Despite being an often-overlooked topic in music, motherhood has come up in several of my interviews, & has served as inspiration for several albums. Though I'm not a mother myself, these women's diverse stories have been so inspiring to me - they challenge tropes of motherhood, & get honest about its high & lows. In October 2022, I held my first solo summit, The Soul of Business Summit and rebranded it to Ancestrally Rooted Business Summit. When I sat down to create my summit, The Hungry Medium was a dream guest in her grounded, sassy and wise magic- and I am so grateful she said YES!. She dives deep on how she grew through Christianity into her African traditions. I am beyond honored to share this powerful conversation with Kat Niambi, the Hungry Medium. Tune in to hear the ancestral patterns she transformed and the ones she leaned into to awaken and reclaim her magic and medicine. Kat shares her ancestral journey that brought her to her current work and path. How disbelief in the form of life in the church shaped her current spiritual path. How ancestors who didn't agree in life may support you in bigger ways when on the other side. Kat shares the white table misa messages she received from trusted spiritualists that kept asking, “ why aren't you doing this for people?” Kat shares how her challenges are viewed as a series of events that had to occur so Kat could be who she is now. She goes deeply into the question, “Is it Spirit or is it God?” Christianity as a tool of the colonizer to strip Africans from their faith and identity as a historical fact. Explains why Christianity and Black Nationalism don't align. Why Kat calls herself a spiritual activist in her work and how grateful she is to be awake. Her journey on social media during Covid and post-pandemic and trusting Spirit with your marketing. What is the metaverse? The journey from the old days when spiritualists didn't even read on the phone. Saying yes to opportunities that are in alignment can be stepping stones for more connection, relationships and expansion. IG: https://www.instagram.com/thehungrymedium Website: https://www.thehungrymedium.com Bio Kat Niambi, aka The Hungry Medium's practice is rooted in an African spiritual tradition for which she is grateful. Without this tradition, she wouldn't be where she is right now. For many, the “gift” of hearing Spirit doesn't present itself in a way that's easily recognizable. “I was either lucky or my soul has been around the block a few times and has navigated this mind-body iteration (aka me) to where I am today; a clairsentient spiritualist who's able to make connections between spirit and the physical world.” She likes to think of herself as a “spiritual activist”; using her mediumship to help others find direction, clarity and focus in their lives. The goal is to help YOU help yourself. By tapping into your own power to problem solve and to work towards achieving actionable goals, you'll feel more empowered to design a life shaped by you and endorsed by the Soul.

Knowing that you want to do your Ph.D. when you are in high school is pretty remarkable, and it requires focus and dedication from a young age. This is the position today's guest, Dr. Niambi Brewer, was in. Niambi received her Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania, where she is also doing her postdoc at the Genetic Diagnostic Laboratory. In today's episode, Niambi talks about the journey of self-discovery she is on having recently completed her doctorate. When you are in graduate school, it is easy to be one-track-minded, so figuring out who you are again is a process. We hear what Niambi did in high school to explore her interests and set herself up for her Ph.D. Niambi decided to go straight into her doctoral studies from her undergrad rather than taking time off, and she provides insights into these decisions. Our wide-ranging conversation also touches on the importance of social capital as a Black doctoral student, how Niambi has managed to stay connected to people despite working in STEM research, and the importance of realizing your value. Tune in today. Connect with Dr. Niambi Brewer on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and on her website. You can also learn more about the Meyerhoff Scholars Program here. "What is the inspiration for you music?" "How has your queer identity grown through your music?" "Have you dealt with queer-phobia in the music industry?" "How can we make more space for queer recording artists?"On this episode, I interview a singer and songwriter in the hip-hop scene, Niambi Ra (she/her). Growing up, Niambi was always exposed to the arts and an array of queer people in it, in her hometown of Washington D.C. Niambi shares specifically how she witnessed positive examples of Queer Black love and how that had a positive impact on her own coming out journey. She shares how her mother was a dancer, and it was inevitable that she would go into some kind of art. She found and fell in love with music and also acting and ended up attending NYU for musical theatre. Niambi then goes on to share how being a musical theatre performer used to be something she would hide but now it's something she owns because she recognizes the strengths it gives her. Niambi shares her own journey as a queer recording artist and how her ownership of her identity evolved as she created more music and showcased her queerness in her music videos, particularly her most recent song "Guidance." Throughout the episode, we discuss many things such as: queerness and camp in the music industry, how the act of queer people being themselves is political, double standards between men and women in the industry, the unsureness the industry has about where to put gender non-conforming folk, and much more.Follow Niambi:InstagramYouTubeOrganization of the Week: National Queer TheaterLearnDonateShow Produced by Nick EiblerCo-Produced/Edited by Addison McKissackTheme Song written by Matt Gregory, Colin Egan, and Mike Hubbard Produced by Colin Egan and Mike HubbardLogo Design by David Pavón

As a bartender in Sonoma, he was faced with the challenge of lockdowns - but didn't let that slow him down. He pivoted to offering his delicious craft cocktails "to-go" and the popularity of having those drinks at home led to the canned cocktail sensation that is Cappy Shakes. Join me as I converse with Kat Niambi, the founder of the Hungry Medium Podcast and an expert in digital marketing and demand generation strategies. After a diagnosis of/and extensive treatment for breast cancer, Kat Niambi, aka The Hungry Medium tried to look for ways to take more control of her health. The answers always led to food. For a person who loved (loves) food so much, this news couldn’t have been more disappointing. Eventually, she finally decided to watch the groundbreaking documentary, What the Health. It changed everything. Not only did the film expose corruption in the food industry, but it empowered her to take control of her own health instead of relying solely on the advice of doctors that had never studied nutrition. Today, The Hungry Medium is a lifestyle brand with over 4,500 followers on Instagram and 7,500 on Clubhouse; spreading the word about plant-based eating. She reviews and demonstrates recipes and highlights vegan and vegetarian-friendly restaurants. Her goal is to inspire people to make a shift in lowering or eliminating their consumption of animal products to fight disease and feel better in their everyday lives. Kat Niambi also has a professional career spanning over thirty years and within every niche area in the field of marketing; most notably and namely as a subject matter expert in digital marketing and demand-gen strategies At a very young age, Kat also connected with spirit on a different plane than others. A plane that didn’t manifest in huge and amazing ways until she was much older and drawn to the African spiritual tradition of her ancestors as her foundation for worship. As a spiritualist and priest in the Yoruba Lukumi tradition, Kat eventually found her path to alignment with Source and everything that comes with that: a greater desire to help others on their personal journey as she travels on her own. Now as The Hungry Medium, her goal is sincere; to inspire folks to make a shift. Whether it’s lowering or eliminating the consumption of animal products to fight disease or feeling “lighter” in our everyday lives, she hopes to impart techniques she uses to move in this world with intention and prayer. Spirituality is a broad concept with room for many perspectives. In general, it includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life. As such, it is a universal human experience—something that touches us all. People may describe a spiritual experience as sacred or transcendent or simply a deep sense of aliveness and interconnectedness. While some may find that their spiritual life is intricately linked to their association with a church, temple, mosque, or synagogue. Others may pray or find comfort in a personal relationship with God or a higher power. Still others seek meaning through their connections to nature or art. Like your sense of purpose, your personal definition of spirituality may change throughout your life, adapting to your own experiences and relationships.Kat Niambi is a Spiritual activist and she is on life well lived to share incredible insights on the subject of Spirituality viz-a-viz harnessing Spiritual gifts, mindset/belief system, awareness & understanding in pursuit of one's soul mission, getting through difficult time, energy et Al.Get your earpods on and have a great time listening. I decided to go ahead and make it a 5-color enchantress deck, with all 5 of the Hondens in it. This solved a couple of problems the Kenrith deck had. I had to run too many tutors to reliably find the shrines Kenrith didn’t really interact well with the shrines Talk about how cool Sisay is, and how she does all the things a shrine deck would want. I sent email to myself to look at Sisay in the morning. Also, I included Kethis, Enduring Renewal, Estrid’s Invocation, Mirage Mirror, Sterling Grove, Privileged Position, Fountain Watch, Teshar (this was wrong, I was thinking of Shalai, and that’s also wrong) and Captain Sisay. Many of these didn’t make the final cut. I was just planning on updating my Kenrith Deck, and adding in the 6 new Shrines, but one night I was drifting off to sleep, and I had an idea. Sisay, Weatherlight Captain! The Shrines all scale as you get more shrines, kinda like the Slivers of enchantments. This will give you inevitability if the game goes long enough, and if there aren’t many “destroy all enchantments” effects. Do this live Let’s rank the original Hondens from worst to first in Commander Do this live Let’s do the same thing with the new Sanctums So, what makes this deck so cool? Protection Sterling Grove Privileged Position Greater Auramancy Fountain Watch Creeping Renaissance NOTE: Technically, you do NOT need to run these, because Sanctum of Tranquil Light is a single mana, and fetchable with Sisay before she is pumped up. Sword of the Chosen Shadowspear Sword of the Animist Blackblade Reforged Okina, Temple to the Grandfathers Sisay Enablers Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain (gonna be nuts in this deck) Niambi, Esteemed Speaker Various Enchantresses Card Draw Jhoira's Familiar Honor-Worn Shaku Ramp Captain Sisay Primeval’s Glorious Rebirth (Discuss if Eerie Ultimatum is just better?) Urza’s Ruinous Blast Legends Matter Raff Capashen, Ship’s Mage Thran Temporal Gateway Weatherlight Historic Matters Meishin, the Mind Cage Profane Procession Search for Azcanta Teferi's Ageless Insight Oath of Kaya Other cool Legendary Cards Vernal Equinox Paradox Haze (Doesn’t work with 5/6 of the new Sanctums, but really cool with 1 of the 6!) Other cards Other Categories of cards Main Topic -Sisay Shrines Deck Tech What a cool deck! Full of awesome interactions, and legendary cards. Also, it’s totally on point Flavor-wise (I mean there are THREE weatherlight Captains in this list…). To audience land, what cards would you put in here? Is this the kinda deck you would play? Just in time for the APSA annual meeting, Niambi Michele Carter has written an incredibly timely book on a central issue to American politics, American While Black: African Americans, Immigration, and the Limits of Citizenship (Oxford University Press, 2019). Carter is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Howard University. Her work focuses on racial and ethnic politics in the United States, specifically public opinion and political behavior of African Americans. In American While Black, Carter argues that immigration, both historically and in the contemporary moment, has served as a reminder of the limited inclusion of African Americans in the body politic. Carter draws on original interview material and empirical data on African American political opinion to offer the first theory of black public opinion toward immigration. Carter contends that blacks use the issue of immigration as a way to understand the nature and meaning of their American citizenship-specifically the way that white supremacy structures and constrains not just their place in the American political landscape, but their political opinions as well. But what may appear to be a conflict between blacks and other minorities is about self-preservation. Prof. Carter also makes a host of excellent recommendations for enjoying the District, including: Hazel, Haikan, Thai Xing, Dirty Goose, Compass Coffee, The Royal (coffee/bar/restaurant), Brookland's Finest, Calabash, Menomale (didn't mention but a great place for Neoplitan style pizza), Union Market ( esp. Neopol Savory Smokery), and St. Anselm. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
