Mark Dowdle is an endurance athlete and former football and lacrosse player. This conversation explores the intersection of endurance and identity, digging into the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and how we get uncoupled from them. We discuss turning pain into purpose, shared vulnerability as connective tissue, faith, why mood follows action, and dancing at the edge of your capabilities — where the mask comes off. Which running backs offer the best value in the middle rounds of your fantasy football draft? Adam, Jamey, and Dave break down which RBs are worth targeting and which come with too much risk. Adam opens the show with group chat stats (10:33), including a Kyle Monangai and Blake Corum comparison, before the latest news & notes (20:51). The crew then dives into the Round 7 backs (24:06), debating if Rhamondre Stevenson is worth drafting despite backfield competition with TreVeyon Henderson, while discussing Tony Pollard's reliable floor and Chuba Hubbard's upside. In Round 8 (43:31), Kenneth Gainwell and Rico Dowdle are evaluated as options whose workloads could fluctuate depending on how their backfields develop. The round 9 conversation (52:30) compares Rachaad White to Gainwell & Dowdle, while also weighing the Jonathon Brooks uncertainty against his high-upside potential. Finally, the guys wrap up by forecasting J.K. Dobbins' outlook (1:01:10) and examining how RJ Harvey could impact his value.Fantasy Football Today is available for free on the Audacy app as well as Apple Podcasts, Spotify and wherever else you listen to podcastsWatch FFT on YouTube SUBSCRIBE to FFT Dynasty on AppleFOLLOW FFT Dynasty on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2aHlmMJw1m8FareKybdNfG?si=8487e2f9611b4438&nd=1
July 1, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 157 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers hiring Darian Thompson to be the team's new Assistant Special Teams Coach. Steelers RB Rico Dowdle has a chance at accomplishing a rushing feat in 2026 that no other NFL player has ever done before. Alex and I discuss the specifics related to that run at history by Dowdle and his chances of actually doing so. After thoroughly discussing the Thompson news and the Dowdle feat he can accomplish in 2026, we talk in-depth about nine more players in my annual 90-in-30 training camp preview series. The nine players Alex and I discuss in this episode are CB Brandin Echols, S DeShon Elliott, CB Daylen Everette, OT Troy Fautanu, OC Zach Frazier, TE Pat Freiermuth, TE JJ Galbreath, DT Anthony Goodlow, and DT Derrick Harmon. As part of our discussions about all nine of those players, we give the summer outlook for each and the chances a few of them have at sticking in Pittsburgh once the preseason ends. Much later in this show, Alex and i discuss the latest news concerning QB Brendan Sorsby. We also briefly discuss CB Joey Porter Jr. having yet to sign a contract extension this offseason and QB Drew Allar having yet to sign his rookie contract. This 118-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above, and we make sure to answer a few listener emails we have received to close out this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Mark Dowdle is a backyard ultra competitor who found running after college football and lacrosse, not because he loved the sport, but because he needed somewhere to put everything he was carrying. What started as 3:30 a.m. runs to eliminate excuses has...
This week on the Dirt & Vert Podcast, we are bringing you a heavy-hitting episode packed with prestige, mindset, and some serious backyard ultra strategy. Hosts David and Matt are joined by two of the absolute animals on the USA Backyard Ultra team: the legendary Harvey Lewis and the powerhouse Mark Dowdle. Fresh off their massive battle at the BPN Last Man Standing event, Harvey and Mark are joining forces—and going head-to-head—at Tennessee's notorious Mid-State Mile in Franklin. They dive deep into why they are stepping out of their comfort zones to face 340 feet of grueling elevation gain per loop, how they handle the intense external pressure of media-heavy races, and the specific mental shifts required when the quitting mindset starts sounding reasonable. Mark shares his transition from college lacrosse to running after being inspired by a David Goggins podcast, while Harvey reflects on his incredible longevity in the sport, having run ultras longer than Mark has been alive. We deconstruct the unique format of Mid-State—where you have a strict 20 minutes to complete 340 feet of elevation gain and loss—and exchange veteran advice on managing body temperature in 90% humidity. From Harvey's 3-minute classroom naps to Mark's relentless "Calendar Club" training blocks, this conversation is a masterclass in locking down your mental game and building a bulletproof crew.
Mark Dowdle ran 306.6 miles in 73 hours, drove 20 hours home, picked up a puppy, and was back umpiring youth baseball the next week. That's either the most unhinged post-race recovery plan in endurance sports history, or it's the most honest thing anyone's said about who he actually is.This is the conversation Dominic was saving for after the race—and it delivered on the hype. Mark walks through the G1M Ultra from the inside: the moment on the first night at 2 or 3 a.m. where he made the irreversible decision not to quit; the loop where he noticed Kim and Harvey were off their timing and knew what was coming; and the final miles walking with Kendall as both men quietly sensed the race was ending. The 13-second lap finish wasn't a dramatic sprint—it was two men who'd been through three days of mud and rain and dark deciding, together, to keep going one more time. What makes this conversation different from a typical winner's debrief is what Mark keeps returning to: the idea that who you are at a youth baseball game is exactly who you are at mile 290. His sister-in-law Lily's voice was in his earbuds pulling him through the low loops. The internal battle between wanting the race to end and wanting to see how far two people can actually go together. And the realization, standing upright after 73 hours, that he didn't have to perform for anyone. He also quietly drops that he's now officially a BPN athlete. The chapter he'd title What It Looks Like to Walk in Faith is just getting started.Tap into the Mark Dowdle Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! Mark Dowdle didn't grow up a runner. He was a two-sport college athlete who heard David Goggins on a podcast during a bus ride home from a losing lacrosse trip, and decided to become a different person.Six years later, he's on Team USA. He's won backyard ultras covering 283 miles in 68 straight hours. He ran 135 miles through Northern Minnesota in sub-zero January temps and took first place. He spent an entire year running the day of the month in miles (every single day), logging 6,400 miles before most people finished their morning coffee. He quit his job to go all in. And this October, he will represent the United States at the Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Championship in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. This is the kind of athlete that makes you question every excuse you've ever made.Mark doesn't talk about motivation. He talks about systems. About decisions. About the thousand small choices inside a single race that determine who you actually are when no one is watching and everything hurts. This conversation will mess with you—in the best way.Press play.Tap into the Mark Dowdle Special. Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo react to the introductory news conferences for newly signed NFL free agents Michael Pittman Jr., Jamel Dean and Rico Dowdle. Why was Pittman impressive as he described his career to this point an his aspirations to work alongside names like DK Metcalf, Mike McCarthy, Aaron Rodgers and others within the Steelers offense? Why does Dean feel like he'll be a good fit within new DC Patrick Graham's system alongside names like Joey Porter Jr., Jalen Ramsey and Jaquan Brisker? And what are Dowdle's expectations as he shares the backfield with Jaylen Warren? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. NFL insiders are reporting that the Steelers are ‘nosing around' the QB market as the Aaron Rodgers saga rolls along. In that same conversation, those guys think Kirk Cousins is a real option for the Steelers if Rodgers decides to retire or play elsewhere. Cousins hardly feels like a consolation prize and the guys wondered what the organization would be thinking with a move like that. The fans are too wise to fall for this. It feels like it would be a failing grade from most of the fan base if it gets made. Carolina sports radio host Chris McClain from WFNZ joined the show.
