About Michelle “Meeshie” Fahmy is the Los Angeles-based interior designer behind Haus of Meeshie. She was named one of Apartment Therapy's Design Changemakers, a list of “the most talented and dynamic people in the design world,” and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Apartment Therapy, Palm Springs LIfe and Tastemade Home. Michelle's work is driven by her love of connecting with clients and the creative alchemy that comes from collaborating with a diverse circle of artisans and tradespeople to bring each client's unique design dreams to life. She credits her passion for color, pattern play and art to her Egyptian background and to her father Walter Fahmy, an Impressionist/Fauvist painter and mixed media artist. This, along with her inside track into vintage sourcing and a fearlessness in mixing different eras and styles, defines the viewpoint of Haus of Meeshie: bold, eclectic and with a keen eye for artwork, but always making spaces a true reflection of the people they are designed for. Michelle's philosophy for Haus of Meeshie is to be daring, whether that means working with an unexpected pattern combination, celebrating off-the-beaten-path colors or letting an eye-catching statement piece take center stage. Her ever-growing list of design influences include Mexican architect Luis Barragan, interior designer Ken Fulk and filmmaker Wes Anderson.   She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband Aaron and their four spoiled rescue pups and kitties, where she spends her free time renovating their midcentury A-frame cabin near Yosemite, Sugar Pine Haus, and tending to their constantly evolving backyard garden.   Shownotes 4:20 The trip that changed everything 5:30 Asking the higher powers for help 6:00 Meeshie's business evolution  7:00 Working with Willa Ford 7:58 I did not go to school for this 9:35 The universe provided 10:00 Ugly crying / WIPEOUT! 11:15 Importance of your supporters / Hayley Yerington 12:40 Jumping into the fire 13:31 I knew I was in my lane 14:08 Trial by fire 16:00 You have to work hard, but not forever 17:00 White space 17:45 Level up moment  18:25 Shout out to Tricia Benitez Beanum from Pop Up Home 19:00 The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit 20:05 What it takes to get there  22:30 Burnout to balance  22:52 Shout out to Noz Nozawa Noz designs 28:00 Scaling to keep with the lifeSYTLE goals 28:30 Haus of Meeshie Vision 31:00 Navigating social media  32:00 The A Frame story 34:00 Running around the Playboy Mansion 35:00 LA design inspo  36:00 Lessons from hospitality  37:00 The ultimate dream 38:00 Trust your instinct  40:00 Stay true to who you are 40:00 Don't ask for too many opinions 40:10 Be prepared to work Where to find Meeshie INSTAGRAM //  @haus_of_meeshie WEBSITE //https://www.hausofmeeshie.com Join our community! Palm Springs is a cinematic gem that went under the radar in 2020. Released at the height of the pandemic, it's an uproariously funny time loop movie, centering on a man stuck at a miserable wedding. When said man, Niles played by Andy Sandberg, mistakenly drags a fellow guest into the unending cycle, the real fun begins. Like Groundhog Day, Palm Springs is very much about our lead characters—the aforementioned Niles and Sarah played by Cristin Milioti—discovering what's truly important in life. Their chemistry and the hijinks they get into are the driving force of the movie. Throw in an incredible supporting performance from JK Simmons as Roy, and you've got a recipe for one of the best films of 2020. Watch it! Then watch it again like it's the same day you first watched it. It's that damn good. Now, sit back, get holly and jolly with an Alpha Klaus from Three Floyd's Brewing, and be on the lookout for Roy! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, and Bling Blake are brushing up on our quantum physics to escape this desert purgatory! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – Live like there's no tomorrow! (00:00) Lingering Questions – What's our Palm Springs? (22:14) The "Trivia Springs" Challenge – Capt. Cash challenges the field to trivia about the movie. (34:08) Recommendations – We offer our picks for the week and next up: We finish off Bomb Coms by taking one last shot at love with Just Friends! (41:54) And, as always, hit us up on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram to check out all the interesting factoids—the brilliance of The Lonely Island and more—from this week's episode! In this Episode of Crue Cast, a podcast is all about the most infamous band in rock history Motley Crue! Jason talks the support Disturbed lead singer David Draiman has shown Vince Neil. DISTURBED's David Draiman has praised Vince Neil for his performances so far on MÖTLEY CRÜE's stadium tour, saying the singer is "sounding good" and "looking healthy". Neil has been receiving mixed reviews for his vocal performances on "The Stadium Tour", with one reviewer saying that he is sounding "better than he did" in 2015, and another suggesting that Neil's "vocal shortcomings" are being "largely covered by red and white lights and sheer adrenaline." A third reviewer concurred, saying that CRÜE's concerts on "The Stadium Tour" are "so loud [that] it could be hard to hear" Neil over the music, adding that "perhaps that's by design." Draiman took to his Twitter to write: "Proud of @thevinceneil . Videos I've seen of the stadium tour have been great. Sounding good, looking healthy. Good for you brother. Keep knocking em dead @MotleyCrue". One musician who agreed with Draiman was RATT singer Stephen Pearcy, who responded to David's tweet. "Agree, brother @thevinceneil @MotleyCrue still kickin' ass!" he wrote. "Still doing what we've always done (we're gladiators, what works for us might not seem right for everyone) who else has been singing, screamin, yellin at people for 35 plus yrs. Not an easy job, its a dirty job." A short time later, Draiman wrote in response to Pearcy: "If it were easy…everyone would do it (maybe not lol). Gotta keep that torch raised high". On July 6, Draiman took to his Twitter to write: "All you parasitic vultures pretending to be journalists who broke the 'big story' that Vince Neil/ @MotleyCrue uses a teleprompter onstage should really find a new line of work. SO FUCKING WHAT? Most artists with extensive catalogs do. Leave the guy alone FFS." Back in 2016, Neil was asked in an interview with Palm Springs Life how he "still hits those higher registers" after all these years and what he does to keep his voice in shape. He responded: "I have an old road singer/saloon singer mentality. I love performing; that's what I do. I'm thrilled to be there, and I've done it so much. Younger, up-and-coming singers will say, 'Hey, Mr. Neil, what do you do?' And I say, 'Don't do what I do, for God's sake!' I go in a bathroom, and [yells], 'Hey! Heyyyyy!!!' I scream. Even the guys in [my solo] band go, 'What the fuck?' I do the worst thing you probably should, but it works for me. Everybody has a thing that works for them — but what I do for myself, I wouldn't suggest." He continued: "It's been bulletproof over the years. Everybody gets sick sometimes and gets laryngitis, but I've been pretty lucky, especially in that higher-register stuff. And we don't back away from it. It's exactly where all the original tunings were. I understand a lot of people don't want to do that, but if someone calls something out, I go, Fuck it! Let's do it!'" Thank you for listening to Crue Cast!

Creating and Growing Strand Boards Episode Highlights: Strong relationships starts with strong customer service and attention to detail. Everyone relationship, whether with a vendor, customer, or production partner is treated equally. Your team around you needs to be just as strong as you, in order to be successful. Growing pains are a real thing (bigger space, more staff, the right team, cash flow). Talk to people about what has worked for them, don’t create new models that already exist and work. If you are looking to do your own thing, ask questions in and out of your industry. Hansni Thadhani With three children, under the age of 5 at the time, Strand Boards founder and Manhattan Beach resident, Hansni Thadhani wanted a place for her family to wash off after a day at the beach. She didn’t want anything dull or boring and thought, “we live by the beach; a surfboard shower must exist!?” Hansni looked online but she didn't find any surfboard showers that she liked, looks or quality wise. A designer at heart, and a lover of the ocean, Hansni had the idea to go to a local surf shop, have a surfboard made and she figured out how to integrate the plumbing inside of the board. When friends of hers saw the surfboard shower in her family’s backyard, they would say, “that is awesome, I need one!” And Strand Boards was born! Strand Boards has been featured on the Today show as a, "must have summer gadget,” an "Editor’s Pick" in Palm Springs Life’s Home + Design Magazine and a, featured, “Best of O.C.” by Modern Luxury Orange County, to name a few. The customization offered on each surfboard product is paramount. In addition to the uniqueness of a shower made out of a surfboard, Strand Boards also manufactures chandeliers, benches and the tables, all out of actual surfboards! Whether it be for a residence or a hotel, these unique items are something people appreciate and love. Strand Boards was born out of a need. Hansni Thadhani’s entrepreneurial mind realized that others like her would love to bring these coastal living accessories with a purpose to their residence or business. Fulfilling her dreams and using her business sense, the love of the ocean, her sales background, and design experience all gave her the perfect platform to take Strand Boards global! In her high school days, Sandra had an interest in the printing process. She landed her first job at a printing press during high school, which eventually lead to an 18 year career in the industry. Looking for a change, she enrolled in college, taking classes in graphic design, allowing her to see how what came to press was created.    Sandra's interest in photography started with watching the images develop from her dad's Polaroid camera. With a camera of her own, Sandra found she could get lost in nature, melding into the scenes of seagulls and flowers, even sensing communication with them without saying a word. She'd take off in the morning with her camera and be gone for hours.  On her website, Sandra offers photography and graphic design services. Her photographs have been published, in print and online, by the Hi-Desert Star, LA Yoga Magazine, Vice.com, Palm Springs Life, Coachella Weekly, Lulumag.com and many more.   In this episode, Sandra talks about a trip to the desert that brought her to healing. What was to be a four-day visit at the desert home of friends, turned into weeks after connecting with a printed, framed affirmation (below) displayed at her friends home. The affirmation was from Louise Hay (who wrote 'You Can Heal Your Life')and sent Sandra on a journey to connect with being true to herself and loving herself. If you're looking to really connect with who you are and tamp down the negative voices with positive vibes, Sandra recommends self-help books, music, podcasts and getting outside in nature.     I Love Myself Affirmation Louise Hay   Deep at the center of my being, there is an infinite well of love. I now allow this love to flow to the surface. It fills my heart, my body, my mind, my consciousness, my very being and radiates out from me in all directions and returns to me multiplied.   The more love I use and give, the more I have to give. The supply is endless. The use of love makes me feel good, it is an expression of my inner joy.   I love myself; therefore, I take loving care of my body. I lovingly feed you nourishing foods and beverages, I lovingly groom you and dress you, and you lovingly responds to me with vibrant health and energy.   I love myself; therefore, I provide for myself this comfortable home, one that fills all my needs and is a pleasure to be in. I fill the rooms with the vibration of love so that all who enter, myself included, will feel this love and be nourished by it.   I love myself; therefore I work at a job I truly enjoy doing, one that uses my creative talents and abilities, working with and for people I love and who love me and earning a good income.   I love myself; therefore, I behave and think in a loving way to all people for I know that that which I give out returns to me multiplied. I only attract loving people in my world, for they are a mirror of who I am.   I love myself; therefore I forgive and totally release the past and all past experiences and I am free.   I love myself; therefore I live totally in the now, experiencing each moment as good and knowing that my future is bright, joyous and secure, for I am a beloved child of Divine Mother and Divine Mother lovingly takes care of me now and forever more.   And so it is...I love you

Download Episode! A Stolen Paradise, The True Story About the Making of the Night of the Iguana. An Interview with Author Howard Johns Hello fellow travelers, welcome this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler and I am just so happy to be to [caption id="attachment_754" align="alignright" width="199"] A Stolen Paradise by Howard Johns[/caption] introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. That music you were just listing to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa group of restaurants,  La Palapa and The Eldorado Restaurant on the Southside of town, right down on the beach in Puerto Vallarta and if you play your cards right you can catch Alberto Perez singing and playing the Samba de Puerto Vallarta and more lovely tunes while enjoying dinner under the stars, toes in the sand at the waters edge. So romantic, so Puerto Vallarta. [caption id="attachment_399" align="alignright" width="300"] ATM Machines in Lobby of the Puerto Vallarta Airport[/caption] Now before we get into this interview, I want to do a little housekeeping. First, as of a couple of days ago, and this podcast was recorded and produced February 26, 2017,  here at the Puerto Vallarta airport, the bank ATM machines have been removed from the lobby where you buy your taxi cab transfers. Now people here on the ground are of the opinion that this is a temporary situation, at least until they are done with the remodel of the airport or sooner. I will keep you advised as to when they re-appear. Until then, bring some pesos from home, either from your bank or a money exchange near you. Or just buy your taxi voucher using your very own funny money and get to an Bank attached and affiliated ATM when you get a chance later. For more ideas on exchanging money just go to episode 2 of the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show. Next, I have added a new page to the website and I’m very excited about this, it has all of the best Webcams in Puerto Vallarta. Some of these cameras are great for watching a sunset right from your Barcalounger at home so go to www.puertovallartatravelshow.com and click the webcam tab and catch your Puerto Vallarta sunset today and if you have a favorite webcam that I have missed, just send me a link and I will add it for you. The more the merrier right? Click Here to Learn To Count to 100 in Spanish   Next, in the last episode I talked a little about learning the language about learning Spanish and how to count to one hundred in Spanish. I forgot to mention that if you go to my website and check the shownotes to the last episode, I have a link to a site where you will learn to count to 100 in Spanish. It’s easy it’s free and you will find it by going to www.Puertovallartatravelshow.com , the episode with JR about the customs and the people of Puerto Vallarta. Lastly, I have the new prices for the Federal Airport taxis leaving the airport to your hotel or resort or condo and I will give you that info after [caption id="attachment_400" align="alignright" width="300"] Taxi Pay Window in the Puerto Vallarta Airport[/caption] my interview with Author Howard Johns, which I’ going to get right into now. [caption id="attachment_755" align="alignleft" width="251"] Howard Johns, Author[/caption]     Most people know that Puerto Vallarta was put on the map by those folks in Hollywood. The filming of the Night of the Iguana turned this once tiny little fishing village into a jet-setter destination. And since this is a podcast about Puerto Vallarta, I would be remiss If I were to ignore this large piece of the historic puzzle of this place Puerto Vallarta. So naturally I reached out to my next guest. Howard is the author of the soon to be released book A Stolen Paradise, The True Story About the Making of the Night of the Iguana. Howard Johns is a film historian, author and television personality from Palm Springs, California. In 2004, he wrote the bestselling nonfiction [caption id="attachment_757" align="alignright" width="150"] Palm Springs Confidential[/caption] book Palm Springs Confidential: Playground of the Stars (Barricade Books), which sold out through three printings. Two years later, Johns published the scandalous follow-up Hollywood Celebrity Playground with similar success.   Howard Johns has been interviewed on numerous TV news broadcasts and documentary programs, discussing the lives and deaths of celebrities. He first gained widespread recognition as a producer for NBCs live coverage of the funeral of Congressman Sonny Bono. Howard has met and interviewed such stars as Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Kirk Douglas, Stefanie Powers, George Hamilton, and Suzanne Somers. He also has been featured on such top-rated network programs as Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, and Hard Copy. So without any further ado, let’s go to my apartment in Puerto Vallarta, just two blocks from Casa Kimberly, the famous home of Elizabeth Taylor and we’ll talk about the filming of the night of the Iguana and more with Author Howard Johns. The Characters These 7 Color Photos Used with Permission From the Author [caption id="attachment_766" align="alignleft" width="233"] Tennessee Williams[/caption] [caption id="attachment_760" align="alignleft" width="243"] Ava Gardner[/caption] [caption id="attachment_761" align="alignleft" width="231"] Deborah Kerr[/caption] [caption id="attachment_762" align="alignleft" width="257"] Elizabeth Taylor[/caption] [caption id="attachment_763" align="alignleft" width="242"] John Huston[/caption] [caption id="attachment_764" align="alignleft" width="256"] Richard Burton[/caption] [caption id="attachment_768" align="alignleft" width="235"] Sue Lyon[/caption] Listen to the Podcast   That was a fun interview wasn’t it? I can’t wait for the book to come out. Waiting, Waiting, Waiting… For more information about Howard Johns, you will find his Bio and links to his website at the bottom of this blog post.  Okay, back to the new federal taxi rates from the airport to a resort near you, here they are. Until then, remember, this is an interactive show where I depend on your questions and suggestions about all things Puerto Vallarta. If you think of something I should be talking about, please reach out to me by clicking on the Contact us tab and sending us your message.   And remember, if you are considering booking any type of tour while you are in Puerto Vallarta, you must go to Vallartainfo.com, JR’s website and reserve your tour through him, right from his website. Remember the value for value proposition. His experience and on the ground knowledge of everything Puerto Vallarta in exchange for your making a purchase of a tour that you would do anyway, you’re just doing it through him as a way of saying thank you. It costs no more than if you were to use someone else so do it. Really. And when you do take one of these tours, email me about your experiences. Maybe you can come onboard and share with others what you liked or didn’t like about the tour. Again contact me by clicking on the Contact us tab and sending off a message. And one more favor please, if you like this podcast, please take the time and subscribe and give me a good review on iTunes if you would. That way we can get the word out to more and more people about the magic of this place. So, thanks to you for listening all the way through this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show.
