The Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) held a screening of the landmark 1948 Polish film The Last Stage (Ostatni etap). Directed by Wanda Jakubowska — a communist, resistance fighter, and survivor of Auschwitz — the film was among the first cinematic depictions of the Nazi concentration camps and the organised resistance that developed within them. Several Auschwitz survivors appear in the film, portraying roles closely connected to their own lived experiences just a few years after the liberation, adding a rare and powerful layer of direct testimony and lived experience to its reconstruction of events. Produced in postwar people's democratic Poland and filmed partly on location at Auschwitz itself, The Last Stage stands as both historical testimony and a forceful affirmation of the role played by communists in the struggle against fascism and genocide. At a time when our ruling class seeks to discredit communists and anti-imperialists as “anti-Semitic” for expressing solidarity with oppressed peoples and resisting imperialist war, occupation, sanctions, and national oppression, this screening reasserts a clear historical record: communists were at the forefront of the struggle against racism, fascism, colonialism, and war. The CPGB-ML stands firmly against all forms of racism, including anti-Semitism, while rejecting attempts to weaponise such accusations in order to silence political solidarity and internationalist struggle. We noted the painful coincidence whereby the forum convened less than 48 hours after the horrific terrorist attack by the Nato/Kiev junta on a girl's dormitory in Russia (Starobilsk, Lugansk, to be precise), and discussed the rationale behind the systematic and deliberate targeting of children by the imperialist war machine today. What do western ‘strategists' hope to achieve by perpetrating such outrages, which are certainly NOT accidental? Why were we in Nairobi joining an anti-imperialist conference and then a street protest against the France-Africa summit in the first place? What is France's interest in Kenya, and what is the Kenyan government's role in Nato and in the African front of WW3? And what can three days and nights in police cells teach us about the nature of the Kenyan state and its relationship to its own people? What do the conditions and processes we experienced there reveal about the nature of neocolonial rule in Africa? One other notable aspect of our incarceration was that while it was major news in Kenya and some other parts of the world, the British media, British political establishment AND the British 'left' (antiwar movement, trade union movement, 'independent' media, various 'communist' and 'socialist' parties) all maintained a strict silence over the event. No one here seemed remotely interested in highlighting the unlawful locking up of a British citizen and anti-imperialist activist in a nation that is known to be a close 'ally' (proxy) of Britain. Meanwhile, the political nature of our detention was made very clear to us, since the Kenyan state had to break its own constitution and the police had to override all their own procedures to keep us locked up for so long without bringing us to court. It was made clear that the orders came from 'on high', but HOW high? Were those giving the orders inside or OUTSIDE the country? The fight for freedom and sovereignty in Kenya and Africa continue, and our comrades in the CPM Kenya are building a broad movement that aims to carry through the national-democratic revolution that was denied the people in 1963. Their activities and the growing anger of the impoverished masses has clearly put fear into the ruling comprador elite and their imperialist paymasters. In every case of police and workplace harassment, it is the “IHRA definition of antisemitism” that is being used as a benchmark to adjudicate what is “legitimate speech”. The definition was designed as a data gathering tool, and was never intended to become a law, or to be used in this way. Theresa May adopted it for the UK together with Nicola Sturgeon in 2016 without any consultation. The major political parties followed suit (including Plaid Cymru, SNP, Liberal, Labour and the Greens). It was pushed on police forces, schools and colleges, and Wes Streeting has been pushing it actively into the heart of the NHS. Capitalism is in crisis. On this point all are agreed. But what is the crisis? How can it be solved? Can the world bear yet more "belt tightening", poverty, misery, ill health, malnutrition, environmental degradation, unemployment - with all the physical and spiritual degradation that these entail - and deaths from economic and political causes - notably war and famine? And why? All so the few hundred billionaires can carry on amassing obscene amounts of wealth at our expense! It has been 100 years since the 1926 British General Strike, a day in where strikers took the streets and shut down all bourgeois papers in the country. The only published paper on that day were pamphlets notifying on the strike. The strike itself was the most momentous event in the history of the British working class, with tremendous revolutionary potential. However, it was defeated by the combined forces of the British state, the TUC and the Labour Party. NHS trade unions have persistently ignored the pernicious effects of this ideology, both on their own members and on the children in their care. Mohammad Hassan, former Ethiopian diplomat, veteran communist and a friend of Eritrean independence speaks at our Southall Seminar on Sudan. Professor Hassan gives a weekly TV political education class and current affairs program that is broadcast to the entire Horn of Africa, and for Amharic speakers can be enjoyed here: / @zementvzewdushow3 He gives a background to the geopolitics of Sudan, talks about its rich resources and history and notes that it has all the resources to be a prosperous country: land, water, oil, gold, people! It was the biggest country in Africa. The people were prosperous before it was colonised. It could feed the world - Why should they suffer? Above all, leadership and vision decide everything! The crime of Khruschevite revisionism limited the scope of action and vision of the Sudanese and Middle Eastern communist movement. They lost the will and ability to fight for independence and to take the wealth and organise society for our liberation. Cde Hassan notes also the role of French imperialism in slaughtering 10,000 Arabic teachers in order to make the “Pygmi” language of French the lingua franca of their African Empire. Which it remains to this day. The Abraham accords are only signed by Bahrain and the Emirates. Those tiny states are sectarian extensions of imperialism, and along with Israel are designed to police the entire region. To that end they have embarked on a program of “port” imperialism, to control the strategic waterway of the Red Sea and its African and Arabian coastline. CPGB-ML hold rally at the end of the May Day demonstration in London on 4th May 2026. What is its true content and who does it serve? Can working people really influence the structures of power and governmental decision-making? And if not, why not? We talked about the class nature of the state and democracy, and highlighted the prejudices which are instilled so deeply in workers' heads from such a young age that we find it hard to see past the shibboleths of ‘everybody knows ...' and recognise the extent to which we have been lied. We also discussed the steady shift away from ruling by consent to ruling by force, and the role that political policing is now playing in western societies. True to form, the British ruling class has introduced political policing in a roundabout, arms-length way, by creating and funding allegedly ‘independent' (zionist) organisations which are turning out to be thoroughly embedded into the state machinery, but which allow the government to retain plausible deniability. In fact, Britain's zionist political police function in much the same way as Anglo-American imperialism's zionist settler colony, which polices the middle east/west Asian region and practices all kinds of repressive techniques that are then brought back to be used on the home population. The conflict in Ukraine did not start in February 2022; it had started a long while before. The 2014 Maidan coup installed a fascist government led by the followers of WW2 Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera. This coup was actually the first blow in the yet-to-be-declared war against Russia. The coup enraged the people of Crimea and the Donbass, who refused to live in a state ruled by fascists. Crimea held a referendum in which the population overwhelmingly decided to rejoin Russia. Ever since 2014, the Ukrainian military, backed by the fascist Azov battalions, have been bombarding the Donbass republics, killing 14,000 people and terrorising the resistant population all over Ukraine on a daily basis. The conflict in Ukraine is not between Ukraine and Russia. It is a proxy war waged by the neo-nazi Nato alliance, which wants regime change in Russia in order to loot that country's vast resources. Faced with this threat to its very existence, Russia has had little choice but to resort to force, with the twin purposes of denazifying and demilitarising Ukraine.
