The video of this episode is at https://brucechalmer.com/can-you-forgive-rape/ . What are the limits of forgiveness? Can you forgive even the worst sort of violations? I (Bruce) have worked with many people who are struggling with this question. In part, it depends on what you mean by “forgive.” Does forgiveness have to imply that you'll try to restore your relationship? Or might you forgive someone, but still not trust them? Could you see forgiveness as getting the poison out of you? Ann Lamott famously noted that not forgiving someone is like drinking rat poison and waiting for the rat to die. Along the way, we also talk about people getting canceled, trigger warnings, microaggressions—basically, a lot of stuff that might generate angry emails. Try to be kind, don't panic, and have faith (our seven words) as you respond. Do you have ideas for topics or guests for our podcast? Go to https://ctin7.com and send us a message. We're covering two different topics from Ann Lamott's book Bird by Bird. First off is scene setting, both their importance for your characters and how to get all the details right (quick answer, ask an expert) Then we're back to finding out what your story is about, how to return to a scene or chapter again and again (and again) until you can finally say, “Yes, that is how it needs to be written.”Also, following up on last week's episode about character verses plot driven stories, we talk to three genre writers about their approach. No matter what Little Bird Momma and CEO, Priscilla McKinney, and Executive VP, Ashley Le Blanc do, they somehow end up writing. If you're working on writing posts on LinkedIn, blogs or books, get ready for four applicable tips from these seasoned veterans to make writing that much easier for you. You know Priscilla is a straight shooter who doesn't shy away from tackling the big issues. In this episode, she delves into the world of ChatGPT, OpenAI, and the impact of NLP and NLG on business and branding. While she sees the potential for these tools to revolutionize the way we work, she also highlights some key concerns. For example, the lack of SEO integration in these systems can harm your online visibility, and using the same generated content as others can lead to plagiarism and a drop in page ranking. Additionally, the impersonal nature of these tools can detract from your brand's unique voice and style, and raises questions about the impact on thought leadership. Tune in to hear Priscilla's candid take on these cutting-edge technologies. Enough about ChatGPT and AI already? On to the tips! Allow yourself the gift of the shitty first draft (SFD) as coined by Ann Lamott. Have you ever heard of the SFD? That shitty first draft is exactly what you need to write to beat procrastination and beat perfectionism. Perfectionism is the leading cause of writers' block and it's the enemy of writers! Don't keep waiting for inspiration. If you wait for the day that grand ol' magnificent and majestic inspiration pays a visit, you might be waiting for a long time. Waiting a long time means wasting a lot of time. Try to draw inspiration from your everyday experiences, from the mundane, from your drive to work and from your sock drawer! You make inspiration happen. Outwrite self-doubt. What if you just started calling yourself a writer? What if you started writing every day? Rather than basking in another self-doubt party, where it's just you and a blank page… write, write, and write some more. Don't be boring. Be creative. Be descriptive. See the world with new eyes. Try to describe things in such great staggering detail that your words come to life on the page. And then, after your first few drafts, we're sure you'll be cutting nearly half of all your descriptions, but still. It's worth spending time noodling over the descriptions and breathing life into your words. Marketing and content marketing is complicated. That's why you need a system. Have you heard about our SOAR system and even about our SOAR DIY offerings? Consider it the ultimate flight plan. What's next for you? For business professionals, mastering social media is no longer a “nice to have” set of skills, but a fundamental need in order to advance your career. You need an effective and proven system to move from social selling all the way to digital dominance. Learn more here. Emilia Nagy is an intuitive yet practical Love, Relationship and Dating Coach who can see deep into the soul layers of who you are and work with you in a playful and compassionate way to move through to your next (or first) miracle. She is a Master Coach trained by many masters including Alison Armstrong, Harv Ecker, Blackfoot and Apache Elders, and a consortium of spiritual guides. She is in rapture for the Holy spirit, artist, Flamenco singer, mother, wife, minister, sound healer, and level II Reiki healer.Emilia's Soul comes from a long lineage of healers from the Sirius Star system who use the vibration of sound for healing and soul activation. Her soul is devoted to activating sacred partnership between feminine and masculine on Mother Earth at this time. She is here on a mission to help humanity awaken into our sovereign creative power, re-claim our cosmic heritage and restore our rightful place within the galaxy as the supernatural galactic citizens we once were. She grew up in communist Bulgaria in a narcissistic family system. This was a common way to raise families in Bulgaria as the influence of communism was humiliation, degradation and suppression of personal freedoms and rights. It was a difficult childhood with emigration, family separation and severe emotional trauma that had Emilia contemplating suicide at age 12.After moving to San Diego in 2002, Emilia enjoyed a 6-figure real state career. However, despite all of the financial abundance and success, Emilia was deeply lonely. She had a hard time making friends and developing deep and lasting connections. She wanted a child and a family but she kept attracting the wrong men.During this time, Emilia also became ill. She had contracted a parasitic infection while traveling in Panama and combined with what she later learned were CPTSD symptoms from prolonged emotional and psychological abuse, she suffered from anxiety, depression, insomnia, irritable bowels syndrome, fatigue, fibromyalgia and PCOS.For many years Emilia had deep, repressed rage about her life story. She wanted to share her story but she did not want to “expose” those in her life that were responsible for her suffering. Miraculously, one day she discovered a quote that turned her life around: “You own everything that happened to you. Tell your story. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better” by Ann Lamott.Soon after, she decided to own her past trauma and began writing about narcissism and narcissistic abuse. She started leading Narcissistic abuse recovery meetings through meetup in 2015 and quickly the meetup grew to thousands of people across California. She became a Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Expert sought by therapists and people of all walks of life. And, when it came to true love…..She found it in the arms of a strong, gentle and kind man, Emil. They have a daughter now, Alessandra who is 6 yrs old and they couldn't be happier.Emilia is passionate about helping women achieve the unconditional love they crave and know they can return, deep in the heart. That miraculous love within that does not have to be earned but graciously received. Or may we all be in such a state of grace that we may receive this love miracle. And that's exactly what she helps you do.She is honored in her work as a coach, to get to see women go from a place of pain and struggle to a place of power and inner joy.She supports her students and clients address their deep-seated issues regarding their inability to feel love within themselves and move on to a more enjoyable life, with respectful, healthy empowering relationships. She helps women connect to their creativity by facilitating sacred space for a deep inner vision, healing of wounds, injuries, and dishonor, claiming their sovereign creative power and dating discerningly for a true loving partnership.
How can we decide where to use the limited amount of energy we have in a day? The demand is greater than the supply…how does one decide? Rob and Tricia share the ideas they have heard (or thought up) for managing energy, time, and creativity—all three of which compete for the highest priority on any given day. A question for conversation: “What do you have in your home, office or car, that is something you’ll never use again, and yet you cannot part with it?” –Tricia Quotes “May I be in charge of the non-essentials? The things that don’t matter? You know—the things that, if they don’t get done, no one will notice?” —Tricia, on the occasional responsibility that goes with having children who do lots of things: the expectation that parents will serve on committees! “What is the one thing, such that by doing it, makes everything else easier or unnecessary?” –Rob “The ‘fun’ thinking creates problems—vision casting, looking forward into the future, that’s all ‘fun’ thinking. But you can’t have too much of the fun thinking without following through with the ‘hard’ thinking—that is, asking yourself, 'now, how am I going to do it?'”—Rob “I read to inhale; I write to exhale.” –Tricia “Give your best, your all, to the project you have right now. If you give the best you have right now, there will always be more.” –Ann Lamott, quoted by Tricia “The best moments in reading are when you come across something—a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things that you thought special, particular to you, and here it is—set down by someone else, a person you’ve never met. Maybe even someone long dead. And it’s as if a hand has come out and taken yours.” –The History Boys Let’s Talk Soon is honored to promote our sponsor for this episode, Heyer Expectations, an executive recruiting company. The devotion for today, Thursday, May 7 was written by Dr. Pat Saxon and is narrated by Beth Wilson. Today's Words of Inspiration come from: I asked for prayers for the soul of my brother Kit, and stood in the midst [of the congregation] shaking with tears. They held their palms like light wings over my back and shoulders. Anne rubbed the oil that smelled of rosemary into my forehead, and made the sign of the cross over all of us. Breathe on us. (Nora Gallagher) Help. Help us walk through this. Help us come through. It is the first great prayer. (Ann Lamott)

“Ann Lamott once wrote, ‘The grace of age is radical self-acceptance.' Life is messy and we human creatures are messy. Life isn't about eliminating the mess; it's about embracing the mess.” In Episode 16 of The Loveable Podcast, we focus on accepting our messy selves by first accepting the chaos of everyday living.
