In this episode, we welcome Tom Satterly, a highly decorated combat veteran who served in the Army for 25 years, including 20 years in the elite Tier One unit, Delta Force. He fought in and was portrayed in the Oscar Winning 2001 film: Black Hawk Down and led countless missions, including the capture of Saddam Hussein. Tom is a recipient of numerous medals including a Silver Star, and 4 Bronze Stars. He also shares his experience of overcoming the mental and emotional struggles he faced after coming within seconds of taking his own life. Today, Tom is the co-founder and COO of All Secure Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving Special Operation warriors and their families to reconnect and heal on the homefront from the trauma of war. Tom is also the best-selling author of "All Secure: A Special Operations Soldiers Fight to Survive on the Battlefield and the Homefront '' and a professional speaker. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from a true American hero and learn from his experiences in leadership, critical decision-making, and overcoming mental and emotional struggles. Also, I think PTS is a better label than PTSD which we talk about in the episode, I just know fewer people are familiar with the acronym. Learn more about your ad choices. Bob "Ninja" Poras has us wondering where he got his call sign. He spent most of his career in the shadows. Some days "AWOL", but most of them fighting as the tip of the spear with 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment–Delta (1st SFOD-D), and eventually - working for the CIA as a GRS operator. He covers lessons in leadership and the perfect grenade toss while operating in Panama during 'Just Cause,' his first brush with the same Delta squadron that would later be his own. We later learn where the famous trope "this is my safety" originated from. We wrap up part one of this two-part series with Pablo Escobar, Bosnia ops with German GSG 9, and more. In this fascinating discussion, Eric Maddox shares why he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, a jumpmaster, and graduate of Ranger School. In 2003, he was sent to Tikrit, Iraq where he joined a Delta Force team who was searching for high value targets on the infamous Deck of Cards. After five months and over 300 interrogations, Eric was able to track down and eventually give the team the exact location of the spider hole in which Saddam hid. For this, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement, the Defense Intelligence Agency Director's Award, and the Bronze Star. Eric has successfully transitioned his technique of empathy based listening to teach business leaders across the globe on how to follow the breadcrumbs that lead to the stage of the person you are negotiating with. It is important for veterans' experiential wisdom to, well, not die with them. Passing on the lessons learned - the best practices, the frank admissions, the abject failures - is crucial for both a civilian population that may not otherwise relate AND for the veteran population that does. So it would be a shame not to pick the brain of a man who has operated at the highest levels of the DoD, the most exotic assignments in the USG, and the most adventurous sectors of the private security industry. Dale Comstock is a lot more than the bullet points on his resume. That said, he has a lot of bullet points.Dale served in 1st SFOD-D (Delta Force), 3rd Special Forces Group, and in the 82nd Airborne Division 325th Infantry. He also worked 9.5 years as a paramilitary operative for USG and concurrently worked as a contract security specialist, COO, Vice President, and President for various security companies applying his skills and knowledge on a myriad of security challenges around the world. He has been decorated twice for Valor in combat and is also the famed breacher that explosively breached the Modelo Prison in Panama during the 1989 U.S. invasion and rescue of Kurt Muse. Dale has 6th degree Black Belts in American Open Karate and Extension Fighting, with a 1st degree Black Belt in Ju Jitsu. He is a former professional boxer, kickboxer, and MMA fighter, who authored the 3rd Special Forces Group combatives manual in 1997, instructed the Delta Force combatives program and the 3rd Special Forces Group combatives program. He is a competitive Bodybuilder and actively trains and competes alongside his son. In the world of self-defense Dale has globally managed bodyguard details for high net worth businessman, celebrities, and Politicians. Dale has a Doctorate Natural Health and Alternative Medicine, a Masters Degree in Business and Organizational Security Management, with a Baccalaureates degree in Education. He is fluent in German, with a working knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese. In September 2011 Dale was featured on Discovery Channel's “One Man Army,” and in September 2012 he was featured on NBC's “Stars Earn Stripes” alongside Terry Crews.Dale is very forthright about his own operating system - what has helped propel his career, his health, his accomplishments and, ultimately, his freedom in life. For all of Dale's successes in the military, contracting, business, and coaching, there are the struggles - the marriages, the single parenting, the supervision of civilian contract security employees. From turning down a life of guaranteed comfort to abandoning Hollywood, I think Dale's life is full of lessons that are more than interesting, they are relevant.Follow Dale here.Buy Dale's autobiography, American Badass here.
Tyler Grey grew up in Bakersfield, California, joined the army in 1998 and quickly advanced from training into the 75th Ranger Regiment, 2nd Battalion, spending most of his time there as a Sniper. He spent the rest of his career at Ft. Bragg. Grey deployed four times - two each to Afghanistan and Iraq - before he became disabled from an explosion that occurred during a late-night house raid that turned into a gun-battle in Baghdad in 2005. Nowadays, Tyler's an actor, producer, and director on the CBS show SEAL Team, where he puts his skills to work teaching others about the challenges our country's heroes face every day. But how did he get to work on an actual television show? Do people assume he used to be a SEAL? And what exactly happened in that late-night house raid in 2005 that changed everything? ----------Chapters:00:00 - Intro02:00 - ...But I Play One on TV07:30 - Military Rivalries10:00 - Morning Routine12:30 - Hit on a Motorcycle16:00 - Combat in Hollywood22:00 - Filming Action Isn't Easy24:00 - I Do All My Own Stunts30:00 - Breaking Into Hollywood36:00 - Real Kits, Real Guns42:00 - Breaching Pyrotechnics44:00 - On-Set Shootings on The Crow & Rust49:00 - Growing Up in Bakersfield, CA54:00 - Green Beret Dreams, Army Ranger Realities1:11:00 - A First-Mission Combat Story1:15:00 - The Best-Kept Secret in the Military1:20:00 - Spec Ops Training Starts at Zero1:27:30 - Feeling Like a Superhero1:28:00 - A 2-Man Graduation1:30:00 - Big Boy Pranks1:32:00 - A Delta Force Operator1:36:00 - A Thirty-Thousand Foot View1:37:00 - Horribly Wrong1:42:00 - A Fallujah Walkout1:44:00 - Brilliantly Operated1:50:00 - Military Married1:52:00 - Second Deployment, '05-'061:54:00 - A Morbid Curiosity2:01:00 - A Cool Dog Story2:06:30 - Getting Blown Up: A Play-by-Play2:31:30 - 60 Days in the Hospital2:35:30 - 30-40% Mobility 2:38:00 - Being In Sets You Up for Being Out2:43:30 - A Fundamentally Self-Destructive Person2:46:15 - L.T.S.D.2:52:30 - Self Destruction is Growth, Kinda2:57:30 - Finding RAMBOSupport Tyler Grey: IG: https://www.instagram.com/tyleragreySEAL Team on CBS: https://www.cbs.com/shows/seal-team------------Sponsors:MasterworksSkip the waitlist, support the show, and start investing in blue-chip art today at https://www.masterworks.art/mikedrop“net returns” refers to the annualized internal rate of return net of all fees and costs, calculated from the offering closing date to the sale date. Join us today as our guest explores the five principles of biblical manhood (Man as Provider, Instructor, Battle Buddy, Defender, and Chaplain). With over thirty-six years of experience in the Army, an original member of the Delta Force, and Commander of Army Special Forces, our guest knows a great deal about manhood. Based on the biblical book of Joshua, his favorite Bible character, our guest will counter the culture’s labeling of manhood and masculinity as toxic and offers a way forward for men.
I've heard it said that, “If serving is below you, then leadership is beyond you.” Remember the words of Mark 10:45 which remind us that the greatest leader to ever walk the face of the earth, being Jesus, “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Our Built Different Guest today is truly a man after God's own heart who has a love and devotion for sacrificing his life for the service of others. General William Boykin is a true American Hero having accumulated one of the most decorated military careers spending 36 years in the army, 13 of which were spent in the Delta Force, and the last 4 years having served as the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence. General Boykin truly has a heart for shaping strong leaders and warriors both on and off the battlefield. Yes, he's been a part of and lead several high-profile missions such as the Iran Hostage Rescue attempt and even the Black Hawk Down incident in Mogadishu, Somalia, but this man has a heart for building champions for Christ. Spiritually speaking, we are in a fight every single day, but the question we must ask ourselves is, “How are we preparing or training for our trials?” In and throughout this episode I'm reminded of the words of John Maxwell which say, “True Leadership must be for the benefit of the followers, not the enrichment of the leader.” Don't live this life chasing success as success will only leave a fingerprint on creation… Instead choose to live this life consistently pursuing significance which will leave a footprint on the soul. Just ask yourself every day, who have I served? Who have I encouraged? and who I have empowered today? Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap. Judge each day by the seeds you have planted.

Just over a month later, Dutch and his team were assaulting Mullah Omar's compound outside of Kandahar (OBJ Gecko). This air assault raid is the longest in the history of warfare and Dutch shares his story for the first time. Today we hear the Combat Story of Derek Nadalini, who spent decades in the Army with both Ranger Battalion and 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta, better known as The Unit. This is one of the most interesting interviews we've ever done. Derek deployed countless times beginning in Afghanistan in 2002 and conducted HVT operations, hostage rescue (including the rescue of Roy Hallums), ran low visibility and sniper operations, and eventually volunteered to execute singleton missions. After leaving the service, Derek went through a painful and long process to manage traumatic brain injury (TBI). Despite those challenges, he would go on to help sell the company Spatial Networks (earning what he aptly refers to as his “Business Ranger tab”), became a certified life and wellness coach providing pro bono support to Veterans, and is now the Director of Outreach and Development at MusiCorps, which is a music rehabilitation program that helps wounded warriors play music and recover their lives. Derek is easily one of the most accomplished people we've had on the podcast and I hope you enjoy this funny but also very personal experience and highs and lows of the elite as much as I did. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Matthew 5:10-1210 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.Luke 14:31-3331 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won't he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.Hebrews 11:32-3432 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.THE NEWS & COMMENT:The General's book on religious prosecution of Christians: Heroic Faith: Hope Amid Global PersecutionThe Family Policy Institute where LTG (Ret.) [If you want more about our guests and some behind the scenes insights, join our Patreon community at https://www.patreon.com/combatstory] Unlike many of our guests, Zack never planned to join the military. Like many people, however, 9/11 changed that. He used the 18X program to get his foot in the door and was in combat with the 3rd Special Forces Group in 2005 and 2006, which include being part of Operation Medusa, one of, if not the, largest NATO coalition operations in Afghanistan. He then transitioned to Delta Force where he honed his shooting, CQB, and tactical skills that he now uses to teach military, law enforcement, and civilians through his company, Hades Consulting, which he co-owns with another former Delta Operator. It's Friday, September 30th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) 325 Egyptian Christian children given private school education More than 325 Egyptian Christian children attend Hope House, International Christian Concern's education center. In this Muslim-majority country, where Muhammad's followers comprise 85% of the population, Christians are viewed as second-class citizens. Hope House seeks to break the cycle of generational persecution by providing access to quality education and upward mobility. According to Open Doors, Egypt is the 20th worst nation in the world for Christians. In the Muslim-run public schools, Christian children are largely sidelined and receive poor teaching. By contrast, Hope House, a quality alternative, provides classes that are one-third the size and which give a Christian worldview. The child sponsorship program provides incentives to children and their families to keep the children enrolled in school. Especially during the summer months, poorer Christian boys are pulled from school to work in the fields, earning less than $2 per day. And girls are typically tasked with helping at home or learning homemaking skills. You can help pay for more Egyptian Christian children to attend Hope House. In Matthew 25:40, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.” Hurricane Ian killed 12 & destroyed Fort Myers, Florida Eerie aerial pictures show the total destruction of Fort Myers, Florida from Hurricane Ian after the 'superstorm' ripped its beloved pier from its hinges, reports The Daily Mail. Before and after shots captured the devastation to the small Florida city, with homes leveled, ships swept on to land, and fires breaking out through ghost town neighborhoods. The sea finally appeared to have ebbed back from the shoreline to reveal the devastation to the once tropical paradise, with trees yanked from their roots and roofs shed from restaurants along the promenade. NBC News reports that 12 people were killed during Hurricane Ian. President Biden asks where a dead GOP Congresswoman is It was a cringe-worthy moment. During the September 28th White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health, President Joe Biden called on the late Republican Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana who died in a car crash on August 3, reports the New York Post. BIDEN: “I believe we can use these advances to do even more, to make America stronger and a healthier nation. I want to thank all of you here for -- including bipartisan elected officials like Representative McGovern, Senator Braun, Senator Booker, Representative Jackie [Walorski] --Are you here? Where's Jackie? (inaudible mumbling) She must not be here -- to help make this a reality.” At a White House press briefing, a reporter asked Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre to explain Biden's obvious gaffe. REPORTER: “What happened in the hunger event today? The President appeared to look around the room for a member of Congress who passed away last month. He seemed to indicate she might be in the room. What happened?” JEAN-PIERRE: “So, the President was naming the congressional champions on this issue and was acknowledging her incredible work. He had already planned to welcome the Congresswoman's family to the White House on Friday. There will be a bill signing in [Rep. Jackie Walorski's] honor this coming Friday. So, of course she was on his mind. She was of top of mind for the president.” REPORTER: “Are you here? Where's Jackie? She must not be here.” JEAN-PIERRE: “No, I totally understand. I just, I just explained she was on top of mind.” Biden minimizes skyrocketing inflation On the September 18th 60 Minutes program, CBS reporter Scott Pelley asked President Joe Biden about inflation. PELLEY: “Mr. President, as you know, last Tuesday, the annual inflation rate came in at 8.3%. The stock market nosedived. People are shocked by their grocery bills. What can you do better and faster?” BIDEN: “Well, first of all, let's put this in perspective. Inflation rate, month to month, is just up just an inch. Hardly at all.” PELLEY: “You're not arguing that 8.3% is good news?” BIDEN: “No. I'm not saying it is good news but it was 8.2 or 8.2 before. I mean, it's not like. You're making it sound like, all of a sudden, my G-d, it went to 8.2%.” PELLEY: “It's the highest inflation rate, Mr. President, in 40 years!” BIDEN: “I got that.” In a September 21st interview on NewsMax, Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky reacted to Biden's description of the skyrocketing inflation rate. PAUL: “What we know for sure is that now we've lost more to inflation than they gave us in the form of free money. The inflation came from the free checks that were passed out. They shut the economy down. They sent free checks to everyone. And they said, ‘Oh, this will make up for it.' But guess what? When people add up how much they're paying for gas and at the grocery store it's cancelled out all the free money. “And I don't think the inflation is over by a longshot. There's still about $2 trillion out there that's held in the coffers of cities, counties, and state governments. It hasn't been spent yet. As it's spent and put into the economy, as it chases goods, it's going to chase the price of our goods higher. We're going to get more inflation. So, this isn't over. “And for Biden to discount 8%. He's obviously not thinking of the person who has only Social Security to support them. He's not thinking of the person who makes $25,000 a year and can barely get by. Those people are really hurt by inflation!” First openly transgender officer indicted for Russian spying And finally, the Army's first openly transgender officer was indicted Thursday on charges of trying to provide American soldiers' medical information to the Russian government, reports the Washington Free Beacon. A federal grand jury in Baltimore indicted Jamie Lee Henry and his wife, Anna Gabrielian, on charges of conspiracy and wrongful disclosure of individually identifiable health information. According to prosecutors, the couple met last month with an undercover FBI agent posing as a Russian diplomat and offered medical information from Fort Bragg, the home of the military's elite Delta Force. The indictment said Gabrielian told the agent she was “motivated by patriotism toward Russia to provide any assistance she could to Russia, even if it meant being fired or going to jail,” reports Stripes.com. The indictment does not explain Gabrielian's connection to Russia, but Johns Hopkins website said she speaks Russian. If convicted, the couple faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for the conspiracy and a maximum of 10 years for each count of disclosing protected health information. Matthew 15:19 declares, “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Friday, September 30th, in the year of our Lord 2022. Paul and Mike are honored to have CSM(Ret) Tom Satterly (author of All Secure) and his lovely wife Jen visit Pineland to discuss Tom's service in Delta Force, the most elite and secretive special operations unit in the U.S. military. Tom shares his personal battle with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS). Most importantly, Tom and Jen share valuable lessons they've learned negotiating the path towards recovery and having a happy and fulfilling marriage. This is a must listen-to episode for all warriors struggling to live a full and productive life.
If you want a high performing company, you need to build a high performing team. And we all want to get the most from our teams, but what do they need from us as leaders in order to succeed? Fortunately for us, I'm talking with Mark Erwin today. Now, this is a guy who has spent decades building and leading strong teams. He's currently the President and CEO of Bardstown Bourbon, where he and his team are doing incredible things to stand out in a really crowded category. And he spent 25 years serving the Army, where he led the super elite Delta Force on countless top-secret missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact … I'm just gonna go ahead and say it … if you live in America, you're safer today because of the way Mark Erwin built and commanded his teams. And as we mark the anniversary of 9/11 this week, I sure as heck am grateful for it. Some really incredible things are possible when we as leaders build strong teams – and Mark says that starts by equipping them properly. If you're ready to see how that's done, keep listening, because here is my conversation with my good friend, and soon to be yours, Mark Erwin.
Tom Satterly is a former Command Sergeant Major from the US Army's Delta Force, also known as The Unit. During his 20 years at The Unit, Tom fought in and led countless high-profile missions including the capture of Saddam Hussein and the Battle of Mogadishu, also known as Black Hawk Down, which was the longest sustained firefight since Vietnam. That 18-hour firefight ended with Tom, along with several of his teammates, running the Mogadishu Mile to safety.Tom's career sounds like a Hollywood script, and he's literally been portrayed in movies because of it. It's hard to imagine doing more in the world of special operations than he did. But that lifestyle comes at a cost. In the early days of Tom and Jen's relationship, Tom was struggling with the physical, mental, and emotional toll of his two decades of intense training and combat. It nearly broke him, and it nearly destroyed his relationship with Jen. Tom and Jen met while Jen was working at a special operations training company. She noticed a pattern that was shared by the Navy SEALs, Green Berets, and Army Rangers that she was working with. That pattern was the same one that was affecting Tom, and in turn, affecting her. She wanted to know what could be done to help these special operators deal with the effects of post-traumatic stress, and what avenues there were for getting that help. So, she delved into health and wellness research and certifications in order to answer both parts of that question. She learned about post-traumatic stress, she learned what could be done about it, and she began doing the helping. As she and Tom worked to heal as individuals and repair their relationship, they began helping others to do the same. They founded All Secure Foundation in 2017 to help special operators and their families navigate the maze of treatments and modalities of healing from post-traumatic stress. They worked with hundreds of operators and their families and soon became a provider of education, awareness, and programs. On this episode, we talk with Tom and Jen about their story and All Secure Foundation. "SEQUELTEMBER" is here on The Cannon Canon! We kick off a month of Cannon sequels with 1990's Delta Force 2: The Columbian Connection! A movie that has little to do with the first Delta Force or Columbia. Filmed in part at Regan's abandoned getaway crib, this movie has Norris beating up "skinheads" in a restaurant, more Molasses 2x4 climbing and John P. Ryan having the time of his life. Billy Drago's still full from the scenery he chews up in this one! The winds of change are growing stronger, and so is SEQUELTEMBER!
