Dana and Tom with returning guests Klarissa (I've Seen That One (IG)) and Ralph Esparza (Film Producer) re-revisit Jaws (1975) for its 50th Anniversary: directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Peter Benchley and Carl Gottlieb, cinematography by Bill Butler, score by John Williams, starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss.Plot Summary: Jaws is a masterclass in cinematic suspense, a film that grips the audience with primal fear and refuses to let go. Directed with surgical precision by a young Steven Spielberg, it tells the story of a seaside town terrorized by a great white shark—an unseen menace that lurks beneath the surface both literally and metaphorically. Roy Scheider's Chief Brody, caught between political pressure and his own conscience, anchors the human drama, while Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw provide texture as a scientist and a grizzled fisherman, respectively. But the real triumph of Jaws is its restraint. The mechanical shark's frequent malfunctions forced Spielberg to show less, and in doing so, he created more: more tension, more imagination, more terror. John Williams' iconic score doesn't just accompany the action—it is the shark. What emerges is not just a thriller, but a work of art that understands the mechanics of fear and the anatomy of heroism. It's not about a shark; it's about the people who must confront it—and, by extension, themselves.Guests:KlarissaI've Seen That One (IG)Previously on Roman Holiday (1953) RevisitRalph Esparza (Film Producer)Credited on Tollbooth, Mad House, Killer Date, An Occasional Hell, and One Degree Celcius@ralph_esparza on IGPreviously on Magnolia (1999)Chapters:00:00 Introduction and Welcome Back Klarissa and Ralph03:11 Relationship(s) with Jaws15:34 Cast of Jaws16:32 Why Doesn't Jaws Seem to Age as Much as Its Comtemporaries?23:23 What is Jaws About?33:07 Background for Jaws38:33 Jaws Success - Accident or Genius?40:35 Plot Summary for Jaws42:05 Did You Know?45:51 First Break46:48 What's Happening with Klarissa and Ralph49:38 The Stanley Rubric - Legacy52:20 The Stanley Rubric - Impact/Significance54:22 The Stanley Rubric - Novelty59:24 Second Break01:00:07 The Stanley Rubric - Classicness01:06:28 The Stanley Rubric - Rewatchability01:15:15 The Stanley Rubric - Audience Score and Final Total01:17:57 In Memoriam01:19:55 Remaining Questions for Jaws01:33:22 Thank You to Klarissa and Ralph01:35:30 CreditsYou can also find this episode in full video on YouTube. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter,

Tune in as 2 Cents Critic kicks off Pride Month! Yes, this month has circled back around for the year 2025, so the program will be focusing on queer art. For this first episode of June, Robyn Zabukovec (@TheFinalGirly) strides on back to her guest chair for a breakdown of Hannibal, the horror-thriller show that premiered on NBC in 2013 and spent three seasons diving into the grisly and psychological layers of the bond that grows between an FBI criminal profiler with a painfully perceptive knack for empathy and a cunning forensic psychiatrist who harbors murderous and cannibalistic secrets. Comparing this show to the underrated horror movie Sound of Violence (which Arthur and Robyn previously covered last Pride Month on 2CC), the fake TV series Clarice, and Robyn's hatred of the movies Hannibal (2001) and Red Dragon stand out as a few of the subjects on this episode.Developed by Bryan Fuller, Hannibal stars Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, Caroline Dhavernas, Hettienne Park, Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams, Gillian Anderson, Raúl Esparza, Kacey Rohl, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Suzy Eddie Izzard, Gina Torres, Anna Chlumsky, Katharine Isabelle, Michael Pitt, Joe Anderson, Vladimir Jon Cubrt, Cynthia Nixon, Richard Armitage, Rutina Wesley, Tao Okamoto, Glenn Fleshler, and Fortunato Cerlino.Spoilers start at 40:45Note: Sorry for not posting an episode last week! BROWNSVILLE, Texas - When he appeared as a panelist at RioPlex's Texas Port to the Stars FDI Summit in Houston, Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, Jr., said this is the best time ever to be the leader of his city. Cowen said: “I think we have an extremely strong value proposition. I always tell people it's the greatest time ever to be mayor the city of Brownsville. We have over $40 billion of capital investment projects in our area. And what I'm most proud of is, for example, NextDecade, which is building their $18.4 billion liquefied natural gas plant, they're hiring 70 percent local talent. SpaceX, they have over 3,200 direct employees. Over 70 percent local talent. That says that we have the human capital needed for companies to be successful in our region.”Cowen gave similar remarks in an interview with Ron Whitlock Reports at Rally in the Valley 4.0, an event held recently at the Brownsville Events Center by the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation. Asked by veteran broadcaster Ron Whitlock about the state of the Brownsville economy, Cowen said:“I always tell everyone that this. This is the best time ever to be mayor of Brownsville. We've got so much growth happening in Brownsville and outside of Brownsville. I think we've been able to showcase our workforce with with SpaceX and with Bechtel, and NextDecade at the Port (of Brownsville). Each of those huge projects have been able to use over 70 percent local workforce. So I think that shows that we have the skilled workforce needed for large scale industrial projects to be successful.”Cowen said the key thing now is for the city to work with local educational institutions to ensure that the pipeline continues. “I think we're doing a great job of that. And I think, you know, we'll have some more announcements later, more projects that are coming to Brownsville, and we're excited to continue that growth.”Whitlock also interviewed Rafael Vela, executive director of Workforce Solutions Cameron at Rally in the Valley. Vela praised GBIC for hosting the event. He said there needs to be more such events across the region. “There can never be enough of these events. As important as this is, there should be a dozen of these events throughout the Valley. So what we hope to do is expand with our partner, GBIC, and get other communities in the area to do the same thing. Not just in our service area, not just in Cameron County, but really the whole Valley, because it can be so impactful.”Whitlock agreed. He said every panelist seemed to have a “little nugget of important information” that was disseminated to the 400-plus students present. “One was, don't be afraid to fail. You'll learn more from failure than you do from success. That was just one of the nuggets that was disseminated here today,” Whitlock said.Whitlock also interviewed Joe Esparza, the commissioner representing employers on the Texas Workforce Commission. “We are here at Rally in the Valley because we support initiatives that encourage students to get more involved with internship opportunities. We also support employers with resources on like a cost-sharing program, through our cooperation with the (Texas) Higher Education Coordinating Board,” Esparza said.“It's important because we're developing our next generation of workforce, and exposing students to as many industries as possible. That gives them a better grasp of where they want to be and how they're going to find success.”Go to www.riograndeguardian.com to read the latest border news stories and watch the latest news videos.

What up Foooo's!!! Felipe talks making less money than his wife, his new Netflix special and roasts Anthony A for good measure. Felipe Esparza was born in Sinaloa, Mexico. He lived on his mother's family's ranch in Sinaloa before moving with his family to live with his aunt in Tijuana, where they lived for about two years. His father had left the family to go to the United States alone. Eventually, before President Reagan's amnesty law, Esparza, his two brothers, and his mother illegally immigrated to the United States, traveling in the car of a "coyote" smuggler. During the trip, they were stopped at a checkpoint in San Clemente, California, and he was held in a holding cell with his brothers, separate from their mother, for a short period of time. The family was deported. They attempted the trip again, but they were stopped and deported again. They tried a third time, using the passports of cousins who lived in California. They changed cars twice and were driven to Carson, California. They were then moved to the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, where his father was living.[3] Esparza was raised in the Aliso Village housing projects of Boyle Heights.[4] He attended Theodore Roosevelt High School.[5]

Destination dining is a key part of the business environment on Main Street. Without gathering spaces and innovative menus to draw visitors in, the Historic District would struggle to generate and hold the crowds it needs to thrive. Most local establishments have been here for some time, supporting and benefiting from the neighborhood's unique culture. But no two are alike, and to prove it, we're talking to a pair of wildly different (and wildly successful) business owners: Steve Brown and Dan Weinberger. Here's what we're serving up:00:00-04:55... dining demand in the Historic District04:56-08:43... the man behind DFW's favorite deli08:44-10:15... how Weinberger's almost landed in Southlake10:16-13:11... the full-service restaurant no one expected to find13:12-15:15... extreme makeover: Funeral Home edition15:16-17:00... the Margarita Capital of Texas17:01-18:04... why conference attendees need to get away18:05-19:38... how Esparza's leads with relationships19:39-21:40... They share compelling gains in early literacy, the efforts to prepare students for both college and careers through durable skills, and the work being done to support students in both traditional and alternative education environments. Tracy and Kym also discuss how the middle school experience is being tailored to support adolescents as they prepare for their future.
