Today on What's My Frame? I'm joined by Poker Face hair department head, Marcel Dagenais. I had the absolute joy of meeting Marcel last year on the set of Rain Johnson's new series Poker Face. In the week leading up to joining the show I was blown away by Marcel and his team's attention to detail and pre planing. It dawned on me so many actors don't know what to expect after the offer email. We spend so much time focusing on getting the job we don't discuss the flood of emails / txts and planing that happens between booking and landing on set. Today Marcel and I discuss just that, how to share helping info with the hair & MUA department heads before arriving in their trailer along with so many more helpful tips. Of course we also dive into Marcel's work in commercials and editorial along with a few favorites stories from set including a wild one from Russian Doll. We've climbed up in our childhood treehouse and we're not coming down! Sarah Violet Bliss (Search Party) joins us to talk about “Sweetie” - Jane Campion's off-kilter meditation on suburbia and sibling rivalry. Revelations within the episode include the fact that David was part of the “Neighbours Society” at Uni (a group of students in favor of airing the Aussie soap in common areas twice daily); that one of the IMDB tags for this movie is “Rides A Man Like A Horse”; that Producer Ben has *definitely* known a few Sweetie-types in his life; and more! Q&A with co-creators, showrunners, executive producers, writers & directors Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, and actors Meredith Hagner, John Reynolds, and John Early. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. The disappearance of former college acquaintance Chantal leads several 20-somethings to get entangled in the mystery of how she went missing. Leading the search party is Dory, a lifelong doormat who works as a rich housewife's assistant. Dory makes it her personal mission to find Chantal -- and she's bringing her friends into the investigation with her. Self-diagnosed narcissist Elliott, who puts his ego aside long enough to agree to help Dory, is particularly good at detective work. Bubbly actress Portia excels at chatting up suspects for information because of her desperate need to be in the spotlight. Sheltered-but-sweet doofus Drew has to grow a spine to help solve the mystery and save his deteriorating relationship with Dory. Dory's ex-boyfriend Julian seeks the truth, regardless of who it hurts, because of his background as a journalist.
The final season of the genre-defying series "Search Party" has been released on HBO Max. The series began with a group of millennials, led by Dory (Alia Shawkat), searching for a woman they went to college with after she had gone missing. But in the seasons since, the satirical takedown of New York millennials has turned into a real comedic thriller, as Dory herself becomes a famous accused murderer, and eventually finds herself imprisoned by an obsessive fan. In this final season, Dory starts a cult as she searches to provide "enlightenment" to the masses. Co-creators, executive producers, writers and directors Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers join us to discuss the final season and the series as a whole. We are also joined by actor John Reynolds, who stars as Dory's hapless boyfriend Drew.
Director John Lee discusses his new documentary film, False Positive, with fellow director Sarah-Violet Bliss in a Q&A at the DGA theater in New York. The film tells the story of Lucy and Adrian, a couple attempting to conceive who find a dream doctor in the illustrious Dr. Ingle. But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notices something sinister through Hindle's gleaming charm.
Leur but ? Régler les comptes des homophobes, des racistes et des sexistes, au boulot ou sur les réseaux sociaux. Are the main characters of Search Party victims or predators? The lines are especially blurred when it comes to Dory, who reframes her own trauma as stemming from an event beyond her control. “I know it’s crazy,” says guest Paul Scheer of Dory’s involvement in Keith’s murder, “but I see her point of view as being rational in that moment.” In this episode, Paul, host Bowen Yang, and show co-creator Sarah-Violet Bliss reveal how telling white lies can result in a slippery moral slope, and how evolution has programmed us to defend ourselves at all our costs. Sarah-Violet also explains the way in which Search Party’s story arc redefined itself over the first three seasons and what she means when she says that “the show takes us where it’s meant to go.” Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com
The creators of HBO Max's Search Party join Josh and Joe to talk about their favorite films.
Another double guest balcony session with the incredibly talented and dynamic co-creators of "Search Party," Sarah-Violet Bliss & Charles Rogers. Rick invites them over to discuss how creating and running your own show compares to working on established projects, like the "Wet Hot American Summer" television series. They discuss their first official project together, "Fort Tilden," debuting at the SXSW film festival where is ALSO won that year's Grand Jury Award, then creating the critically acclaimed (then TBS) HBO Max series, "Search Party." They deep dive into all things creative process and career highlights as well as how they work seamlessly together. Weathering the outside elements of the balcony like consummate performers, they contend with wildfire ash, poop raining down, as well as some pretty great pyrotechnics. Lots of great advice and insight into being young writers, the path to success, and the culture of writing-rooms (aka boys club culture). A great episode for some inside-baseball style info for those wondering about or wanting to join the entertainment business. Film and television creator Sarah-Violet Bliss talks about sociopaths! What makes one a sociopath, how should you deal with them and what's the difference between them and narcissists? Plus Will discusses the tropes of business self-help books and Anthony talks about a great video for the song "Wyclef Jean" by Young Thug.
The hardest thing to do in TV is master tone. We've all seen so many shows! We aren't exactly aware the moment a show's tone has failed us, but we do get a sense that things have gotten "less believable," or that the show is "all over the place," or that it "doesn't know what it wants to be." Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers are two of the creators of a fave new series of ours, "Search Party," and throughout their careers, they've proven that they're masters of consistent, hilarious and unpredictable tone.
