If you've been missing James Hinchcliffe behind the wheel, rejoice: he'll be joining his fellow Canadians at Pfaff Motorsports for the endurance races in the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, starting with January's Rolex 24 at Daytona. It marks the first outings for the Mayor of Hinchtown since he traded in his NTT IndyCar Series helmet for a microphone at NBC Sports and on F1 TV for the past two years. The Ontario native won six times in his IndyCar career, where he drove for many of the biggest teams in the sport, but perhaps no triumph was bigger than his 2016 Indianapolis 500 pole—which came a year after a crash in practice for that race nearly killed him. Outside of racing, he was runner-up in Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars, and he continues to host Off Track, a podcast of his own with former Andretti Autosport teammate Alexander Rossi.Listen Now: Check out this episode featuring Hinch from April 2018! They also talk about why some IndyCar fans were not onboard with the Las Vegas F1 race. They also talk about circuit issues, and the manhole covers during the F1 practices, and compare them to prior IndyCar incidents. They also discuss how IndyCar can benefit from the success of F1. Later in the first hour of the show, Curt previews an upcoming interview with Jeff Gluck, and the two talks about car counts for the Indianapolis 500 so far, and for the rest of the season. Kevin breaks down what seats will be open for the 500. They also talk about some of the one-off drivers who could compete in the 500 this year that have not been announced yet. They also give their thoughts on whether there will be 38 cars or not. Kevin rounds out the first hour looking at a few more options for one-off 500 rides, including Callum Ilott and James Hinchcliffe. In the second hour of the show, Curt and Kevin look at the possibility of an IndyCar race in Argentina in 2025. They also look at some tweets from listeners of the show. Kevin and Curt answer questions about engine manufacturers, and Milwaukee tickets selling like “hot cakes.” During the second hour, Jeff Gluck of the Athletic joins the show to recap the Las Vegas Grand Prix as a fan. He talks about how grand the event was, and how some Europeans were annoyed by how in-your-face the spectacle was. He also talks about how they did not use any reds or yellows in the displays to not distract the drivers. They also talk about other NASCAR drivers that could cross over to race the 500 besides Kyle Larson. Kevin ends the show talking about F1 and IndyCar streaming possibilities, and a new face in Indy NXT. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

If you nearly died, would you want to remember it? Would that moment change how you saw your own shortcomings or the loss of a dream job? What if you had to watch an old friend go through the same thing? James Hinchcliffe is a Canadian, a former IndyCar driver, a broadcaster, and one of the nicest guys in Indianapolis. Eight years ago, when a 220-mph crash drove a suspension tube clear through his leg and femoral artery, he lost 60 percent of his blood. A few years after, he watched from the cockpit as a teammate and childhood friend was paralyzed in another violent crash. Hinch has since come to grips with a lot. How that friend's talent lit IndyCar on fire when his own just didn't. The importance of brutal honesty in a course change. And what it really takes, once you reach the top, to stay there. Driven to Fail is a podcast about what happens when things go wrong. What we do when life falls apart, and what we learn while putting it back together. Brought to you by the Hagerty Podcast Network. Note: The pre-taped intro states Hinchcliffe's age as 35. Due to production delays, this episode was not released until after he turned 36. We apologize for any confusion.

How does one go from crashing into a wall at 220 MPH in a pre-Indy 500 race, being punctured by a suspension rod in his femoral artery and almost bleeding to death, to defying all predictions for recovery only after four months and winning a Grand Prix? In one word…mindset. In this second part of Dr. Mark Costes' keynote interview with James Hinchcliffe, the six-time Indy Car Winner talks about the grit and discipline it took for him to push the limits and the mindset that spells the difference between being good and being great. Later, Dalton Kellett makes an appearance on Trackside from the Burger Bash to give an update on how he's feeling following the crash in practice, how the cat felt leading up to the accident, and what was going through his head in the final moments leading up to the crash. Also, James Hinchcliffe joins Curt and Kevin to explain how his schedule now is busier in comparison to when he was racing, if he still has the itch to drive, and gives his perspective on what it's like when you're about to crash into a wall. Finally, one of the fastest drivers during this month in Rinus Veekay makes an appearance at the Burger Bash with Curt Cavin and Kevin Lee and joins the program to give his synopsis his car heading into the race this weekend, on racing in an Indy 500 with full crowd capacity, and how the race in Texas really helps his strategy for the Indy 500.
