Spiritually exhausted? Therapist Faith Freed reveals why your spiritual practice might be the problem, and how to build one that actually fits your real life. What if the reason your spiritual life feels like a second job is because you've been following someone else's job description? In this episode of The Skeptic Metaphysicians, Will and Karen sit down with Faith Freed, licensed psychotherapist, spiritual guide, and author of DIY Spirituality: Chart Your Own Sacred Path, to explore one of the most overlooked causes of spiritual burnout: doing it wrong for you, not doing it wrong in general. Faith spent nearly two decades in clinical practice, trained at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, and has seen firsthand what happens when people treat their spiritual growth like a performance review. Spoiler: it doesn't end in enlightenment. It ends in a meditation cushion being used as a footrest. What you'll hear in this episode: Will opens up about something he's never discussed on the show before. after years of daily meditation, breathwork, sound baths, energy healings, and spiritual retreats, he still doesn't feel "further forward." Faith's response reframes the entire conversation: the goal was never a destination. It was always just a practice of touching in. Faith introduces her Divine Disco Ball framework, a four-part map of spiritual connection built around body and mind, soul and spirit, infinite source, and the natural world. The framework isn't diagnostic or prescriptive. it's a navigation tool. When one quadrant feels heavy or overworked, you simply rotate to another. Will also has a live breakthrough moment on air. connecting a spontaneous mystical experience he had years ago in the Atlanta airport to a pattern Faith identifies in real time: being alone in a crowd might actually be his spiritual sweet spot. It's one of those genuine, unscripted moments that makes this episode worth the full listen. Key topics covered:Why spiritual exhaustion is more common than spiritual failure, and how to tell the differenceThe "spiritual playlist" concept. keeping what lights you up, releasing what you force out of obligationWhy micro-rituals (as short as 60 seconds) can be more sustainable than elaborate daily practicesThe difference between spiritual presence and spiritual distraction, and how your intuition already knows which is whichWhat "authentic spirituality" actually means when the word has been flattened by wellness cultureHow a phone fast, a solo trip to an amusement park, or simply watching rain can be a legitimate spiritual practiceWhy Faith believes you don't have to do anything at all. and why that's both liberating and surprisingly hardAbout Faith Freed: Faith Freed is a licensed psychotherapist, spiritual guide, and the founder of Freed-Om. She holds a master's degree in clinical psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology and has nearly two decades of clinical experience. Her newest book, DIY Spirituality: Chart Your Own Sacred Path (Collective Book Studio, 2026), offers an illustrated, accessible guide to building a personal spiritual practice outside of rigid religious or wellness frameworks. "I don't say 'aging' I say 'staging'..." "'cause it's about the stage we're in...' --Victoria Platt OKAY??? That's how we rollin' on this talk! Today's riff is Our Personal Pathways: A Talk with Victoria Platt. Welcome to Episode 118 of the Roll With Peace, In Mind podcast! We chat about coming into your own, perimenopause symptoms and how she's flowing with them, mindset, being in your body, "aging" mindfully and all that good stuff! Victoria Platt is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), an Innerlight Energy Balancing and Mindfulness Therapist, a Minister at Christ the Resurrected Church in Los Angeles and a certified Anusara Yoga Facilitator. Her wellness business, iElevate ME Inc., was created out of a Spirit driven urge to assist all bodies in re-membering their minds, bodies and spirits, to experience more wholeness, joy and liberation in their lives. Victoria's beginnings were as an actor, singer and dancer in New York City, performing on stage, film, tv, commercials, print, voiceovers, etc. from the age of 6. She still moves in the realm of entertainment as she is called to do so. She found that the work she does as an artist and the work she does in wellness have strong and powerful common threads; self-awareness, transparency, courage and a willingness to play and be curious. Blending the tools of somatics and mindfulness with the creative exercises of performing was an easeful jump and her workshop UNCOVERY™ was created. In 2023, Victoria created ALL OF ME SEEN summer camp™, a 3 week arts and mindfulness summer camp that teaches 6-13 years old the toys (tools) of self-regulation and somatics through yoga, voice, dance, art and science. Along with holding sessions for individuals, couples and groups, Victoria also offers donation-only virtual yoga classes weekly. Victoria is a lead facilitator for the Mindful Leaders Project, teaching self-regulation and mindfulness through breathwork, movement, meditation and other tools. She has facilitated courses for the faculty and staff of Pasadena Unified School District in California, providing tools to help foster healthier relational dynamics between students and staff/faculty through addressing how unconscious bias begins, and ends, in the body, and also facilitated classes in somatics and mindfulness for the parents of Riverside County held by The University of LaVerne Center for Neurodiversity and Riverside County, CA. Since 2020, Victoria has been a part of Communal Consult workshops and the Foundations in Somatic Abolitionism program, taught by the author of My Grandmother's Hands, Resmaa Menakem. Through the work she's done with Resmaa Menakem, her study of Reich and Lowen Therapy and sitting at the feet of her Spiritual Counselor, Rev. Dr. Charles O. Brown (Doc), Victoria has begun the process of cultivating Spiritual Somatic Abolitionism - an ongoing unfolding process of aligning the mind, heart and body in order to transcend from the physiological and psychological state of existence into the Spiritual realm of experience. Send us Fan MailYou are going through the motions of a life that looks completely fine from the outside. And yet. Something is hollow in the middle of it. Like the color has turned down a few notches. Like you are living in your life but not quite inhabiting it. Like you used to know what your life was for — and somewhere in the middle of all the giving and the doing and the showing up, that knowing got very quiet. If you have been sitting with a version of that feeling — the hollow, the grey, the vague but persistent sense that something is missing even when nothing is obviously wrong — this episode is for you. In this episode, PK — Dr. Peggie Kirkland explores what spiritual wellness actually means for midlife women, why so many of us lose our sense of purpose and meaning during this season of life, and what it looks like to find your way back to the fixed point that has been there all along. In this episode you will find:• Why feeling hollow inside a life that looks fine from the outside is not ingratitude — it is spiritual depletion, and it is far more common in midlife women than we ever talk about• The North Star metaphor that reframes the question ‘what is my life for?' from a crisis into a navigation tool• The research on values alignment and why living out of sync with what you actually believe creates chronic stress in the body• Five questions that will tell you more about your North Star than any personality test ever could• One specific fifteen-minute practice that begins to close the gap between the life you are living and the life you actually value Your North Star has not disappeared. You have just been too busy to look up and find it. This episode helps you look up.

How did we go from prophet to profit with Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Deepak Chopra... one by one, the curtain got lifted? And we're left asking: who do we actually trust? Religious ethicist Dr. Liz Bucar has spent 25 years studying exactly that question. Her answers will surprise you. What you'll learn in this episode: Why the guru era is collapsing and what a good teacher actually looks like versus a predatory one The hidden Orientalism behind Deepak Chopra and Jay Shetty's appeal — and the latent racism nobody's talking about How a 19th century minister literally named after the Graham cracker gave us our food guilt Why a single question from a tarot card reader reversed years of orthorexia when therapy and church couldn't touch it What happened when a straight-edge religious studies professor did ayahuasca three times a day for three days in an Oregon yurt — and what it broke open about death, grief, and living well What sangha means and why real community requires you to be inconvenienced Prefer to watch on YouTube? https://youtu.be/5kXU5Cf2heE Resources & Links: ORDER Beyond Wellness book: https://amzn.to/4wQJypx Liz's website: https://www.lizbucar.com/books Liz's Substack (Religion, Reimagined): https://lizbucar.substack.com/ Liz on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lizbucar/ Liz on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@lizbucar Work with Allison: https://allisonhare.com/freecall NOTABLE TIMESTAMPS 00:00 — Intro: Prophet to profit. What if the very thing you desire most—love, abundance, purpose, fulfillment—is waiting on the other side of feeling safe to truly be seen? This week, Jessica, Lacy, and Janelle unpack the roots of visibility wounds and how childhood conditioning, family dynamics, societal programming, and nervous system protection can keep us hiding from our authentic selves. They explore the subtle ways we abandon our truth to stay safe from people-pleasing and shape-shifting to fear of vulnerability and rejection, and why reclaiming your gifts is the key to true magnetism. If you've ever felt afraid to fully express yourself, share your gifts, speak your truth, or take up space, this conversation is a loving permission slip to stop hiding and finally let yourself bloom. Send us Fan MailToday's guest, Michelle Walker is a life coach, self-healing mentor, and retreat guide devoted to embodied awakening and holistic healing. In this conversation, we explore the Energy Codes — a seven-step system developed by Dr. Sue Morter — and the profound philosophical reframe at its heart: that our challenges, our symptoms, our struggles are not separate from us or happening to us. They are our lives, and they are feedback. What we cover:Michelle shares her own journey — from running a successful retail business while battling chronic pain she couldn't resolve, to discovering the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza and eventually Dr. Sue Morter, and realizing that her condition wasn't something separate from her life to be eliminated. It was an expression of how she was living — and that realization was the gateway to everything changing. We explore the Energy Codes system itself: how it maps onto the seven chakras, what "circuit building" means and why it matters, and how working at the level of energy rather than trying to force change at the physical level is both more efficient and more sustainable. We talk about the difference between the protective personality — the ego self that adapted to keep us safe, often in childhood — and the soulful self: the eternal, expansive being that sees life as an adventure it signed up for rather than a threat to survive. And we talk about the quantum flip — the idea that the moment we recognize we've slipped into protection or defense, we can shift back. It doesn't have to take weeks. It can happen in an instant. There is so much resonance in this conversation with Ayurveda, yogic philosophy, and somatic work — the prana body, the idea of being "situated in the self," the understanding that energy precedes matter. If you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you'll feel it.Michelle leads us through two practices:The Central Channel Breath — a foundational embodiment practice from the Energy Codes that connects cosmic energy above with earth energy below, anchored through the body using Mula Bandha. Grounding, orienting, and genuinely beautiful.Take It to the Body — a circuit-building practice for working with triggers and difficult sensations. Rather than moving away from discomfort into story, this practice invites you to locate the sensation in the body, embrace it with your breath and attention, and build the capacity to let it move through.Resources mentioned:The Energy Codes by Dr. Sue Morter — foundational reading for this workDr. Joe Dispenza — Michelle's earlier influence in understanding the mind-body connectionLimina Renewal Center, Searsport, Maine — where Kristen and Michelle both offer retreats and classesConnect with Michelle: [Add Michelle's website, Instagram, and coaching links here]Resources:Free Masterclass: The Alchemy of the Perimenopause PortalAyurvedic Dosha Quick Reference GuideAbhyanga Self Massage GuideWeekend Nervous System ResetNourished For Resilience Workbook Find me at www.nourishednervoussystem.comand @nourishednervoussytem on Instagram

Legacy Love — Episode 3 of 4 (Official Legacy Love Episode 2)In this powerful episode of Legacy Love, IAYAALIS goes beyond surface-level self-care and gets into the real work of Self-Love: the kind that shows up when you're triggered, when your boundaries are tested, and when old patterns try to pull you back into self-abandonment.This is not the “treat yourself” version of healing. This is a grounded, body-based conversation about what Self-Love actually looks like in real life.Inside this episode, we explore:Why Self-Love can feel hard when your nervous system was trained for survival instead of safetyThe Calm Check — a simple body-based way to tell the difference between real love and anxietyHow “chemistry” can sometimes be trauma activation in disguiseReparenting in plain language (no heavy therapy jargon)3 Self-Love standards to help you move differently: clarity, consistency, and reciprocityA short guided reset practice to help bring your body back to safetyReflective journal prompts to help you identify where you're still abandoning yourself and what standards you're ready to holdThis episode is for anyone who has heard “love yourself” a thousand times… but was never truly shown how to do that in a way that changes your life. And yes — this is about you, but it's also about what comes after you.Because every standard you set…every boundary you hold…and every pattern you break…becomes part of your Legacy Love.
In this episode of The Better Life, Dr. Pinkston welcomes Brett Aldrich, founder of Seed the Spirit, for a deep dive into the 5,000-year-old science of Ayurvedic medicine. As an Ayurvedic healthcare counselor and somatic breathwork teacher, Brett shares how we can move beyond the "corporate model" of contemporary medicine to find a personalized path toward true wellness. The conversation explores how the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—make up our unique constitutions and how "doshas" (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) influence everything from our physical health to our emotional temperament. Brett explains that while the world around us may feel chaotic, Ayurveda provides the tools to remain centered and "whole" within that chaos. You named the love you didn't choose. Now let's watch it move. In Episode 1, we went deep into the three inherited love patterns—Conditional, Silent, and Sacrificial — and the childhood sentence you've been trying to finish your whole adult life. If that episode shook something loose in you, this one is going to show you exactly how that shaking plays out in real time.Because here's the truth nobody wants to admit: most relationship pain is not random. It's not bad luck. It's not “I just keep picking the wrong people.” It's patterned. It's rehearsed. It's a loop. And what you've been calling “my type” ...might actually be your wound wearing a new outfit. In this episode: • The Pattern Loop explained: Trigger → Reflex → Story — the three-step cycle that keeps you stuck • Why your nervous system picks “familiar” over “healthy”—and what to do about it • Real-life examples across romance, family, friendship, and work so you can spot the loop in YOUR life • A brotha's story: how emotional shutdown looked like “strength” —until it almost cost him everything • A 60-second interruption practice you can use the moment you feel yourself slipping into the old scriptThis episode might feel exposing. But it's not here to shame you. It's here to free you.New to the series? In this heartfelt episode of Authentic Talks 2.0, host Shanta sits down with Lisa Love—self-love coach, retreat leader, and founder of Collective Hearts—for a powerful conversation about what it truly means to love yourself from the inside out. In a world that often confuses self-love with overindulgence, Lisa gently reframes the conversation, reminding us that real self-love doesn't have to cost a thing. Together, they explore simple yet transformative practices like affirmations, gratitude, breathwork, meditation, and mindful presence—tools that help quiet the inner critic, heal loneliness, and reconnect us to our own inner wisdom. Lisa shares her lifelong mission of spreading love, from childhood stories that shaped her path to leading wellness retreats around the world—from the Bay Area to Bali and even Antarctica. She opens up about navigating loneliness, setting boundaries, reclaiming personal power, and why visible love—like her heart-centered jewelry—can serve as a daily reminder to lead with compassion. Solo Podsnack: Host, Shanta Generally; The New Year is often treated like a reset button—but what if it's actually a threshold? In this episode, Crossing the Threshold: What You're Carrying Into 2026 (and What You're Meant to Set Down), we explore a gentler, more conscious way of entering the New Year—one rooted in discernment, awareness, and energetic maturity rather than pressure or resolutions. I share a personal reflection on how decluttering, cleaning with intention, and releasing what no longer served me became a powerful practice of preparation—one that couldn't be rushed and didn't need perfection. Cultivating H.E.R. Space: Uplifting Conversations for the Black Woman
Hey lady! You know we’re all about our gentle growth and continuous improvement over here so we’re excited to share an episode that will help grow your toolkit for whatever life may bring your way.As we heal and process it’s common to notice where your childhood has yet again shaped your behavior and caused patterns that at one time seemed normal but now no longer serve you. Growing up in environments where our caregivers were doing the best they could with the tools they had means that we may not have always had the space to be your full self. And, if you grew up in a Black household it’s entirely plausible to not be allowed to feel your feelings and bury them instead. But, we’re grown now and you are not only allowed to feel your feelings but you are encouraged to and there are frameworks that can help. This week, Dr. Dom and Terri present the RULER method, a powerful tool that can help you make your way through difficult and complex emotions so that you can remain in your sovereignty and stand in your integrity. This five-step method can help you meet life as it comes, which will help you loosen the grip of needing to control life. Understanding your emotions offers you more choice in your experience, which can lead to feeling more stable, grounded and having increased capacity to feel the richness and beauty that life has to offer you. Using RULER in Real Life· Recognizing: “How do I know what I’m feeling? What signals does my body send?”· Understanding: “Where did this emotion come from? Is it layered with past wounds?”· Labeling: Talk about the power of language—using words like “disrespected” vs “angry.”· Expressing: “Who is safe to share this with? What’s an empowered way to show this?”· Regulating: Tools and tips (breathwork, journaling, therapy, movement, prayer, etc.)Quote of the Day:“If you don’t know what you’re feeling, it’s hard to know what to do with your feelings.” – Dr. Marc Brackett Goal Mapping Starter GuideCultivating H.E.R.
