Episode 197 features Brandi L M & The Bottomshelf from Austin, TX. She is a pop/alt/rock singer songwriter originally from York, PA. Her songs generally focus on mental health and the stresses of working while being an aspiring musician. In our conversation we talked a lot about her recent move to Austin as well as a lot of candid stories regarding her struggles, successes, and goals. Brandi is currently a full time musician and has been releasing music since 2019. I featured her most popular song “Sleeping Alone” on this episode. If you like it you can definitely stream it wherever you listen to music. Thanks for listening and supporting local artists. Episode 194 is final episode from our mini-SXSW series, featuring our buds Souls Extolled of Austin, TX. They are a psychedelic rock trio who describe their sound as “Ozzy having a love child with Rancid on acid.” Singer/songwriter Zach Black was kind enough to let us stay at his place while we were in town. This is technically Souls Extolled third time on the show but it was our first time doing in an interview in person. We sat down at the bar after their set at Hole In The Wall ATX and talked about everything the band has been up to since we last met in NYC. Since their national tour in 2022, the guys have focused on writing and recording another record as well as playing shows around Texas. So we talked a lot about that and the general state of the music scene in Austin. spotify -- Part-Time Rockstar Fest is 6/3/23 at Fish Head Cantina in Baltimore, MD. -- Podcast merch is available on Shopify. This week's episode features Brian Wolff out of Austin, TX. He is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter who's musical style draws influence heavily from Classic Rock, 90's Alternative, and Blues. His playing style has been described as “tasteful, yet powerful.” He led the band Fair City Fire for 7 years as they produced two LPs and embarked on five national tours. When the band split during the pandemic, Wolff narrowed his focus on writing songs and moving forward as a solo artist. Wolff released his debut EP called, “The Punch.” His band, Brian Wolff & The Howlers, features Tim Moen on bass and Joe Valadez on drums (also of Soul's Extolled). I featured two of Brian's songs on the episode. One is called “The Punch” and the other is “I love you, Goodnight.” I should also mention that Brian is playing Meanwhile Brewing with his band tonight at 8pm. So if you are listening in from the Austin area definitely feel free to swing by. Links listed in the episode notes. I took a much needed break/reset but now I'm back. I had a conversation with Ian MacDougall and we talked about everything from being in bands such as Broken Gold, Band of Horses and Riverboat Gamblers to accidentally seeing a Huey Lewis show in New Orleans and also teaching music at School of Rock Austin in these Covid times. I've known Ian for a little while now and it was cool to catchup and talk about movies, music and also what it's like to be an artist in today's world with the Covid. I think we talked about food and working out or was I dreaming? Anyhow, go check out his music and follow him on social media and tell him I didn't send you. Super stoked and grateful he took the time out to talk. Thanks Ian. Is WrestleMania 19 the most underrated WrestleMania of all time? It's Brock's first WrestleMania and he's in the main event for the World Title. It's Steve Austin's last WrestleMania and finale of the Austin-Rock trilogy. It's Shawn Michael's first WrestleMania in five years and he stole the show with Chris Jericho. This is the most "stacked" roster in company history. Jeff Hardy, Batista, Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, Goldberg, and John Cena are all on the roster but not on the show. With this loaded roster, why was business down? The buy-rate was down 36% from 2002 but why? Were fans not ready for Angle-Lesnar in the top spot? Did the Undertaker not have a big enough match? Was Hogan-Vince what people saw as the focal point? Had the Rock-Austin feud lost some of it's luster? Of course that night will mostly be remembered for the Shooting Star Press in the main event. We cover that in great detail including never before heard details of the fallout of that evening for both men and you won't believe it. Plus we examine the unbelievable choices the WWE made regarding the Booker T-Triple H storyline to build to WrestleMania, the silliness of the Miller Lite Cat Fight Girls, Torrie's Playboy, the WWE theme ride in Niagra Falls, why the World finally closed, how Austin and Hogan got along, the Flair-Bischoff fight, the Heyman-Gewirtz fight, Shawn's relationship with Vince, Jeff Hardy's diminishing interest in wrestling, Tommy Dreamer on the writing team, the original plans for John Cena at WrestleMania, Kevin Kelly, more on Nathan Jones, the rise of Benoit and Guerrero, how the plans came together at the last minute for Piper, who was considered for that spot, and the unbelievable stuff we saw Vince McMahon do in his match against Hulk Hogan. But most of all we discuss the unfortunate sendoff of "Stone Cold" as it's the retirement match that nobody knew about.
