Today is another episode of the Something For the Weekend broadcast that I do with André, Easy, Big T, and Roxanne. It was a long week working in Sacramento and I had delayed flights coming home that caused me to have to sleep in an airport. I did not have time to do a show alone this week. The good news is that this was a good ep of SFTW that is close to the spirit of B3F. Enjoy! I'm drinking a simple Irish coffee. Just coffee and Jameson. Scripture of the Day: Acts 16:25“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” When Is Your Midnight? As we started to share yesterday, Paul and Silas had been beaten and thrust into the inner prison with their feet put in stocks, all for preaching the Gospel. But instead of griping and complaining, they lifted their voices together in united prayer and praises to Jesus and to God. Amen! What about you? Would you be praying and praising in those circumstances? When it looked in the natural like your life could be over. If not physically, at least freedom wise? But look at what happened. As Paul and Silas prayed, in united prayer, lifting their voices so loud all the other prisoners could hear them, God brought a mighty deliverance. Verse 26 says an earthquake shook the very foundations of the prison and all of the prison doors were opened, physically popped off the hinges. But that was not all, every single shackle has been loosed! That should not have happened because of an earthquake! But it did! Amen! As I related yesterday, I found it interesting that there is no historical references of an earthquake destroying anything in that area at that time. None. Not in the Bible and, as far as I have been able to determine, nothing historically either. But, praise God, that jailhouse was shaken! Amen! When the prisoners realized what had happened, you would have thought they would have made a run for the hills as quick as possible. Some had probably been their quite a while and probably had lost all hope of ever being free. Here was their chance. That is what the jailer thought, too. That's why he was going to kill himself. If he allowed the prisoners to escape, it was on him to suffer their punishment. But Paul told him to stop because NOBODY had ran away. NONE! Not one person left the prison! Why? Because every prisoner in their knew it was from God. They felt the presence of the Holy Spirit and they witnessed the Power of God this Silas and Paul had been talking about. They did not want to leave that presence! Amen! They wanted MORE! Glory to God! The Jailer knew he had witnessed a miracle. The prisoners knew, too. The results was the entire family of the jailer was saved that very night. And the Philippian church was formed that night, too. With the jailer as the pastor of those inmates. Glory to God. That is what happens when you cry out to God in prayer and praise in YOUR midnight hour! Amen! There are a lot of people today just sitting around doing nothing…waiting on God to do something. Something FOR them. They will say, “Well, if God wants me to get out of this mess, He will just have to do it, I guess…” But that is not true, not in any sense of the Word. Amen. If it was true, why did Paul and Silas have to sing, out loud? Why didn't they just say, “Well, Silas, I guess this is where the Lord wants us at right now. That's why this happened. So let's just accept our fate and see what else the Lord can do…” No, they prayed in one accord and sang praises to God! And notice their situation did not change UNTIL they prayed and sang praises to God! Amen! Did you get that! As a result, God moved! Glory to God! We need that kind of praying going on today. We need to start shaking things up in this nation and around the world. It is time for the TRUE, born again Christians to take their rightful place, publicly and visible for all to see and start praying and singing praises to God! Amen! You see, a shaking like that would cause some people to come to church! To get born again! And that same shaking will cause some who are not truly committed to the Word to leave the church. Those who don't want to pray and be shaken, well, they won't be there long. They are not Spiritually mature enough to stand the shaking, let alone benefit from it. But that's ok. Because...

Bringing back one of the most pivotal points in business- saying goodbye to Urban 20 Something… For those of you who have been with me since the beginning, you may be familiar with the evolution of my brand. What once was supposed to be my anonymous blog about a New Yorker in her 20’s trying to find her place has now turned in to my six figure business that allows me to pursue my passion for coaching entrepreneurs every single day. Of course, my business holds many of the same core values that established the foundation for Urban 20 Something, but my current brand, Leah Gervais, casts a new mold for so much more! Tune in to hear: The story behind the name Urban 20 Something from when I was only 23. The "tipping point" that showed us it was time to change the name. The true identity and sole mission of my business today and how our new brand allows us to share that.

Ellis Clarence Taylor Ellis Taylor son of Kansas City great Marva Whitney Aka James Brown’s Soul Sister Number 1 and Ellis Taylor Sr. who owned Forte Records (one of the larger labels in Kansas City) was born in Kansas City Missouri. His performing career started as early as 12 years old performing and recording at local churches as a drummer and soloist. After spending time at a local college, he decided to a pursue a music career and relocated to Los Angeles. He was quickly discovered by Randy Jackson who at the time worked at Sony. Together Randy and Ellis worked on several Projects one being the Grammy nominated Men In Black Soundtrack. Ellis helped pen and sing Erotik City as a members of Emoja. Emoja had been slated to drop simultaneously with the mirroring Ladies group Destiny’s Child who went on to enjoy great success as well as other first-time artist Alicia Keys. Unfortunately, legal battles halted their debut. For several years after this disappointing reality Ellis ventured between musical genres lending his vocals to Better Dayz (Tupac), writing and performing for Jazz artist Drew Simpson on Noteworthy, and lending his vocals to several Gospel music projects. Ellis then joined the Hip Hop Label Look Alive/Interscope Records and worked on a solo project and toured heavily with 4th Avenue Jones, opening and touring with such acts as Something For the People, James Brown, Sheryl Crow, The Black Eyed Peas and The Roots just to name a few. Ellis competed on Star Search but after being eliminated as a Simi finalist Ellis was asked by Wayne Brady to come on his Daytime television show to perform a song and quick skit. It was at this time Ellis realized his passion for acting. Under the tutelage of Constance St. John and Eric Smith Gunn he began honing his craft as an actor appearing in several plays, documentaries and currently the soon to be released Mini Series The Hijab. Ellis currently releases music periodically just for the joy of creating, but the catalog of music left by his parents has been featured on artists such as Jay Z, Rick Ross, movies by Tom Hanks and James Franco just to name a few.
All right folks, time to gather round the table (get it?) and listen as we rant and rave about the insane roller-coaster that is Avalon High. It’s a film that has a lot going for it: a good cast, a solid source material, and loads of intrigue. However, the thing that truly makes it worth talking about is how it somehow manages to completely ruin all of it.Lucas gets way too hot on this topic and almost loses his voice. Emma is underwhelmed by the romantic lead and makes a YouTube video essay.Talking Points: This Looks Expensive, Avalon High Stans, The Kim Possible Trailer, Allie “New Girl” Pennington, The Worst Professors, Mysterious Boxes, Definitely Not Maryland, So Many Running Montages, DCOM Ezra Miller, All Practices Happening Simultaneously, The Order of the Bear, If You Are Young With a Cane You Are Evil, FRIEND BURGERS, Reincarnation Relocation, Vampires???, Marco’s Bad Boy Antics, Molly Quinn Deserves an Oscar, Locker Acting, Meteor Shower + Eclipse = Arthur, Everyone Knows, The Football Team Breaks Bad So Fast, Something For the Ladies, Buckle Your Seatbelts, Mysterious Green Lighting, Anticlimactic Relationship Resolution, Missed Theatre Opportunities, The Dumbest Plot Twist, The Backup QB Crushes It, All of Our Money Is Tied Up in Horses
