We all know the legacy that Sputnik had on U.S. science education. Washington poured more than a billion dollars into overhauling the U.S. science curriculum. But television was transformed too. According to Ingrid Ockert, a Haas Fellow at the Science History Institute and a NASA History Fellow, the television show “Continental Classroom” was launched as a direct response to the Sputnik challenge. Five days a week, “Continental Classroom” was broadcast into American homes to encourage and inspire budding scientific minds. From “Watch Mr. Wizard” to “Mythbusters,” lots of Americans have grown up watching various science television programs. Ockert walks us through how science has changed television, and how television has influenced science.

Es scheint, dass Essen zu einer Nebensache geworden ist. Und gleichzeitig gab es noch nie so viele verschiedene Ernährungsansätze oder Kochshows wie heute. Wissen über Ernährung ist ausreichend vorhanden, doch es fehlt vielen an einem alltagstauglichen Koch-Management. Wie Nahrung nicht nur Energie liefert, sondern sinnvoll, genussvoll, bekömmlich ist, darüber spreche ich mit Isabel Ockert, Begründerin von "Fit und leistungsfähig im Beruf".   Meine Fragen: Es gibt viele Bücher über Ernährung und Kochen. Wir lieben gutes Essen, doch oft meldet sich direkt das schlechte Gewissen. Ein weiterer Faktor ist die zeitaufwendige Zubereitung, wodurch schnell der Vorsatz für sich gut zu sorgen wieder verschwindet. Ist es wirklich so zeitintensiv, wie wir denken, uns genuss- und sinnvoll zu ernähren?  Angst und Zweifel haben uns manchmal im Griff, mal ist Zurückhaltung, dann wieder Mut gefragt.
