Listeners of Genuine Girl that love the show mention: meredith,So, if you happen to read this before listening to the episode, let me just warn you... I get a little fiesty. Not angry, just a littleee annoyed... And no, I wasn't planning on it, but I guess this topic digs deep for me! Today I'm talking about how I'm learning to budget as I enter this new phase of life - out of college, into the real world. Specifically, I talk about one mindset shift I've had to make regarding my priorities in life (aka how I'm trying to find confidence in my priorities rather than letting others' opinions on my financial decisions bring me down). I hope that this episode can be helpful to you if you're also starting out life on your own, trying to budget, and stressing out about what your priorities really are. You are not alone! We're getting real today about dreams! I know, it sounds woo-woo, but I've been seriously reflecting on my own dreams lately and have had a few heart-to-heart convos with myself as I realize... I haven't actually been taking the actions that I need to take in order to reach my dreams! Fears and risks are holding me back, becoming greater than the dreams themselves. Today, I talk through these convos I've had with my own brain and share my new outlook on my dream life. Hopefully this can inspire you to stop letting those fears overtake you and your dreams! This week's episode is dedicated to a new branch of the Genuine Girl brand: my Etsy shop! This space holds all the resources that either I have created to help myself through some of life's tough transitions or I WISH I had access to when I was struggling in the past. In this episode, I chat through my motivation for starting an Etsy shop, my process for creating it, and the types of products you can expect to find - ranging from self-discovery documents to career hunting worksheets to post-grad budgeting and more! I hope that you can find something that helps you, and if not, share it with a friend who may benefit! Since graduating, I've had more time to really think about what I want in life. I know it sounds deep, but when I really sit back and think about it, I realize that I've never allowed myself to truly understand what I want in my life and what makes me happy because I've focused for so long on what I "have" to do to get ahead, succeed, achieve, etc... As I enter this new phase of life, I want to be very intentional about setting myself up for success - not just through achieving things, but also by living a life that incorporates things I want, like, and enjoy! Because I know that living a life that is true to me and that incorporates a lot of things I want/like would be an achievement in itself. :) If you find yourself in a similar spot of not exactly knowing what you want, or feeling a little stuck/lost in life but not really knowing why that is, then I encourage you to check out this episode! I dive into my struggles with finding what I want along with some tangible ways I have started exploring my true desires in life. I'm gonna be honest - I've had this episode recorded for a couple weeks and have been too nervous to post it until now. I mean, who am I to be stressed out when I am living a life that many would love to have? I graduated, I have a "summer" break before I start working, I'm living in my new place, and I have seemingly all the time in the world to do fun stuff and relax (sort of...) Yet, I'm still over here stressing myself out about everything! And by everything, I mean that even the tiniest task I want to accomplish (including fun stuff, like shopping or working out,) instantly gets categorized by my brain as "a reason to be stressed." I am seriously using the strangest rationale for my stress too, like "Meredith, if you go shopping for 2 hours, you're taking time away from working on your brand, studying for the exam you have to take before you start your job, making extra money, and being successful. Therefore, you are behind in life." Okay, now I'm ranting, but see how crazy that sounds? Yeah, that's what it can be like living inside my brain! I know it's crazy and unrealistic to be thinking that I am suddenly behind in life if I go shopping for 2 hours... but this type of thinking has unfortunately become a habit, after years of school created those thought patterns in me. I recognize that, and I want to change it, so I made this episode to share how my brain has REALLY been acting in response to these big life changes AND how I'm trying to turn my bad habit around to start enjoying life a little more! This just goes to show that even if I do all the things to get involved (like I talked about in my last episode) and have my life perfectly lined up on paper, if I don't work on improving my daily, habitual thoughts and reactions to everything around me, then it'll be hard to truly enjoy life and be myself. And no, I am not really proofreading what I'm writing right now, so I'm just gonna hope that makes some kind of sense. Thanks for reading, and hope you'll give this episode a listen. :) Follow me on Instagram! @_genuinegirl_ Be sure to rate 5 stars & review the podcast if you enjoyed! In this week's episode, I talk all about my #1 goal of creating a work-life balance for myself in this new phase of my life... and how I'm starting to work toward it! I share a list of activities that I'm getting involved in before I start working to build positive habits, how I'm feeling as I work toward balance (hint: it is very out of my comfort zone), and a few things that have helped make achieving balance a bit easier. Hope this reminds you that you aren't alone and inspires you to remember the importance of work-life balance in your own life! Welcome back to Genuine Girl! In this episode, I debrief on the past couple weeks of my life, in which pretty much everything has changed... From graduation to moving into my first real, unfurnished, "adult" apartment, there has been a lot of change happening! On that note, I discuss my experience apartment hunting/decorating and provide a few tangible tips that helped me feel a little less overwhelmed and stressed through the process. If you are or will be going through a similar experience, let this episode reassure you that you are not alone! Genuine Girl is back! After a long hiatus, I am so excited to be back making podcast episodes. Genuine Girl has been with me since the beginning of college, and now that I'm a senior who is about to graduate, I figured it was time for my brand to grow with me. I'm about to enter a very big transitional phase of my life - graduating college, moving states, starting a job, and entering the "real world" - and I want to be real about every step of the journey. I know that this time in life can be filled with so many emotions, from excitement to stress to uncertainty and everything in between... So, if you're in a similar spot and want a friend who will be there with you every step of the way, you've got me! :) Stay tuned for more episodes about all things post-grad in the coming weeks/months/years. So excited to be back with you! Follow me on Instagram! @genuinegirlco & Don't forget to rate/review this podcast if you enjoyed it!

Hello my friends! This week's podcast episode is all about those beginning-of-the-week feelings we all tend to experience… The stress, dread, and sadness that can come with the beginning of a new week and thoughts of what lies ahead. Of course, no one WANTS to spend their Sundays in misery, but it's an unfortunate reality for many of us. I've been there - and I'm sometimes still there - but I wanted to share what I've been doing to try and flip that negative mindset into a positive, productive one that sets me up for a successful week. From meal prepping to reading good books, I am really trying to make the most of my Sundays rather than letting them control me! Hopefully this episode is relatable in the sense that you aren't alone if you experience negative thoughts at the beginning of the week, but also inspiring in that it gives you the courage to make a change for the better! I'd love to hear any tips you have for making the most of your Sundays - reach out and let's start a conversation! Remember, you got this! Have a great week! :) Follow me on Instagram: www.instagram.com/missgenuinegirl Follow me on Facebook: www.facebook.com/missgenuinegirl Subscribe to my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCOZxwsPUrLXtKS2Ywl_kFqg Check out my book, Practice Makes Imperfect: www.amazon.com/dp/B08DSTHRTM
Hey there - long time no talk! Since my last episode, a LOT has been going on, so I wanted to give everyone a quick life update and let you know where I've been, what I'm up to, and how I'm trying to adjust to a new schedule at home and away from college. If you're trying to get into a summer routine, hopefully this episode can give you some tips to do so - or at least give you the reassurance that you're not alone. This summer I hope to make more fun, genuine content, so let me know what you think and if there's anything you want to see! Thanks so much for tuning in and for your patience with me. Until next time!
In Meredith's second episode back from her extended break, she's diving into a topic that no one necessarily LIKES talking about, but someone HAS to talk about it... and Meredith feels like the perfect candidate given how much studying for finals has been taking over her life recently. Okay, maybe that was dramatic, but regardless, today's episode is focused on how Meredith is attempting to stay sane and healthy during final exams. She dives into some struggles she has been facing with studying, realizations she has had about finals and life in general, and shares some of the things she is trying NOT to do when preparing for finals based on past experiences. Hopefully this can be a relatable, entertaining, and maybe even insightful episode for all you girls out there who are going into finals yourselves. Welcome to episode 2 in my “Figuring Out Fashion” series, where I am embarking on a “style transformation” as I enter a new semester at college. This week, I’m moving forward from my past fashion traumas (see last week’s episode if you’re confused by what I mean…) In other words, today I’m actually talking about what I’m doing to change my style - like, what? Actually focusing on the purpose of this series? I know, wild for someone like me who spends most of my episodes rambling out pointless information. In all seriousness, today’s episode is an honest reflection of what I’ve been doing these past few weeks to up-level my style and CONFIDENCE in how I look - both at home and on the go. I start with a discussion about the small actions I’ve taken toward the wardrobe I already have (i.e. cleaning out my closet and re-styling current pieces I own,) followed by some honest truths about my shopping habits. Overall, I want to show you how I’ve been trying to transform my style both through the clothes I already own AND new outfits I’m buying. Get ready for next episode—the series finale—where I’ll talk about what has actually come out of this whole “style transformation!” Was it worth the effort? Do I feel better about myself? Are other people noticing? You gotta stick around to find out… :) Have a great week—maybe clean out your closet… But still have a great week! ;) See you next time! Welcome to a brand new podcast series: Figuring Out Fashion! In this series, you guessed it, I'm going to be attempting to get my fashion sense in order. Especially in the past year, I've really strayed away from a style that makes me feel confident, but my relationship with fashion has had its ups and downs my entire life. So that's what we're talking about in today's episode: the history of my style (from elementary and middle school to high school and college), why I've found it difficult to dress how I really want, and why I think we ALL struggle with finding a unique style when it's so easy to conform to what everyone else is wearing. This introductory episode is more of me venting about my problems than anything else, but sometimes we all need a good rant, right? Next episode, I'll start getting into the real journey of transforming my style, so get ready and come along with me if your style is in need of a boost! :) If you enjoy the podcast and want to stay in touch, here's how: Visit my website: www.missgenuinegirl.com Follow me on Instagram: www.instagram.com/missgenuinegirl Follow me on Facebook: www.facebook.com/missgenuinegirl Subscribe to my YouTube channel (where you can WATCH this podcast!): www.youtube.com/channel/UCOZxwsPUrLXtKS2Ywl_kFqg Check out my book, Practice Makes Imperfect: www.amazon.com/dp/B08DSTHRTM
Welcome back to episode 2 in my New Year, Same Struggles series, where I'm sharing all the areas in which I DON'T have my life figured out going into the new year, along with how I'm trying to figure out my life a little bit more in 2021. Last week, you got a general look into what I want to get out of the year with my word of the year; this week we're diving deeper into how I'm specifically going to PLAN my life out this year to manifest my word and my goals. I'll be talking about why I believe in planning, what type of planner I use (digital vs. paper), what criteria I had when planner shopping, and how I'm using my planner to its fullest potential. Whether you're a planner nerd like I am or have never planned a day in your life, I encourage you to take a listen so that you can be reminded of the power of planning! It's an art that I feel is helping me figure out my life, and hopefully it can do the same for you. Welcome to the first podcast series of 2021: New Year, Same Struggles! While most people like to be positive and use the phrase, "New Year, New Me," I have to admit that a new me doesn't magically appear with a new year. That's why this series is all about acknowledging the struggle of trying to figure out my life in the New Years season, while also sharing some techniques I'm using to (hopefully) set myself up for success this year. I start out the series by discussing why I'm moving away from setting concrete New Years resolutions, describing the "word" strategy that I've used for the last year, and sharing what my word for 2021 is. But that's not all! I want to challenge you to choose a word for yourself too. That's not to say you can't have resolutions, but I want you to see the power that can come with setting a word as your intention in all areas of your life. I think it will help you achieve any goals/resolutions you have while making you feel like you maybe have your life a little more figured out by the end of the year! And ultimately, that's what we all want, right? So, if you want to accept my challenge and join me in choosing a word for the year, follow me on Instagram @missgenuinegirl! I'll be posting about my word while allowing you to share your word and get inspired by others. Plus, I'll do my best to post accountability updates where we can check in and see how we're all doing with our words as the year goes by. Of course, you can get a ton of other fun content on my Instagram as well, from glimpses into my daily life to inspirational quotes that can keep you going. Welcome back to the Let Me Figure Out My Life Real Quick Podcast! We have made it to the final episode in my dating app series, where I attempt to figure out my life in the world of relationships by taking a step outside my comfort zone and trying dating apps. We've already discussed why I'm doing this and what my first impressions of guys have been based on their profiles, so now it's time to dive into the actual conversations I've been having. I begin the episode by talking about the expectations I set on myself and others when having conversations on these apps, followed by examples of some conversations that... well... haven't exactly lined up with my expectations. From jaw-dropping openers to clear red flags and words that I would NEVER say to someone I just met, get ready to hear about some interesting interactions that might make you lose a little bit of faith in humanity... Or maybe inspire you to do better, if you're trying to stay positive. Of course, because this is the final episode of the series, I conclude with my final thoughts on dating apps. Despite the bad conversations, have I made meaningful connections with people? Will I continue using the apps? What have I gotten out of them? You'll have to listen to find out... I hope you've enjoyed listening to this series as much as I've enjoyed making it! Tune in next time for the start of a brand new series, where I'll attempt to figure out another area of life in which I'm struggling and put it on the internet for the world to see. Welcome back to the dating app series, where I'm trying to figure out my love life by using dating apps for the first time! Let's just say that this episode is JUICY, because we're diving straight into what's arguably one of the most important features of dating apps: profiles. I'm about to get real with all the guys out there and give my honest thoughts on their profiles - specifically what guys do WRONG when creating profiles and how they can improve (in my opinion). There are some major red flags and no-no's that make me instantly swipe left, but you'll have to listen to find out what these are. Girls, hopefully you can relate to my struggles of swiping through profiles, and guys, hopefully you can listen to this and learn a thing or two to make your profile stand out. While I typically try to stay positive and optimistic on my podcast, I'm warning you now that this subject fires me up a little bit... This might not be the Meredith you're used to hearing, but I hope this episode is a wake-up call to some of the guys out there and can help everyone see why it's so hard for me to find connections on these apps. Simply put, I have NOT figured out my love life yet, and unless these profiles change, I might never figure out my life through dating apps... Enjoy the episode, and don't forget to tune in next week for the final episode in my dating app series, where I'll be moving past the profiles and talking about actual conversations I've been having, followed by my takeaways and final thoughts on the world of online dating. Hey there, and welcome to Let Me Figure Out My Life Real Quick! Yep, that's right, this is the start of my NEW podcast, and the content you're about to get is different than anything I've ever created... To the listeners of my previous podcast, A Genuine Girl, rest assured that I'm still the same Meredith I've always been! But I'm tired of showing only the serious, wannabe-inspirational side of me. To be honest, it became hard to keep up with only sharing learning experiences, takeaways, and motivational messages all the time... Those were all true to me, but a point came when I ran out of lessons to share. After all, I'm a twenty-something college student and have barely been through enough life to really know what I'm talking about. That's why it's time to flip the switch. Instead of sharing all that I have been through in my past, I'm going to share what I'm going through RIGHT NOW and take you on the ride as I attempt to solve my life problems in the span of 30-minute podcast episodes. Unfortunately, there's a LOT that I have yet to figure out, and not much of it can be figured out really quickly... Each week, join me as I tackle a problem area I'm facing in my life as I grow up, get through school, and try to find my way. Each episode will be part of a larger series - because let's be honest, I'm gonna need some time to figure out every area of my life. You're invited to not only listen, but also to join me and be my buddy or accountability partner! We're starting off the podcast with a topic I've never talked about online... Dating apps. In this fun and lighthearted episode, I get into the specifics of my past when it comes to relationships and dating, why I decided to try dating apps, which ones I'm using, and my first impressions of each. Next episode, get ready for a deeper dive into dating apps, where I'll specifically be talking about my profile and giving all those guys out there some SERIOUS profile tips. Hi everyone, and thanks so much for tuning into today's episode! I don't know about you, but I'm getting to the point in the semester where things are turning even crazier than usual... From tests to group projects to extracurricular obligations, it's tough to find time to take care of everything in my life - including myself! One of the first areas that I've abandoned when times get tough has always been my eating habits, but I'm not letting that happen this year! In today's episode, I talk a little about my experience with healthy eating (and not-so-healthy eating) in college, and then give you some tips and habits that have helped me create a balanced lifestyle for myself! This doesn't mean eating perfectly healthy every day, but rather PLANNING what I'm eating and focusing on maintaining BALANCE in my life. If you're looking to do the same, then this is the episode for you! As promised, below are a few links to some of my favorite healthy recipe sites. If you try any of them out, let me know what you think! (Yes, a lot of them are mom/middle-aged blogger ladies... yes, these are the people who I follow on the internet. Hey friends! In this week's episode, I sit down to give a little life update and talk about how I'm trying to navigate all the changes happening in my world and the world in general. It's easy to get stuck in our ways and listen to our "old self" trying to keep us where we're comfortable, even if that means foregoing the opportunity to accept and embrace who we are in the midst of change. Today, I want to be honest about the difficulty of self-acceptance as the world changes and we change with it. I'm struggling with this right now, so don't expect tons of tips in tricks in this episode; instead, expect to hear a real, imperfect perspective of a college student going through a lot of weird changes right now! :) Connect with A Genuine Girl! Let’s face it: this semester is far from normal. Whether you’re on campus or at home, taking online or in-person classes, I can’t help but think that we’re all struggling a little bit with our college experiences right now as we attempt to adjust to this new normal. For some, it’s hard to stay motivated in classes. For others, getting involved on campus and finding a social life is challenging this semester. One thing’s for sure: no matter what it is you’re going through, this podcast episode is sure to leave you feeling better than when you came. Today I am joined by Alicia Sepulveda, academic coach and host of The College Life Podcast, who talks all about how we can make the most of this semester in all areas of our lives, from academics to our social life to personal development. There's no doubt that self-care is important, but do you ever consider if it's HEALTHY for you? In this episode, I explain my new mindset toward self-care, why I believe that not all self-care is always healthy in a given moment, and how I've learned to balance productive and unproductive self-care in my daily life. If you're looking to improve any part of your life, you might be surprised to find how much a little self-care can do! Connect with A Genuine Girl! I don't mean to call you out with the title of this week's episode, but I DO mean to make you think... What kind of person are you portraying to the world these days? Are you pretending like you have it all together because everyone around you seems to be perfect despite the current condition of the world? If so, you're not alone. I'm struggling with the same thing, online and in my real-life relationships. So, let's talk about it. How has this time taken comparison to new heights, and how can we stop letting it affect who we portray to the world? How can we just be ourselves without worrying about appearing perfect? In today's episode, I explore all of these topics and more. If you're ready to start being real and stop letting the need for perfection take over your life, your health, and your relationships, then this is the episode for you. Connect with A Genuine Girl! Hey there, long time no talk! I'm so excited to be back on the podcast after a little hiatus. As the fall semester nears, you'll definitely be seeing more college content coming your way soon! So, this little hiatus I went on... What was the reason for it? Well, the main reason why I've been quiet on here lately is because my life has been consumed by my newest project: my book! I'm so excited to announce the publication of my first book, Practice Makes Imperfect, on Amazon (if this description-maker allowed me to italicize that title, I promise I would.) In this episode, I dive into what my book is all about and why you might benefit from it if you're a college student or young adult looking to be yourself without fear of judgment! If you're interested in checking out my book, you can find it on Amazon by searching "Practice Makes Imperfect," or click on one of the following links: Amazon Paperback: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DSTHRTM Amazon Kindle eBook: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F3CYL7N I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to write this book for you, and I hope that it makes an impact on your life. If so, I would really appreciate you leaving a review on Amazon! Connect with A Genuine Girl! We all experience personal development throughout our lives, but I think that we grow the most when we consciously choose to incorporate it into every day. Of course, we know ourselves better than anyone else, but there are always more things to learn and more ways to grow. In today's episode, I dive into a few ways that I have been consciously choosing personal development in my daily life even when it has been hard. From my newfound Enneagram obsession to my self-care activities, I've learned more about myself than ever before since I have added small but mighty acts of self-development into my routine. Hey there, long time no talk! I'm so excited to be back with a new episode for you after a much-needed break and time of reflection. In this episode, I'll update you with what's been going on since we last talked and then get into a discussion about mindset: something that I think has been very difficult for many of us to control during this time! I'm definitely not a mindset expert, but I've been trying to be better to my mind through a few simple changes in my everyday life. Hopefully these can help you through whatever state your mind is in right now! Connect with A Genuine Girl! Hey guys! Today I wanted to have a super honest conversation about what my summer looks like and how my mindset is really affecting my summer plans. Though it can be difficult to see, I truly believe that this summer is one big OPPORTUNITY for all of us to really find and lean into our genuine selves. We have time to do the things that we want to do and be the person we want to be. We just have to let all of the stress and "expectations" of society go in order to do this. No matter what your summer looks like, I encourage you to view it as an opportunity rather than a hindrance to your future! And hopefully this episode helps you see that you aren't alone if you're struggling with the mindset shift. :) Connect with A Genuine Girl! Hey friends! I enjoyed recording this week's episode so much for two reasons: 1) I had an amazing guest; 2) We talked about something that is so relevant for college students all the time, but especially in our world today. As many of us are transitioning to online classes and staying at home (or at least away from the environment we're used to,) it can be super hard to keep a positive and productive mindset to achieve our goals and get our priorities straight. If you're struggling with mindset, priorities, or productivity, give this episode a listen! And remember, you're never alone in how you feel. :) Check out Laura Beth Brown! I just finished my first week of online classes, and I thought I'd give you a little life update along with some tips for making the most of your online learning experience if you're a college student. Honestly, I don't have it completely figured out myself, but I want to keep it real and share what has helped me so far in this crazy journey. Hopefully you get something out of this episode, and if anything, remember that you are not alone and it's NORMAL to struggle some through this transition. Connect with A Genuine Girl! Is your college transitioning to online classes? Is the shift leaving you feeling a little overwhelmed, stressed, and unsure of what to do? If so, you're not alone. I think all of us college students are going through a tough transition right now, and that's why I put together this episode. I'll be talking about 5 things I'm doing to prepare for online classes so that I can go into the rest of the semester with a clear, focused mind and space. Hopefully these can help you start the second half of the semester on a positive foot! Connect with A Genuine Girl! Have you ever found it difficult to balance everything that you have to do as a college student? Do you know what you should be focusing on, and what might not require so much of your time and energy? In this week's episode, I'm joined by my friend and fellow college student Emily Severance to discuss the importance of understanding your priorities and being able to balance these to live your best college life. You'll hear about some of Emily's high school experiences, how those affected the way she came into college, and how she was able to get herself out of a funk her freshman year in order to succeed. Do you have the "sorry syndrome"? This week's episode is near and dear to my heart, because excessive apologizing is something I have struggled with for a long time as a college student. It's so easy for the word to slip out, whether there's meaning behind it or not... And often times, I've found that there's really no reason to say it at all. The things we usually apologize for, in my experience, are the things that make us human - that make us genuine! In this episode, I discuss the potential negative consequences of saying sorry while giving you a lineup of what I'm doing to stop saying it so much. Hopefully it inspires you to stop apologizing so much, too. :) Connect with A Genuine Girl! Do you ever feel a little bit lost on your college campus? Like you don't quite fit in anywhere, or everything you try just isn't working? From trying to make friends to striving for those good grades, having it all figured out in college can be difficult. I try to remind myself that it's okay to fall down and I will eventually find my place if I just keep picking myself back up, but sometimes it can help to have someone who has actually been through it tell you the same. In this week's episode, you'll hear from someone who has gone through what might not be considered a "typical" college experience, but who found her place regardless and has plenty of helpful tips for you to do the same! Katie Hunzinger is a PhD student studying biomechanics at the University of Delaware; this comes after a long road of switching colleges multiple times as an undergrad, turning down athletic scholarships and a full-ride ROTC scholarship, and finally finding her place and graduating at the top of her class before getting her masters and now working toward her PhD. Whether you're single, taken, or it's complicated, relationships in college can be challenging for so many different reasons. Today, I'm finally tackling the topic of relationships with a focus on finding self-love before you can love others. No matter what your relationship status is, I believe that if you don't first love yourself, you won't be able to most effectively share that love with others. Remember, you are so worthy and loved! Especially as college students, living in an environment where it is so easy to compare ourselves to others' seemingly perfect lives, doubt can leave a lasting impact on our performance and experiences in college.
