Time to Restump Podcast the procuring of the points from the plucky Port Power players. While our mission to get into south Australia, secure the four points and get out again took a similar amount of time, we weren't exactly Delta Force commandos, executing a flawless raid and capture of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela!Sometimes you simply have to battle the monotony monster in the mind and just win. Sometimes no thrills or frills pays the bills. That was pretty much the summary of the comfortable win over Josh Carr's cabal.There was an air of supremacy about us and a sense of formality and while they're habits we don't want creeping in, to be fair, it's hard to be critical.Port Adelaide had nine of their best 23 out. No Zak Butters, no Jason Horne-Francis, no Connor Rozee and no Mitch Georgiades! So, it is a tad forgivable for allowing an infection of momentary complacency.However, they belted us in the midfield which kind of makes you raise half an eyebrow. Was it a symptom of the situation? It's not nothing but is it any real cause for concern? Does it just provide us with beneficial feedback to work on before finals?But we're a ‘focus on the positives' posse at the Restump and they came in the form of Luke Jackson, Jye Amiss and Izzy Dudley.Luke Jackson, single handedly turned the tables and carjacked the Carrjackers in the 3rd quarter! But him telling his mids at half time he was going to do it and to be ready for it, that is something we're all here for.Jye Amiss arriving predominantly over recent weeks is something special and it only enhances our September chances.And we've said it before and we'll say it again, Izzy Dudley is as clever as Murphy Reid. His inability to waste a possession is top drawer and it's a rarity that something good doesn't occur from a Dudley involvement!We took the points, we put an almost insurmountable lead on the comp for the minor premiership race and now we look to keep on trucking towards Friday night's Derby, otherwise known as the West Coast fans grand final, whether they admit it or not.And what an encounter it may be! The Eagle fans are high on hope after a string of self-destructive performances masquerading as honourable losses, and they'll bring their nothing to lose mentality, their whinny manner, backpacks full of arrogance and an overinflated sense of entitlement. So, if you want to block out the constant shrieking of West Coast fans complaining about Harley Reid not getting a free kick for being tripped by a step, feel free to swap their noise for ours. How's that saying go? It's better to have and not need, than need and not have? We should be ok; they're not all staying in a hotel together. He can't know all their individual addresses, can he? Time to Restump Podcast the Power threat level!For the first time this year we're going in with an unchanged line up. Is this the consistency and stability we've all been desiring? It does feel a little like foreign territory though because so far this year, we've consistently changed our minds, our players, our effort and intent, our game plan, our ball movement and our form. Maybe the only change we have to deal with this week is the weather.With four wins and six losses and sitting in 15th on the ladder, it's fair to say Port Adelaide aren't travelling too flash. And to add insult to injury, they've now lost the vital Jason Horne-Francis. So, why does this feel like such a danger game? On the back of Port's season and our performance last week, we should be going in quietly confident. Yet, I can't shake this nervous feeling. Do we go at Willie Rioli? He has shown that he's easily rattled. The mental game is as important as the physical game, so why would we not use it to our advantage? He kicked three goals against us in our last encounter but, to be fair, he hasn't been a big historical threat against us…. well at least on the field anyway. Of the six games he has played against Fremantle, he has gone goalless just once. However, he's kicked 3 goals on 3 occasions this year from just 9 games, so he is in pretty good nick.While I'm not sure if we're that sort of team and I really don't know if we have the individuals willing to do so, for the record, I vote we rattle the cattle-truck out of his cage. Get Willie thinking about other things and give his teammates an extra protection task. But does it really serve our purpose? I admit I am a bit of a fan of the theatre of footy.While their form isn't great, Port has beaten Hawthorn and Sydney, so they are capable. And with Zak Butters and Ollie Wines in the middle, Connor Rozee distributing and setting up play make off half back and Mitch Georgiades up forward with Willie Rioli at his feet, you can see how they cause some feeling of trepidation. While we might have a bit more talent across the board, do we have the capability to slug it out in a potentially bruising encounter in the wet? It's difficult to forget we didn't handle the treatment in the pristine dry conditions under the roof at Marvel against the Saints. The rain, should it impact the game, could be the great leveler on Saturday night. The Restump investment club has gone sideways and is in need of a bail out. Can we blame the Trump tariffs? They're being blamed for everything else! But quitting is for cowards and as we always say at the Restump, you're only ever one hot streak away from a full recovery. May the Gods be in our odds.Anyway, it's all about the maritime melee this Saturday night. Something we didn't know about Tommy Emmett…. apparently, he's an avid reader! Time to Restump Podcast the Purple versus Port parade Saturday.After last week's shenanigans, which still isn't sitting well with us, we need to focus and pull the four points against Port to get out of the two-week South Australia stint with something to show.Unfortunately, Sean Darcy didn't get up for the game as his return would have seen him reunite with Luke Jackson to deliver a history book worthy ruck dominance! However, while Ivan Soldo has been good for the Power, did we take a bit of a gander into Port Adelaide's ruck stocks, realise they don't really have a second ruck and say…. “Hey Darce, give yourself an extra week.” Michael Frederick is a big loss, especially with half an injury cloud hanging over Sam Switkowski. His replacement, Neil Erasmus makes his way into the side to probably don the sub vest. Over at Port Jeremy Finlayson is unbelievably out for 3 weeks for saying mean words and potentially hurting someone's feelings because the sticks and stones policy has somehow become irrelevant! Injured stalwart Travis Boak also takes a spell on the sidelines which we're not too disappointed about. They're two big outs that will make the job a touch easier but with Ollie Wines and hard nut Sam Powell-Pepper coming in, they're comparable replacements. Charlie Dixon, Todd Marshall and the returned Mitch Georgiades up front are a pretty big challenge but we'll back our defensive unit in all day.The midfield will be a big watch in itself. Connor Rozee, Zac Buttters, Ollie, Jason Horne Francis up against Nat Fyfe, Andy Brayshaw, Caleb Serong and Hayden young. Whoever gets the better of it in the middle might decide the contest.Let's also keep a close check on Dan Houston and Kane Farrell and not let them into space with the ball anywhere within about 60 metres of goal! Can't wait for this one. Just quietly as good as Port Adelaide is, when you look deeper into it, I can't help but think their form is a little false, or rather distorted. Consequently, I'm slightly leaning towards the thinking that we're a better chance than the tipsters and bookies are suggesting.
