If you're a fan of guitar-driven rock music, the days of Hendrix, Page, and Halen are long gone. Nowadays, the guitar is rarely front-and-center - and if is, it's usually in the form of a reverb-drenched wall-of-sound or this week's latest grunge homage (don't get me wrong - I'm all in on the grunge revival!). But if you stumbled upon English psych rockers Wolf People and their 2016 record Ruins, you were treated to a collection of guitar riffs so beefy that I'd say guitarists Jack Sharp and Joe Hollick deserve a seat at the table amongst the greats of yesteryear. Truly a gem from the last decade, join us as we dive deep into the fuzz and fury of Wolf People. Tracklist Wolf People - Glass Wolf People - Ninth Night Wolf People - Rhine Sagas Wolf People - Thistles Wolf People - Not Me Sir Wolf People - Kingfisher This show is part of the Pantheon Podcast Network Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 122 of our book read/podcast covering major topics in various fields of psychology moves us into a continuation of the Year of Clickbait with PSEUDOSCIENCE! This Spring we are going to be talking about pseudoscience. Who believes it? Why do they believe it? Is there a kernel of truth to some of the pseudoscientific beliefs people have? And more… In this episode Daniel and Thomas discuss Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Omega Males…and also Psi Males, and Chi Males, and Delta Males, and all of the other made up categories of masculinity to identify with. With the book that set the stage debunked decades ago, where does the state of alpha masculinity exist today and what truth, if any, exists regarding it. Warning: This episode may contain some graphic information and all season we will be talking about some less than savory topics. In Spring 2020 Jack Sharp (singer/songwriter in psych rock band Wolf People) released his first solo album 'Good Times Older.' It is a collection of traditional songs alongside songs that sound like they should be traditional. Recorded in a 15th Century Moot Hall in Jack's home county of Bedfordshire it was produced by Stick in the Wheel's Ian Carter. It is acoustic music at its best, much of the lyrical content is from local sources and embellished by either traditional melodies or Jack's own tunes. He is a gifted singer, guitarist and interpreter of songs. Marisa, Jack & Davy breathe life into lesser known traditional folk songs. They all sing, play guitar and percussion. Their 3 part harmonies and arrangements are inventive and original, occasionally channelling the Young Tradition. They cite Peter Bellamy and Nic Jones as key influences and feature two of Bellamy's songs in this set. Since 2015 Marisa, Jack & Davy have run occasional acoustic folk nights and promoted concerts in and around Bedford under the name Mill Race Folk. They have featured such artists as Martin Carthy, John Kirkpatrick, Anna & Elizabeth, Stick in The Wheel. Mill Race Folk look for venues that reflect the history and aesthetics of the local area. Shows have been held in the 18th century Bromham watermill, the John Bunyan Museum, the John Bunyan Community Boat and the 15th century timber-framed Elstow Moot Hall. Jack Sharp is also singer/songwriter/guitarist with popular psych folk/rock band Wolf People.
