This episode features a very fun interview with award-winning designer, artist, owner of Cordella Bridal, and my former Nordstrom co-worker, the one-and-only Marie Cordella. This candid conversation is full of hot takes and big laughs as Marie and I discuss her journey from a child of the arts to a student at Parsons to becoming a renowned bridal designer, and everything in between. Marie gives us a peek into her process of custom-designing each gown to suit the unique aesthetic of each of her brides. She also takes us through the history of bridalwear, shares her deep reverence for art, fashion, and shoes, and reveals the unexpected reason she chose to go to grad school at NC State's College of Design over all the rest. A warning to anyone who may be sensitive to this– Marie also opens up about being in Manhattan on 9/11 and witnessing the profound devastation that occurred. And please pardon our French. We were wide-open and I tried to use my best discretion with the editing.

Fashion never ends. Fashion never sleeps. -Daniela Corte Fueled by a passion for fashion and a love of espresso, Argentinian-born women's clothing designer Daniela Corte wakes up at the crack of dawn ready to create her signature pieces. Voted Best Women's Clothing Designer by Boston Magazine in 2021, Daniela has been making women feel elegant and beautiful in her clothes since 2000. In this interview, she shares stories of her elegant mother who was always put together, and her father who was a clothier in Argentina. He taught her the importance of treating employees like family and with a deep respect for hard work. Daniela's inspiration comes from beautiful textiles. She remembers fondly how a delivery of a bolt of fabric to her father's shop was her greatest joy. Known for creating clothes “made to measure”, Daniela is the queen of the perfect fit. She believes that there are 5-10 must-haves in a woman's closet. “The perfect blazer, the perfect little black dress, the perfect fitting jeans and black pants, and some silk tops and then, you're golden!” A big believer in making a strong first impression, Daniela says: “Style is confidence. Style is power. Style is courage. Style is strength.” For a look inside the creative mind of a fashionista who never sleeps, just hit that download button. #fashion #womensfashion

LISTEN TO LEARN Why you need to define your values while obtaining success How to advocate for yourself Why Suzi planned to become a pediatrician The challenges of patent prosecution WHAT ALSO DISCUSS Advice if you are practicing law and miserable (hint: it's not YOU) How to identify S.M.A.R.T. goals for your life Why [most] lawyers hate math Law school teaches people to advocate for causes they're passionate about, but women lawyers often forget themselves. The giving, or empathetic nature, of most women allows them to be given to their own deficit, but not anymore. Suzi Hixon wants women lawyers to fight for themselves, support themselves, and define success for themselves."You must define success for yourself because otherwise, you will look for the big career, big office, and beautiful family that society tells you that you must have," explains Suzi Hixon in Episode 69 of You Are A Lawyer. You must define success for yourself because otherwise, you will look for the big career, big office, and beautiful family that society tells you that you must have. When you take a step back and think about how your goals and values affect your life, then you will see how your life is successful.“You can always earn another $500, but you cannot get your time back,” explains Suzi Hixon. When Suzi Hixon created the podcast, Legally Blissed Conversations, to hear the struggles and wins of women lawyers. There were often common stories of successful women who weren't the best at advocating for themselves. Where are your drive for success and career goals really coming from? Do you want all of those things and are the things you are chasing aligning with your values? From childhood, Suzi thought that she would be a veterinarian or pediatrician, Suzi did not earn the grades that she thought she needed for medical school and Suzi was disheartened by the MCAT. Born in Colorado, Suzi later moved to Kentucky to attend undergraduate and law school. Suzi moved to California and returned to Kentucky where she runs her law firm and founded the Legalled Blissed community. The Legally Blissed Community provides women lawyers with mentorship and friendship, both help women attorneys to thrive in their careers and lives. After attending law school so that she could extend her undergrad years, Suzi was unsure of the type of law that she wanted to practice after law school.During a study abroad semester, Suzi was introduced to European patent law and found that to be really interesting. But patent law is really steeped in mechanical engineering and didn't play well with the science background that Suzi has. Suzi later changed to trademark law and found it really exciting to work with trademarks, logos, and marketing departments because this work involved marketing departments and the "fun" nerds. They play an eclectic mix of music that often can't be heard anywhere else. As a fan of the station, I love what they do. I've discovered so many artists and new music there. One day, I heard a track by my guest. I was really taken by the flow and the lyrics of what I was hearing. The track titled I Been is by Def Sound, hip-hop artist, published poet, and designer with his own line of clothing. Born and based in South Central Los Angeles, Def describes the music as a synthesis of hip-hop and his Afro-Latino roots using music and poetry as a healing mechanism while weaving together a tapestry of triumph, levity, ancestry and power. As an extra special treat, my son, multi-platinum recording artist and songwriter, Bryce Ross Johnson aka Bryce Vine, agreed to join me on the podcast as co-host in between tour dates. This is Crue Cast, a podcast about the most infamous band in rock history, Motley Crue hosted by Jason LaChance. This episode I talk with fellow Crue Head and Motley Crue stage clothing designer Tod Junker. Tod and I dig into not only how he came to design stage clothing for the different members of Motley Crue, including the current clothing Vince Neil is wearing on the stadium tour but how his career began with a chance meeting. We also talk about his career as a musician including stories of famed producer Rick Ruben and finding sobriety. He's also designed stage clothing for Steven Tyler, and nameless other performing artists. Junker Designs est. 2001 started with stuff Tod dived outta dumpsters, everything is made with grubby little paws. Tod has mutated, overdyed, rusted, painted, buried, or bled on every piece. The clothes are all one of a kind, made from denim, leather, whatever he can find in the dirty streets of Los Angeles. Wear It Hard. Wear It Loud. Tod was born at St Vincents in Manhattan and grew up in Houston, Texas on a steady diet of Ultraman, horror movies, war films, and Star Wars. Tod spent a lot of time drawing and exploring the creek by his house. At around the age of 8, he started getting in trouble in school for drawing on all his papers and desk. In high school Tod was getting into trouble for wearing biker boots and painting on his clothes, so he quit and started playing in punk rock bands. During that time, Tod started sewing more and putting the legs of jeans on his jackets for arms, drawing, hand painting, silk-screening, and dying all his clothes. Tod continued to mutilate clothes when he moved to LA in 2000. He started to experiment with aging processes, and patternmaking. He made a vest at a friend's house, which found its way to Lenny Kravitz who bought it, and that's how it all started. From Machine Gun to Sewing Machine…Trinidad Garcia was already an accomplished clothing business entrepreneur, but he had always wanted to be a U.S. Marine. In 2008, at age 31 he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He deployed twice with 2/7, serving aboard Marine Expeditionary Units in the Pacific. Through two enlistments his dream of becoming a denim designer started burning inside of him again. While at his final assignment, a reserve unit in the Los Angeles area, he secretly applied to the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and was accepted. He balanced his schedule while not missing any of the exercises required, as well as not missing his classes at night. He joined forces with the local VA administrator for FIDM and founded the FIDM-SVA (Student Veterans of America) Chapter; to give those who followed him a better chance at navigating the rigors of student life. As he neared graduation in 2018, Trinidad founded his namesake brand – Trinidad3 Jeans. He experienced local success and wanted to expand his mission to support veterans with every pair of jeans, developing the catchphrase Powering Vets with Every Pair! In addition to operating his own clothing company, Trinidad works for Conflict Kinetics, a civilian company that trains military members through their Synthetic Marksmanship Training Systems (SMTS) - scenario based shooting situations. Through his own struggles with trauma, and loss of identity through his transition from the military, Trinidad got involved with Merging Vets & Players to create an environment where these warriors can share each other's strength and experience and can support each other in building fulfilling lives of service and strength. So what are money leaks? Money leaks are small expenses that add up over time. This can include anything from buying take-out for lunch every day to paying for subscription services that you no longer use. What causes money leaks?Leaking spending results from poor financial planning and impulse purchases that you may not consider expensive at the time, but over time, these purchases add up quickly. What role does a lack of planning play when it comes to money leaks?Poor budgeting and financial planning make it easy to fall victim to leaking spending. If you aren't monitoring your spending and recurring expenses, you're likely to overlook many areas in which you could be saving money.Discover more about Paul's virtual Financial Fitness course at this link, perhaps it can make a difference along your financial journey: https://bit.ly/3dbperGPlan your budget in advance and cut out the unnecessary purchases that don't fit within your budget. Here is a list of money leaks for you to be aware of:Cable Subscriptions – use streaming services instead, however not too manyTake out food, delivery food orders, cook at home insteadPrescription drugs, instead of name brands, purchase generic drugs that cost a lot less.Phone Plans, in particular data, plans excess data usage, late payment fees, etc.Bank fees, minimum monthly fees, maintenance fees, ATM fees, overdraft fees, consider opening an account without feesSubscriptions – email fees for businesses, magazines, online books with Amazon, music, etc.Gym Memberships can be excessive unless you use it on a regular basis to improve your health, it's a good investment, of not to consider home equipment such as a stationary bike, it will help you save money in the long run.Meal Plans can be expensive. You can do better by using coupons at local grocery stores and comparison shopping, preparing meals over the weekend, and carrying in meals to work or school, leftovers are good.Cosmetics/Shave Programs add up over time, the remedy is to find local stores that sell healthy cosmetics that don't harm your skin and shave programs at lower price points.Clothing – Designer clothing is overrated. Comparison shop at a mall or online and you will likely be able to purchase designer clothing at drastically reduced retail prices.Designer coffee at $5 dollars or more a cup, adds up to $150 per month or $1,800 per year. The solution, purchase a jar of coffee at your local grocery store and or online and save a ton.Food waste – People throw away a pound of food per day, this represents a money leak of the highest order. This equates to $1,500 annually.Insurance is another area upon which people can save more money, thereby preventing money leaks. For example, during the pandemic people didn't drive as much, thus their insurance company could adjust their policy because of fewer miles driven, less risk and you save more money.Did you identify money leaks you currently have? If so, do something about it to prevent this from happening to you today and in the future.
