Send us a Text Message. Are you ready for the thrill of the hunt? Join us as we welcome Brayden Alveti, and Cody Marrs from Whitetails Unlimited to our latest podcast episode. You'll be on the edge of your seat as Brayden shares his audacious plans to hunt a whitetail deer with a spear, a newly legalized method in Arkansas. Inspired by Tim Wells, Cody elaborates on the ethical considerations and the meticulous preparations required for this primal hunting technique. We also discuss the buzz surrounding the upcoming bow and gun seasons, spotlighting the new velvet week that has hunters eagerly checking their gear.Curious about the new trends in deer hunting weaponry? We explore the growing interest in alternative firearms like straight wall cartridges and air guns, especially during muzzleloader season. Our conversation delves into the motivations behind these innovations, from enhancing hunting accuracy to making the sport more accessible. We also ponder whether these changes are driven by revenue or efforts to boost hunter participation and control deer populations. Throughout, we reflect on the different skill sets required for each hunting tool and share personal anecdotes about our experiences in the field. But the episode isn't all about the hunt; it's also about the future of hunting culture. We emphasize the importance of engaging the youth in outdoor activities through Whitetails Unlimited's initiatives like BB gun shooting tables and the My First Year program. Personal stories highlight the profound impact of these efforts, aiming to instill respect and appreciation for hunting in the younger generation. Tune in for an enlightening discussion that bridges the gap between tradition and innovation, ensuring the timeless allure of the great outdoors is passed down to the hunters of tomorrow.GUEST WEBSITE: https://www.whitetailsunlimited.comOUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/SOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760
It's hard to believe that we are at the end of our 2023 HHAUSA season already but it's a reality and I continue to be humbled at the ever growing support that our mission is receiving. While I will miss seeing the HHAUSA family for a few months, I am excited for some time off to reflect, recharge and prep for what is lining up to be the biggest year in our history in 2024.With return trips to Tomah Warrens Sportsman's Alliance and Antler Archers and a maiden voyage to Racine Instinctive Bowmen, we were blessed with three amazing weekends of archery.A lot of familiar faces hit the 3D ranges here in Wisconsin and we met a bunch of new friends as well that are now part of our band of brothers and sisters. Young and old, beginners to seasoned archers, I can't say enough about the depth of community that has developed in just four short years. The 2nd Annual HHAUSA Banquet with Whitetails Unlimited was also a hit on Friday, August 18th, as our attendees were treated to the next HHAUSA film featuring our good friend Kyle Mindiola and his Veterans organization Archery Origins. The behind the scenes work has been underway for months to make 2024 our most ambitious and impactful year yet and we cannot wait to start sharing more details as we head into the fall.We want to thank everyone that makes HHAUSA a success. To our listeners, clubs, shoot attendees, volunteers, and sponsors, we say thank you. Without you, we could not serve those who have and continue to serve us.For all the outdoorsman, we pray for a safe and successful hunting season and look forward to seeing everyone again next year. May God bless you and God bless America! For more information about HHAUSA and how you can support our mission, visit www.hhausa.orgTo purchases HHAUSA hats, shirts, challenge coins and tumblers, visit www.hhasports.com
It's hard talk to my good friend and our podcast editor Logan Chartrand, especially as we draw closer to Christmas, without the conversation turning to Little Debbie. After taking care of that important piece of business, we also discuss the recent success that his son and father had in the woods during the Missouri gun opener. I love hearing those stories of hunters across multiple generations enjoying the outdoors together each fall. Here's to the Chartrands and countless other families like theirs that are keeping the sacred traditions of hunting alive.Chit chat aside, we dive into what you have all hopefully been waiting for: the unveiling of the 2023 HHAUSA 3D Shoot Schedule. Carefully thought out over the past six months (and with a considerable amount of prayer), we had to make some difficult decisions going into next year. That included saying goodbye to four great archery clubs in The Badger State. Rib Mountain Bowmen, Waushara Archers, Twin City Rod and Gun Club and Blackhawk Archers of Stevens Point will not be on the calendar for 2023. While we have made some great friends at those ranges and events over the years and appreciate all of their support, it was time for us to expand our footprint a bit.Dropping down from six to four shoots, we kick off the season in the Madison area with a two day 3D event at Blackhawk Archers in Verona April 29th and 30th. But that's not all. Joe Rhodes from The Kneistedt Foundation will be joining us to host a sporting clays shoot at the Oregon Sportsman's Club and Brian Austin and The Beastmode Archery Challenge will be putting on an endurance event at Tyrol Basin, both on Saturday the 29th. That evening, we will also be hosting a Meet and Greet at Tyrol with a few surprises for all in attendance. After a two month break, we head back to the Tomah Warrens Sportsman's Alliance for a two day shoot July 8th and 9th. In what is sure to be a fun weekend, the guys from Chase Nation and The Breaking Point will be on hand for some friendly competition with a twist. We look forward to making this our biggest and best event yet with TWSA in the heart of Cranberry Country.Four weeks later on August 5th and 6th we head to the Racine Instinctive Bowmen just south of Milwaukee. Don't be fooled by the name, these guys are serious about compounds and have an amazing range across nearly 200 acres. Partnering with Bowhunting.com and the Bowhunt or Die crew and can't wait to make this a regular stop on the tour. For those of you willing to fly in from around the country, this will be your best bet as the Milwaukee airport is a short drive with Chicago less than an hour away as well. The HHAUSA Banquet will return to Wisconsin Rapids on Friday, August 18th, hosted once again by Whitetails Unlimited. To make the weekend even more special and worth the trip, our fourth shoot of 2023 is just a 5 minute drive up the road at Antler Archers the 19th and 20th. Our hometown archery club, this shoot just keeps getting better each year. With a couple other things in the works for the weekend, you don't want to miss it.While the plan was to expand beyond state lines in 2023 with an event or two, that is still to be determined. We are still in talks to pull something together and if that happens, we will share it here first. Beyond excited about what the future holds for HHAUSA, we cannot thank you all enough for the continued support. Whether it's been attending a shoot, buying our HHAUSA apparel, making a donation to the cause or listening in each week, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of our Veterans, First Responders and Law Enforcement Officers. I may sound like a broken record but we are just getting started and I look forward to seeing you all soon on the range. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving and God bless! One of my greatest shortcomings is that I seldom take time to rest. Between being a business owner, running a nonprofit, having a weekly podcast, and trying to be a good husband, family man and friend, it doesn't leave me with a ton of free time. Having danced too close to the edge at least once or twice a year for the past decade, I have to consciously tell myself to slow down, usually with a reminder from my wife and a few close friends. If I don't, I start juggling too many things and run the risk of being less effective in all areas of my life. Since rediscovering my faith in 2016, God has shown me what true rest really looks like. While still a work in progress, I feel that I'm doing a better job of self care and as a result, operating in a more positive headspace on a regular basis.I decided in early September to take a few weeks off from the podcast to rest, reflect on the successes of the 2022 HHAUSA event season and begin working on next year. Missions 21 and 23 rounded out the shoot schedule and we hosted our first ever HHAUSA Banquet in partnership with our good friends at Whitetails Unlimited. The third film in the HHAUSA Film Series from Sam Ubl and Chase Nation debuted that evening, featuring my trip to Washington DC in July on the Old Glory Honor Flight. It also included the presentation of a $70,000 check to Never Forgotten Honor Flight out of Mosinee. The culmination of a three year goal to fund a full flight out of central Wisconsin, it was there where that I really developed my love for our Veterans and where many of the ideas for HHAUSA originated.Successes aside, it was also a bittersweet summer as we moved throughout Wisconsin. knowing that the time was coming to move on to other cities and regions that will allow us to grow the organization and impact more lives in the Veteran and First Responder communities. That said, we will not be returning to Waushara Archers in Wautoma, Rib Mountain Bowmen in Wausau, Twin City Rod & Gun Club in Neenah or Blackhawk Archers of Stevens Point in 2023. We want to thank these clubs for opening their doors and ranges to us over the last few years and taking us to the next level. They will continue to receive our support on the for profit side for their club functions and we strongly encourage you to check out their shoot schedules in 2023 and beyond. Tomah Warrens Sportsman's Alliance in Warrens and Antler Archers in Wisconsin Rapids will once again be hosting events for HHAUSA in 2023. We have two other cities confirmed and waiting on a third with the complete lineup for next year due out in late November.A quick weekend trip to Nashville for a 3D shoot on 9/11 also planted seeds in The Volunteer State for what will hopefully be a great fundraising opportunity for HHAUSA next summer. Thank you to my good friends Al Quackenbush, Chad Stillman, Josh Vegors and Ira Dean for one of the greatest evenings of my life and a powerful conversation that I will never forget.Last but not least, another three year journey came to an epic conclusion on the evening of September 28th. I was blessed to harvest "Houdini", a mature Wisconsin whitetail that I had been chasing on my home farm since first spotting him on trail cameras in 2018. Tipping the scales at 200 pounds and green scoring 169" and change, he's by far the largest buck I have put on the wall in 35 years as an outdoorsman and I could not be more thankful. Overall, 2022 was a great year and I cannot thank you, our listeners, enough for the continued support of all things HHAUSA. We have some exciting things in store for 2023 and beyond and I can't wait to share those with you in the weeks and months ahead. Until then, have a safe and blessed hunt, God bless our Veterans and First Responders and God bless America!

Jeremy Moore, the DogBone Hunter, joins us today to talk about shed hunting, tracking wounded deer, training dogs, and most importantly how to improve the health of our favorite canines. Plus he shares a lot of insights and ways we can improve our own health and fitness with the help of a good dog! Jeremy has been training dogs for over 15 years using a low-pressure positive approach to maximize a dog's natural potential and instincts. Through hard-learned lessons, he found a lack of tools to help train dogs to hunt sheds. And as he worked with his own dogs he developed tools that brought about the line of products that now form his business, DogBone Hunter. He is a contributor to North American Whitetail Television, a co-host, and hunter on NAW TV, Headhunters TV, Midwest Whitetails, Raised Hunting, Outdoor Wisconsin, as well as a co-host and hunter on We Love it Outdoors. He also contributes content and articles regularly for print outlets including, Whitetails Unlimited, Safari Club International, Legendary Whitetails, Badger Sportsman, North American Whitetail, and GunDog Magazines. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tougherthanlife/message

Hardy Face Paint – Meet the owners of Hardy FacePaint Hello. We are Brian and Mariah Hardy, creators of HARDY FACEPAINT and avid, responsible hunters just like you. Brian had always used face masks, preferring the convenience of masks to the mess and trouble of paint. However, all of that changed the first time Brian went bowhunting in Kansas, the ultimate whitetail hunting state. As a big buck came into his line of sight, Brian drew back on his bow only to have his facemask catch on his release! There was nothing for him to do except draw down and watch as the buck of a lifetime walk away. Determined to never experience a facemask mishap like this again, Brian purchased every face paint product on the market. No matter what he tried, the paint ended up feeling greasy, messy, and itchy. Some of the products smelled like crayons. As any good bowhunter will tell you, it is imperative to be scent- free on the hunt. Mariah had never liked face masks as they would constantly ride up on her face and hindered her shooting. However, as someone with sensitive skin, she didn’t have the option of using harsh and irritating face paints. Not only that, Mariah is also a safe cosmetic advocate who lives a wholefood and organic lifestyle, so the toxic and harmful ingredients of face paint were not only impractical for her, but also in conflict with her values. Brian and Mariah became increasingly frustrated trying to find a camouflage face paint that was not only made with quality ingredients, but was also effective, safe, gentle, and easy to both apply and remove. After exhausting all of the existing options, they decided to take matters into their own hands. They left no detail unconsidered when creating HARDY FACEPAINT. They thought about what hunting face paint would ideally look, smell, and feel like. They researched ingredients, safety, and effectiveness, as well as ease of application and removal. They essentially dreamed up a hunter’s perfect face paint and engineered HARDY FACEPAINT to be exactly that. IBO – The International Bowhunting Organization (IBO) was created in 1984 by a dedicated group of bowhunters who shared the desire to ensure that bowhunting and the ideals of wildlife conservation survive, expand and flourish to be shared, enjoyed and passed on to future generations. By its charter, the International Bowhunting Organization’s purpose is “To promote, encourage, and foster the sport of bowhunting; further bowhunter education; act as a political coordinator and liaison for the protection and advancement of bowhunting; function as a clearinghouse for essential bowhunter information; and adhere to the basic ideal of the unification of bowhunters.” Soon after its inception, the IBO launched the Triple Crown of Bowhunting, consisting of three national tournaments hosted in separate states. Utilizing identical rules and classes, the Triple Crown culminates with the crowning of national champions of various age, gender, and equipment classes. The series continues to expand each year and has become the undisputed indicator of the best individual performers and equipment in the sport of 3-D archery and bowhunting. In 1989, the IBO established a series of sanctioned tournaments worldwide in which participants may qualify to compete in an annual finale to be held in a large and accommodating, destination-type venue. Presently, hundreds of local and regional bowhunting clubs host qualifying events for the opportunity to participate in 3D Archery’s largest and most prestigious event, The IBO World Championship. National Deer Alliance – NDA’s Initiative The mission of the National Deer Alliance (NDA) is to serve as the guardian of wild deer conservation (white-tailed deer, mule deer, black-tailed deer, Coues deer, and Key deer), and our hunting heritage. Formally incorporated in May 2015, the NDA is driven to assemble and unite a diverse group of stakeholders that includes hunters, managers, and the hunting industry to help create positive outcomes for deer and deer hunting. A strong board of directors that represents organizations and groups such as the Mule Deer Foundation, Quality Deer Management Association, Whitetails Unlimited, Archery Trade Association, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Wildlife Management Institute, Vista Outdoor, and Bass Pro Shops, leads NDA. The Need – Deer are the most commonly pursued and economically important game animal in North America. Despite the fact that 83% of the more than 14,000,000 hunters in the United States identified as deer hunters, there was no national organization geared toward protecting the interests of all deer hunters and the deer hunting industry before the formation of NDA. Amazingly, less than 1% of deer hunters belong to a national conservation organization dedicated to the protection of deer and our deer hunting heritage. This is where NDA comes in. The time has come for deer hunters, managers, and the hunting industry to organize and provide a united front to address current and emerging threats to deer hunting and our heritage.

Dr Dave Samuel spent a 30 year career as a wildlife management professor at West Virginia University. Dr Dave said that he truly enjoyed his work there and loved new interns because he always had another deer study ready to go. However, Dave's journey goes well beyond a life of academia. Dave is an accomplished writer and journalist for Bowhunter Magazine, Whitetail Journal, and Bowhunting.net. He's also won several lifetime achievement awards from the National Bowhunter Education Foundation, QDMA, and Whitetails Unlimited. He's also been inducted into the Bowhunter and Archery Hall's of Fame. Not too shabby a resume. Oh, and did we mention that he's one heck of a good deer hunter? It probably goes without saying. Dave struggles a bit with the physical aspects of deer hunting these days after suffering from a surgery gone bad where a surgeon accidentally severed the nerve to his diaphragm. But that doesn't stop Dave. He still goes hunting. We touch on several different topics in this episode and dig deep into Dave's strategies for killing big whitetail with a bow and arrow.
