In deze aflevering van Op z'n Kop! gaan Marianne Zwagerman en Rick van Velthuysen in gesprek met psychiater Jim van Os over de grote hoeveelheid eenzaamheid in de samenleving. De aanleiding voor het gesprek is het feit dat van de ongeveer 1 miljoen mensen in de Ziektewet in Nederland 42 procent een arbeidsongeschiktheidsuitkering ontvangt vanwege psychische stoornissen. Van Os ziet dat mensen in de samenleving verbinding missen, eenzaam zijn en daardoor mentaal ziek worden. Met de toenemende druk op de GGZ pleit hij voor een andere aanpak, waarbij we afstappen van het stellen van diagnoses op basis van de DSM en zoeken naar oplossingen zodat zorg meer in de samenleving kan worden opgevangen. Hoe verbind je mensen die eenzaam zijn? En wat kunnen wij zelf doen om anderen te helpen? Luister mee en oordeel zelf!

Jim van Os is hoogleraar psychiatrie. Hij is gespecialiseerd in de behandeling van mensen die last hebben van psychotrauma, psychosegevoeligheid en bipolaire stemmingsgevoeligheid. In 2014 publiceerde hij ‘De DSM-5 Voorbij'. DSM-5 is het internationale standaardwerk voor het classificeren van psychische stoornissen. Het boek stelt de bijdrage van DSM-5 aan het kapitalistische ‘spel' tussen farmaceuten, psychiaters, verzekeraars en politici ter discussie. Ook publiceerde hij ‘Stress, the Brain and Depression' en ‘Kopzorgen. Trauma begrijpen'. Nu komt hij met ‘Kopzorgen. Psychedelica begrijpen in 33 vragen'. Psychiater Jim van Os pleit voor een revolutie in de geestelijke gezondheidszorg. “De reguliere methode is niet wetenschappelijk, maar wél lucratief.” Volgens van Os moeten we af van het systeem van diagnoses, pillen en eindeloze wachtrijen. “Wat echt helpt is menselijk contact. En dat is nodig, want gekte zit in iedereen. Soms komt het er gewoon meer uit”, zoals bij Van Os en zijn zoon.
