In this special episode, Billy Saas, Maxximilian Seijo and Scott Ferguson announce the launch of the collective's new scholarly journal: Money on the Left: History, Theory, Practice.Click here for the journal's inaugural publication, “Food, Money, and Democracy: Cultivating Collective Provisioning for Resilient and Equitable Communities of Work,” co-authored by Benjamin C. Wilson, Taylor Reid, and Max Sussman. As Billy, Maxx and Scott explain in their conversation, Money on the Left: History, Theory, Practice is a peer-reviewed, open access journal of scholarship in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The journal places money's public origins and capacities at the center of left inquiry and action. It cultivates interdisciplinary approaches to past and present, aesthetics and politics. And it advances intersectional forms of research and practice in service of a just transition from social and ecological devastation. During their dialog, Billy, Maxx and Scott discuss the journal's key aims and publication schedule, while offering advice for prospective authors.See our Instructions for Authors page on our website, if you are interested in submitting or pitching an essay to the journal. Benjamin C. Wilson, Taylor Reid, and Max Sussman join the podcast to discuss their forthcoming co-written essay, “Food, Money, and Democracy: Cultivating Collective Provisioning for Resilient and Equitable Communities of Work.” Inaugurating our new journal, Money on the Left: History, Theory, Practice, the article politicizes what Sanjukta Paul and Nathan Tankus term “coordination rights” across monetary and production sectors and focuses on the coordination of food systems, in particular. Coordination rights are fundamental to the process of building resilient communities, our guests argue, determining whether social provisioning systems are “collective” or “concentrated.” In our conversation, Wilson, Reid, and Sussman consider several promising cases of collective provisioning, which prioritize democratic participation and ecosocial stewardship over the austerity and profit-maximization associated with concentrated industry. Such examples include La Via Campesina movement for Food Sovereignty, the Black Cooperative Movement in the U.S., and restaurant reactions to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lamenting the failures of such models when faced with systemic illiquidity, our co-authors also importantly extend collective coordination principles to monetary systems, exploring small and medium-scale monetary experiments that use food systems as a way to build community capacity.Visit our Patreon page here: https://www.patreon.com/MoLsuperstructureMusic by Nahneen Kula: www.nahneenkula.com

The New Zealand Olympic triathlon team for Tokyo has been named - but there's a been controversy over the selection process. 11th ranked Hayden Wilde will spearhead the quartet.Tayler Reid's been given the second men's spot over the higher-ranked Sam Ward.Several athletes appealed their omissions, but the retirement of Sophie Corbidge has paved the way for the naming of Ainsley Thorpe and Nicole van der Kaay in the women's.Sports broadcaster Mark Watson told D'Arcy Waldegrave that he is a big believer in sending the best athletes to the Olympics, and Ward should have been picked, and has been devastated by the choice"The believe for the nature of this relay that Taylor Reid perhaps offers a little bit more."He says that he wants to know how many opportunities Ward received to compete in the races. And he does not believe that the two women selected are worthy enough to be called Olympians - noting that other competitors have missed out on going to the Olympics by seconds who would have been more worthy of representing New Zealand. "If they aren't good enough, don't send them."LISTEN ABOVE

Since COVID19 hit the world, triathletes have suffered just like everyone else. Limited opportunities to train and virtually no racing apart from virtual. The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has been a big help to triathlon, distributing grants to help athletes survive and in recent months, bumping up the prize purse at selected races (£15k for Helvellyn and Outlaw X in the UK) for the pro athletes racing. On December 6 the PTO Challenge Daytona will air and this event will have the biggest prize purse ever offered for a professional triathlon race with £1,150,000. There will be an equal number of pro male and female starters and the prize pots are identical. In another first, the prize money will be distributed among all athletes with every starter guaranteed to take home a minimum of $2500. In this week’s episode, I talk to 2 talented Canadian athletes who will be racing in Daytona. Taylor Reid has five professional 70.3 victories (including three Ironman 70.3 victories) and has been on the podium fifteen times. After chasing the Olympic dream for 7 years, he had some success winning the U23 Canadian Champion in 2013. He then made the switch to long-course triathlon in 2014, focusing on the Ironman 70.3 events all around the world. The longer event, which required more endurance, suited his strengths. Alongside his triathlon career, Taylor is also a spokesperson for dyslexia, sharing his story with the world to help raise awareness about dyslexia. Jackson Laundry is a two-time Ironman 70.3 champ (Raleigh 2018, Mont Tremblant 2019) and has eleven 70.3 podiums. He was also the winner and co-organizer of the 2020 Canadian pro tri championship, a race that he and Taylor decided to host in order to give the community something to look forward to and give fellow athletes a high level race. It was a huge success, bringing many of the top Canadian athletes together, with their own private TV crew and CBC coverage. Taylor is also the co-host of "The Real Triathlon Podcast” and has had a successful virtual race season in 2020, taking 4th place at the 2020 Zwift pro tri series, 2nd place at Ironman VR14, and winning 1 stage of the Super League e-series. Listen in to the interesting conversation with these two enthusiastic, personable and professional triathletes trying to make their way in the world and giving back a little as they continue their journey. Hopefully you’ll appreciate this as well as we chat about: Life as a pro triathlete - living the dream or scraping a living The life of a professional triathlete during lockdown in Canada How COVID 19 has disrupted their training and racing plans PTO and the impact it’s having on professional triathlon An athlete turned race organizer, and getting a better appreciation of the work done by race promoters and volunteers Challenge Daytona To find out more about Jackson: Website - https://www.jacksonlaundrytri.com/ Instagram - @jacksonlaundrytri To find out more about Taylor: Website: - http://www.taylor-reid.com/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIj6iRJupVYsVB06igYz9zQ?view_as=subscriber Twitter/instagram: @TC_Reid We also talked about: "The Real Triathlon Podcast": hosted by Jackson and two fellow pro triathletes You can find that here - https://therealtriathlonpodcast.podbean.com/ Podcast Instagram handle is @therealtripodcast Here is the link to the race highlights video for the Canadian Pro Triathlon Championship. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k_Cek3u8Jfo&t=4s Taylor talked about his work increasing awareness of dyslexia. 290 - IRONMAN© 70.3 Mont Tremblant - Taylor Reid Professional-I really enjoyed catching up with professional triathlete Taylor Reid in this episode. We talk about all the training he does going into the races as well as what he does in the off time. Like play xbox and hang out. He’s been doing triathlon ever since he graduated university, and is a complete history buff. Older history than I like, but none the less he knows his stuff. As someone that struggles with reading myself, we talk about how having dyslexia for him empowered him through delayed gratification. This is a really fun episode and I really enjoyed talking with Taylor.
