They converse about International Women’s Day, women leadership, sneaker design winner, and community on social media. March 8th is International Women’s Day and K-Swiss is celebrating by highlighting women they have collaborated with in the past, women leaders in the office, and bringing female friends on the podcast for the rest of the month. The majority of the leadership in the office are women and they want to highlight them. Recently, K-Swiss Europe collaborated with retail store USC in London to host a shoe design competition. The winner would get a free trip to Los Angeles, visit the K-Swiss HQ to meet with the designers and bring their shoe to life. Not only that, the shoe design will be produced and sold at USC (150 pairs). Talk about a dream come true. The winner was Tahja @taj.ruth, a young graphic designer from Essex. Congratulations to her. The most important lesson with her winning, is the power of putting yourself out there and not being afraid to share your work. The more you share it, the more people see it, the more opportunity you have. Lastly, K-Swiss Instagram just hit 100k followers! Omar has been spearheading this for over a year and he mentions the power and importance of community. Buying followers and likes is not a good practice when wanting to be authentic and transparent. Even hosting too many giveaways can hurt your brand. The 100k isn’t about the number, it’s about the community that has grown with the team and continues to support. On this episode of K-Swiss Live, Omar welcomes Mason Tompkins K-Swiss videographer as a co-host. They converse about a recent team-building activity and the importance of it, having a voice on TiKTok, mental philosophy, and hitting 100k on Instagram. Every quarter HQ has a town hall meeting where the company gets updated on everything happening in all regions. This meeting was focused on culture and team building. It’s important to work with people from other departments to problem solve and learn from each other. The key learning from this activity was problem-solving as a team, asking questions, and executing the problem faster and more efficient. Everyone has a voice and something to give the world. Mason is currently building his TikTok account around his life philosophy. On a platform where most people think it’s kids, dancing videos, etc, Mason has found that people on that platform are also interested in his life advice. If you want to be seen by more people and grow an audience, produce more content that you’re interested in. “Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be, and be one” – Marcus Aurelius. On the topic of personal branding, Omar and Mason share personal life philosophies. No one knows you better than you know yourself, you know your values, you know what you want to achieve, and if you constantly work on being the hero of your own life, things will improve. Lastly, community is the main reason the team produces podcasts, vlogs, and engages with people on all platforms. Instagram is about to hit 100k! On this episode of K-Swiss Live, Omar and Barney talk about recent collaborations, surrounding yourself around positive people, and the importance of showing up. Collaborations are a big part of our “Spark Strategy. Just like a fire, you give it enough sparks and soon enough you’ll start a fire. The strategy is to create memorable moments in collaboration with pop culture that result with more sales on classic models. The most recent collaborations are with Breaking Bad “Cooking and Cleaning”, and fashion designer Willy Chavarria. Entrepreneurship is the new aspiration of youth culture. Last week Barney was a guest speaker at Stacking Growth, hosted by 26-year-old entrepreneur Thomas Ma, where 100 people are invited to network and learn from industry leaders. It is important to surround yourself with positive and motivated people when you are in the journey of entrepreneurship. If you want positive results, live positive and surround yourself with positive motivated people. We live in a time where everybody thinks they deserve more simply because they showed up to work. There is a difference between showing up and SHOWING UP. Showing up every day, doing your work, and expecting a reward isn’t the same as SHOWING UP, doing great work, and not caring about a reward. “Calm waters don’t make great sailors.” If everything is easy, you don’t learn much, when things are tough you learn a lot, and SHOWING UP when things are tough is how people earn rewards. On this episode of K-Swiss Live, Omar and Barney converse about Stacking Growth, cheering people on, and putting yourself in uncomfortable situations to improve confidence. Stacking Growth is an entrepreneur networking event hosted by Thomas Ma, in Los Angeles and New York. Thomas recently came into the office to visit and talk about TiKTok strategy. Barney says “No one is really off-limits due to social media. Everyone is reachable” and Thomas coming to the office and presenting his idea is evidence of that. Events like Stacking Growth make connecting with CEOs, executives, and hungry entrepreneurs much easier. Cheering people on is so important. Too often people gossip about top performers because of jealousy and personal insecurities. When someone is doing amazing things, it should inspire you to do the same. There is power in cheering people on, vs gossiping and bringing people down. Lastly, they touch on putting yourself in uncomfortable situations to improve confidence. Barney recommends a book he’s reading called “Talk Like TED”. This book is about storytelling and building stories, “Stories are just data with a soul”.
