What is the key to effective leadership? According to CEO, author and entrepreneur Ryan Larson, it's the ability to listen empathetically, learn continually, stay calm under fire and instill confidence in others. One day, when a fire broke out at his place of work, everyone in the building was evacuated immediately. As the fire department arrived, everyone stood in the parking lot looking on in anticipation. Some people were anxious, others impatient, a few people were likely bored with the whole ordeal and wished they were somewhere else. But Ryan was mesmerized. As he watched the fire department work, he instantly knew that's what he wanted to do with his life. It wasn't the excitement of the job, or the bravery they displayed, although that did make an impression. For Ryan, it was the teamwork that allowed the fire department to work so efficiently and effectively at accomplishing a critical mission, saving lives. His father, a military man and an assistant coach, instilled the principles of work ethic, service and team work into him early in life. That served Ryan in sports and now he was witnessing it play out in front of him in a way that inspired him to join the Phoenix Fire Department, Where he learned about humility, leadership and being coachable in order to continually grow and adapt. These lessons he learned in the fire department served him through the evolution of his career as a financial advisor, entrepreneur, author and CEO. In this episode Ryan Larson shares the lessons he has learned on leadership that helped him add value to those inside and out of his organization and attain financial freedom.
