Be realistic- Keep it real about what you can do in a day, who you are, if things go wrong, stay the course, don’t go ballistic and smash your day with a hammer. No matter how much you want things to go a certain way, just readjust. Do it now- (Compliments of Kelly Gordon on the SortaAwesome Podcast and Gretchen Rubin on the Happier podcast) Sounds legalistic, but if it takes less than a minute, do it before it stresses you out, return that library book, bring that diaper to the trash or that glass to the sink.Remember your season- They change, they always always change and remembering what season of life you’re working through normalizes a lot of struggle.Be kind to yourself- Ask yourself what the kind decision would be and don’t be so harsh on yourself. Kid birthdays come with a whole mess of feels!Interview with Dr Jason VanderlugtWhat kind of illnesses are we seeing right now? Fall can be a weird time because we get the tail end of summer summer bugs, but we aren't quite full into upper respiratory issues. How can we prevent illness with our kids? There's an interesting thing called the Hygiene Hypothesis, which says kids are supposed to get sick in the winter months to help their immune systems. The more we sanitize and protect them the more their immune systems go haywire with allergies and autoimmune diseases. BUT always wash your hands and try to confine stomach flu sufferers to their own separate bathroom.Dr Jason's Thoughts on essential oils and probiotics- They haven't been widely studied, but aren't generally harmful. Be careful with certain essential oils around kids, not everything natural is safe for everyone. Cold and Flu Treatment Tips- Push fluids, use a humidifier for congested patients and try Zinc at the outset of the cold. Overall just GET YOUR FLU SHOT! A Teaspoon of honey has been proven to help with overnight coughing. But What about peanut butter? When should we introduce it? Generally earlier introduction is okay, if you have a family history of peanut allergies you should make a plan with your pediatrician for safe introduction. That's a wrap for us this week!
