This is Crue Cast, a podcast about the most infamous band in rock history, Motley Crue hosted by Jason LaChance. This episode I talk with fellow Crue Head and Motley Crue stage clothing designer Tod Junker. Tod and I dig into not only how he came to design stage clothing for the different members of Motley Crue, including the current clothing Vince Neil is wearing on the stadium tour but how his career began with a chance meeting. We also talk about his career as a musician including stories of famed producer Rick Ruben and finding sobriety. He's also designed stage clothing for Steven Tyler, and nameless other performing artists. Junker Designs est. 2001 started with stuff Tod dived outta dumpsters, everything is made with grubby little paws. Tod has mutated, overdyed, rusted, painted, buried, or bled on every piece. The clothes are all one of a kind, made from denim, leather, whatever he can find in the dirty streets of Los Angeles. Wear It Hard. Wear It Loud. Tod was born at St Vincents in Manhattan and grew up in Houston, Texas on a steady diet of Ultraman, horror movies, war films, and Star Wars. Tod spent a lot of time drawing and exploring the creek by his house. At around the age of 8, he started getting in trouble in school for drawing on all his papers and desk. In high school Tod was getting into trouble for wearing biker boots and painting on his clothes, so he quit and started playing in punk rock bands. During that time, Tod started sewing more and putting the legs of jeans on his jackets for arms, drawing, hand painting, silk-screening, and dying all his clothes. Tod continued to mutilate clothes when he moved to LA in 2000. He started to experiment with aging processes, and patternmaking. He made a vest at a friend's house, which found its way to Lenny Kravitz who bought it, and that's how it all started. In this Episode of Crue Cast, a podcast is all about the most infamous band in rock history Motley Crue! I, Jason the resident CrueHead share a snippet from an interview I did with Morgan Rose of Sevendust on the time he filled in for Tommy Lee during Cruefest 2. SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose filled in for Tommy Lee at MÖTLEY CRÜE's last three shows of Cruefest 2 in 2009. On August 14 at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; August 15 at Clarkston, Michigan's DTE Energy Music Theatre; and August 16 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's Post-Gazette Pavilion. Lee was off his kit for several Crüe Fest 2 shows after burning his left hand while playing with a set of sparklers. "Rose came charging in like a knight in shining armor" according to a note on bassist Nikki Sixx's MySpace page. Lee, who had his left thumb and forefinger wrapped in bandages, still took part in the shows, coming on first to explain his absence — "First of all, I suck. I was having fun and I burned myself," he told crowds at the various concerts— then handed a bottle of Jagermeister to the crowd and, during the encores, he played piano on "Home Sweet Home" and thumped on a drum with his right hand for "Girls, Girls, Girls", according to Billboard.com. The last time Lee was forced to sit out a MÖTLEY CRÜE gig was June 12, 2007 when he was he recovering from another arm ailment. EVANESCENCE/DARK NEW DAY drummer Will Hunt filled in for Lee at that show, although Tommy did manage to take to the kit for one number — the immortal "Kickstart My Heart". In this Episode of Crue Cast, a podcast is all about the most infamous band in rock history Motley Crue! Jason talks the support Disturbed lead singer David Draiman has shown Vince Neil. DISTURBED's David Draiman has praised Vince Neil for his performances so far on MÖTLEY CRÜE's stadium tour, saying the singer is "sounding good" and "looking healthy". Neil has been receiving mixed reviews for his vocal performances on "The Stadium Tour", with one reviewer saying that he is sounding "better than he did" in 2015, and another suggesting that Neil's "vocal shortcomings" are being "largely covered by red and white lights and sheer adrenaline." A third reviewer concurred, saying that CRÜE's concerts on "The Stadium Tour" are "so loud [that] it could be hard to hear" Neil over the music, adding that "perhaps that's by design." Draiman took to his Twitter to write: "Proud of @thevinceneil . Videos I've seen of the stadium tour have been great. Sounding good, looking healthy. Good for you brother. Keep knocking em dead @MotleyCrue". One musician who agreed with Draiman was RATT singer Stephen Pearcy, who responded to David's tweet. "Agree, brother @thevinceneil @MotleyCrue still kickin' ass!" he wrote. "Still doing what we've always done (we're gladiators, what works for us might not seem right for everyone) who else has been singing, screamin, yellin at people for 35 plus yrs. Not an easy job, its a dirty job." A short time later, Draiman wrote in response to Pearcy: "If it were easy…everyone would do it (maybe not lol). Gotta keep that torch raised high". On July 6, Draiman took to his Twitter to write: "All you parasitic vultures pretending to be journalists who broke the 'big story' that Vince Neil/ @MotleyCrue uses a teleprompter onstage should really find a new line of work. SO FUCKING WHAT? Most artists with extensive catalogs do. Leave the guy alone FFS." Back in 2016, Neil was asked in an interview with Palm Springs Life how he "still hits those higher registers" after all these years and what he does to keep his voice in shape. He responded: "I have an old road singer/saloon singer mentality. I love performing; that's what I do. I'm thrilled to be there, and I've done it so much. Younger, up-and-coming singers will say, 'Hey, Mr. Neil, what do you do?' And I say, 'Don't do what I do, for God's sake!' I go in a bathroom, and [yells], 'Hey! Heyyyyy!!!' I scream. Even the guys in [my solo] band go, 'What the fuck?' I do the worst thing you probably should, but it works for me. Everybody has a thing that works for them — but what I do for myself, I wouldn't suggest." He continued: "It's been bulletproof over the years. Everybody gets sick sometimes and gets laryngitis, but I've been pretty lucky, especially in that higher-register stuff. And we don't back away from it. It's exactly where all the original tunings were. I understand a lot of people don't want to do that, but if someone calls something out, I go, Fuck it! Let's do it!'" In this Episode of Crue Cast, a podcast is all about the most infamous band in rock history Motley Crue! Jason talks the click bate press making an issue out of Vince Neil using a teleprompter. Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx took his official Twitter account to support his bandmate, Vince Neil, who has drawn attention for using a teleprompter on the stage in a recent show. The Stadium Tour, featuring Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Joan Jett, and Poison, has been finally taking place after several delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. The bands have been on the road since its kick-off in Cumberland, Georgia, on June 16, 2022. Following Mötley Crüe's show at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 5, as part of the tour, a concertgoer uploaded some video clips of the gig on YouTube, showing Vince Neil using a teleprompter to remember the lyrics of the songs. While some fans criticized the singer for not recalling the classic songs, Neil mostly received support from other rockers who didn't make it a big deal. They indeed criticized the media for presenting it as important news. Nikki Sixx's Twitter post read: “Usual bottom feeder press outlets are trying to make up crap to sell their advertising. Forty-one years of songs, and Vinnie is working on his vocals and delivery of the lyrics. I praise him for working extra hard on this tour. Journalists are usually just scabs making up clickbait.” Dee Snider has offered his opinion on Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil using a teleprompter at the band's live shows, saying he doesn't use one in Twisted Sister as: “I didn't kill a lot of my brain cells with drink and drugs”. Snider was tweeting in response to Headbangers Ball host Riki Rachtman, who was addressing the ridicule Neil has received since footage of him using a teleprompter on the band's ongoing tour in the US for The Stadium Tour was uploaded on social media. Rachtman wrote, “So Motley Crue used a teleprompter. Really who fuckin cares. Did you have fun at the show? That's what matters.” Rachtman continued, “A lot of bands have used teleprompters – STOP looking for reasons to criticize. Recorded vocals an artist not caring is bad, but teleprompters? Who cares?”. The Twisted Sister frontman offered his opinion, tweeting, “True that! MOST bands are using teleprompters. Not me, but I didn't kill a lot of my brain cells with drink and drugs (not a criticism. More of an explanation). STOP being so damn critical and just enjoy seeing the people you love on stage! Now lip-synching is another story!” Mötley Crüe will remain on tour until September, with session drummer Tommy Clufetos helping out along the way due to Tommy Lee having acquired four broken ribs in an injury before the tour. In this Episode of Crue Cast, a podcast is all about the most infamous band in rock history Motley Crue! Jason talks about some of the things going on during the Stadium Tour. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, and when life gives you broken ribs, well ... you serve up some ribs and beer to your audience. At least that's what Tommy Lee did during Motley Crue's stop at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Wednesday night (June 22). As with past tour stops, Lee has been performing parts of the Crue's set, gutting it out for fans while playing through four broken ribs. But now finding the humor in the difficult situation, Lee decided to treat some of the audience members to some ribs and beer. I also talk about the concerns before the tour with Vince Neil and my take on how he is sounding. Plus thoughts on the set list and stage show. In this Episode of Crue Cast, a podcast is all about the most infamous band in rock hist Motley Crue! Jason talks about the BS scene from the Hulu series Pam & Tommy in which Tommy Lee gets into a fight with Third Eye Blind. In the fifth episode of Pam & Tommy, the TV show dramatizing the release of the Pamela Anderson & Tommy Lee sex tape, an angry Tommy Lee storms into a recording studio that he thinks Mötley Crüe is still important enough to use and gets into an argument with the up-and-coming Third Eye Blind. While the scene itself works well as a shorthand for one omnipresent band being replaced by another as time passes by, Third Eye Blind frontman/alleged jerk Stephan Jenkins has been getting out there to set the record straight and assure everyone that his band, unlike others, has never been in a feud with Mötley Crüe. Jenkins spoke with Variety about the scene, saying that not only has he never worked in the same studio as Mötley Crüe but that he hadn't “even heard them” at the time the fictional run-in took place. “I actually saw Tommy Lee's penis before I ever heard their band,” he adds charmingly, before adding that he hadn't watched Baywatch either, so the Anderson/Lee sex tape was “my first introduction to them.” “And so we never kicked them out of the studio, but my drummer Brad said that what inspired him to play drums when he was a little kid was Mötley Crüe,” Jenkins says. “So there is a part of Third Eye Blind taking some kind of inspiration from Tommy Lee's drumming.” Variety did manage to track down the person responsible for the fictional encounter: Executive producer Rob Siegel. Apparently, Siegel “did a little quick Google search” to see which other bands were on Elektra along with Mötley Crüe in 1996. He discovered that “the timing was perfect” for a scene where Third Eye Blind is recording their first full-length album when an angry Lee busts into their studio. As for what Jenkins thinks of the show itself, he says he hasn't watched Pam & Tommy but that he “[hopes] whoever played me on TV was pretty.” In another interview from TMZ, he also says he'd like to be portrayed by Tom Hardy or Tilda Swinton in TV and movies going forward. Hulu series Pam and Tommy makes a compelling argument that the unauthorized release of Baywatch star Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee's sex tape is one of the most consequential events in early internet history. Jason breaks down a few things in the Pam and Tommy show on Hulu and talks about the background of the man who stole the tape sex tape from Pam and Tommy, Rand Gauthier as played by Seth Rogan. Tommy Lee's treatment of Rand Gauthier and the subsequent heist plays out on the show largely as it did in real life, with a couple of notable exceptions. Lee really did refuse to pay Gauthier $20,000 for his work on Lee's palatial mansion. Gauthier was apparently prepared to cut his losses until he returned to retrieve his tools and Lee threatened him with a rifle. From that moment onward, Gauthier was intent on exacting revenge. On this Episode of CrueCast, Jason hits the Motley Minute! Motley Crue manager Allen Kovac admitted in an interview with Fox Business that "some of" the members of the band are working with trainers and nutritionists to get in shape for the band's upcoming reunion tour. Kovac was referring to criticism of Crue singer Vince Neil for his supposed diminished singing ability and weight gain, as well as the health status of guitarist Mick Mars, who has been dealing with a chronic form of arthritis that led him to undergo a hip replacement. Kovac explained, "Some of them are working with a trainer, some of them are working with a nutritionist to make themselves the best they can be. The greatest insecurity for an artist is: Is anyone going to care about my music? Is anyone going to buy a ticket? We were in November when the discussions were happening, and these guys were already into regimens of how they get ready for a tour." Speaking specifically about Neil, Kovac added, "Let's see what Vince sings like and looks like when the tour goes out."Story source: Blabbermouth Links https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/crue-cast/id1490213713 https://www.instagram.com/cruecast/ https://www.facebook.com/cruecast https://twitter.com/cruecast https://anchor.fm/cruecast https://anchor.fm/snsnation subscribe wherever you get your podcasts https://linktr.ee/cruecast #motleycrue #cruecast #nikkisixx #mickmars #vinceneil #crueheads --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cruecast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cruecast/support
