The acting president of Zambia's main opposition Patriotic Front (PF) party says the country's High Court missed the point when it dismissed the case brought by six PF presidential candidates challenging the election of Miles Sampa as the party president. According to the Lusaka Times, the court said the plaintiffs failed to respond to Sampa's application to dismiss their case. Patriotic Front acting president Given Lubinda tells VOA's James Butty, the court did not address the petitioners' complaint that they were denied their constitutional right to participate in the party leadership election by Miles Sampa.

In Zambia, eight opposition political parties have agreed to form an alliance to challenge President Hakainde Hichilema in the next election. The eight include the former ruling Patriotic Front. Meanwhile, the French News Agency (AFP) earlier this week said former President Edgar Lungu called on Zambians to demand an early election because President Hichilema has mismanaged the economy. Information Minister Cornelius Mweetwa, tells VOA's James Butty, the government has also been educating the public about how to prevent the spread of cholera.

Zambian President Edgar Lungu has declared Thursday's presidential and parliamentary election not free and fair after incidents of violence in three provinces.Lungu says the Patriotic Front party that he leads was consulting on its next course of action.President Lungu says the general election in three provinces, namely, Southern province, North Western province, and Western Province, were characterised by violence, rendering the whole exercise a nullity.He said Patriotic Front polling agents were brutalised and chased from polling stations, a situation that left the ruling party's votes unprotected in those three provinces.

Zambia witnesses a rise in women candidates for the 2021 candidates, this weekend we feature 2 professional women who have stepped up for public office; Grace Natasha Namunyola is a freelance journalist who used to write for different private media and business organizations, she is the Socialist Party candidate for member ofparliament in Kwacha constituency. Grace obtained a Diploma in Journalism from Copperstone University.  Mwinga Sichula is the Patriotic Front (PF) candidate for Councillor of the Mulungusgi Ward 12 in Mandevu constituency. The Ethiopian government has declared a six-month state of emergency after protests in the capital, Addis Ababa, and around the country resulted in extrajudicial killings of at least 500 people, according to protesters. RFI spoke to Berhanu Nega, the head of Patriotic Ginbot 7, a new group formed by the merger of Patriotic Front and Ginbot 7. Speaking from Eritrea, he says that the Ethiopian government-imposed State of Emergency will not work on the people because these are tactics used for guerilla warfare.

Zambia's President Edgar Lungu has defeated his main rival Hakainde Hichilema in the country's presidential election. Zambia's electoral commission says Lungu, leader of the Patriotic Front, won 50.35 percent of the vote against 47.67 per cent for Hichilema of the United Party for National Development. The opposition party has already cried foul. It says it will petition the country's Constitutional Court to relook at the whole electoral process, claiming that fraud took place. This might delay the inauguration of the president for a second term.
