Esperanza and Irwin delve into the Prohibition Era, 1920 to 1933. There apparently were lots of hands in the till, making money from Prohibition on Long Island, or Liquor Island, as one prominent minister was quoted as saying. Carl Fisher, who's Island Club on Montauk's Star Island was the most glamorous speakeasy of its time, with patrons like Ernest Hemingway and NYC Mayor Jimmy Walker. Arthur Benson, where $250,000 worth of alcohol, a staggering amount in 1925, was confiscated from his 4000 acre estate. But it was the fishermen and baymen involved as well, eluding not just the authorities like the Coast Guard, but pirates and mobsters, like Al Capone, while transporting alcohol throughout Long Island and into NYC. With further involvement from Temperance Societies in the early 19th century, to the KKK's support of prohibition in an effort to appear patriotic, we were amazed at all the story lines that converge in this podcast. Listening is Believing.
In Diddy's second attempt to secure bail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, his legal team proposed a $50 million package. This included using his mansion on Star Island as collateral and agreeing to home detention with GPS monitoring. His lawyers also suggested restrictions on visitors, limiting them to family and non-co-conspirators. Despite these conditions, the judge denied the request, citing concerns that Diddy remains a danger to the community and a potential flight risk.Meanwhile, Diddy and his team is gearing up for their third attempt at bail after bringing on two new lawyers to help bolster the defense. In August 2024, Sean "Diddy" Combs paid off the $18.8 million mortgage on his $48.5 million mansion located on Miami's Star Island, anticipating his imminent arrest on charges related to sex trafficking, racketeering, and illegal prostitution. Diddy's legal team made this move in preparation for his bail hearing, aiming to use the mansion as part of a proposed $50 million bond package. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, described the decision as a "terrible business decision," done to build trust and demonstrate Diddy's commitment to facing the legal proceedings.Despite these efforts, including offering six passports as further evidence that Diddy wasn't a flight risk, the judge denied his bail request, citing concerns about potential interference with the ongoing investigation or the possibility of him fleeing the country. Sean "Diddy" Combs, the hip-hop mogul who built a billion-dollar empire, is currently facing serious legal challenges that threaten his vast fortune. As of June 2025, Combs is in the midst of a trial where prosecutors have taken aggressive action against his assets under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.Last month, on May 16, 2025, reports emerged that Combs could lose most of his estimated $400 million fortune if found guilty of all charges. The Justice Department is pursuing forfeiture action, arguing that Combs used his business enterprises to facilitate and cover up alleged criminal activities. In response, Combs has hired Stefan Cassella, former deputy chief of the Justice Department's Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section, to fight these forfeiture attempts. Cassella has stated that the government is taking an "aggressive approach" in seizing as many of Combs's assets as possible.Among the assets at risk are Combs's $48 million Miami Beach home on Star Island, which was raided last year, and his $25 million Gulfstream Aerospace G550 private jet, which he has reportedly been renting out while awaiting trial.Prior to these legal troubles, Combs had built an impressive business portfolio. His partnership with Diageo for Ciroc vodka and DeLeon tequila had been particularly lucrative, reportedly generating nearly $1 billion in revenue since 2007. However, his Combs Global empire, which includes ventures in fashion, cannabis, and digital marketplaces, now faces an uncertain future. In 2021, Combs bought back his Sean John clothing brand for $7.5 million but hasn't developed it significantly since. Last year, he attempted to enter the cannabis industry with a venture valued at up to $185 million that would have created the country's largest Black-owned and licensed cannabis company.Throughout this legal battle, Combs has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges. The outcome of this trial will likely determine whether the man who rose from Harlem to become a symbol of Black entrepreneurship will retain the empire he spent decades building.

A man says he was drugged, paraded around a Miami mansion in a penis mask, and humiliated in front of some of the most famous names in the world—including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and LeBron James. That's not the setup for some dark comedy sketch; that's what's alleged in a federal lawsuit filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs. The accuser, Joseph Manzaro, claims the incident happened in April 2015 during a birthday party for Christian “King” Combs, held at a home on Miami's exclusive Star Island. That home, according to the lawsuit, was owned by none other than Gloria and Emilio Estefan. Manzaro alleges he was drugged before arriving and that once at the party, Gloria Estefan herself noticed him in a concerning physical state. She reportedly asked for someone to call an ambulance—but then, her husband Emilio allegedly shut it down and ushered her away. That alone would be bizarre. But what comes next is what's made this lawsuit a media lightning rod. Manzaro says he was moved—through an underground tunnel—to Diddy's nearby mansion by former adult film actress Adria English, who is also named in the suit. At some point, Manzaro claims he regained partial consciousness and found himself being paraded around, half-naked, wearing a black leather mask with a rubber dam and a protruding locking sex device strapped to his face. And then—he says—he encountered Beyoncé and Jay-Z. According to the complaint, Beyoncé appeared confused and asked why a half-naked man with a sex toy strapped to his face was in front of her. Someone else, allegedly affiliated with the party, told her it was a "punishment" ordered by Diddy: “Diddy wants him to see what we do to snitches.” The story doesn't end there. Manzaro claims that Diddy explicitly ordered his degradation in front of party guests. He says he was stripped, put in a thong, and made to wear the leather mask as part of what the lawsuit described as a "freak-off"—an alleged term for sexually exploitative gatherings. He was, according to the complaint, subjected to non-consensual and degrading acts. At one point, Manzaro says he came across high-end jeweler Jacob Arabo and expressed confusion. Emilio Estefan allegedly instructed men nearby to move Manzaro away from Arabo quickly. Later, Gloria Estefan again attempted to intervene and request medical assistance, but was allegedly silenced once more by Emilio. In another moment cited in the complaint, Manzaro says he encountered LeBron James in a hallway. James allegedly said, “Y'all better do something about that,” though he isn't accused of any misconduct and wasn't named a defendant. The fallout? Diddy's legal team called the claims “depraved” and “nonsense,” saying that no reasonable person could believe the complaint. They emphasized that Combs looks forward to his day in court, where he says these lies will be exposed. The Estefans, for their part, issued a statement denying everything. They said the Star Island property wasn't even used for parties between 2012 and 2019 and that they have documentation to back that up. They also emphasized that the property in question wasn't their primary residence—it was simply a house they owned for family use. Jay-Z's lawyer, Alex Spiro, went on record to say his client wasn't even in Florida at the time. He pointed to publicly available evidence that Jay-Z was elsewhere, calling the allegation “more nonsense” and a blow to the integrity of the justice system. Beyoncé and LeBron James haven't commented. Neither has Adria English, at least not yet. It's worth noting that while Combs has been sued by multiple individuals for alleged sexual misconduct, he has denied the allegations across the board. He has pleaded not guilty to separate federal sex crime charges and is scheduled to stand trial in May. #DiddyLawsuit #CelebrityAllegations #StarIslandIncident #SexualAssaultClaims Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, described the decision as a "terrible business decision," done to build trust and demonstrate Diddy's commitment to facing the legal proceedings.Despite these efforts, including offering six passports as further evidence that Diddy wasn't a flight risk, the judge denied his bail request, citing concerns about potential interference with the ongoing investigation or the possibility of him fleeing the country. Diddy was subsequently remanded into custody to await trial.Bonus:Freddy P, a former member of Da Band, has made serious allegations against Sean "Diddy" Combs, claiming that Diddy threatened his life during their time working together. In recent interviews, Freddy P described a heated exchange where Diddy allegedly threatened to "buy every house on [Freddy's] block," cut off the power, and have him killed if he didn't comply with Diddy's demands. This incident, according to Freddy, led to his decision to leave the group and distance himself from Diddy altogether.Freddy also spoke about the mental toll these experiences had on him, revealing that Diddy's behavior contributed to his severe depression, and he even contemplated suicide. Sean "Diddy" Combs proposed a $50 million bail package in an attempt to secure his release from federal custody while awaiting trial on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. His legal team offered a combination of assets as collateral, including his $48 million mansion on Miami's Star Island and an additional $2 million covered by his mother's home.Combs was also willing to submit to GPS monitoring, travel restrictions limited to Florida, New York, and New Jersey, and the surrender of his passport, along with those of his mother and children. His defense argued that these conditions, combined with home detention, would ensure he posed no flight risk. Freddy further alleged that Diddy exploited people in vulnerable situations, preying on those who needed financial help(commercial at 8:21)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Diddy paid off $19M Miami mortgage before arrest (nypost.com)Freddy P Alleges Diddy Sexually Assaulted Multiple Men (yahoo.com)

Sermons from First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Arlington Massachusetts
Worship service given August 25, 2024 Prayer by Ruben Hopwood, Worship Leader https://firstparish.info/ First Parish A liberal religious community, welcoming to all First gathered 1739 How does reflecting on our belief in the interdependent web of life help us as Unitarian Universalists to attend to Disability Justice in our own congregation? Drawing on writings by Julia Watts Belser and Reverend Monica Coleman, this sermon reflects on the connection between our UU principles and the principles of Disability Justice as well as the connections between members of our faith community. During the summer our worship is led each week by a member of our congregation. Megan (she/her) is a rising senior at Mount Holyoke College. She is a Psychology & Education major and a Music minor. Her family first brought her to First Parish when she was in elementary school, and she still does her best to attend services when she's home from college! She is still actively involved in other UU spaces, co-leading her campus faith group and working on Star Island in the summers. She enjoys swimming in the ocean, discussing plays, and writing poetry when inspiration strikes. Offering and Giving First The Giving First program donates 50% of the non-pledge offering each month to a charitable organization that we feel is consistent with Unitarian Universalist principles. The program began in November 2009, and First Parish has donated over $200,000 to more than 70 organizations. For June, July and August 2024, the Giving First recipients are the ArCs Cluster, a local refugee support group, and the Immigrant Learning Center, a not-for-profit organization in Malden, MA. The remaining half of your offering supports the life and work of this Parish. To donate using your smartphone, you may text “fpuu offering” to 73256. Then follow the directions in the texts you receive.
