In this edition of the NdB Sunday Show, hosted by Chris Steyn, Lauren Evanthia, the founder of the Organic Humanity Movement (OHM), analyses Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie's unwavering support for President Cyril Ramaphosa in a GNU that “it is really held up by toothpicks at this moment…in a last ditch effort to try hold some semblance of normality so our economy doesn't completely crumbles”; former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen's performance in Parliament; why his party is at “a little bit at a crisis point” and have “reached the maximum capacity of support”; continuing chaos at former President Jacob Zuma's MKP with MP Papa Penny off to Floyd Shivambu's new party; and the apparent support among blacks on social media for FF Plus Correctional Services Minister Pieter Groenewald. Questioning the accuracy of the latest crime statistics, Evanthia also comments on the armed invasion this weekend at the home of former International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor. “I think when things like this happen to people in power, are they going to wake up and actually do something? History says no...” Meanwhile, she warns that the murder of two tourists in the Kruger National Park - the first in its history - is bound to be a huge blow to much needed tourism.

Would it pay dividends for government, perhaps through the Department of Tourism, to send a superfan such as Mama Joy Chauke to the upcoming FIFA world Cup? Would each close-up shot of her colourful garb and infectious smile score points among television viewers for “brand” South Africa? Did it work when Snoop Dogg was sent to the Paris Olympics?

In the latest edition of the Electoral Roadshow with Analyst Wayne Sussman and Chris Steyn, last night's by-election results are dissected for important political party trends in this Local Government Election year. It was a big night for the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and its leader Gayton McKenzie as his party were able to win not just one, but two seats off the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape, with PA support growing from 1% to 60% in the one ward. “…the DA will be worried that they lost these two seats. They should be greatly worried. The PA…just continues to grow.” The DA also had a bad night in Tshwane where the Freedom Front came very close to beating the DA and causing “another major political shock…” The FF+'s support grew from 16% to 44% in the contested ward. Sussman also comments on the probable reason for the Pan-Africanist Congress' (PAC's) withdrawal from its working arrangement with the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng. Lastly, he previews the most important upcoming by-elections.
Part 2 brings the BizNews tribe more of BNC#7's most compelling voices — from Chris Pappas's sharp governance lessons and Gayton McKenzie's bold convictions to a memorable address from the late Neil de Beer.

This week on Good Things with Brent Lindeque, I sit down with one of South Africa's most respected journalists and authors, Mandy Wiener, to talk about her brand-new book, The Deal. It's the real story behind the political negotiations that followed the 2024 elections, when South Africa stood on the edge of change. Mandy takes us behind the scenes... from private homes to secret meetings, where power, pressure and personality shaped the future of our democracy. We chat about what it was like sitting down with the President, what had to be removed from the book before it went to print, and yes… why Gayton McKenzie was running around his house naked. It's smart, insightful and even funny.

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie is today celebrating two historic by-election wins. In this edition of the Electoral Roadshow, Elections Analyst Wayne Sussman tells Chris Steyn: “It is absolutely historic that the Patriotic Alliance have won a ward in Soweto and they did it by totally eviscerating the Democratic Alliance and the ANC and all other parties." The PA is also celebrating a historic win in the Overberg. “So you continue to see the PA make inroads in different parts of the Western Cape.” Commenting on McKenzie's leadership style, Sussens says: ….similar to Donald Trump, Gayton McKenzie knows where the camera is and he knows how to be the centre of attention. It is a great political skill….This is a person who isn't politically correct. He calls a spade a spade and he uses leverage against the ANC in the GNU…This is a politician whose party stock is clearly continuing to rise..” Another party celebrating this morning is ActionSA. “ActionSA made history by winning their first ever ward in the Northwest and their first ever by-election…Unbelievable result.” As for the possible impact of the merger between both BOSA, GOOD, and Rise Mzansi, Sussman says if they run good mayoral campaigns, "maybe they can be kingmakers in some metros".
In this edition of the NdB Sunday Show, Chris Steyn speaks to Jacques Taljaard, the newly elected President of the United Independent Movement (UIM), the party founded by the iconic late Neil De Beer. He shares his opinion on the latest developments that Neil would have had a field day commenting on: the mysterious death of former Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa in Paris days after being fingered for the “worst” political interference; Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie forcing the hand of the African National Congress (ANC) by threatening to leave the Government of National Unity (GNU); and the defiance of Economic Freedom Fighters CIC Julius Malema following his criminal conviction on firearms offences. Taljaard also describes the three-fold surge in support experienced by the UIM in recent weeks from people wanting to honour Neil's legacy. And he shares a previously unseen video of Neil that is guaranteed to make viewers laugh out loud.
Amy Maciver speaks to Christo van der Rheede, Chair of the Board of KKNK, who shares insight on the role of festivals in fostering cultural unity and the financial challenges they face. Christo highlights how festivals have navigated post-pandemic recovery while continuing to provide significant employment and cultural opportunities. He also reflects on the importance of constructive engagement with government to ensure that funding policies support the long-term sustainability of the sector.
