From LVMH's 10-year partnership with Formula 1 to brands like Alo Yoga, Adidas, and Louis Vuitton launching collections and initiatives surrounding the sport, F1 fashion is only growing more prominent.Sarah complements the conversation with Red Bull and shrimp cocktail, both of which were present during her weekend in Miami as she partied with the Red Bull Racing Team at the track after hours and ate some of the best shrimp cocktail of her life at one of the many buzzy Miami restaurants she hit up during her trip.Whether you're in need of outfit advice or in the midst of a style dilemma, the Shoe Therapy hotline is open for your anonymous texts and voicemails. It's the start of 2025, and what are we smelling? A lot of existential ennui, a lot of apocalyptic uncertainty, a lot of Baccarat Rouge dupes. If a chart of the fragrance brands with the most social media “vitality scores” (c/o WWD and Beauty Inc) is to be believed, it's a lot of the usual suspects. But if we were to go off of what we're seeing (or smelling) released, fragrance is getting more individualistic as it is spawning more virality through trends and category interest. What price point makes a fragrance “affordable?” What does “niche” even mean anymore? And, for that matter, what does the evolving definition of luxury (or quality) mean for fragrance? If you're like us and know very little about the economy but are attuned to its vibes nonetheless, may this be a mildly interesting episode for you! In episode 106, Erin shares how conversations have shaped their brand and how she turns those insights into empathetic action. It was after decades in the industry at big-name brands like Nike, Converse, and Nordstrom that Erin and her co-founder realized just how hard it is for plus-size women to find clothes that fit after an elevator conversation with a co-worker. That conversation sparked others that began Erin and Yi's entrepreneurial journey as the founders of See ROSE Go. Accomplished Chief Merchandising Officer with over 20 years of industry experience leading innovative strategies across fashion and retail, Erin's career began as a Nordstrom buyer. It was with Nordstrom that Erin discovered her passion for enhancing the customer experience, through empathy and an in-depth understanding of the customer's point of view. Nike Inc. recruited Erin to lead an Outlet division for Men's, Women's, and Kid's Apparel and Accessories. She was quickly promoted to direct Men's Apparel Merchandising for the Asia Pacific / China region. More recently, she drove significant growth in women's apparel, optimizing product lines and achieving exceptional GM% as the Global Women's Merchandising Director. In these roles, Erin remained consumer-centric, leading insight strategy and product creation to enhance the overall customer experience through superior products. In 2018, Erin co-founded See ROSE Go, a plus-size fashion brand with an ethos in intentional design, innovation, and mindful sustainability. Leading merchandising strategy, omni-channel distribution, and business development, Erin also successfully secured VC funding as a new founder with a newborn at home. In 2021, See ROSE Go received an honorable mention in Fast Company's Innovation by Design Awards for the proprietary tech/lifestyle fabric, CoolROSE™. In 2023 Erin received a U.S. Patent for this fabric. CoolROSE™ was invented as a direct response to issues women deal with but seldom speak about - body heat, sweat, and pilling from friction between body parts. Erin and See ROSE Go have been recognized by Forbes, CBS Money, and WWD for challenging industry norms. She was recently featured with her Co-Founder, Yi Zhou, in Authority Magazine as female disruptors shaking up their industry. It is the See ROSE Go mission to see women embrace their power and “go”. To Erin, style isn't just how a woman looks, it is how she moves and feels and the impact she makes while wearing See ROSE Go. For over 100 years Women's Wear Daily has been the bible for the fashion industry, and its archives include numerous hidden contributions of Black designers and models. Now that history has been gathered in a stunning new book, BLACK IN FASHION, by Tonya Blazio-Licorish and Tara Donaldson, showcasing the indelible influence of Black culture on a global scale. On Episode 5 of Rodeo Drive-The Podcast, host Lyn Winter spoke with the authors about the book and the revelations they found in the WWD archives. “Fashion has a flawed public history because it hasn't included all the voices,” says Blazio-Licorish, also a visual culture historian and editor with PMC Media Archives. “We were always there, and not just there in marginal roles, but in important roles, in roles that were shaping fashion,” adds Donaldson, most recently WWD's executive editor and Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Fairchild Media. Dating back as early as the Harlem Renaissance, the Black community was making its mark on clothing and style, from Black dolls for young Black children, early fashion shows, business associations, and fashionable scenes like at The Cotton Club. The authors single out early “influencers” such as Josephine Baker, who even had a hosiery color named in her honor, the dancer Katherine Dunham, who was all the rage in 1940s France, and then the Black models, including Pat Cleveland and Bethann Hardison, who shook up global fashion at the famed 1973 Battle of Versailles. The late André Leon Talley recalled this momentous event in conversation with the authors before his passing. “You could almost just reach out and touch the energy they gave in the air. It was like quiet thunder, and because everyone saw that and felt that at the battle, French designers – Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent – they started wanting black models.”Black fashion has been intertwined with politics – and BLACK IN FASHION explores how clothing reflected the moment:“During civil rights, that time was really about respectability politics,” explains Donaldson. “It was coming in your Sunday best, to assert dignity. It was a kind of a polite request for human rights. By the time you get to the 70s, the mood changes, the look changes…then the Black Panther movement, it's more powerful, it's more assertive…You have the leather jackets, you have the turtlenecks, you have the berets. And then we see that evolve even into the 2020s. And there's the branded T-shirts, Black Lives Matter.”Finally, the story is still unfolding. Black designers are still not getting the high level industry jobs they deserve, argue Blazio-Licorish and Donaldson, and are even ambivalent about being labeled as Black. So Blazio-Licorish says they finished on a question: “We purposefully left the conversation open to, who's next, who's now, and what do they have to say about where fashion is going to go?”Season 5 of Rodeo Drive – The Podcast is presented by the Rodeo Drive Committee with the support of The Hayman Family, Two Rodeo Drive, Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, and the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau.Season 5 Credits:Executive Producer and Host: Lyn WinterOn behalf of the Rodeo Drive Committee: Kay Monica RoseScriptwriter and Editorial Advisor: Frances AndertonEditor and Videographer: Hans FjellestadTheme music by Brian BanksProduction Assistant: Isabelle Alfonso.Listen, subscribe, rate and review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.Join us on Instagram @rodeodrive Hosted on Acast. In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Lisa Morales-Hellebo. This episode is all about the will and drive of a young Latina to rebel against cultural norms and prove to herself and the world that, by playing by her own rules, she can accomplish whatever she puts her mind to. Lisa grew up as member of the only brown family in an affluent neighborhood, facing relentless racism that put a chip on her shoulder and sparked an unyielding determination. Now, Lisa is using that drive to take on refashioning the $3 trillion end-to-end industrial value chain. After turning down millions from Silicon Valley investors who didn't understand her vision, she's leading a revolution to invest in brown women and overlooked innovators. Lisa has 28 years in tech, design and systems thinking, entrepreneurship, and community building, and has recently added VC to her list of titles as Founder & Co-Managing GP at REFASHIOND Ventures: the Industrial Transformation Fund — a NY-based venture fund that invests as the first institutional check in early-stage startups refashioning industrial value chains across Data & AI, Advanced Materials, Advanced Manufacturing, and Next Generation Logistics; defensible through economic moats. Lisa has always been obsessed with how things are made and pioneered mass-customization, personalization, and on-demand micromanufacturing for P&G in Silicon Valley in 1999 at a company called Reflect.com. Lisa is catalyzing the paradigm shift to localized demand chains as CEO and Founder of REFASHIOND OS (rOS), which is deploying a unified Data Layer & Control Tower across manufacturing value chains. She is also a founder of The Worldwide Supply Chain Federation, an organization that is changing how supply chain professionals learn about, collaborate, and adopt early-stage supply chain innovation around the world. Lisa is a Carnegie Mellon University alum with University Honors, Techstars alum, founded & built the New York Fashion Tech Lab, serves on the board of 3 other accelerators, has been featured in numerous publications along with 2 books, and has been the recipient of several awards; including Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine's Top Woman in Supply Chain 2022, Top 100 Women in Supply Chain 2020, 2021, 2022, & 2023; and WWD's Most Influential ESG Leaders 2023.

In episode 138 of the Glow Journal podcast, host Gemma Dimond talks to the co founder of Augustinus Bader, Professor Augustinus Bader. The Augustinus Bader brand turned over $7 million USD in 2018, the year it launched. Within 2 years that figure had grown to $70 million, and this year it's reported that sales will have topped $130 million. That is the power of Augustinus Bader, both the man and the brand, the latter having won over 120 beauty industry awards since launch, including being named The Greatest Skincare of All Time by WWD. Professor Bader, however, never intended to enter the beauty industry. Following over 3 decades of work in medicine and garnering global acclaim for his work with burns victims, it was in 2013 that he met French financier Charles Rosier who saw his work and began the two year process of convincing the Professor to start a skincare brand with him. The term “cult brand” gets thrown around a little loosely in beauty, but that truly is the status Augustinus Bader has reached. This is a man who said “yes” to developing skincare almost entirely so he could self-fund future medical innovations, but whose products have become so, so popular that he is now a frequent collaborator of Victoria Beckham and has grown the product line from 2 face creams to somewhere between 30 and 40 SKUs.In this conversation, Professor Bader shares how he took a hospital grade burn cream and made it into a shelf stable luxury beauty brand, how his collaborations with both Victoria Beckham and Sofia Coppola came to fruition, and what exactly his patented TCF8 technology can actually do for the skin. “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” Well, that is the embodiment of Imelda Marcos, the former First Lady of the Philippines, and Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France before the French Revolution. You probably know these women's stories, so you may not see it at first, but these women share a common narrative of luxury, influence, and eventual downfall. While they lived in different times and countries, their lives existed in a strangely coincidental parallel. Today on Found Objects, we will look at the lives and legacies of these powerful women in history and examine just how much their stories overlap. Blending raw emotion with Southern stomp, Cody Belew offers a unique point of view on faith and love – both of which he approaches with fearless honesty. Coming off PRIDE week, Cody and Patrick discuss the embodiment of community and the importance of always knowing your neighbors. Cody shares his experience growing up gay in the Church and how it has impacted his religious journey. He dives into the inspiration behind his music and the wisdom he's learned in not dimming your light for others. Visit https://www.CodyBelew.com/ to get tickets, find Cody's new releases and more! Cody's first full-length record I Did It For Love will release on September 20th - see more about his inspiration for the album below! His next single is titled "Long, Long Row" and will be out on July 19th! The most recent single, "Horseshoes & Hand Grenades," released in May. Cody made a splash at this year's CMT Awards. Attaching our release, which you'll also note links to all of his social accounts/artist profiles! Assembling a mix of candid originals and well-loved classics by artists who inspired him, Cody Belew released his self-titled debut EP in early 2022 via Visionary Media. That same year had Belew reimagining the Brooks & Dunn classic “Neon Moon '' with Grammy Award-winning producer, Dave Audé, which recently surpassed three million Spotify streams. Belew kicked off 2023 as a member of CMT's coveted “Listen Up” program, which counts Kacey Musgraves, Thomas Rhett, and Marren Morris among its alumni, and saw the release of his single “Charlene,” which chronicled his experienced religious trauma as a Southern Baptist within the LGBTQ+ community. His star is rapidly rising with the recent release of the title track “I Did It For Love'' from his debut album due out later this year. A long-time Nashville resident, Cody recently completed a yearlong, sold-out residency at the city's famed Lipstick Lounge and wowed crowds at the new hotspot The Eighth Room with his impassioned vocals, deft songwriting, and undeniable stage presence. Cody has been highlighted in WWD and Vanity Fair for his distinctive fashion sense and profiled by NBC and Billboard. Cody's Inspiration for I Did It For Love: “Until the day I moved away from home, pointing my truck toward Nashville with all my belongings in tow, getting to Music City had been my singular mission. Ten years in, and I found myself writing about home, and family ties, and what sacrifices it took to get here. I wrote this with arenas in mind. I have christened this sound ‘Southern Glam Rock' as I find myself embodying that intersection- those two truths. We would love to hear from you! Jordan Soderholm is co-founder and chief growth officer of Ranger Station, an American heritage fragrance brand founded in 2015 with husband Steve Soderholm, and founder of Nashville Candle + Supply, a private label and custom candle manufacturing company established in 2021. A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Jordan came to Nashville in 2009 to study marketing and fashion merchandising at Belmont University. During her sophomore year of studies, Jordan began a full-time position at ABLE, which was then a start-up fashion brand and social enterprise supporting women in Africa through the creation of leather handbags and accessories. She stayed with the company through graduation and for a decade, minus a two-year hiatus as an independent wardrobe stylist, working her way from intern to fashion director and helping to establish the global brand it is today. Along the way, Jordan was watching Steve dabble in candle making while home between gigs as a touring professional drummer. Her keen business sense and entrepreneurial spirit helped recognize the business potential in the hobby and she worked after hours to help Steve get the brand off the ground in 2015. In 2021, she left ABLE to work with Ranger Station full time and to take the brand to the next level. It was then that she also founded Nashville Candle + Supply, a boutique private label and custom candle manufacturing company with clients worldwide. Today, Ranger Station is growing rapidly but thoughtfully. Ranger Station products are available for purchase from retail partners across the United States, Canada and the UK, as well as their flagship store in Nashville's 12South neighborhood opened in July 2023. Ranger Station also unveiled its first artist collaboration in the summer of 2023 with Noah Kahan, the folk singer/songwriter from New England, to bring to life his third LP, “Stick Season” – a candle that sold out in a record 24 hours with over 1,000 people on the waitlist. Collaborations with ERNEST, The Band Camino, Lauren Akins and Thomas Rhett and NEEDTOBREATHE followed, with others in the works. The brand has been featured in Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Architectural Digest, Cowboys & Indians, Byrdie, WWD, Who What Wear, The Strategist, PEOPLE, Southern Living, Billboard and countless other publications. Aside from Ranger Station, Jordan chases around her two young children with Steve, and enjoys gardening, reading and styling through her Substack “You didn't ask.” and other endeavors. What do labour rights have to do with secondhand fashion? It turns out, a lot. In today's episode, we talk to Emily Stochl, host of the Pre-Loved Podcast on labour rights activism and how it informs the secondhand market and our secondhand shopping consumption habits. On this Flight of The Retail Pilot Ken speaks with LEGEND, Tommy Hilfiger, Principal Designer, Tommy Hilfiger Global.Uplifting and inspiring consumers since 1985, Tommy Hilfiger has pioneered one of the world's most recognized premium lifestyle brands. With Hilfiger's vision and leadership as Principal Designer, his eponymous brand celebrates the essence of classic American style with a modern twist. Tommy Hilfiger offers premium quality and value to consumers worldwide under the TOMMY HILFIGER and TOMMY JEANS lifestyles, with a breadth of collections including men's, women's and kids' sportswear, denim, accessories, and footwear.Hilfiger's career in fashion began when he was a high school student in 1969 — opening his first store, People's Place, in his hometown of Elmira, New York. A decade later, he moved to Manhattan to pursue a career in fashion design, before launching his namesake brand with a single menswear collection. Since then, global retail sales of TOMMY HILFIGER products have grown to reach approximately $9.1 billion in 2022, powered by more than 16,000 associates worldwide — present in 100 countries and more than 2,000 retail stores, including its largest global flagship store at tommy.com.Hilfiger has a longstanding passion for philanthropy and making the world a better place for future generations. Through the global TommyCares organization, the brand supports various international initiatives and charities like Save the Children, the World Wildlife Fund and Fashion Minority Alliance. Hilfiger currently sits on the Board of Next for Autism. Through the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Frontier Challenge and People's Place Program, the brand is also making strides in its ambitious vision to create fashion that Wastes Nothing and Welcomes All – which actively focuses on topics such as social and environmental sustainability, diversity, and inclusivity in fashion and beyond.Diverse achievements in business and fashion have earned Hilfiger numerous distinguished awards including the CFDA's prestigious Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, British GQ's Design Legend of the Year in 2020, BFC's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2021 and WWD's John B. Fairchild Honor for Lifetime Achievement in 2022. Hilfiger's life and career have been chronicled in his memoir, American Dreamer, published in November 2016 — reflecting his experiences in the fashion industry from the last 35-plus years. Recounting his early childhood and formative years, it explores the setbacks, triumphs, and sheer determination that drove him to build a multi-billion-dollar global brand.Key takeaways from this interview include:Tommy Hilfiger's Background: Tommy Hilfiger began his journey in retail and design at a young age, starting his own business at 18 years old by opening a retail store -People's Place - selling jeans in 1969. This venture eventually led him to designing and creating products for his stores, culminating in the establishment of his own brand.Innovative Store Concepts: Hilfiger's early stores, particularly People's Place, were not just retail outlets but cultural hubs influenced by music and fashion. They offered a variety of products, hosted band practices, and provided an immersive experience for customers, aligning with the youth culture of the time.Cultural Influences on Brand Identity: Hilfiger aimed to differentiate his brand from traditional preppy styles by infusing it with elements of music, particularly hip-hop, and embracing a more inclusive approach to fashion. This cultural fusion helped establish the personality of the Tommy Hilfiger brand.Disruptive Advertising Strategy: The Hangman ad campaign, conceived by advertising executive George Lois, was a bold and disruptive move that garnered attention for the brand. Despite initial criticism, the controversial campaign succeeded in sparking conversation and establishing Tommy Hilfiger as a distinctive player in the fashion industry.Strategic Partnerships and Growth: Strategic partnerships, such as those with Marjani International and later with Silas Chao and Lauren Stroll, played a crucial role in the brand's growth and expansion. These partnerships facilitated strategic decisions like expanding into Europe and launching successful product lines such as fragrances, contributing to the brand's success and eventual IPO.Archives and Relevance: Both Tommy Hilfiger and Karl Lagerfeld emphasized the importance of going back to fashion archives and making past designs relevant for today's market. This approach ensures a timeless appeal while staying fresh.Strategic Partnerships: The acquisition by Apex and subsequent sale to PVH provided strategic opportunities for Tommy Hilfiger's brand growth. Apex helped in repositioning the company, while PVH's ownership of other brands like Calvin Klein created synergies beneficial for both.Brand Positioning: The positioning of Tommy Hilfiger's brand differs between the US and Europe. Understanding regional customer preferences and pricing strategies is crucial for successful brand positioning.Design Process: Tommy Hilfiger's use of technology, such as 3D design, and the centralization of its design team in Europe contribute to a more efficient and precise design process. This enables faster response to market trends and ensures product quality.Marketing and Brand Communication: The brand utilizes a mix of influencer collaborations, celebrity endorsements, and unique marketing campaigns to amplify its brand message. Embracing digital technologies like augmented reality and exploring AI's potential are also part of the brand's forward-thinking approach to marketing.
