Today's guest is Yesenia Lemus, a three-time surrogate and the Director of Surrogate Services at Brownstone Surrogacy. Yesenia's surrogacy story actually started on the sidelines of her kid's swim team, when she met another mom who was pregnant as a surrogate and thought, Wait—I could do that. Her first journey happened during COVID, when she carried twins for intended parents in California. She talks about the bond she formed with them, how she explained surrogacy to her own kids, and why she sees it as such a powerful act of generosity. She and Ali also get into the highs and lows of her journeys—including an embryo that didn't survive the thaw—and why the entire experience has been so empowering for her. Yesenia also shares why she found the entire process so empowering—and how she went from surrogate to making this work her career. For more, go to www.brownstonesurrogacy.com IG: @brownstonesurrogacyEPISODE SPONSORS: THE WORK OF ART BOOK SERIESAli's Children's Book Series about IVF, IUI and Family Building Through Assisted Reproductive Technology https://www.infertileafgroup.com/booksThe latest book in the Work of ART series, “You Are a Work of ART," is for every kiddo born through ART -- and the people who love them.Stay tuned for Petri Dish Princess, book #4, coming this fall!EXTEND FERTILITYExtend Fertility is a leading fertility clinic helping people take control of their reproductive futures through egg freezing, embryo freezing, IVF, and more. “Everything I did was about making my parents proud,” said retired Ontario Court of Justice judge Harvey Brownstone, summing up his lifetime struggle for acceptance. Rejected and cut off at age 19 when he told his parents he was gay, Hamilton native Harvey Brownstone went on to succeed in school, in the legal profession, and now in the world of show business. But his new book, “Without Prejudice: My Life as a Gay Judge” , which was released earlier this summer, reveals the heart-breaking personal cost of fighting homophobia from his family, at university, Bay Street law firms, and even from the top level of the Ontario government. But as Brownstone turned 70 last week, on July 24, he is thrilled that his life story is now touching a chord with so many readers both in the gay community and beyond. His book has been on the bestseller lists. Soon, a new Hollywood bio-pic of his life, starring David Arquette, based on the manuscript, is to be released this fall. And while Brownstone doesn't have his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, nearly five years post-retirement from the bench, he's already interviewed hundreds of famous movie stars since he launched his second career as a celebrity talk-show host in 2021. On today's episode of The CJN's North Star podcast, Harvey Brownstone returns to the show to talk about the reaction to his new book: he shares how he finally forgave his mother, why the Ontario court system — specially family court — needs a serious remake, and he gives his advice for any young people considering when to “come out” to their families. In this episode of Cutaneous Miscellaneous, host Nicholas Brownstone, MD, welcomes Leo Wang, MD, assistant professor of dermatology and bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania, for a conversation on dermatology research and how clinical questions can drive innovation in the lab. They begin with a boards review on topical drug delivery, with a practical breakdown of common vehicles and how differences in water content influence occlusion, tolerability, and clinical use. Dr Wang also reviews stratum corneum biology and how it impacts drug delivery. The discussion then turns to life as a dermatology researcher. Dr Wang shares why he chose a research-heavy career, how he built his lab, and how clinical practice informs his research priorities. He and Dr Brownstone also discuss funding realities, time management, and how residents can explore research paths during and after training. Tune into the episode for boards pearls, insight into research-focused careers in dermatology, and guidance for residents interested in shaping the future of skin therapeutics.
There's about to be a new jazz club in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. Johnnie Brown, noted local singer, is opening up the Brownstone in a newly refurbished space at 28th Street and Hennepin Avenue. To help the Brownstone get going, Crooners Supper Club in Fridley is holding a benefit concert by Johnnie Brown, this Monday, June 29 at 6pm. Where'd the idea for the club come from? When Johnnie talked with Phil Nusbaum, Johnnie said the idea for the Brownstone started to take shape over coffee.
In this powerful and deeply personal episode of THE AVRUM ROSENSWEIG SHOW, Avrum sits down with his dear friend HARVEY BROWNSTONE — Canada's first openly gay judge, celebrated interviewer, proud Jew, and author of the extraordinary memoir Without Prejudice: My Life as a Gay Judge. Harvey's story is one of remarkable courage. From a bullied child and rejected young man to a pioneering lawyer, distinguished judge, national bestselling author, and beloved media personality, his life is a testament to resilience, truth, ambition, forgiveness, and the refusal to disappear. In this conversation, Harvey speaks with humour, honesty, and moving vulnerability about the pain of parental rejection, the drive that came from being underestimated, the mentors who saved him, the barriers he faced as an openly gay man in the legal world, and the extraordinary second act that made him one of the most respected interviewers on the internet. This is not only an interview about law, celebrity, identity, or success. It is a conversation about becoming fully oneself after years of being told to hide. It is about turning rejection into fuel, pain into purpose, and personal truth into public courage. Six poignant moments in the interview: 00:03:25 — Avrum introduces Harvey's life as a story of courage, truth, resilience, and what becomes possible when a human being refuses to hide who they are. 00:12:45 — Harvey explains how writing his memoir forced him to relive painful memories, and why telling the story required taking the reader back into the most difficult moments of his life. 00:14:00 — Harvey describes recording the audiobook as a cleansing, cathartic, and redemptive experience — saying his story out loud allowed him to feel a new level of healing. 00:15:43 — Harvey reflects on “success as the best revenge,” explaining that the people who bullied, rejected, and underestimated him were never going to apologize — so he chose to validate himself through achievement. 00:18:40 — Harvey speaks powerfully about the two gifts his parents gave him: self-esteem and rejection. One gave him strength; the other gave him drive. 00:32:40 — Harvey remembers Mrs. Jarrett, the teacher who protected him from bullies, believed in him, and helped change the direction of his life. In the fall, a feature film about Harvey will be released called "Without Prejudice", a Hollywood biographical drama adapted from his memoir, 'Without Prejudice: My Life as a Gay Judge'. The film chronicles his turbulent, tempestuous, and often triumphant journey from being a severely bullied child and a rejected outcast to becoming Canada's first openly gay judge, a landmark civil rights champion, and a celebrated celebrity interviewer. David Arquette stars as Harvey in his later adult life, while David Mazouz plays the young adult. Through it all, Harvey Brownstone emerges as a person of extraordinary wit, toughness, sensitivity, and heart. His story reminds us that a life can be wounded and still become magnificent, that rejection does not have to define us, and that sometimes the very thing meant to break us becomes the force that carries us forward. ——

Almost 30 years as a judge teaches you a lot about people. Harvey Brownstone witnessed thousands of family and criminal cases and shares what those experiences taught him about conflict, relationships and forgiveness. Harvey explains why he believes family court often fails people and why so many Canadians struggle to access justice. We also reflect on his personal journey as Canada's first openly gay judge.

Kinsella on Liberty Podcast: Episode 485. My recent appearance on The Brownstone Show, Ep. 17 (twitter video). https://youtu.be/n_HE_nXf3aM?si=3eYpF5jW5HadXwJD&t=1942 From Brownstone's shownotes: Jeffrey Tucker sits down with Stephan Kinsella...libertarian attorney, author of the seminal 2001 essay "Against Intellectual Property", and the massive treatise "Legal Foundations of a Free Society"...for a provocative discussion on why defamation (libel and slander) law should be rejected as just another form of intellectual property right. Kinsella argues that reputation is not ownable property. What others think of you cannot be controlled or turned into a legal entitlement. Defamation law, like patents, copyrights, and trademarks, rests on the flawed idea that the state should protect intangible "rights" through force. He explains how these laws create chilling effects, perverse incentives, and actually amplify the harm of false speech rather than reduce it. Topics covered include: Why intellectual property (including trademarks and defamation) is incompatible with true property rights and free markets The historical and common-law roots of defamation and how it morphed into reputation-as-property How the existence of defamation lawsuits gives lies more credibility ("If it weren't true, he would have sued") Free speech, threats, and the limits of state power Private alternatives: reputation markets, certification agencies, dueling culture, caveat emptor for information, and why a truly free society would be more (not less) regulated by voluntary rules Connections to patents destroying innovation (especially in pharma and software), NDAs, cancel culture, and the illusion of safety created by regulatory bodies like the FDA Why "buyer beware" should apply to both products and information in a free society This is a challenging, nuanced conversation that questions deeply held assumptions about law, harm, honor, and reputation. Even if you initially disagree, Kinsella's razor-sharp property-rights analysis will make you rethink how we handle speech, lies, and "harm" in the digital age. Tweet:

Randall Bock, a primary care physician and writer, discusses science as both knowledge and method, warning that post-COVID dissent can harden into new dogma. He argues the autism “epidemic” is confounded by shifting definitions, DSM changes, diagnostic substitution (notably from intellectual disability), incentives, and social context, making single-cause claims unreliable. Bock describes internal conflict with Brownstone and criticizes Toby Rogers' vaccine-centered, revolutionary framing, including calls for massive reparations and abolishing vaccines, as unscientific moral certainty. He supports case-by-case risk–benefit thinking on vaccines and urges precise classification and evidence-led inquiry, comparing autism debates to oversimplified climate debates.00:00 What Science Really Is03:30 From Dissent To Dogma05:48 Blind Men And Autism09:04 Defining Autism First10:49 Why Autism Looks Bigger15:50 Genes Epigenetics And Timing18:36 Twin Studies And Disputes21:32 Diagnostic Drift And Labels26:24 Mental Health Incentives29:47 More Analogies Chrysalis30:11 Butterfly Spectrum Metaphor31:12 Gala Night Confrontation35:01 Amateur Versus Expert37:06 Autism Tsunami Claims39:32 Marxist Vaccine Narrative41:45 Denialism and Data43:49 Monocausal Vaccine Thesis45:59 Anger and Overcorrection48:08 Amish and Diagnosis Context51:44 Climate Analogy and Precision55:48 RFK Memory and Institutions57:25 Case by Case Conclusionhttps://x.com/@DrRandallBockAutism, Vaccines, and the Diagnostic Empire: https://randoctor.substack.com/p/autism-vaccines-and-the-diagnosticThe Truth About Autism and Vaccines Doesn't Suit Either Side: https://dailysceptic.org/2026/02/14/the-truth-about-autism-and-vaccines-doesnt-suit-either-side/The Hidden Cost of Mental Health Parity”: https://brownstone.org/articles/the-hidden-cost-of-mental-health-parity/Unraveling Autism's Surge: Genetics, Environment, and the Expanding Diagnostic Net https://randoctor.substack.com/p/unraveling-autisms-surge=========Slides, summaries, references, and transcripts of my podcasts: https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summariesMy Linktree: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1

Send us a textAfter an excruciating knee-tweak, Catherine Butterfield streamed into the Playwright's Spotlight being laid up on the couch. Proof that playwrights will go above and beyond, so we were unable to do the originally planned in-person interview. In this episode, we breakdown layering stories in the same location throughout different eras, when it's time to share and direct one's work, and "stumbling" upon commissions and opportunities. We also delve into New York being a musical theatre bastion, the effect of AI on creativity, receiving, achieving, and the benefits of awards, and seeking out competitions. We dive into major city and smaller markets, the pros and cons of Equity Theatre, never locking decisions down, multiple drafts and plot twists, and adjusting for casting. If there are layers in playwriting, there are definitely layers to this interview. Enjoy!Catherine Butterfield is a playwright, screenwriter, and director. Her play Joined at the Head won the George E. Oppenheimer/New York Newsday Award for outstanding play by a first-time playwright. She has also received the Kennedy Center-American Express award for outstanding promise as a playwright; the Kaufman & Hart Award for best new American comedy for her play The Sleeper; and the Davie Award for best new play in regional theater for Life in the Trees. Her play Top of the World was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Eugene O'Neill playwriting competition and has been optioned for production in New York. Other plays include Electra, Revisited, include Life Expectancy, It Has to Be You, The Sleeper, Where the Truth Lies, Snowing at Delphi and Life in the Trees published by Dramatists Play Service, Samuel French and Playscripts, Inc.Her play Brownstone opens January 24th and runs through February 28th at the Atwater Village Theater in Los Angeles, CA. For many Americans, the COVID-19 era revealed profound ruptures in American society. While some are eager to move on from that period and simply return to “normal,” there are others who wonder: Is it really that simple? How can we move forward without truly reconciling with the profound brokenness that was revealed in the last five years? How can we simply ignore or forget those who were censored, deplatformed, surveilled, fired, socially exiled, or irrevocably injured? And if a new virus were to spread in America, can we really say that the same things wouldn't happen all over again? At the center of the people asking these questions is the Brownstone Institute, founded by Jeffrey Tucker, senior economics columnist at The Epoch Times. Brownstone has become a safe haven for free thinkers to deliberate on some of the most profound questions of our time.“We're really at this precipice. We don't know which way we're going to go,” Tucker says.In this episode, he breaks down nine key foundational institutions of American life that he believes are in desperate need of reform.“We need a different system, a renewed and refreshed system of ideas production and teaching production in this country, with new independent institutions that are willing to stand up and do the right thing, [that] embrace classical forms of teaching and have a broad-minded approach to academia,” Tucker says.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

In 1999, Bobbie Spencer faced challenges in both her family and romantic relationships. She tried to build a healthier relationship with Carly, offering her and Michael a place at the Brownstone and warning her not to use Jason's kindness to her advantage. Their already tense dynamic grew more complicated when Bobbie discovered AJ was Michael's father and realized how deeply Carly's lies had affected everyone involved. Bobbie also coped with Ruby's sudden death, taking charge of the memorial at Kelly's and finding a brief moment of understanding with Carly in their shared grief.Bobbie's relationship with Jerry Jacks grew serious, leading to a proposal and planned wedding that ended abruptly when he was arrested for money laundering. She leaned on friends like Luke, Felicia, and Laura while trying to balance her role as a mother and nurse. Later, she reconnected with her former love Roy DiLucca after his unexpected return to town, adding another layer of complication to her personal life. By the end of the year, Bobbie was still managing family conflicts, her professional responsibilities, and the fallout from her romantic relationships — steady but weary from everything she had endured.Listen at GeneralHospitalPodcast.com #BobbieSpencer #GH1998 #GeneralHospital #PortCharles #CarlyCorinthos #CarolineBenson #LukeSpencer #TonyJones #JerryJacks #LucasJones #LizWebber #GHHistory #SoapOperaLegend #GHFamily #GHThrowback #JackieZeman #AJQuartermaine #JasonMorgan #JerryJax #StefanCassadine #BradMaule #RubyAnderson #RoyDiLucca #MonicaQuartermaine #AlanQuartermaine #FeliciaScorpio #MacScorpio #LuckySpencer This podcast is not endorsed by, directly affiliated with, maintained, authorized, or sponsored by ABC Television Network, Prospect Studios, or any official General Hospital organizations. Margo sits down with Barry Bordelon and Jordan Slocum—better known as The Brownstone Boys—a Brooklyn-based couple, award-winning interior designers, and renovation experts known for their ability to breathe new life into historic homes while keeping design fresh, livable, and true to their roots. What began as a shared passion project to restore their first brownstone quickly became a creative business built on authenticity, approachability, and an unshakable belief in learning by doing. Without formal design training, Barry and Jordan leaned on curiosity, community, and sheer persistence to grow their brand into one of the most trusted names in renovation. Along the way, they've worked with clients like Kerry Washington and Peloton's Anna Greenberg, launched collaborations with brands like Blueprint Lighting, and released their debut book For the Love of Renovating. Together, they share what it means to build a business (and a life) together, how to stay grounded in your values, and why the most beautiful spaces often come from imperfect beginnings. Margo, Barry and Jordan discuss: How a bike ride through Brooklyn led to a shared dream of restoring a brownstone—and building a creative business from the ground up. The early days of The Brownstone Boys and how posting their real-life renovation journey online unexpectedly launched a design career. Learning by doing—why neither formal training nor perfectionism are prerequisites for success. The power of authenticity on social media and how showing the real moments built their loyal community. Finding balance and clarity in a creative partnership—how Barry and Jordan divide roles, communicate, and keep their vision aligned. Their signature design philosophy: honoring history while adding a clean, modern touch. How playlists and personal stories inspire their design process and make every project feel soulful and lived-in. The importance of humility, collaboration, and staying curious in creative work. “The look on his face is like a kid on Christmas morning getting everything that he never asked for from Santa…” July 21,1987 marked the beginning of the GUNS N' ROSES era of L.A. metal with APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION, the scorching debut album chock full of enough sleaze, swagger, and excess to put the boys in Motley Crue to shame. If Slayer were the 80's answer to 70's Sabbath, then it's not a stretch to say that G'N'R were the 80's answer to 70's Aerosmith, with a loudness that falls right in that “in between” phase of hard rock and heavy metal. Whose lab created SARS-CoV-2? Virologist Dr. Li-Meng Yan says it was “all China.” But Dr. Clayton Baker insists US biolabs at UNC Chapel Hill played a role. A new Brownstone report points at “US virologist Ralph Baric” and alleges damning details that indicate he “engineered the Covid-19 virus SARS-CoV-2 in his lab at the University of North Carolina as part of his work in connection with the 2018 DEFUSE funding proposal” first leaked by “Major Joseph Murphy, an employee of US military research agency DARPA, in the summer of 2021…” Dr. Li-Meng Yan is a Chinese virologist with an MD from Central South University and PhD in ophthalmology from Southern Medical University. She hosts The Voice of Dr. Yan on America Out Loud Radio Network and is best known for publishing claims that SARS-CoV-2 originated in a Chinese lab. The ‘Lab Leak' obsession's narrow focus on origin debates has distracted the nation's attention away from this critical point which is crucial to understand if we are to survive the next series of fear porn attacks and crisis solution mongering from the global elites whom Trump apparently works for. This is a HYPER critical point which #MAHA cannot seem to grasp. Debbie Lerman, researcher & Brownstone fellow said this over the weekend:"I'm gonna say something that might be shocking or surprising. It doesn't matter where COVID came from, and it doesn't matter what it is. And the reason is this, COVID, the virus, whatever it was, SARS CoV 2, did not destroy the world. It barely killed any I mean, it killed some people, but not a lot. Certainly not as many as they said. What killed the world was the response.”She is right.
