In this episode, we welcome our guest Eli Elmore, a Jacksonville-based photographer, as we dive into the topic of people of influence, mindsets that build success, and much more. We introduce the idea of meeting and connecting with individuals who hold a certain level of power and influence in their respective fields. We delve deeper into the question of what it truly means to be a "person of influence" and explore the different characteristics that determine someone as such. Next, we shift the conversation to sorting through opportunities and finding where we can be most valued. We discuss the importance of being strategic in our choices and maximizing our time and efforts. With only 24 hours in a day, it's crucial to focus on what truly matters. We delve into the topic of finding time for yourself and maintaining focus. We then move on to the topic of dressing better, sharing tips and advice on how to present ourselves in the best light. Eli shares his own personal story of how he sold a photo of Machine Gun Kelly to his marketing manager for his deluxe album cover of Life in Pink. Eli shares much of the mindset that has allowed him to establish himself deeply in his craft. The NEW WAVE OF OLD SCHOOL THRASH METAL (NWOOSTM) is the sonic equivalent of getting in a time machine and travelling back to when thrash was still relatively new (throughout the 80's and the early 90's) and making a few subtle tweaks. All of the classic ingredients of old school thrash are there. The sound, the album art, the band logos, not to mention the continuous evolution of 30 years of metal subgenres that didn't even exist back then, which help to enhance the overall uniqueness of the NWOOSTM sound, keeping the classic thrash metal style from “back in the day” but with enough modern twists and turns to still make it seem like an “exciting and new” genre. It's time to turn on the subtitles, accept the truth about bass players, prepare to go deep (insider) and JOIN US for Vol. III of our worldwide trip through the NEW WAVE OF OLD SCHOOL THRASH METAL. __________ Über diese Songs vom Album “Revolver” wird im Podcast gesprochen 03:25 Mins – “Taxman” 10:44 Mins – “Eleanor Rigby” 19:38 Mins – “I'm Only Sleeping” 23:00 Mins – “Yellow Submarine” 28:22 Mins – “Good Day Sunshine” 37:31 Mins – “And Your Bird Can Sing” 40:38 Mins – “Got to Get You Into My Life” 43:24 Mins – “Tomorrow Never Knows” __________ Über diese Songs wird außerdem im Podcast gesprochen 06:19 Mins – “Taxman” (Live) von Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers 42:31 Mins – “Got to Get You Into My Life” von Earth, Wind and Fire __________ Shownotes: Teaser auf die Titelgeschichte des Rolling Stone im November 2022: https://www.rollingstone.de/rolling-stone-im-november-the-beatles-inhalt-2510257/ Die komplette Graphic Novel zum Album-Cover von Klaus Voormann: https://shopping.voormann.com/product/iconic/ Trailer zur 2022er Special Edition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd5WSqOJF7M Das neue von Klaus Voormann gestaltete Video zu I'm Only Sleeping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XwXliCK19Y __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? BEFORE her face would be revealed in November of 2022 as the cover image of Drake and 21 Savage's collaborative mixtape “Her Loss”, model, adult dancer, nail stylist and artist, Suki Baby, was born Qui Yasuka in North Carolina. As you might imagine – when Drake and 21 originally revealed Suki Baby as the front cover to their new mixtape, it left many fans confused, wondering not only who this mysterious woman was but how she earned this distinction in the first place. To begin with, Suki is of Japanese, Black, and Cherokee descent and after being born in the state of North Carolina, she spent the majority of her childhood living in Japan with her mom. During that period of time, Japanese would become the first language she ever learned to speak, but her adolescence overseas was marked by a serious case of bullying. As the only student of mixed Black and Japanese descent in her city, Suki put up with a lot of snide remarks and outright insults during class hours. And not just from the other students, but the teachers! Her mom would do her best to defend her, but eventually, it all became too much. Rather than keep Suki in a toxic setting, her grandmother put her foot down and encouraged Suki's mother to send her back to live with her father, so she could grow up more comfortably in Houston, Texas.

It's been another 2-ish weeks in these streets and Caroline and Matthew have returned to venture into another band's catalog to create a playlist to get them, this time out, from depressed to relaxed. The band this time out: Heart. Definitely known for several huge hits, Matthew learned that Heart did songs that he knew rather well, but never realized it was them. Caroline points out the definite mom vibes of this group. They both also realize that Ann Wilson is a way better vocalist than she's given credit and Nancy Wilson absolutely shreds guitars. We really enjoyed doing this exercise with Heart for sure. Here's Caroline's playlist. Here's Matthew's playlist. Next up, we're tackling a various artists idea. It'll be "Oops, All Covers!" That's right all cover songs to get us from defeated to elated. We hope you join us right back here in 2 weeks. Same time, same station!

On this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we talk about the legend that is Sean Connery. He was of course the first James Bond, a roll that rocketed him to global fame. For many, he's the only Bond that ever mattered, eventually causing Bond's creator Ian Fleming to even alter his books to be more like Connery. He was a legit badass, with famous fist fights between street gangs and gun toting American mobsters. Sean Connery's ex-wife made claims of abuse, and though he said some unfortunate things about women in the press, he still denied the allegations. From Zardoz to Time Bandits and from Untouchables to Indiana Jones, this one has it all. In the days before music streaming services became a ubiquitous, when physical media ruled the music world, the first thing a music fan encountered before playing the musica on a record, a CD or a cassette was the artwork on the cover. The cover was the always gateway to the music. Some cover art is tastefully done, some covers have Facebook groups devoted to their awfulness. If done very well (or very poorly), cover art can come to define the music the listener is about to play. Welcome to episode 159 of Love That Album. Even before you play a note, looking at the covers of albums like Abbey Road, East or Whipped Cream and Other Delights will bring memories or impressions into your head. You may buy the record for the music, but it may well be the album cover that persuades you to pick it up in the record store in the first place. The very important role of cover designer often decides whether you decide to give an album a second glance. One gentleman who knows this very well is Steven Jurgensmeyer. He may be known to podcast listeners as the host of the excellent All Music Books: Deep Dive podcast (also on the Pantheon network), but his day gig for many years has been in designing album covers. He worked for may years at Ryko and Rounder, so you may well know the artwork he's done for albums by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Sugar (featuring Bob Mould), Branford Marsalis, Robert Cray, Chris Bell and many others. We had a great discussion on his own work, whether an album's success and its artwork are linked, and the contrast between the previous world of physical art layout and its modern digital counterpart....we also take some time to talk about Steven's work with All Music Books. Thanks so much to Steven for his time and invaluable insight into a side of music that we know about, yet don't make as much a part of the conversation. You can check out all the album covers (and more) that we discuss at https://www.stevenjurgensmeyer.com/#/music/ and you can read reviews of a large library of music books at https://allmusicbooks.com/. Traffic was stopped on the B507 road in London so The Beatles could pose for their iconic Abbey Road album ...
The Brothers are on the back foot as Tippa My Tongue fails to materialise by last weekends recording day, but never fear faithful listeners, there is a fallback position! Buying an album was an experience. You anticipated the next visit to the record store and couldn't wait to buy a new record. It was a physical experience. Holding the album, reading the liner notes, and above all studying the album art. The artwork or album cover connected you to the experience. "The Album" is a documentary about the evolution of the record industry told from the perspective from art directors and photographers. Director Kevin Hosman joins The Hook Rocks for an interesting discussion on how the art meant just as much as the music. Please enjoy the episode!
