I sit down with Leif Tilden, the man behind Donatello in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films. From the legendary Jim Henson Creature Shop to the prehistoric set of Dinosaurs, Leif shares incredible stories from a career spent bringing beloved characters to life through physical performance and puppetry. In this episode, Leif discusses his roots in experimental theater at NYU and how that unique training prepared him for the intense demands of suit performance. You will hear firsthand accounts of what it was really like working with director Steve Barron, navigating the complex animatronics of the turtle suits, and the genuine brotherhood formed between the four actors under the shells. Leif takes me behind the scenes of the hit show Dinosaurs where he played Robbie Sinclair and operated the arms for the formidable BP Richfield. In this episode, we sit down with American painter Lauren Tilden, a gifted portraitist who left New Jersey behind for the hills of rural West Virginia. We talk about art, faith, farm life, and what it means to capture a person's soul on canvas. Lauren shares how three families uprooted their lives and landed on a West Virginia property where horses had literally been living in the farmhouse, and how that unlikely adventure has shaped everything since. She talks about regenerative farming, homeschooling, the surprisingly vibrant arts scene in Appalachia, and how the intensely green West Virginia landscape has already begun to change her palette.

In this episode of the Rainmaker Podcast, Gui Costin sits down with Larry Pokora, Managing Director on the Investor Relations team at Tilden Park Capital, to unpack a 30+ year career spanning traditional asset management, alternatives, and institutional fundraising. The conversation moves from Pokora's blue-collar upbringing in Pittsburgh to his hard-earned perspective on what actually drives long-term success in fundraising.Pokora begins by tracing his career back to an unconventional starting point: working as a programmer analyst at Mellon Financial Services after attending the Community College of Allegheny County. That early technical role, he explains, trained him to think linearly, diagnose problems, and stay disciplined when things didn't work the first time. Those habits—problem-solving, persistence, and accountability, became foundational as he transitioned into product specialist and sales roles within Mellon.A pivotal chapter followed at SEI Investments, where Pokora gained broad exposure to how asset managers, consultants, and investment teams operate. His time at SEI provided a full view of the institutional ecosystem, from OCIO mandates to consulting dynamics, while reinforcing the importance of preparation and repetition in winning mandates. Despite success, Pokora recognized a gap in his experience: he wanted to work closer to firms actually managing capital. That realization led him to Brandywine Asset Management and later to what he describes as a career-defining move, joining Paulson & Company in 2006, just ahead of the Global Financial Crisis. Fundraising during this period required more than performance figures; it demanded the ability to clearly explain complex strategies to consultants and allocators navigating fear, skepticism, and unfamiliar instruments. Pokora emphasizes that sales at this level is ultimately about education and translation, not persuasion.Throughout the conversation, Pokora outlines a clear fundraising philosophy. First, knowledge is non-negotiable, knowing your product, understanding portfolio fit, and being fluent in competitors' strategies. Second, there are no shortcuts. Even decades into his career, Pokora still prioritizes volume, preparation, and follow-through. Third, disciplined CRM usage is a competitive advantage, enabling better client engagement, internal reporting, and accountability.Beyond tactics, Pokora highlights the less discussed but equally important role of energy and leadership. Investor relations professionals set the tone within an organization, particularly during challenging periods. Showing up prepared, optimistic, and transparent builds trust internally and externally. The episode closes with practical advice on internal communication, executive interaction, and final presentations, reinforcing a recurring theme: success in fundraising is built through consistency, clarity, and doing the work, day after day, cycle after cycle.Tired of chasing outdated leads? A “tree army” from the 1930s helped build today's Tilden and other East Bay regional parks. The program's impact can still be felt today. Then, a story about how a friend can help you see, and change, yourself. It's a new story from California Institution for Women. Plus, a poem!
“I've thought this deal is going to be over several times… and every time it gets like that and injuries come up or life changes or whatever happens, I always try to pray a lot about it.” — Tilden HooperIn this episode, I sit down with one of the most respected bareback riders in professional rodeo — Tilden Hooper, now heading into his 10th consecutive NFR. With nearly two decades in the arena, Tilden opens up about the highs, the setbacks, and the faith that's kept him grounded through it all.We dive into how rodeo has evolved, what longevity really looks like in this sport, and the lessons he's learned about balance — from fitness and recovery to marriage and fatherhood. He shares how his friendship with Casey Field shaped his career and why keeping things simple, both in the arena and in life, has been the key to lasting success. This conversation is honest, humble, and full of heart — a true reminder that winning isn't always about the gold buckle; sometimes it's about the people, prayers, and purpose that keep you in the saddle.
Starting a beverage brand might be one of the hardest things you can do in CPG. The margins are thin, the logistics are brutal, and most investors will tell you not to even try. But Harvard Business School grad Vanessa Royle and her co-founder did it anyway. They built Tilden, a ready-to-drink, premium non-alcoholic cocktail from the ground up. It all started with kitchen experiments, then they raised their first friends-and-family round with intention, and structured their seed raise to last. From the start, they made one simple but rare choice: to build for profitability, not hype, to grow slowly, stay intentional, and do things on their own terms. But that gets hard once the feedback starts rolling in. Every investor has a different take on pricing, strategy, and what success should look like. Somewhere in all those opinions, even the most confident founder can start second-guessing themselves. Vanessa eventually learned that sometimes, you really do know your business better than any investor. Feedback can be helpful, but it doesn't mean you have to change direction every time someone tells you to. So what did she figure out along the way? And what should CPG founders really look for in an investor? In this episode, Vanessa shares how she tuned out the noise, made the right calls for her company, her unexpected mini Shark Tank moment, and what's next for Tilden as the brand keeps growing. Topics Covered; Why most investors discourage founders from entering the beverage industry How to structure a friends-and-family round that sets you up for long-term success The simple way Tilden kept their cap table clean while bringing dozens of early believers on board What founders get wrong about feedback, and how to know when to trust your instincts instead Why chasing growth too fast can backfire (and how profitability became Tilden's secret advantage) How to prepare for a seed raise when investors keep moving the goalposts What it really takes to stand out in a crowded non-alcoholic category Guest Bio Vanessa Royle is a Harvard Business School grad and co-founder of Tilden, a ready-to-drink, premium non-alcoholic cocktail that redefines how we celebrate without alcohol. After quitting drinking in 2020, Vanessa was frustrated by the lack of sophisticated non-alcoholic options. So she set out to create her own premium ready-to-drink cocktail that's low sugar. She has broken through the initial push and is currently selling in hundreds of stores. To learn more, visit https://drinktilden.com/, follow @drinktilden on Instagram. Tilden Moschetti, an investment fund and syndication attorney, discussed Regulation D (Reg D) exemptions for raising capital. Reg D allows unlimited funds from accredited investors without advertising, with 98% of deals using it. Rule 506(b) allows non-accredited investors, while Rule 506(c) requires accredited investor verification. Accredited investors must earn $200K annually or have $1 million in net worth. Moschetti emphasized the importance of communication to mitigate risks and maintain investor trust. He noted that only 1-2% of cases lead to legal action if proper documentation is in place. His firm's turnaround time for Reg D filings is two weeks. https://www.moschettilaw.com/
J Darrin Gross I'd like to ask you Tilden Moschetti, what is the BIGGEST RISK? Tilden Moschetti I'd say that it's lack of communication. So and that's which is unfortunate because it's also the easiest to fix, right? So lack of communication will lead to failure to identify risks, whether it's, you know, the kind of risks we think about in in the insurance game, like, you know, fire and hazard risk, right? We know those things are there, but communicating with your property manager, communicating with your tenants, communicating with those kind of people, can all help identify, hey, yeah. And by the way, the sprinklers never work when we do the testing, or whatever those those things are that can help reduce that risk. But certainly in my world, things go bad when you don't talk to people. So if I could have the best deal in the world, send people their regular checks, but all I'm doing is sending them money, and if it just looks like a black hole, then investors are always going to be thinking, there's something wrong, you know, I don't I don't have any kind of transparency. I don't understand what's going on. Maybe this guy is ripping me off where it could be completely not true. But if I don't communicate, there's no way that they can ever know. And so I'd say, you. By far, almost every risk kind of boils down to that lack of communication, or at least communicating a lot, and really kind of understanding and listening and talking and kind of figuring out what's going on on any kind of asset is going to, at the very least, you know, reduce that risk, or help you identify it, or help mitigate it in some manner. https://www.moschettilaw.com/

Target Market Insights: Multifamily Real Estate Marketing Tips
Tilden Moschetti, Esq. is a syndication attorney that focuses exclusively on Regulation D offerings for real estate syndicators, business owners, entrepreneurs, and private equity funds. Tilden is a highly regarded expert in syndication as an attorney, a syndication coach, General Counsel to two private equity funds, and an active syndicator himself. He has been featured on NPR, NBC News, People Magazine, the National Law Journal, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Los Angeles Business Journal. A fundamental difference between Tilden and other attorneys is that Tilden came to the practice of syndication law as a syndicator of his own deals first. Tilden's practice as a real estate attorney changed gears when a partner showed him a deal and asked him if they could syndicate that deal together. Both investors and Tilden made a great return, so he kept syndicating. As his successes grew doing deals, 9 years ago he refocused his firm away from real estate law, to syndication law exclusively. In this episode, we talked to Tilden about syndications, its differences with joint ventures, common mistakes made by syndicators, vetting syndication attorneys, tips for new passive investors, syndication partners, and much more. Last year, when we had Chef Erling Wu-Bower on the pod, Maxwells hadn't opened yet — the concept was brimming with promise, but its mettle was yet untested. After a year of service, there's no denying how much the spot is thriving, and it's in large part to this week's guest — Josh Tilden, Chef Erling's front-of-house counterpart. Josh is an engineering major-turned hospitality maestro, whose methodical approach and attention to the finer points have made him an indispensable member of the Chicago dining community. He joins us to tell us about the inception of Maxwells, give us a tour of their inspiring space, talk Shaw's lore, and so much more.

His book, Bulldozed and Betrayed: Louisiana and the Stolen Elections of 1876, discusses the end of Reconstruction and the beginning of Jim Crow. Prior to the 2020 presidential election, historians considered the disputed 1876 contest — which pitted Republican Rutherford B. Hayes against Democrat Samuel J. Tilden — the most controversial in American history. Examining the work and conclusions of the Potter Committee, the congressional body tasked with investigating the vote, Adam Fairclough's Bulldozed and Betrayed: Louisiana and the Stolen Elections of 1876 sheds new light on the events surrounding the electoral crisis, especially those that occurred in Louisiana, a state singled out for voter intimidation and rampant fraud. The Potter Committee's inquiry led to embarrassment for Democrats, uncovering an array of bribes, forgeries, and even coded telegrams showing that the Tilden campaign had attempted to buy the presidency. Testimony also exposed the treachery of Hayes, who, once installed in the White House, permitted insurrectionary Democrats to overthrow the Republican government in Louisiana that had risen to power during the early days of Reconstruction. Brian Thompson chats with Lauren Tilden, host of the Making Good podcast and a marketing coach dedicated to helping creative small business owners who want to get out of their own way and start making an impact. After 8 years in corporate marketing, Lauren left her corporate career and began her winding journey to owning and supporting small businesses. She offers insights into defining one's ideal customer, creating goal-oriented marketing plans, and staying consistent with your message. Episode Highlights Mission-driven businesses are motivated by more than money. Growing up, Lauren felt she had to choose between making a living and doing meaningful work. But once she entered the small business world, she realized she could achieve both purpose and profit by being intentional and putting her values first. “I always sort of felt like I had to choose between making money ... and doing something I cared about," Lauren said. “It wasn't really until I got into the small business space that I realized you can do both at the same time.” Get clear on your marketing goals. Impactful marketing starts with a well-defined goal. Lauren advised small business owners to pinpoint what they need from their marketing efforts, such as increasing brand awareness, generating sales, or expanding a specific client base. Knowing your goal can help you create a campaign that helps you achieve it. “The first place that most people overlook is to get really, really clear on what your goal is,” Lauren said. “Marketing can do so many different things for us. If I didn't know my goal, I could end up spending my time all wrong.” Don't let a niche box you in. Instead of solely focusing on servicing a niche, Lauren encouraged entrepreneurs to understand their ideal customer's motivations, challenges, and values. By getting clear on these psychological details, business owners can create messaging that resonates with target customers on a deeper level. “What unites the people that buy from me and that are part of my community are their psychographics and what they care about,” Lauren said. “I know my ideal customer super well.” Design a marketing plan that meets your time requirements. Small business owners are busy, which is why it's especially important to realistically assess the time you have available to dedicate to marketing. Lauren advised entrepreneurs to create achievable marketing plans they can follow consistently, even if it means starting slow and with just one or two platforms. “When you set yourself up for a plan you can't actually stick to given your bandwidth, that is a recipe … for feeling bad about yourself and your ability to follow through,” Lauren said. “There is no upside to biting off more than you can chew, so create a marketing plan based on the time you have available each week.” Resources + Links Making Good Podcast with Lauren Tilden Lauren Tilden: Website, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn Brian Thompson Financial: Website, Newsletter, Podcast Follow Brian Thompson Online: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Forbes About Brian and the Mission Driven Business Podcast Brian Thompson, JD/CFP, is a tax attorney and Certified Financial Planner® who specializes in providing comprehensive financial planning to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs who run mission-driven businesses. The legal aspect of real estate is often in the background, but understanding the ins and outs of a deal can be crucial to success. On this episode of Zen and the Art of Real Estate Investing, Jonathan welcomes Tilden Moschetti. Tilden is a securities attorney, syndicator, syndication coach, and author of the bestselling book, “The Commercial Real Estate Legal Survival Guide Every Owner Needs.” As their conversation begins, Jonathan and Tilden delve into Tilden's decision to go to law school to better understand real estate and how he left litigation to work as a real estate syndicator and syndication attorney. You'll hear the setup of syndications, how to create a strategy, recognize a bad deal, and manage the risk of participating in syndications. Earlier this year, we were invited to join Jason Alexander and Peter Tilden on their podcast “Really, No Really” to promote our new book, ADHD Is Awesome. It was an amazing experience, and the whole time I was in awe of their friendship. Jason and Peter have been best friends for decades, and it's apparent that they admire and care about each other deeply. So we invited them on the show to talk about the secret to building strong male friendships. Penn and I fall into gender stereotypes when it comes to friendships. I go deep quick with fewer friends, and Penn has more surface-level friendships with a lot of people. We talk to Jason and Peter about how they met, Seinfeld stories, and advice anyone can use to build deeper connection. We also have a special mailbag from Charlie Berens, Myles Montplaisir, and Taylor Calmus… The Husbands of Target! Penn asked each of them what the secret to male friendship was during a recent visit.
