Some cookies cooperate. Zimtsterne do not. And yet, every December, across German-speaking Europe — and far beyond it — these white-topped cinnamon stars return to bakery windows and home kitchens as if they've always belonged there. Routed in medieval spices, baked in theology and tradition, we're exploring the history and origins of zimtsterne. The 2025 season mercifully comes to an end as the Dallas Cowboys fall 34–17 to the New York Giants in a brutal season finale. Paul Stewart and Mike Poland break down a game that perfectly encapsulated everything that went wrong this year, from defensive breakdowns and penalties to missed red-zone opportunities. The guys analyze the box score, including Jackson Dart carving up the Cowboys defense, New York rushing for over 160 yards, and Dallas finishing the year with the worst defense in franchise history, allowing over 500 points. They highlight standout performances from Jadeveon Clowney and Josh Butler, discuss Dak Prescott being pulled at halftime, debate offseason priorities, and officially turn the page toward coaching changes, free agency, and the 2026 rebuild. ️The World's Team Podcast is proudly part of the BLEAV Network and Cowboys Experience. LAM SON 719 AND THE FAILURE OF VIETNAMIZATION Colleague Geoffrey Wawro. The 1971 invasion of Laos (Lam Son 719) exposed the failure of Vietnamization, as South Vietnamese troops were routed without USground support, proving they lacked the leadership and logistics to fight alone. By 1972, only massive American air power, reinstated by Nixon during the Easter Offensive, saved South Vietnam from collapse, while Nixonsimultaneously pursued détente with China and the USSR to isolate Hanoi. The relentless "Linebacker" bombing campaigns eventually forced North Vietnam back to the negotiating table, though the peace deal essentially replicated terms available years earlier. NUMBER 15

Chip Scoggins, Ryan Burns and Justin Gaard are back to recap the Gophers latest road debacle: a 42-13 loss at Oregon. The guys discuss how the roster can be reconstructed next season to deal with some of the issues we've seen this season. They also spend time previewing Northwestern (who had a heart-breaking loss to Michigan at Wrigley) and talk some about Iowa giving up a lead and losing at USC.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Off The Bench is back weekdays from 10a to 11a followed by The Stone Shields Show from 11a to noon! In a game that started as a nightmare and ended in futile desperation, the Cincinnati Bengals fell 37-24 to the Detroit Lions on October 5, 2025, at Paycor Stadium, extending their skid to three straight defeats. What began as a 28-3 halftime rout—fueled by Detroit's explosive backfield duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery tying an NFL record with their 14th combined touchdown—devolved into a fourth-quarter mirage for Bengals fans. Cincinnati, now 2-3, has been outscored 113-37 over this brutal stretch, a stark reminder of life without injured star Joe Burrow. Quarterback Jake Browning, filling in admirably during a 2023 late-season surge, looked utterly lost under center. He threw three interceptions—two deep in Bengals territory that gifted Detroit short-field touchdowns—before salvaging his stat line with 251 yards and three fourth-quarter scores to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Those late strikes, including a 65-yard bomb to Chase, trimmed the deficit to 35-24 and sparked brief "Stripe the Jungle" chants amid boos that rained down after his third pick. But it was too little, too late; a failed onside kick and safety sealed the embarrassment. Browning now ranks second in the NFL with eight picks, his adjusted EPA per dropback a woeful -0.44, dead last among qualifiers. Head coach Zac Taylor shouldered blame for the slow starts but doubled down on faith in Browning, saying, "I believe Jake can win games for us." Yet, postgame whispers of accountability rang hollow: Taylor admitted hearing bench calls from the crowd, while Browning owned his "awful" play, deferring any changes to the staff. The leash? Shortening fast. With Burrow sidelined until at least December from toe surgery, rumors swirl of an upgrade. Analysts urge trading for a veteran like Russell Wilson or the benched Kirk Cousins to stem the bleeding—Brett Rypien, the roster's only other QB, boasts a 4-9 TD-INT ratio in limited action. Facing Green Bay next, then primetime tilts against the Jets and Steelers, Cincinnati's 2-3 perch in a wobbly AFC North (Ravens and Browns at 1-4) offers a lifeline. But sticking with Browning risks irrelevance; the front office must act, or this season crumbles before Burrow's return. The Bengals' Super Bowl window creaks open—don't slam it shut with indecision. The Nats opened the doubleheader vs. Cleveland with their 3rd straight win, but that momentum was halted just a few hours later. Mark & Al reluctantly begin again with the bullpen, who overall had an awful Tuesday at the ballpark. They inherited a 6-2 lead in Game 1, but the Guardians immediately scored six runs in the top of the 7th. The offense bailed them out and then Kyle Finnegan notched his 100th career save.(7:10) The Nationals were trailing when Brad Lord departed Game 2, but the 'pen still managed to give up five runs in only three innings of work. Lucas Sims allowed three runs and his ERA is now up to 12.34.(14:30) Jake Irvin continued his season long trend of having his roughest inning in the top of the 1st. Irvin was pulled in the 6th and Al offers a suggestion of how the organization should consider handling his future starts.(17:30) Lord had a good outing, but all signs are pointing to him moving back to the bullpen once Michael Soroka returns from the IL on Wednesday. Lord began the season as a reliever before he was thrust into the rotation due to surrounding injuries.(27:00) The offense came through with ten hits in the Game 1 victory. James Wood went deep with a 2-run shot for his 10th homer of the year. Dylan Crews had a RBI double to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th; shortly after the bullpen coughed up the lead.(29:30) The bats were quiet in Game 2, Riley Adams solo HR was the only source of scoring. Josh Bell returned to the lineup after missing three straight games and went hitless in the cleanup spot. The bright spot came from CJ Abrams as he drew a trio of walks in the leadoff spot. Abrams has played at a level where he might return to the All-Star Game this summer.(36:40) Josh Whetzel, the Voice of the Rochester Red Wings, gives Nats Chat an exclusive report on what is happening at AAA.

Despite playing without Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday and Al Horford, the Boston Celtics still had enough firepower to beat the Philadelphia 76ers with ease. The Sixers, playing without Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey, fell to a season-worst 20 games below .500.

The Nats were clobbered 11-2 by the visiting Dodgers on Wednesday evening. Mark & Al examine the rough start by Jake Irvin as he allowed a dozen hits and six runs in 4.2 IP. This came a week after he tossed six shutout frames against this same lineup at Dodger Stadium. (11:00) It was another night that needed five bullpen arms and the final two did not perform well. Tanner Rainey and Jacob Barnes combined to give up five runs in the final two innings to put the game completely out of reach. This resurfaces the conversation on the need for a long man in the 'pen. (20:00) Lane Thomas was placed on the 10-day IL with a sprain of the left MCL. His roster replacement was Trey Lipscomb, who was called back up less than ten days after being sent down to AAA. Lipscomb played 1B on Wednesday and that sent Joey Gallo to the outfield. (28:00) The Nationals had very good injury luck last season, but that does not seem to be repeating itself in 2024. We close with a conversation on James Wood and comparing him to the situation with the scuffling Jackson Holliday in Baltimore. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
