Coming up on this episode of Flirtations, I'm thrilled to kickoff a transformative episode with celebrity coach Whitney Uland about how you can harness the power of celebrity energy to become the ultimate attractor in your dating life! We'll get into what celebrity energy really is, how heart-brain coherence can supercharge your authenticity, and why overcoming the fear of being perceived - of being seen for who you are - is the key to standing out in the dating world.  Whitney breaks down the three main blocks that hold us back from tapping into this energy and shares how you can tap more deeply into your own celebrity energy right now. We'll also explore how developing an abundance mindset helps you see possibilities even when they're not immediately clear, why finding fulfillment in life ensures that dating remains a part of your journey—and not your entire story, and why its ok to want more.  Plus, you'll hear a personal story of self-love and belief from the Flirt Coach himself, and how I've used celebrity energy to help get me here today. So, if you're ready to tap into your celebrity energy and become irresistible in your dating life, this episode is for you! Let's do this, Flirties! In 2021 Mary Neely and Kareem Rahma met at a Brooklyn comedy show. A week later they found themselves crammed at a downtown restaurant, elbows tucked and leaning forward, deep in discussion about an age-old argument: are men only nice to women who they want to have sex with? A settlement was never reached. Not long after, Kareem posted a still of Mathieu Kassovitz' LA HAINE to his Instagram with the words, “I'm quitting comedy until someone casts me in a dramatic role.” Mary responded, “I'll cast you.” The goal was set: write a joint personal essay, conversing about sensitive topics, and transcribing everything into the structure of a film that would be feasible to produce on a microbudget. Kareem Rahma is a three-time Webby-nominated writer, producer, comedian, and musician. He's also the creator and host of two hit digital series: KEEP THE METER RUNNING and SUBWAYTAKES, which have both amassed 100s of millions of views on TikTok and Instagram. Mary Neely is an actor, writer, and director. She directed and edited the short film PINK TRAILER, which premiered at SXSW, played opening night of Palm Springs ShortFest and was featured in i-D, Paper Magazine, and Refinery29 before being selected by the Milwaukee Film Institute to screen before Olivia Wilde's BOOKSMART in theaters. In this interview, we talk about the role of short form content in their careers, its impact on their work, and the advantages of a DIY approach, the challenges and rewards of self-producing films, the importance of constraints and much more. Remember when Kim Kardashian invented butts? Paper Magazine sure would like us to. When they released their scintillating cover issue of Kim K in a sequinned dress, balancing a champagne glass on her formidable silicone buttocks, Paper Mag declared: “Break the Internet Kim Kardashian” And break it she did. In this episode, Hannah and Maia trace Kim Kardashian's transformation from trashy reality star to fashionista de jour. Since the Paper cover, and with the help of Kanye West, Kim's body has become the subject of a twisted performance art. But it's also generated controversy - creating unhealthy trends, grifting from the natural features of Black women, and now disappearing into what we everyone has deemed a “skinny renaissance”. Digression includes: Maia getting riled up about Timothée and Kylie's fabled romantic union.  Support the Patreon and get juicy bonus content!: https://www.patreon.com/rehashpodcast Intro and outro song by our talent friend Ian Mills: https://linktr.ee/ianmillsmusic SOURCES Joe Zee, “In Defense of Kim Kardashian and the Editors of Paper Magazine and Why This Cover Makes Sense” (12/11/14), Yahoo Jake Hall, “exploring the complicated relationship between jean-paul goude and grace jones”, (21/04/16) i-D David Hershkovits, “How Kim KArdashian broke the Internet with her butt” (17/12/14), The Guardian Blue Telusma “Kim Kardashian doesn't realize she's the butt of an old racial joke” (12/11/14), the grio Justin Parkinson, “The Significance of Sarah Baartman” (07/01/16), BBC Janell Hobson, “Remnants of Venus: Signifying Black Beauty and Sexuality” (2018), Women's studies Quarterly, The Feminist Press Nolan Feeney, “Anna Wintour Implies Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are not ‘Deeply Tasteful'”. We had the pleasure of interviewing Wowashwow over Zoom video!Rising hip-hop artist and female powerhouse, Wowashwow, has released her sophomore album, The Algorithm. This body of work is a testament to Wowashwow's ability to blend her punk rock heritage, eccentric indie hip-hop vibes, freestyle rap finesse, and a fearless approach to "obliterating the pop formula." The result is a genre-fluid experience that defies categorization. Produced by Sam J Garfield, The Algorithm challenges the premeditated and quantified nature of algorithms that govern online society and social media-crazed humankind, and it seeks to shatter the rules and bring back the magic and essence of art, music, and creativity. With the visual surrealism of Missy Elliot, the untamable energy of Tina Turner meets Mick Jagger, and the genre-fluidity reminiscent of Radiohead; our South Jersey/Philly raised visionary is presenting a body of work so profoundly groundbreaking, that it is fragmenting the current set of rules and obliterating the mundane nature of it all. The Algorithm loosely tells the story of a character from another dimension visiting planet Earth, providing a unique perspective on their experience navigating between worlds. It's a manifesto of authenticity and empathy, reminding us that we are all aliens in a world controlled by the algorithm. The question arises: Who will be the first to crack the code?MORE INFO: At age six, Wowashwow was writing her first original songs which quickly led to an early career as the lead guitarist and singer of punk rock band, “Rise from Ashes.” This newfound fame evolved into a tour where she opened for The Ramones' drummer, Marky Ramone, and recorded her first album under the direction of the iconic rock legend, Steve Albini. At age 18, Wowashwow moved to NYC and discovered the underground hip hop and ballroom scene, heavily influencing her approach to songwriting, stage performance and overall lifestyle. Now hailing from Los Angeles, she's played over 15 shows in two years, opened for Snoop Dog and Travis Barker, appeared at the Soul Train Awards 2022, charted #115 on the Hot300 List and has been featured in Earmilk, iHeart Radio's Arena Podcast, and has been on regular radio rotation on 101.5 FM (Los Angeles). On top of releasing her own music, Wowashwow hopped onto Love Bailey's track “Hornatia” late last year, with PAPER Magazine referring to her vocals as “commanding” and “hypnotic.” Following its release, “Hornatia” was an official selection short for the Cannes Film Festival. We had the pleasure of interviewing Pocket over Zoom video! After much fanfare for his recent singles, the rising star of the electronic scene, Edinburgh-raised Pocket, recently released his debut Helix Records EP, ‘Love DIsc.'The EP features the single, “Evergreen (ft. kloe),” which is available to stream now. The track is built around a joyful and radiant house instrumental that balances perfectly with kloe's heartfelt lyrics and stunning vocal delivery.“‘Evergreen' was a song that I started with the idea that its simplicity is its strength. Lots of texture and all based around the piano part. KLOE and I had a chat about our lives and everything we were experiencing, and the song became a love letter to being with someone long distance. The unapologetic lyrics and feel is to me what makes it such a standout. In the climate of house music and dance music in the UK, it's very easy to hold yourself back from making something sweet and warm with the fear of not fitting the mold, and I'm happy with taking the chance to make that happen,” Pocket says.Diversity is the name of the game when it comes to Pocket's approach to music and the EP offers a kaleidoscope of ranges and styles. Emblematic of Pocket's fresh sound, “U (ft. BRONZE AVERY)” is the perfect combination of pop, house, and UK garage. Pocket's light and airy instrumental melds perfectly with BRONZE AVERY's powerful-yet-soothing vocals. Using curiously satisfying vocal chops, and minimal but intricate production, ‘Crying at Supermac's' shows off a sound reminiscent of classic Burial. Pocket's unique style pierces through the saturated scene, showcasing a unique and excitable new project for fans. It's been an incredible start to Pocket's career - he was named one of the top 25 artists to watch in 2022 by Mixmag (his song 'Heartbreak Engineering' was also named amongst ‘Best Tracks of the Year April 2022'); received playlist support from Flume, DJ Seinfeld, and Salute, released a remix for Charli XCX and performed alongside Porter Robinson and Fred Again and has been included in tastemaker playlists POLLEN and Altar. We had the pleasure of interviewing Mia Gladstone over Zoom video! Hailing from South Orange, New Jersey, MIA GLADSTONE thrives in the music and digital world as an advocate for feminism, environmentalism, and veganism. Creating an alter ego as a “world renowned creator of The Expert's Guide to Positive Affirmations,” Mia seeks to affirm listeners that they are in a safe space when they listen to her music – you may even catch her doing a few positive affirmations during her shows and interviews, like this one! Additionally, she is all about making feel-good music that challenges conventional thinking. On her latest single “TALKING ONLINE” ft. Belis, she reflects on her negative-yet-relatable experiences on social media, singing: “You been talkin' online, pipe down/ Only clutter your mind with doubt/I see my baby shining, but you're too busy pryin.” If you pause throughout the video you'll see screenshots of actual DMs she's received, you may be scared to take a trip into your message requests! She arrived on the scene with her 2019 GROW EP, earning praise from Office Magazine, PAPER Magazine, Lyrical Lemonade, and the BBC, who invited her to be a guest on their Music Life podcast. Additionally, her sophomore project CYCLE/S earned her a spot on Okayplayer's 21 Breakout Artists to Watch for in 2021. Mia is preparing for an internet takeover with her first-ever fully self-produced project, LOOPY. With LOOPY, she plans to spread knowledge and create more visibility for femme and non-binary producers. Additionally, she is creating a digital community of femme-identifying producers with the @producerswhoproduce Instagram page, where she pushes educational initiatives and production tutorials. The only thing more chill and admirable than Mia's musicality is her adorably humble personality -- check out how hype she gets to discover that Howard Stern roasted her music lol! Ultimately, MIA GLADSTONE is straight up cool and is using her powers for good. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing grandma over Zoom video.Following his April single “I Met God Online,” genre-bending alternative artist grandma releases “Blue Atlanta,” a dreamy ode to darkness and disengagement. grandma also announces his next EP, “Angelhood” today, which is set for a July 15th release.“Blue Atlanta is about the imaginative avenues I created at a time of extreme loss. When I began to hate my environment and my inner world grew dull all I could do was detach. The video is about unfolding and breaking away from the life I created that caused me so much pain. Whether it was friends dying to addiction or suicide I just felt the light went dimmer and dimmer,” says grandma of the track. “I Met God Online,” released last month, chronicles the nonlinear nature of love in the digital age—failed talking stages, psychosexual pining, miscommunication and vibe shifts— intertwined with a fascinating strain of theism. ”I Met God Online” is about people's fascination with internet esotericism,” says grandma. “A meditation on how someone's life and internet presence can amorphously become someone else's religion, obsession, or gospel.”Hailed by Highsnobiety for “crafting music that pushes the notion of genre experimentation and fusion to unimaginably innovative heights,” grandma – a.k.a. multi-instrumentalist/producer Liam Hall – has earned applause for his fascinating amalgam of bedroom hip-hop, raw funk, alternative R&B, and lo-fi pop, showcased on 2019's debut mixtape, Even If We Don't Get It Together. The project – which features such groundbreaking tracks as “Stomp and Grind (Feat. Rico Nasty),” “Downtown Life,” and “Shallow Water,” – was followed in 2020 by an extensive string of chameleonic singles, including “Everybody's On Their Phone,” which was featured on SiriusXM Alt Nation's Advanced Placement and described by PAPER Magazine as a “reassuring and observant new song”, and “Virtually Anything,” an acclaimed collaboration with anti-pop star sophie meiers which earned acclaim from Nuance Magazine as “an extremely enticing track that is a must listen for any alternative/R&B fans.”Known throughout Atlanta's pop and hip-hop scenes for his skills as a singer, songwriter, musician, producer, programmer, arranger, and visual artist, grandma has received a wide range of media attention, with Pigeons & Planes naming him “Best New Artist of the Month” and A1234 declaring, “grandma, I have no doubt, will soon be the soundtrack to many people's adolescence as his genre-defying talent speaks to a whole new generation of music lovers.” The preternaturally talented polymath maintained a steady flow of tracks through 2020, including “Chills,” “Bested,” and “Growing Up Is Strange”.Now grandma is poised to push his distinctive brand of personal pop ever higher, reaching heavenward with a one-of-a-kind sound and vision unlike any other.
