My "Women who went for it" series continues! In this series, I'm talking with some BOSS women who went for it! While they all have different stories, there's one thing they ALL have in common. They pushed past their fears, doubts, and insecurities to chase their purpose. On this episode, I'm talking with my girl Victoria who is better known these days as Vicky Roe on her top-rated radio show on Q95.5 in Lafayette, LA! Victoria's story is so inspiring, and teaches a great lesson about patience, persistence, and believing in yourself! It's also a reminder that things don't always happen overnight, or the way we planned. BUT if we're willing to stay the course and commit to never giving up, we can make our dreams a reality! Intervene – Work with families who find themselves in the “system” to accomplish the required goals to keep their children. Protect – Recruit and strengthen foster and adoptive homes. About Matthew's Voices Matthew's Voices was formed in July 2016 by Jason Fishburn-Grooten. The name is inspired by the Gospel of St. Matthew 25: 42 - 45 (New International Version). It reads: For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me. They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' Matthew's Voices offers access to, and addresses the need for the arts in populations in our city that often go untouched, unloved, and underserved. Visit their website at https://www.starfishinitiative.org/. About The Starfish Initiative Starfish Initiative is a college access and readiness program serving economically disadvantaged high school students in Marion County, Indiana. We believe that mentoring is the key to improving the educational attainment and future of today's youth. To that end, we match every student in the Starfish program with a college-educated, volunteer adult mentor whose job is to help walk their student into college. Thanks to the guidance of their mentors, 100 percent of the Starfish Scholars who completed the four-year program have graduated from high school and 98% have been accepted by colleges or universities across Indiana — and beyond. Starfish was founded in 2003 by a group of local businessmen, concerned that many of the academically promising but economically disadvantaged students in Indianapolis were not getting the preparation for post-secondary education they needed to be the future leaders of the community. They founded Starfish Initiative — the name taken from the famous “Starfish Story” — to help economically disadvantaged students. Currently, Starfish serves approximately 425 students in 45 public, private, charter and magnet high schools.
