The four-piece rock band Western Education is another old favorite from our Boston days. We've seen them on stage many times and it's always been a blast, so of course, we had to have them on. Band members Greg Alexandropoulos, Will Hunt and Devin Vaillaincourt join us to recap their most recent singles, which touch on some pretty serious topics, such as the loss of a loved one to cancer and trying to help someone dealing with mental health struggles. The band talks about the real-life people whose stories inspired the music and what it means to share them. Western Education has been around since 2012, and we go into the “good ol' days” of promoting music, how things have changed and how they've changed with them. We talk about favorite Boston venues – ours and theirs -- and some of the stages they've performed on. Opening this episode is an excerpt from the band's recent single, “Catherine What Have You Done” and closing things out is the new release, “Madeline in the Hurricane,” which was released on Nov. 15.

This week, we would like to introduce you to Strong Sense of Place, another podcast distributed by Realm. Secret corridors, hidden rooms, and trapdoors are the stuff of adventure and romance. Egyptian pyramids riddled with underground chambers and booby traps. An English country house with a priest hole and a trick bookcase. A speakeasy with a sliding panel that leads to a brothel and a gambling parlor. Who wouldn't want to go exploring?! And where would Gothic storytelling be without the secret passage in Horace Walpole's 'The Castle of Otranto?' Or the hidden door to the attic in 'Jane Eyre' that's protecting an epic secret? If your childhood was shaped by reading the enchanting adventures in 'The Secret Garden' and 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' or by solving the mystery of 'The Hidden Staircase' with Nancy Drew, this show is for you. In this episode, we discuss an amazing book heist from an ancient French monastery, debate if Ben Franklin was a werewolf hunter, get lost in the Mansion on O Street, and daydream about living in the New York Public Library. Then we recommend great books that lured us into magical portals, dangerous tunnels, secret passages, and other hidden spaces that prove irresistible. Joining me backstage at the Louder Than Life Music Festival in Louisville, KY is drummer Will Hunt from Evanescence, but also from Slaughter, and also from the band where I first heard of Will, Skrape!
In this Episode of Crue Cast, a podcast is all about the most infamous band in rock history Motley Crue! I, Jason the resident CrueHead share a snippet from an interview I did with Morgan Rose of Sevendust on the time he filled in for Tommy Lee during Cruefest 2. SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose filled in for Tommy Lee at MÖTLEY CRÜE's last three shows of Cruefest 2 in 2009. On August 14 at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; August 15 at Clarkston, Michigan's DTE Energy Music Theatre; and August 16 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's Post-Gazette Pavilion. Lee was off his kit for several Crüe Fest 2 shows after burning his left hand while playing with a set of sparklers. "Rose came charging in like a knight in shining armor" according to a note on bassist Nikki Sixx's MySpace page. Lee, who had his left thumb and forefinger wrapped in bandages, still took part in the shows, coming on first to explain his absence — "First of all, I suck. I was having fun and I burned myself," he told crowds at the various concerts— then handed a bottle of Jagermeister to the crowd and, during the encores, he played piano on "Home Sweet Home" and thumped on a drum with his right hand for "Girls, Girls, Girls", according to Billboard.com. The last time Lee was forced to sit out a MÖTLEY CRÜE gig was June 12, 2007 when he was he recovering from another arm ailment. EVANESCENCE/DARK NEW DAY drummer Will Hunt filled in for Lee at that show, although Tommy did manage to take to the kit for one number — the immortal "Kickstart My Heart". The project came together among conversations between friends during the height of the Covid Pandemic. The Project is comprised of five members -- Ron Poisson, as lead singer, drummer Will Hunt of Evanescence, guitarists Doc Coyle and Chris Cain, and bassist Kyle Konkiel, all from Bad Wolves. During the Covid lockdown, Poisson was active in the social media world conducting interviews on live platforms to continue to keep the music artists and his brand in the public eye with so many people out of work and bored. These interviews led to the initial conversation between Poisson and Hunt about having some fun and doing a couple covers to keep busy. Poisson and Hunt decided work on this project together and reached out to their mutual friends from Bad Wolves , Coyle, Konkiel and Cain to join the project.

I'll be honest, one reason I love doing these interviews so much is because you never know who you're going to get to talk to. I've never met Will Hunt officially, but I've been around him and have watched him play. Talking to him about his career and other things was so enjoyable! We talk about the multitude of bands he's played for including - Motley Crue, Tommy Lee's Methods of Mayhem, Dark New Day, BLS and a ton more. Now he's got another band called the Tempest Project. He tells me how that started and some familiar names in it. Oh, he also tells me about a band he's currently in with STP singer Jeff Gutt...that's for starters! Enjoy! -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

On this episode we dive in to the topic of sadism with special guest Will Hunt; Will has been part of the UK kink scene for almost two decades; running events, teaching workshops and performing at various clubs and it was great to sit with him and gain his perspective and listen to his experiences. We then return to our staple section of the 'encyclopedia of unusual sexual practices', which as ever is an odd mix of informative, entertaining and darn right confusing. Before bringing you a new section where Hands reads from a book documenting the exploits of a London based top. Is it fact, is it fiction, one thing we do know is that it's a little 'out there' but we hope you enjoy it. If you would like to know more about Will he is currently working on his first book about D/s dynamics and has a number of upcoming workshops. Dematus is a three piece melodic metal band hailing originally from Rolla, Missouri. Over the years the band has played numerous shows ranging from backyard parties to festivals from all over the country even taking part in charity events and has had extensive airplay. Now currently located in Pittsburgh they have shared the stage with Otep, Chimaira, Soulfly, Mushroomhead, Bleed The Sky, Oceano, New Year's Day, Stolen Babies, iWrestledabearonce, Soilwork, Devil You Know, and many more. It has been said that the band could best be described as Evanescence and System of a Down's illegitimate child. Passionate about stunning the crowd with her abilities and talents the band is fronted by Jessica, a wide ranging, screaming and operatic stylist. Jessica also plays lead and rhythm guitar reminiscent and inspired by the likes of 80's guitarists Randy Rhoads and Dave Mustaine, along with current guitar virtuoso John 5. In addition Jessica is classically trained flutist and is a lyricist and composer for the band. She has won several awards including The John Phillips Sousa Award and The Marine Semper Fidelis Award. On the drums, Ryan keeps the band in step with his fierce beats and is a born metronome. Although he had received classical and jazz training in his youth, Ryan's more dominant and ferocious side took over in his teens pulling him into the metal music. Able to read music, play the xylophone, timpani, and percussion instruments, he has been a long time band section leader. His talents being likened to, and inspired by, some of the all time greats such as Terry Bozzio, Carter Beauford, Neil Purt, Will Hunt, and many more. Self taught bassist, Brian, is undoubtedly the heartbeat and high energy source of the band. Having a natural ear for music, one would definitely call him a raw, yet polished, talent. As Brian would say, he doesn't play under the influence of other musicians. His goal, as a musician, is to simply reach beyond his know talents while striving to find new levels.

David speaks with Will Hunt, author of UNDERGROUND: A HUMAN HISTORY OF THE WORLDS BENEATH OUR FEET. Originally aired on March 28th 2019.
The first time I attempted to play Minecraft with my then-seven-year-old son, we immediately dug ourselves into a pit deep in the Earth and could not get out. In spite of the crappy 8-bit graphics, all of our primal, H.P. Lovecraftian terrors of the underground were activated. We were trapped! We were lost! We might die down here! Will Hunt, on the other hand, has been climbing eagerly since childhood into dank and disorienting tunnels, caves, sewers, and other underground spaces, from abandoned New York City subway platforms to ancient Mayan temples of human sacrifice in the caverns of Belize. In his brilliant new book UNDERGROUND: a Human History of the Worlds Beneath Our Feet, he takes us physically and spiritually along on some of these adventures. Part global, subterranean travelogue, part meditation on human curiosity, UNDERGROUND plumbs the philosophical depths of our primal awe of what lies beneath. . . . and it almost makes me want to go play Minecraft, where at least there are no rats. Over the weekend, I took a workshop in encaustic painting. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it's basically painting with hot wax and it's a process that's been around for literally thousands of years. The are records of the Greeks using it as far back as the 5th century BC. The process involves heating beeswax with damar resin crystals which forms what's known as “medium.” From there, you add pigment — either oil-based or dry powder — to create whatever color you're after. What first drew me to the idea of encaustic was how much faster it seemed than the acrylic process I currently use in my paintings. Some of my pieces are 15 or even 20 layers deep and when the gels are applied thick to create the impasto type of textures that I use, it can take hours or even days to dry between layers. So, it's not unusual for me to take weeks to finish a piece and, if I'm being honest, there have been several instances where I was either bored with the piece or I basically forgot where I wanted to go with it.
