It's Matt Serra's 51st birthday — and what better way to celebrate than with a few surprise guests? Matt correctly guesses Din Thomas as part one of his birthday surprise — but it's the unexpected call from bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili that really makes his day. Merab joins ahead of his highly anticipated rematch against Sean O'Malley at UFC 316 in Newark. Din sticks around to co-host with Jim and Matt, as the guys share plenty of laughs before welcoming welterweight Ramiz Brahimaj. Fresh off a 1st-round submission win, Brahimaj opens up about his mindset heading into the fight and what's next for him in the division. Later, the crew breaks down the highlights from last weekend's card and weighs in on how Erin Blanchfield's scratched bout with Maycee Barber could affect the title picture for Valentina Shevchenko.

Keith and Ben preview UFC 316 with detailed predictions and picks for all 13 fights. With a stacked card topped by two bantamweight title bouts, there wasn't as much side talk as usual, but the theme of unfair standards and double standards in MMA kept coming up. Those included: the distinction between a fighter's personal and professional appeal, the extra burden placed on stars from other promotions making their UFC debuts, and the way we forgive and forget questionable behavior by beloved fighters. Duffy also does a... so-so impression of a certain famous cage announcer.0:00 Intro: Get ready for Keith's betting reaction face8:33 MarQuel Mederos (10-1) vs. Mark Choinski (8-0)15:47 Quillan Salkilld (8-1) vs. Yanal Ashmouz (8-1)24:54 Kalinn Williams (15-4) vs. Andreas Gustafsson (11-2)37:09 Joo Sang Yoo (8-0) vs. Jeka Saragih (14-4)46:37 Ariane Lipski da Silva (17-10) vs. Cong Wang (7-1)55:05 Serghei Spivac (17-5) vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta (13-1)1:09:34 Azamat Murzakanov (14-0) vs. Brendson Ribeiro (17-7, 1 NC)1:21:04 Bruno “Bulldog” Silva (14-6-2, 1 NC) vs. Joshua Van (13-2)1:31:12 Vicente Luque (23-10-1) vs. Kevin Holland (27-13, 1 NC)1:38:52 Mario Bautista (15-2) vs. Patrick “Patchy” Mix (20-1)1:55:32 Kelvin Gastelum (19-9, 1 NC) vs. Joe Pyfer (13-3)2:09:46 Julianna Pena (12-5) vs. Kayla Harrison (18-1)2:34:55 Merab Dvalishvili (19-4) vs. Sean O'Malley (18-2, 1 NC)2:59:31 A quick rundown of all the picks

Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell are back to talk about the upcoming Bantamweight title matchup between Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley at UFC 316 on June 7 in New Jersey. Also, the guys take a look at the upcoming schedule including Belal Muhammad vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov that Jon Anik revealed will take place in October. Plus, the guys ask the question: Who are the five most powerful people in all of combat sports? Merab Dvalishvili broke his toe on the dome of a training partner this week, which seems like poor timing, considering his men's bantamweight title defense against Sean O'Malley is coming right up at UFC 316 on June 7. When your game plan hinges at least partially on your unstoppable takedowns, that seems like it could potentially be a big deal. No worries, though. The always irrepressible Merab points out that he's got nine more toes, so if he needs to cut this one off in order to fight O'Malley, so be it. For O'Malley, did foot stomps just become a big part of the strategy? Plus, Vitor Belfort is going in the hall, Nate Diaz is back in the news and is the MMA world ready for Ciryl Gane — leading man? Today's episode of UFC Unfiltered sees Jim Norton and Matt Serra kick off a Monday full of fight talk with bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen and featherweight standout Yair Rodriguez. First up, Sandhagen joins the show just days removed from his dominant second-round TKO over Deiveson Figueiredo. He breaks down his performance, shares what clicked in the cage, and explains why he's ready to step in as a title challenger following June's Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O'Malley rematch. Between interviews, Jim and Matt react to the weekend's biggest upset: Bo Nickal suffering his first professional loss at the hands of Reinier de Ridder. The guys break down what went wrong and what could be next for the highly touted prospect. Later, Yair Rodriguez stops by to reflect on his rebound win over Patricio Pitbull and to lay out his vision for the featherweight division. Focused more on avenging his loss to Alexander Volkanovski than chasing a grudge match with Diego Lopes, Yair also gives his take on the evolution of his training partner Belal Muhammad, who defends his welterweight title this weekend at UFC 315. To wrap up the show, Jim and Matt dish out shoutouts to the standout performances from UFC Des Moines and look ahead to a stacked week of MMA action.

Cory Sandhagen did everything in his power Saturday to prove he deserves bantamweight title consideration. In the UFC Des Moines main event, Sandhagen dominated two-time flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and looked to be cruising to a decision or a clean finish when the bout was stopped just before the end of Round 2 due to a Figueiredo injury. Even with that unfortunate ending, there should be no question Sandhagen is worthy of a championship shot. But does the UFC see him as the No. 1 contender? On an all-new edition of On To the Next One, Alexander K. Lee goes solo to discuss what's next for Sandhagen with bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili set to defend in a rematch against Sean O'Malley at UFC 316 on June 7. Additionally, future matchups are discussed for Reinier de Ridder after he humbled Bo Nickal, what to do with Nickal following his first loss in MMA, veteran welterweight Daniel Rodriguez, main card bantamweight winners Montel Jackson and Serhey Sidey, and the returning Mason Jones. Plus, some great listener picks to round out an otherwise dreary combat sports weekend. Follow Mike Heck: @m_heckjr Follow Alexander K. On today's episode, I introduce you to the newest addition to the UFC: Aaron Pico! Then, I went back and rewatched Sean O'Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili, and I think it was a lot closer than you might remember. Also, my reaction to Carlos Prates smoking four cigarettes at once—is it just for attention, or is there a real problem here? Then, as we gear up for UFC 314 in Miami this Saturday night, I'll explain how Paddy Pimblett is creating a path for himself to fight Arman Tsarukyan. Also, Alexander Volkanovski believes he can beat Diego Lopes—but are we underestimating him? And finally, it's time for another round of “Ask Uncle Chael!” To support this program, please leave me a review on Apple Podcasts or submit a rating on my Spotify page. On today's episode, Ben Askren says Sean O'Malley made a huge mistake accepting a rematch with Merab Dvalishvili—but I'll tell you where I disagree, and what's going to be different this time around. Then, after spending plenty of time trying to figure out the right next opponent for Ilia Topuria, I'm turning the question over to the listeners—who should he fight next? Meanwhile, with reports that Islam Makhachev is waiting on the outcome of Belal Muhammad vs. Jack Della Maddalena before deciding his next move, I'm assuming he's eyeing a jump to welterweight. So what does that mean for the rest of the lightweight division? Also, Paddy Pimblett made it clear in a recent interview that a win over Michael Chandler won't be enough for him to have a title shot—and I think it was stupid for him to say so. That said, I also explain why Pimblett may have the advantage over Chandler when they meet on Saturday. And finally, my official prediction for the featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes. To support this program, please leave me a review on Apple Podcasts or submit a rating on my Spotify page.CHAPTERS:Askren: Merab vs. O'Malley rematch a mistake (00:00)Who should Topuria fight next (7:15)Makhachev waiting on Belal vs. JDM (13:29)Pimblett talks out of title fight (23:04)Pimblett's advantage over Chandler (31:10)Official prediction: Volkanovski vs. Lopes (38:43)
Sean O'Malley is getting a second shot at bantamweight king Merab Dvalishvili, but some people aren't happy about it. Petesy Carroll, Chuck Mindenhall and Ben Fowlkes kick off the show discussing the UFC 316 rematch (4:40).With Manel Kape's meeting with Brandon Royval being the only fight announced for UFC 317, the big international fight week card, the lads contemplate a potential super fight between Merab and Alexandre Pantoja, who have both effectively cleared out their divisions (19:22).On the topic of UFC 317, comments from Islam Makhachev's camp have claimed that he will await the winner of Belal Muhammad vs. Jack Della Maddalena before making his next move. Does that obscure the chances of his highly anticipated meeting with Ilia Topuria (23:52)?Looking forward to the weekend, Chuck shares insights he gained from speaking to Lerone Murphy ahead of his clash with Josh Emmett (40:31), before the trio give their verdicts on the revamped PFL (54:11).Finally, Ben discusses his fabulous European vacation, sharing thoughts about the waffles in Belgium, his mastery of the French language and accidentally wandering into Amsterdam's red light district (1:03:40).
On today's episode, I tell you why I love the booking of Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O'Malley 2, and why I think it'll be different this time around. Then, I talk about Ian Machado Garry's decision to step in on short notice against Carlos Prates, and why I believe it's a massive fight for each guy.Meanwhile, Mateusz Gamrot says he's the backup fighter for Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett next weekend, but I'm not sure I actually believe him. Plus, I explain why a loss to Diego Lopes might end Alexander Volkanovski's storied career. Also, I thought Craig Jones vs. Gable Steveson in a grappling match was an April Fools joke, but apparently it's real ... and I like it! Merab Dvalishvili vs Sean O'Malley 2 headlines the event while Julianna Pena vs Kayla Harrison sits as the co-main event. How can Sean's camp ensure that the rematch does not go the same way the first fight went? DC provides a unique move that Suga can make to help with his wrestling ahead of June 7. Plus, why does Chael think Pena vs Harrison could have been the main event? Can this fight finally be the one that pulls Amanda Nunes out of retirement. Also, UFC PPV's have been announced through June 7, and international fight week is still wide open... Chael P has some insight on why this is the perfect time for Jones vs Aspinall. Ilia Topuria said they GUARANTEED him a title shot for his next fight, but if Islam Makhachev doesn't want the fight, what will Dana White and the UFC decide to do?! Ben Askren IS BACK with Daniel Cormier to talk about the dilemma facing the lightweight division and he tells DC why he think Topuria HAS TO BE Makhachev's next fight. DC argues that Islam beating Topuria wouldn't be given the props it deserves, because Ilia is moving up divisions as did Alexander Volkanovski before losing to Makhachev. Plus, the guys react to Dana White announcing Sean O'Malley fighting Merab Dvalishvili in a rematch for the title, Conor McGregor running for President, and the NCAA wrestling championship! #Volume #HerdSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

UFC 311 is in the books and both Islam Makhachev and Merab Dvalishvili remain UFC champions. It was a hectic fight week that saw top lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan withdraw the day before the event, allowing Renato Moicano to step in on short notice. Unfortunately for Moicano, he was unable to capitalize on his opportunity as Makhachev dismantled him quickly, submitting Moicano in the very first round. The co-main event was less dominant but no less impressive as Dvalishvili out-worked Umar Nurmagomedov over five rounds, taking a clear decision in his first-ever title defense. Mike Heck is on vacation so on this week's all-new edition of Between the Links, Jed Meshew takes over the hosting chair and is joined by MMA Fighting's Alexander K. Lee to break down all the big takeaways from UFC 311 and answer fan questions. Follow Jed Meshew: @JedKMeshew Follow Alexander K. Islam Makhachev and Merab Dvalishvili both retained their titles on Saturday at UFC 311. In truth, Merab stole the show in the co-main event, finally emerging with the unanimous decision win over Umar Nurmagomedov after an insane, exciting, back-and-forth fight. In the main event, well, it wasn't totally Islam's fault that he couldn't put on a similarly inspiring showing, after Arman Tsarukyan dropped out with back issues at the last minute. Still, Islam made it look pretty, pretty, pretty easy against replacement fighter Renato Moicano. Plus, with Jiri Prochazka suddenly showing something resembling some defense in a win over Jamahal Hill, are we getting ahead of ourselves to say light heavyweight is … back? Monday after a massive UFC card. No better place to be go than MORNING KOMBAT! Luke and BC are back to break down all the action from a massive night. Starting in the main event, Islam Makhachev finishes late replacement Renato Moicano with ease. Is now the time for Makhachev to move up to 170 pounds? Ilia Topuria tweets he could finish Makhachev right now: Is that the best fight UFC can make in terms of the combined talent in one bout? In the best fight of the night, Merab Dvalishvili outlasts Umar Nurmagomedov in a wild co-main event. Is Merab truly a P4P level fighter or is he just simply too relentless for anyone who can't finish him first? In other big fights, Jiri Prochazka TKOs Jamahal Hill by improving to 5-0 in the UFC with 5 finishes against anyone not named Alex Pereira, is it fair to call Prochazka the second best light heavyweight in the company? Plus, the guys react to the UFC 313 card that was announced. With an Alex Pereira-Magomed Ankalaev light heavyweight title bout in the main event and a key lightweight contender bout with Justin Gaethje and Dan Hooker in the co-main, Luke and BC grade the card.
