"Changing the game from within — sometimes you need to create a new path to shine as a leader." Erica D'Eramo, a trailblazer in the energy sector and champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), joins us on today's episode. Founder of Two Piers Consulting, Erica is a mechanical engineer with two decades of experience in the international energy industry, now dedicated to elevating DEI in workplaces. In this episode, Erica and I talk about how she decided to become a mechanical engineer despite initially believing it sounded too boring! Because girls often look at math and science related fields and think it sounds hard or uninteresting, right?Erica also shares her thoughtful theory as to why so few women enter into male dominated fields, and why the few who do, don't always last. It isn't what you may think, and has to do with how girls and boys are socialized differently. I was most excited to learn what her life was like from being one of two women on a boat out in the ocean for 30 days at a time, to being in the board room being surrounded by men, - these are two totally different environments that she needed to navigate – listen carefully to hear her techniques and how she handled being told that swearing is not “lady-like.”Make sure you listen all the way through because Erica talks about what well intentioned organizations need in order to make their diversity equity and inclusion initiatives truly effective. - Learn more about Erica's work: https://www.twopiersconsulting.com/- Reach out to Erica: https://www.linkedin.com/in/erica-deramo/And don't forget to leave a review or share the episode to inspire another woman who might be on her own path in a male-dominated career!

The childcare industry is very specific, which provides commercial real estate agents operating in the sector more opportunities to add value... But even if you have a more mainstream specialisation, this rule still holds true: the more value you add, the more often you'll be referred opportunities. CRE Success member Celestine Eramo of ASL Real Estate is focused on childcare and in episode 133 of CRE Success: The Podcast she joins Darren Krakowiak to talk about childcare real estate, adding value to clients, managing your time (including working remotely, with an assistant and using automation), and accelerating your professional growth. This Friday, November 11th is Veterans Day in the United States. This national holiday honors those who have served in our country's armed forces, and was originally recognized in 1918 to mark the armistice that ended World War I. This year, we have Colonel Angela Reber joining us to discuss ways that organizations can support veterans who are transitioning into the civilian workforce, or who are currently part of the workforce. This episode also discusses the topic of suicide prevention and awareness and may be upsetting for some listeners. If you, or someone you know is in crisis, please reach out for help. There is a new textable number available for support: "Today, “988” is the three-digit, nationwide phone number to connect directly to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. By calling or texting 988, you'll connect with mental health professionals with the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Veterans can press “1” after dialing 988 to connect directly to the Veterans Crisis Lifeline which serves our nation's Veterans, service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and those who support them. For texts, Veterans should continue to text the Veterans Crisis Lifeline short code: 838255." Lastly, the views expressed in this episode are those of, the host, Erica D'Eramo, and our guest, Colonel Angela Reber, and they do not necessarily represent the official policy of the Department of the Army, Department of Defense or the US Government.
In this episode, host Erica D'Eramo, a self-proclaimed introvert, is joined by guests Maryellen Roberson and Melissa Olivadoti, an extrovert and ambivert, respectively. We discuss the definitions of these concepts, as well as what they mean to us in our daily lived experiences. We also touch on the value of self-awareness and the benefits and costs of flexing beyond your comfort zone, particularly for leaders with a diversity of energy types on their teams. We close the episode by busting some myths and providing some recommendations. Books that we mention in this episode are "The Introvert Advantage: How Quiet People Can Thrive in an Extrovert World" by Marti Olsen Laney Psy.D., and "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susan Cain.
At first, Amy Stein thought the aches and pains gripping her body were psychosomatic. Working as a medical researcher studying chronic pain management, it seemed plausible that the symptoms her patients were experiencing made her hypervigilant of her own body. But then the muscles in her back started to fuse, her weight dropped to a dangerous 85 pounds, and her body — screaming in pain — began to shut down. Western Medicine — including 30 different specialists, from Neurologists to Hematologists, and Rheumatologists plus $320,000 in out-of-pocket medical expenses — offered no solutions. Sick of being a medical guinea pig, and with a growing cocktail of prescription medications, Amy — who has a Bachelor of Psychology, and an MBA — put her research skills to personal use. More than 8000 hours of investigation later, Amy discovered the link between trauma and autoimmune disease, the power of plant medicine, addressing imbalances within the body, toxicity, and parasites. A note from Amy: "Dr. Kim D'Eramo and other Energy Medicine teachers have been a big influence on my journey. It wasn't until I understood the relationship of mind-body-spirit healing that I began to recover. I am still constantly learning as I love researching and reading. I am working on starting to reach out and helping others to rebalance and thrive with the "power of the plants". I created my own original herbal products that I use in my daily healing and look forward to sharing with others in the future. I want to share my story with others to let them know there is a way back from the HELL of trauma and AI diseases. I decided to start writing a book about my experience. I am also planning on creating a series on different topics that I feel are relevant to know about in order to maneuver the minefields of our toxic world. I have used the plants in many different forms and I am always excited when I discover a new use for a plant-I owe a lot of my healing to Mother Nature and establishing trust in the innate intelligence of my body." Tourism & travel: Laurie Taylor explores their past, present and future. He's joined by the Italian social theorist, Marco D' Eramo, whose latest book unpacks a global cultural phenomenon at the point at which some of us are considering the possibilities of foreign travel, once again. How did travelling, as an elite pastime, evolve into mass tourism? Why do tourists often despise other tourists? How 'authentic' is the average heritage site? What impact does tourism have on our cities and the environment? Might we find more 'otherness' by staying at home? They're joined by Emily Thomas, Associate Professor of Philosophy at Durham University, whose research has found that philosophers have theorised extensively about the meaning and purpose of travel in a quest to understand the complexity of the world and of ourselves.
