Ride of Joy: Meet the Real-Life Secret Santa Spreading Cheer on Wheels About the Guest(s): Ryan Larson is a dedicated community member known for his unique holiday initiative as Utah's very own "Secret Santa." With a love for Christmas and spreading joy, Ryan decorates his beat-up white 1996 truck with Christmas lights and a Santa doll in the passenger seat to spread holiday cheer. He began this heartwarming tradition five years ago and has become a recognized figure in his community for his efforts to bring smiles and happiness, especially to children and families in parking lots and street junctions. Episode Summary: Join Chris Voss on an enlightening journey into the festive world of holiday spirit and generosity as he interviews Ryan Larson, a modern-day Secret Santa who turns his truck into a beacon of Christmas joy. In this heartwarming episode, Chris engages Ryan in a discussion about the inspiration behind his holiday tradition of spreading cheer by decorating his vehicle with Christmas lights. Ryan shares stories of kindness and the positive impact this gesture has on the community, highlighting moments of joy and the occasional police interaction that highlight the law's appreciation for his mission. Ryan Larson's festive endeavor takes center stage as he reveals how his passion for Christmas led him to transform his old truck into a mobile display of holiday spirit. For five years, Ryan has driven through neighborhoods and public places, bringing smiles and joy to kids and adults alike. The episode offers an engaging exploration of how small acts of holiday kindness can brighten lives, challenge the apprehension of taking unconventional paths, and inspire listeners to evoke the spirit of giving. Featuring impactful anecdotes and engaging dialogue, the episode encourages listeners to consider how they might also spread joy in their own communities. Key Takeaways: Ryan Larson started his truck-decorating tradition five years ago to bring joy during the Christmas season, focusing on creating smiles wherever he drives. His mission embraces the notion that giving and spreading happiness can be an enriching personal experience, one that has rewarded him as much as those who see his truck. Ryan's story includes a memorable interaction with a police officer who wanted to take a photo of his decorated truck, showcasing community support and appreciation. The episode emphasizes how anyone can contribute positively to their communities, using even the simplest of gestures to cast light and cheer during holidays. Chris Voss reflects on the importance of finding ways to lift others up during bleak times, revealing how the change in the podcast's direction during the COVID-19 pandemic brought more personal and inspiring content. Notable Quotes: "I just like to help people smile. So it's amazing, especially if you go into a Costco or a Walmart or a Target parking lot and you see the kids coming out with their parents." "For me, it was overcoming that uncertainty of if I should do it. And if I get caught doing it." "I can honestly say I probably get as much or more out of it as anybody that sees the truck does." "It doesn't take all that much to be kind. That's the great thing about being kind." "There's a saying, lift where you stand. So regardless of where I'm at or what I'm doing… lift where I drive."

This week on the podcast, Ryan Larson joins Bradley to discuss his lifelong passion for helping others mitigate risk, and his unique approach to leadership. Ryan Larson is a seasoned wealth advisor and the founder and CEO of FirstLine Financial, LLC, based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Ryan embodies the qualities of a trustworthy leader and believes everyone deserves a chance to lead a life they can be proud of as they enter retirement. He credits his empathetic leadership approach to his experience as a firefighter, a career that gave him a sense of purpose and a lifelong passion for helping others mitigate risk. In his new business memoir, Ladder to Leader: My Journey from Failure to Fire to Financial Freedom (Calling Card Books, May 2022), Ryan shares the true story of his evolution from a troubled youth to a successful founder and CEO—and the many life and business lessons he learned along the way. He recounts the struggles he experienced in school, how he felt like an outsider at home, and the unexpected turns his life took, including some of the lowest points that eventually led him to where he is today. It was Ryan's mom who first encouraged him to join the Fire Department Explorer Program, where the entrance exam transformed his mindset and gave him the confidence that would carry him through challenges he had yet to face. Later, he discovered his passion for investing and financial education, becoming an expert in helping people protect their life savings from unnecessary risks and market fluctuations by creating tax efficiencies. In his practice at FirstLine Financial, he focuses on supporting retirees and transitioning boomers with all of their wealth management needs. Whether helping them grow assets for the future, or preserving and reallocating them in retirement, he utilizes a unique combination of time-tested strategies for both securities and insurance offerings. Ryan and his wife, Kate, co-founder of FirstLine Financial, live in Scottsdale, Arizona. Together, they enjoy the hustle of being business partners and raising their two children, Mia and Bryson. What is the key to effective leadership?  According to CEO, author and entrepreneur Ryan Larson, it's the ability to listen empathetically, learn continually, stay calm under fire and instill confidence in others. One day, when a fire broke out at his place of work, everyone in the building was evacuated immediately.  As the fire department arrived, everyone stood in the parking lot looking on in anticipation.  Some people were anxious, others impatient, a few people were likely bored with the whole ordeal and wished they were somewhere else.  But Ryan was mesmerized. As he watched the fire department work, he instantly knew that's what he wanted to do with his life.  It wasn't the excitement of the job, or the bravery they displayed, although that did make an impression.  For Ryan, it was the teamwork that allowed the fire department to work so efficiently and effectively at accomplishing a critical mission, saving lives.  His father, a military man and an assistant coach, instilled the principles of work ethic, service and team work into him early in life. That served Ryan in sports and now he was witnessing it play out in front of him in a way that inspired him to join the Phoenix Fire Department,  Where he learned about humility, leadership and being coachable in order to continually grow and adapt.  These lessons he learned in the fire department served him through the evolution of his career as a financial advisor, entrepreneur, author and CEO.  In this episode Ryan Larson shares the lessons he has learned on leadership that helped him add value to those inside and out of his organization and attain financial freedom. I loved this conversation and I hope you will too.  For more information on Ryan Larson and his book “Ladder to Leader” visit:www.laddertoleaderbook.comEnjoy!
