodivergence includes acknowledging strengths and practicing self-acceptance. 115 SPECIFIC POINTS DISCUSSED 1.     How internalized ableism shows up in everyday life o   Masking, pushing through burnout, or feeling "lazy" when you're resting. 2.     Messages we absorbed growing up o   From school, parents, peers, or media about being "too much," "distracted," "weird," or "wrong." 3.     Perfectionism and people-pleasing as survival o   How needing to be “better” or “easy to manage” is often rooted in internalized shame. 4.     The trap of “not disabled enough” or “faking it” o   How we invalidate our own struggles because we don't “look” stereotypically disabled. 5.     ADHD, autism, OCD & “high-functioning” narratives o   The myth of being “high functioning” and how it reinforces ableist expectations. 6.     Feeling guilt for needing accommodations or rest o   That voice that says “you're being difficult” when you ask for what you actually need. 7.     Shame around executive dysfunction o   Struggling to start tasks, follow through, or manage time — and blaming yourself. 8.     Rejecting your own needs to fit in o   Forcing eye contact, avoiding stimming, hiding rituals, not using noise-canceling headphones in public, etc. 9.     The pressure to be “independent” all the time o   How internalized capitalism + ableism equates needing support with being a failure. 10.  Comparing yourself to neurotypical peers ·       Especially in productivity, relationships, or emotional regulation. 11.  “If I can do it sometimes, I should always be able to” myth ·       Inconsistent ability = inconsistent worth? Nope. Talk about spoon theory and fluctuating capacity. 12.  How OCD-specific traits are misunderstood or mocked ·       And how that seeps into how you see yourself (e.g., feeling “crazy,” “irrational,” or “a burden”). 13.  Internalized ableism in dating & relationships ·       Fear of being too much, too emotional, or too rigid — and minimizing yourself as a result. 14.  How healing looks like reclaiming your needs unapologetically ·       Self-accommodation, boundaries, rest, and neurodivergent joy as rebellion. 15.  Relearning self-compassion and identity pride ·       Ending with hope: unmasking, connecting with community, and defining success on your own terms.    SOUND BITES ·       "Rest is resistance." ·       "You are not broken." ·       "You deserve rest, joy, and support."    SENSITIVITY IS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR; IT'S HOW YOUR BRAIN IS WIRED You are not broken. You were shaped by systems that weren't built for you. You deserve rest, joy, and support exactly as you are.    CHAPTERS (please add time for addition of introduction) 00:00 Understanding Internalized Ableism 02:40 The Impact of Societal Expectations 05:31 Navigating Personal Experiences with Internalized Ableism 08:18 The Struggle for Accommodations 10:55 Executive Dysfunction and Inconsistent Abilities 14:01 The Pressure of Productivity 16:53 Feeling 'Not Enough' in Neurodivergence 19:43 Unlearning Internalized Ableism 22:27 Building Self-Compassion and Acceptance  PODCAST HOST Patricia was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 17 years, but she is now exclusively providing coaching. There's an appetite for a new model of masculinity.Men must create social value to be considered valuable.Identities are socially constructed and validated.A lack of guidance can lead to self-destructive behavior in men.Men need frameworks to channel their natural capacities.Strength in men should not be feared but guided. The dynamics of masculinity change with societal safety.Men must find purpose in service to their communities.Young men should seek to solve problems in their environment.Community and individual responsibility are intertwined.Connect with Dr Dante BryantWebsite: dbryan30Instagram: a_southernmanFree eBook Here: Mastering Self-Development: Strategies of the New Masculine: https://rebrand.ly/m2ebook⚔️JOIN THE NOBLE KNIGHTS MASTERMIND⚔️https://themodernmanpodcast.com/thenobleknights

In this podcast episode, Tonya Leigh explores the profound impact that this single word can have on our mental and emotional well-being. When we use "should," it typically conveys a sense of duty or correctness, suggesting that there is a right way to do things. This inherent judgment can lead to feelings of shame and guilt, ultimately hindering our personal growth and fulfillment. She shares a relatable story about a listener named Jeanette, who eagerly anticipates Tonya's annual Live Like an Editor workshop as a tool for success.
