Weihnachten hat einen ganz eigenen Geschmack. Zimt, Vanille, Kardamom. Düfte, die sofort Erinnerungen wecken. An Geborgenheit, an Kindheit, an diese besondere Zeit zwischen den Jahren. Und genau diese Gewürze können viel mehr, als nur Stimmung machen. In dieser Folge meines Podcasts DA GEHT NOCH WAS erkläre ich, welche kleine Wunderrolle Weihnachtsgewürze spielen können, wenn wir zuckerfrei leben oder uns bewusster ernähren wollen. Denn sie schmecken nicht nur weihnachtlich, sondern wirken auch ganz konkret im Körper. Wir schauen uns Zimt, Kardamom, Vanille, Nelken, Piment und Muskat genauer an. Einige Gewürze verstärken im Gehirn die Wahrnehmung von Süße ganz ohne Zucker. Andere können Heißhunger dämpfen, die Verdauung unterstützen oder Blutzuckerspitzen abflachen. Und sind gerade in der kalten Jahreszeit wertvoll für Stoffwechsel, Leber und Nervensystem. Damit ihnen danach nichts wirklich schwer im Magen liegt – hier die 7 Nogo's. Und da geht's hauptsächlich um Kombinationen, die ihre Verdauungsorgane nicht vertragen. 1. Eier und Fisch. Einzeln ja – zusammen schwer verdaulich. 2. Käse und Tomaten. Das ist hart für alle Pizza-Fans. 3. Käse und Kartoffeln – tschüß, Raclette. Liegt eh schwer im Magen.4. Linsen und Rotwein. Klar, das schmeckt zusammen – aber die Tannine im Rotwein hemmen die Aufnahme von natürlichem Eisen – in den Linsen reichlich enthalten. 5. Salate mit fettfreiem Dressing. Klingt erst mal schlank und gesund. Aber Fett ist notwendig, damit Vitamine gut aufgenommen werden können und der Salat nicht nur gesund aussieht, sondern auch gesund ist. Es sollte nicht allzu schwer sein, diese 5 Tipps zu beherzigen. Damit Weihnachten leicht wird, ist natürlich auch Bewegung an der frischen Luft angesagt. Und: nicht so üppig ist immer gut. Der wahre Genuss liegt in der Beschränkung. Und jetzt wird's wirklich hart: Nein, Schnaps hilft nicht wirklich bei der Verdauung; er verzögert sie sogar, da der Alkohol die Magenmuskulatur entspannt und so den Transport des Speisebreis verlangsamt, obwohl das angenehme Gefühl durch die Muskelentspannung einsetzt. Der Mythos vom Verdauungsschnaps hält sich, weil die betäubende Wirkung des Alkohols das Völlegefühl überlagert, aber stattdessen sind Bewegung (wie ein Spaziergang) oder Kräutertees (Fenchel, Anis, Kümmel) deutlich effektiver, um die Verdauung anzukurbeln. Ekel ist ein integrales Element im Horrorgenre – aber auch eng an subjektives Empfinden geknüpft. Kim erzählt euch von einem (eigentlich) entspannten Sommerurlaub, den der amerikanische Schriftsteller Cormac McCarthy mit seinem monumentalen Roman “Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West“ (1985) überschattet hat. Er widmet sich vor allem der Sprache des Romans, die den Ekel der geschilderten Geschehnisse auf ein transzendentes, episches Level hebt – fast wie die schriftliche Version eines erhabenen Naturspektakels à la Caspar David Friedrich. Denise wiederum hat endlich den 2024 erschienenen Horrorfilm-Hit “The Substance“ der französischen Regisseurin Coralie Fargeat dabei. Neben einem Wutanfall hört ihr von ihr, wie grotesk der Film über seine zwei Stunden Laufzeit aufdreht und warum all der explizite Body-Horror bei weitem nicht an eine andere, viel schlimmere Szene herankommt. Weil Anrufer Gerrit nur bis 11 Uhr Zeit hat (anständige Luppen-Hörer gehen dann Golf spielen), drehen wir den Spieß heute mal um und rufen gleich zu Beginn an: Wie bringt man jungen Fußballerinnen und Fußballern bei, mit Druck umzugehen? Wir fragen zuerst bei Felix' Magen und dann bei 76kg-Eisklotz-Toni nach und lernen einiges. Nach Eisklotz sah der übrigens letzte Woche gar nicht aus, als er an der Seitenlinie im Heimspiel seiner U12 gegen Rayo Vallecano den Emotionen freien Lauf ließ. So auf Temperatur hat man Toni Kroos seit dem Schwedenstrafstoß 2018 nicht mehr gesehen. Alto belli! Und weil wir heute in Telefonierlaune sind, rufen wir gleich noch Vater Roland an – den neuen, alten, neuen, alten etc. sportlichen Leiter beim Greifswalder FC – oder wie wir ihn liebevoll nennen: den Uli Hoeneß vom Bodden. Levain Bakery, a New York City obsession among cookie lovers, started as a bread shop 30 years ago. The famous gooey and crispy 6-ounce cookies came about by accident.The founders, Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes, were triathletes as well as bakers, and they developed an oversized chocolate chip walnut cookie to fuel them during training. Word got out about that cookie and lines formed around the block. Now there are several more cookie variations and many more Levain locations, stretching from New York City to LA, Boston, metro D.C. and Chicago. Donna Magen joined the company about two and a half years ago as senior manager of specialty channels. She recently expanded Levain's catering arm, partnering with ezCater to reach cookie monsters in the workplace. Magen sees great potential in the burgeoning treat culture, where consumers are craving affordable indulgences—like cookies. But Levain is also going back to its roots, baking up breads, muffins, scones and the like to grow breakfast catering and other occasions. Listen as Magen talks about Levain's growth strategies beyond its retail shops into nontraditional channels and how the bakery is preserving its legacy as it grows.
