Leon Edwards successfully defended his title in the main event with a shutout performance over Colby Covington. Following the loss in his third attempt at becoming undisputed champion, where does Covington go from here? Does he have what it takes to earn his way back for another title shot or has he already reached his ceiling in the UFC? With Edwards winning, is Belal Muhammad next in line or did Shavkat Rakhmonov beating Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson change the pecking order at welterweight? UFC 296 featured two title fights in Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington and Alexandre Pantoja vs. Brandon Royval as well as the return of Shavkat Rakhmonov. We will discuss all this on today's episode. In the main event of UFC 296, Leon Edwards cruised to a decision over perennial number 2 Colby Covington. We will talk about why Leon Edwards was so effective over Colby Covington including a lot of his anti-wrestling techniques. As good as Edwards looked, I will pick at some gripes I had near the end of the fight. All in all, Leon Edwards dominated his second title defense and Colby Covington had nothing for him. In the co-main event, Alexandre Pantoja defeated Brandon Royval. That fight was an entertaining five rounder with Pantoja defending his newly captured flyweight title. Brandon Royval did have a good showing and proved that he's a force to be reckoned with. Shavkat Rakhmonov cometh. The Kazakh fighter took on Stephen Wonderboy Thompson at UFC 296 and dominated. We will discuss Shavkat Rakhmonov's gameplanning and why he had to grapple with Wonderboy. Paddy Pimblett defeated Tony Ferguson and that was depressing. Josh Emmett murdered Bryce Mitchell. Cody Garbrandt won his second straight. All that and more on this episode! Enjoy.

Could this be his last chance at winning the welterweight title? Shavkat Rakhmonov takes on Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and we'll discuss where we feel like Rakhmonov fits in this division, especially if he gets a win at UFC 296. On the latest episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer, Matt Brown and Damon Martin react to the latest news in MMA including Conor McGregor's outburst aimed at Anthony Smith over his current status with USADA. As of now, McGregor has been completely removed from the UFC's anti-doping program, which means he'll need to undergo six months of testing before he's allowed to return again. That earned him some criticism from Smith but in response McGregor lashed out at the one-time UFC title challenger. But did Smith get it right where McGregor is concerned or is the Irish superstar actually doing anything wrong by dropping out of the testing pool while he's not fighting? Brown will give his take after he personally dropped out of the USADA testing pool himself a few years ago before making his return to action. Also on the show, we'll discuss Kayla Harrison's shocking loss to Larissa Pacheco and where she goes from here with two fights remaining on her current contract with the PFL. Did Harrison's value plummet with that loss or does she remain a top target for free agency once she able to test the market again? Plus, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson joins the show to preview his upcoming fight against Kevin Holland and his desire to remind the world that he's still one of the best welterweights in the sport despite losing his last two fights. Also don't miss Brown telling a story about his interaction with “Wonderboy” when they road in an ambulance together after their fight in 2012.
