Alopecia Life

Welcome back to Alopecia Life and season 4. It's so great to be back, sharing about topics that are important to those of us living with autoimmune hair loss. I've been on a brief hiatus as I've been working on releasing a course for parents and caregivers of children living with alopecia. If you haven't yet checked out my website https://www.alopecialife.com/, feel free to head on over there to see what it's all about. I'm super excited to release episodes this season. Guests are always phenomenal, and I know they provide such great insight as they share their stories with all of us. I love talking about alopecia now, but throughout my life, as I lived with different levels of hair loss, I didn't want to talk about it at all. That all changed, when I met a group of friends who were living with alopecia too. Connection is important, for everyone, really. I know the last few years has really put that into perspective for the entire population. Connection to others, to not feeling alone, and so much more.No-one looks at what I do and wonders, "Gee. Why does she do this?" But some may wonder why I put my energy into very specific things. Head-On, Stories of Alopecia is 7 years old. I can't believe it's been out there for so long. When I didn't see a book that could provide inspiring stories and beautiful photos of people around the world living with alopecia - I knew it had to be done. When I was looking for podcasts that opened up conversations around alopecia and I didn't find something that fit - I decided to release one. Publishing a book and releasing a podcast didn't come easy for me. I knew nothing about either of them, and undeniably...they both had a steep learning curve. I had strong doubts, which I think was more about my evolving alopecia confidence, than anything else. Never talking about it, to always talking about it, and encouraging others to share their own stories so that each of us can help each other grow has become something that feeds my soul. To make those deep connections with text on the page or a voice through the airwaves. It's now part of who I am. Now, I'm adding something new. Something I care so deeply about that it's taken me over a year to create. My parents, who are awesome, didn't have a clue about alopecia. As we talked about before, there were very few to no resources when I was diagnosed. Over the last several years, as I've coached and mentored families, I've consistently heard the same questions and concerns that my own parents felt when I was diagnosed. I started wondering how I could help multiple people at once - families and children who were feeling lost, confused, and very alone. What would have helped my parents? What would have helped me and my sisters? How could I make it easier for these families so they didn't ultimately have to learn all of it on their own over several years or decades? Sometimes, we have to learn on our own to make the experience a better one. In this case, this added knowledge only gives you powerful options, a way forward in ways that make sense for you, your family, and your child. If we could have had a how-to model of doing alopecia, this would have been it. The Alopecia Roadmap course gives you video lessons that explain key knowledge, skills & resources, checklists to help navigate the first day of school, traveling, and doctor's appointments, and so much more. There are messages and knowledge from alopecia mentors, with a cameo appearance from Anthony Carrigan. Parents who have gone through the struggles have shared their letters to school and their insight about what to do in difficult situations so that you can be one step ahead. With anything I do, it's always a collaborative effort, and I'm so thankful for all who contributed their time and energy intoSupport the show

Could the food we eat and the air we breathe be damaging our immune systems? The number of people with autoimmune diseases, from rheumatoid arthritis to type 1 diabetes, began to increase around 40 years ago in the west. Now, some are also emerging in countries that had never seen the diseases before. In this episode from January 2022, Ian Sample speaks to the genetic scientist and consultant gastroenterologist James Lee about how this points to what western lifestyles might be doing to our health, and how genetics could reveal exactly how our immune systems are malfunctioning. Matt talks to Nate Garrison about strength training with autoimmune disease. Nate is a videographer and video editor for Barbell Logic that Matt met through Tactical Response. He discusses his journey with autoimmune disease and how barbell training helped his physical and mental health throughout the ongoing process. Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease Nate's story begin with his older sister, who struggled with and ultimately died from Crohn's disease. He had seen his sister confront Crohn's. When going through Navy EOD School, he realized that he was seeing symptoms that his older sister has had. Instead of quitting or going to the military medical personnel, he toughed it out and got private medical care as long as he could. He was first diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC). Later, the doctors diagnosed him with Crohn's disease. He has undergone multiple surgeries, and struggled with excruciating stomach pain, chronic diarrhea, and resultant mental anguish. He had to constantly be aware of where the closest toilet was and bring extra clothes, just in case. He faced obstacles and pain, and could have easily used his disease as an excuse to not further himself and continue to pursue health and excellence. That's not what he did. Weight Lifting with Autoimmune Disease Nate was used to difficult military training, but had never lifted weights. Strength training provided an opportunity to build and better himself in an area he had no experience. He started squatting with 85 pounds, and began his linear progression from there. Strength training with autoimmune disease helped him, but came with voluntary and involuntary hardship. He did his bet to eat food to support his training, and sometimes had to go to the bathrooms multiple times just during the squats. But he completed his workouts and kept training. He worked with Matt as his coach to adjust the stress appropriately and dealing with the Valsalva Maneuver and wearing a belt after a surgery that require cutting through his abdomen. After every surgery he has completed, he has had to reset with a low weight, but he knows it's good for him. In fact, the surgeon asked what he had been doing, as his abdominal wall had grown noticeably thicker after he began squatting and deadlifting heavy.   GET STARTED with one-on-one online coaching FOR FREE! This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens. Every day, 80 million Americans are dealing with some form of autoimmune disease, including Hashimoto's. Hashimoto's is the leading cause of hypothyroidism (i.e., an underactive thyroid) in the US, and roughly 14 million people are struggling with this diagnosis. The conventional approach to treating it is based almost entirely on suppressing symptoms with drugs. However, with a Functional Medicine approach, there are so many other steps for treating the thyroid. I talk with Dr. George Papanicolaou, Dr. Elizabeth Boham, and Dhru Purohit about why thorough testing is necessary for identifying Hashimoto's and how lifestyle changes, such as removing gluten, could help to treat this condition. Dr. George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for Functional Medicine practitioner. Upon graduation from his residency he joined the Indian Health Service. He worked on the Navajo reservation for four years at the Chinle Comprehensive Medical Facility, where he served as the Outpatient Department Coordinator. Dr. Papanicolaou joined The UltraWellness Center in 2017. Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Through her practice and lecturing she has helped thousands of people achieve their goals of optimum health and wellness. She witnesses the power of nutrition every day in her practice and is committed to training other physicians to utilize nutrition in healing. Dr. Nancy Wiley, a super smart woman who graduated from Columbia University and Orthondontist who practiced for 27 years, is now here on Health Is PowHer to share her spiritual truths in her new book, The Divine Trust: A Practical Guide to End Your Suffering and Find Your Way Home At the age of 12, Dr. Nancy Wiley became fascinated by how certain people seemingly manifest things into their lives --when she manifested a beautiful thoroughbred jumper for herself. After reading The Power of Your Subconscious Mind just a few short years later, she began to understand how she had manifested her own horse that she always wanted. Simultaneously, she also began a lifelong practice of meditation, includingTranscendental Meditation, Holosync (brain waive entrainment), and guided meditations with many teachers, including Jeddah Mali, her most treasured teacher, to whom she attributes the attainment of Unity Consciousness. With her continuing experience and ever-growing confidence in navigating through her inner realm, she was able to reach a state whereby she no longer suffers, no matter what life presents. Her Trust in Source has become unshakeable.  From direct experience, she is now absolutely certain that there is a Divine Presence that wants everyone to know It and Trust It. As a scientist, she has used the field of Quantum Physics to lend a left-brained understanding to what her profound peak spiritual experiences were and how they were possible. After witnessing what she considered a miracle --when her mother was instantly healed from an advanced stage of breast cancer --Dr. Wiley subsequently became a Reiki Master. She now practices many other forms of energy medicine, some of which include EFT (Tapping), Spring Forest Qigong, and Diamond Feng Shui.  In this episode, she discusses how she was guided to write this book, The Divine Trust. To give you the message that you are protected, safe, loved and that everything is unfolding to support you right this very moment.  There wouldn't be any worry, anger, frustration, misery, guilt, shame or any of the other negative emotions, suffering and mind loops that disturb your sense of peace, gratitude, success, wonder and love. And it's all about trusting yourself, your divine spirit, so that you can journey through this life at peace! You can order her book HERE and get her goodies at DivineTrustBook.com that go along with the book when you buy! ---------------------------------------------------------------- She has an amazing Masterclass if you want to learn more from her:   Master Class: The Seekers Journey/ Living Life with Ease and Grace We are all on a journey whether we know it or not. But chances are that if you are reading these words, you already are aware and you have many questions about life. Wouldn't it be great if we had a mentor who could guide us along our path, a person to go to ask questions especially when we are just starting out? I know I wished I had a mentor like this, someone to go to who had figured out many answers to the questions of life. That is why I am have made available a 3 part, one-hour forum that was prerecorded in June of 2022. Here is what we will be discussing: Understanding the design of life to explain the meaning of current events and why they are happening. How these events might bring fear and anxiety and what you can do to lessen your fear. Understanding the foundation of all spiritual practices, miss this one step and you will be building your foundation on shaky ground. Once you get it, you will have a firm ground from which to build your life. Listening to your own intuition and trusting yourself enough to make better decisions for your own life. Through both a short explanation and then a question-and-answer segment, you will leave with a much better understanding of why events unfold as they do. You may be able to breath a little easier and even feel or sense the grace of life. All are welcome! And All are held in a safe and peaceful place! The only prerequisite is an open heart and willingness to see things differently than you have in the past. Back in 2017, Katherine unknowingly confronted her first bout of mold toxicity in an LA apartment with hidden water damage. She put on 20+ pounds, her face was puffy, her skin turned gray, and her hormones were WAY off. She spent an entire year in bed and grew increasingly anxious, isolated & depressed. It was in this darkness that Katherine set out on the path to become her own health advocate. She saw countless allopathic & functional medicine practitioners, experimented with Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic modalities, and learned that even though she had to adopt new health & lifestyle protocols, this didn't mean she had to lose all hope of living a “normal” life. Katherine has since become an advocate for approachable clean living, guiding thousands of clients to heal from chronic conditions through simple lifestyle shifts without sacrificing their relationships, career, and overall quality of life. In today's episode we talk about: The unspoken connection between chronic illness and spiritual ascension, and why so many intuitives struggle with autoimmune disease Her candid journey with autoimmunity, mold illness, fibromyalgia & arthritis, and how this experience catapulted her on her path to physical, emotional, and spiritual healing Why living low-tox is about so much more than just what you eat and the products you use - and how to discover YOUR unique Clean Living Blueprint to get to the root cause of your health concerns KB's contact info: Website: https://justbeinhonest.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/justbeinhonestkb/ Juliet's contact info: Website:https://www.rootedpower.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/juliet_root/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thewoocast/message

Dawn Cady is a Success Guide, Intuitive, Certified Holistic Therapist, Owner and Founder of Alleviate Pain.  Dawn suffered for 31 years with opioid addiction, learning how to walk again despite doctors insisting she'd be disabled for the rest of her life. Dawn created The Neural Alignment Method®, uniting over 120 of the world's best healing tools and techniques that she incorporated into her online programs. When working one on one with clients, Dawn connects with their higher self/soul, channelling the messages that give you guidance to heal from all life issues/blockages, including chronic pain, anxiety, depression, confusion, and family issues. After hitting rock bottom Dawn was ready to die. She was described as - an opioid addict, that was permanently physically disabled, depressed, suffering from anxiety, PTSD and going through a nervous breakdown. Instead of giving up, she transformed into a multi-award winner who created a life-changing method that went through 2 years of clinical trials. She now guides and shows people through a range of online programs, how they too can heal themselves. No matter what you have been told there's always room for your body to heal beyond what you thought was possible because she too was told she could not heal and proved everyone wrong. 3 top tips for my audience: 1. Never give up on yourself  2. Focus on what you want your life to be, not what it isn't  3. Life is simple, it's just not always easy and by taking one step at a time and focusing on the now moment, you will create the life you want.  Social media and contact info.  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DawnCadyPainCoach LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dawncady/ Telegram: https://t.me/healyourselfdc  Email: dawn@alleviatepain.com.au Website: https://www.alleviatepain.com.au/  #tags.
