For the best part of this year, the Kwacha, Zambia's currency has been doing exceptionally well. Some economists have described it as among the best performing currencies against the dollar. This might not be good news for exports, which will be more expensive to buy in other countries. But it has been welcomed by Zambians who are paying lower prices for food and services than this time last year. So, while many countries around the world are facing a cost of living crisis, is Zambia managing to buck the trend? #AfricaDaily

Rorshok's weekly ten-minute update of stuff happening in Malawi. First up, the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has said it is monitoring fuel price movements on the international market before it moves to adjust prices. Fuel prices have remained volatile on the international market with the Kwacha losing traction with other major trading currencies, making price hikes at the pump likely. From one uneasy increase to another...Out of 2,475 people screened in Dedza recently, 2,099 have been diagnosed with scabies. This development is obviously of increasing concern to Health Authorities in the district. An additional 376 people were also diagnosed with other skin diseases. Good news for the truly hard working. The Deputy Minister of Labour said this week that 81 of the 450 names of ex-miners who worked in mines in South Africa between 1970 and 1988, whose records of service have been retrieved by the South African government, will start receiving their pension by next month. These stories and more in this week's update. That's it for this week, thanks for tuning in. If you like the show, share it and subscribe for more! This combination, a small country, a forex market with large private participants and one dominant export, implies that the Kwacha does not trade in a market of rice takers.
