It was a busy Saturday for WNAS’ Brian Sullivan. He starts are second hour with a report on girl's semi-state final between Borden and Greenwood Christian as he was on the call. He also took in Lawrence Central and Floyd Central this morning. There aren’t many chances to talk about Southern Indiana wins on this show but today is different. It was a thrilling win for the screaming eagles over Southern Illinois today; Ray Simmons from the Southern Indiana athletic department breaks it down. Kurt Darling of WMUN had an intriguing boy's game between Yorktown and Wapahani. Next, Nathaniel Finch of the Roncalli radio network reflects the girls advancing to the state championship. Then we shift back over to college hoops with Len Clark of Irish 101 talking about another Notre Dame loss. Herzlich willkommen zur aktuellen Folge vom BB RADIO Mitternachtstalk Podcast. Ich bin Jens Herrmann und heute habe ich zwei Gäste bei mir, die ein echtes Stück Zirkusgeschichte verkörpern: Vivian "Vivi" Paul-Roncalli und Patrick Philadelphia. Ihr kennt natürlich den Circus Roncalli. Seit 1976 verzaubert er Menschen auf der ganzen Welt mit dieser ganz besonderen Wärme, die man nicht erklären kann, aber sofort spürt, sobald man das Zelt betritt. Und genau da setzen Vivi und Patrick an. Beide stehen wie kaum jemand sonst für die Roncalli-Gegenwart und die Zukunft einer echten Circus-Dynastie. Patrick ist der Mann hinter der Manege, auch wenn er im roten Frack als Sprechstallmeister selbst in der Show auftaucht. Seit 1996 sorgt er dafür, dass bei Roncalli alles läuft: Aufbau, Abbau, Licht, Ton, Logistik und Technik. 2023 wurde er CEO der Roncalli Company Group und bewegt inzwischen über 2.000 Tonnen Material pro Tournee, unter anderem in historischen Zirkuswagen, die als einziger Circus Europas bis heute per Bahn reisen. Er war eine der treibenden Kräfte, den Circus Roncalli komplett tierfrei zu betreiben und weltweit als Erster Holografie in der Manege einzusetzen. Er war auch dabei, als Roncalli 2024 in New York gastierte und damit ein altes Versprechen seines Zirkusdirektors Bernhard Paul an Andy Warhol einlöste. Vivi ist die kreative Seele der zweiten Generation. Groß geworden zwischen Artisten, Wohnwagen und der legendären Höchster Orgel hat sie schon alles gesehen, was Circus ausmacht. Eine Zeit lang war sie selbst als Artistin tätig, später fand sie ihre Herzensaufgabe im Management des Kostümfundus. Heute gestaltet sie Shows, Kostüme, Events und das moderne Roncalli Design. Sie führt Projekte mit ihren Geschwistern, ist Markenbotschafterin und Produzentin und prägt die neue Circus Ära, nachhaltig, urban und zeitgemäß, aber immer mit Roncalli Herz. Im Moment stecken beide tief in den Vorbereitungen zum großen Jubiläum. Am 18. Mai 2026 feiert Roncalli seinen 50. Geburtstag. Vorher gibt es aber noch den 21. Roncalli Weihnachtscircus im Berliner Tempodrom, vom 18.12.2025 – 04.01.2026. It’s almost the holiday season, so we go to Santa Claus and WAXL’s Steve Kolb to get the rundown on Heritage Hills’ loss to Roncalli. Despite a huge blowout, there were plenty of storylines to discuss. The head coach of the Westfield Shamrocks, Josh Miracle, talks about his team's road trip to Fort Wayne Caroll and how they came away with a win to advance to the state championship. Another notable road win Friday night was South Putnam against Milan. The head coach of the Eagles, Chuck Sorrell, processes a state championship birth for his team. Next, the great Paul Condry of the Regional Radio Sports Network hops on to give his perspective on Merrillville's win over Concord and what it means to the Pirate Community. Steve starts out our show with some Roncalli vs. Chatard match-up. Roncalli was able to take this in dominant fashion with a score of 26-6. He says they were able to get out early and really stick it to Chatard early and they never recovered. Big penalties were also a saga for Chatard. Dave comes to switch it up with some basketball with Ball State. BSB took on Mansfield with a Ball State win of 84-54. Mr. Eha talks about some stand-outs and what to look out for. Max calls in with a huge win for Indian Creek. They won their sectionals, 49-13 against Scottsburg. Greg calls in to talk about some Carmel vs. Westfield. This was a heated midwest match-up. Carmel comes out on top with a close 23-20 win. Greg talks about what to look for moving forward. Mr. Huber calls in for a Lapel and Triton Central, Lapel wins 28-15. Another caller, Dalton Bishop, calls in to talk about Eastbrook vs. Eastern where Eastbrook comes out on top, 31-28. Mr. Cooks calls in to talk about some Roncalli action and gives us a different perspective. We add in some winning coaches in Brian Dugger and Josh Yoder. Full Text of ReadingsFriday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 465The Saint of the day is Saint John XXIIISaint John XXIII's Story Although few people had as great an impact on the 20th century as Pope John XXIII, he avoided the limelight as much as possible. Indeed, one writer has noted that his “ordinariness” seems one of his most remarkable qualities. The firstborn son of a farming family in Sotto il Monte, near Bergamo in northern Italy, Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was always proud of his down-to-earth roots. In Bergamo's diocesan seminary, he joined the Secular Franciscan Order. After his ordination in 1904, Fr. Roncalli returned to Rome for canon law studies. He soon worked as his bishop's secretary, Church history teacher in the seminary, and as publisher of the diocesan paper. His service as a stretcher-bearer for the Italian army during World War I gave him a firsthand knowledge of war. In 1921, Fr. Roncalli was made national director in Italy of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. He also found time to teach patristics at a seminary in the Eternal City. In 1925, he became a papal diplomat, serving first in Bulgaria, then in Turkey, and finally in France. During World War II, he became well acquainted with Orthodox Church leaders. With the help of Germany's ambassador to Turkey, Archbishop Roncalli helped save an estimated 24,000 Jewish people. Named a cardinal and appointed patriarch of Venice in 1953, he was finally a residential bishop. A month short of entering his 78th year, Cardinal Roncalli was elected pope, taking the name John after his father and the two patrons of Rome's cathedral, St. John Lateran. Pope John took his work very seriously but not himself. His wit soon became proverbial, and he began meeting with political and religious leaders from around the world. In 1962, he was deeply involved in efforts to resolve the Cuban missile crisis. His most famous encyclicals were Mother and Teacher (1961) and Peace on Earth (1963). Pope John XXIII enlarged the membership in the College of Cardinals and made it more international. At his address at the opening of the Second Vatican Council, he criticized the “prophets of doom” who “in these modern times see nothing but prevarication and ruin.” Pope John XXIII set a tone for the Council when he said, “The Church has always opposed… errors. Nowadays, however, the Spouse of Christ prefers to make use of the medicine of mercy rather than that of severity.” On his deathbed, Pope John said: “It is not that the gospel has changed; it is that we have begun to understand it better. Those who have lived as long as I have…were enabled to compare different cultures and traditions, and know that the moment has come to discern the signs of the times, to seize the opportunity and to look far ahead.” “Good Pope John” died on June 3, 1963. St. John Paul II beatified him in 2000, and Pope Francis canonized him in 2014. Reflection Throughout his life, Angelo Roncalli cooperated with God's grace, believing that the job at hand was worthy of his best efforts. His sense of God's providence made him the ideal person to promote a new dialogue with Protestant and Orthodox Christians, as well as with Jews and Muslims. In the sometimes noisy crypt of St. Peter's Basilica, many people become silent on seeing the simple tomb of Pope John XXIII, grateful for the gift of his life and holiness.
