In this episode of The Better Life, Dr. Pinkston welcomes Brett Aldrich, founder of Seed the Spirit, for a deep dive into the 5,000-year-old science of Ayurvedic medicine. As an Ayurvedic healthcare counselor and somatic breathwork teacher, Brett shares how we can move beyond the "corporate model" of contemporary medicine to find a personalized path toward true wellness. The conversation explores how the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—make up our unique constitutions and how "doshas" (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) influence everything from our physical health to our emotional temperament. Brett explains that while the world around us may feel chaotic, Ayurveda provides the tools to remain centered and "whole" within that chaos. You named the love you didn't choose. Now let's watch it move. In Episode 1, we went deep into the three inherited love patterns—Conditional, Silent, and Sacrificial — and the childhood sentence you've been trying to finish your whole adult life. If that episode shook something loose in you, this one is going to show you exactly how that shaking plays out in real time.Because here's the truth nobody wants to admit: most relationship pain is not random. It's not bad luck. It's not “I just keep picking the wrong people.” It's patterned. It's rehearsed. It's a loop. And what you've been calling “my type” ...might actually be your wound wearing a new outfit. In this episode: • The Pattern Loop explained: Trigger → Reflex → Story — the three-step cycle that keeps you stuck • Why your nervous system picks “familiar” over “healthy”—and what to do about it • Real-life examples across romance, family, friendship, and work so you can spot the loop in YOUR life • A brotha's story: how emotional shutdown looked like “strength” —until it almost cost him everything • A 60-second interruption practice you can use the moment you feel yourself slipping into the old scriptThis episode might feel exposing. But it's not here to shame you. It's here to free you.New to the series? What if city design could prevent harm before it happens—and even lift our sense of purpose? We sat down with architect and planner Phillip Tabb to explore spiritual wellness as a practical, universal lens for shaping healthier streets, homes, and public spaces. Phill draws a clear line between spirituality and religion to focus on experiences we all share: safety, serenity, awe, belonging, and meaning. We unpack the wellness pillars—physical, mental, emotional, social, environmental, spiritual, and financial—and why social connection may be the strongest longevity factor. That insight reframes planning choices: front porches close to sidewalks, paths that prioritize pedestrians, and public squares that can hold both quiet lunches and electric festivals. Housing rounds out the conversation with a hard truth: bigger isn't better if it separates us and prices out workers. If design is preventative care, then spiritually healthy places are ones that help us breathe, connect, and find purpose every day.Enjoyed the conversation? Cultivating H.E.R. Space: Uplifting Conversations for the Black Woman
Hey lady! You know we’re all about our gentle growth and continuous improvement over here so we’re excited to share an episode that will help grow your toolkit for whatever life may bring your way.As we heal and process it’s common to notice where your childhood has yet again shaped your behavior and caused patterns that at one time seemed normal but now no longer serve you. Growing up in environments where our caregivers were doing the best they could with the tools they had means that we may not have always had the space to be your full self. And, if you grew up in a Black household it’s entirely plausible to not be allowed to feel your feelings and bury them instead. But, we’re grown now and you are not only allowed to feel your feelings but you are encouraged to and there are frameworks that can help. This week, Dr. Dom and Terri present the RULER method, a powerful tool that can help you make your way through difficult and complex emotions so that you can remain in your sovereignty and stand in your integrity. This five-step method can help you meet life as it comes, which will help you loosen the grip of needing to control life. Understanding your emotions offers you more choice in your experience, which can lead to feeling more stable, grounded and having increased capacity to feel the richness and beauty that life has to offer you. Using RULER in Real Life· Recognizing: “How do I know what I’m feeling? What signals does my body send?”· Understanding: “Where did this emotion come from? Is it layered with past wounds?”· Labeling: Talk about the power of language—using words like “disrespected” vs “angry.”· Expressing: “Who is safe to share this with? What’s an empowered way to show this?”· Regulating: Tools and tips (breathwork, journaling, therapy, movement, prayer, etc.)Quote of the Day:“If you don’t know what you’re feeling, it’s hard to know what to do with your feelings.” – Dr. Marc Brackett Goal Mapping Starter GuideCultivating H.E.R. The holidays tend to magnify whatever we're already carrying—joy, stress, or grief—so we open with light, honest moments before leaning into a deeper question: how do we practice gratitude when life is complicated? Drawing from 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, we explore a three-part rhythm of rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks that turns Thanksgiving from a single day into a durable way of living. TRM Director of Strategic Development Josh Turley talks with Mike Schoettle, Director of Spiritual Wellness and Discipleship at TRM about why joy isn't rooted in circumstances but in God's unchanging character. We even revisit Abraham Lincoln's 1863 Thanksgiving proclamation to consider how a nation in pain was still called to praise, repentance, and compassion. From Brother Lawrence's quiet kitchen prayers to the everyday noise of family life, we reflect on how a steady, grateful posture is formed in small, sincere moments with God. We also share a quick TRM Fall Festival recap and look toward Giving Tuesday, or Transformation Tuesday at TRM, as an invitation to turn gratitude into meaningful action for neighbors in need. If this conversation helps you breathe a little easier heading into the holidays, share it with a friend, subscribe for more hope-filled stories, and visit trmonline.org to see how generosity can transform lives this season. To learn more about TRM, Click Here!To support TRM, Click Here! In this episode of Everything Is Personal, Len May sits down with herbalist and author Jane Barlow Christensen of Barlow Herbal to talk about plant medicine, intuition and simple, natural health. Jane shares how she continued her father's herbal legacy, why books and hard-copy herbal knowledge still matter in the AI / Dr Google era, and the powerful story of her dad using cayenne pepper tincture to stop a heart attack. They break down what should be in a basic herbal medicine cabinet, how to think about research vs real-world results, why tobacco and nicotine have been misunderstood, and where psychedelics and sacred plants fit into healing and higher consciousness. Angela Lerro's journey from near-death at 89 pounds to vibrant health challenges everything the spiritual community believes about diet. After breast cancer at 28, mysterious autoimmune conditions, and years of declining health on a plant-based diet, this energy worker made a radical decision that saved her life: eating only meat.In this raw conversation, Angela shares how undiagnosed Lyme disease nearly killed her, why her intuitive gifts were making her sick, and how she combined carnivore nutrition with energy healing to create what she calls "miracles" in her practice. Her story exposes the dangerous disconnect between spiritual wellness culture and human biology. From fainting 15 times daily to training her German Shepherd as a service dog, Angela's medical odyssey reveals how emotional trauma stores in the body and why proper nutrition is essential for spiritual work. She explains her unique approach to energy healing that works with clients worldwide, how meat consumption improved her psychic abilities, and why she believes the spiritual community's obsession with veganism is harming practitioners. This isn't your typical wellness story. It's a compelling case for why healing requires addressing mind, body, and spirit simultaneously - and why that might mean eating in ways that contradict popular spiritual teachings.BIG IDEAWhen the student's ready, the teacher appears - and sometimes that teacher is your own body demanding you question everything you've been taught about healing.Angela Lerro Contact InfoWebsite: https://meatbasedmedium.com/Instagram: MeatBasedMediumTikTok: MeatBasedMediumFacebook: AngelaChristineemail: meatbasedmedium@gmail.comBook References for the Skeptics: “The Holographic Universe” by Michael Talbot“You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise HaySend Dr. Ovadia a Text Message.
