From the American Revolution to the Olympics and still growing, LGBTQ people have contributed to the success of American Wars, Government politics (federal and state ), Civil Rights, and many more. From those who chose to live their lives out and proud to those who keep their identity to themselves. Their work and words are engraved in the History of our country. Unfortunately, they are often not spoken about, their names are discovered in books, social media platforms, and some not at all. What can we do to acknowledge heroes of all shapes, sizes, and colors without tucking them away because of who they loved or were born to be? Joining the discussion - Jessica Wall - is a Historian who has worked for the House of Representatives and Senate, helping to teach students of all ages and backgrounds, expanding their knowledge on how the federal government works and African- American history. For this week's episode of "Rewine-ing," we wanted to focus on mental health. I think in the Black community, it is not always a comfortable discussion. I know from personal experiences that if you are dealing with depression or a form of mental illness, some think its because you are not praying enough. Some would even go as far and claim you're not spending enough time with God. That if you are depressed, you need to take that to the Lord and pray. I am all for reading my bible, devotion, and the ten commandments. However, I understand that I can have a personal relationship with God and still struggle with my thoughts. Joyce Meyer has a book and teaching series called "Battlefield of the Mind." I have had moments where I had to take time away from people to process what is going on in my life. Many friends see my smile, hear my jokes, and pictures and think I must have it made. Yes, I am blessed, but at times I don't feel like I am. I have my struggles, and when I do feel a mental moment coming, I call a friend or my counselor. I think it is important to have an outlet or someone you can vent too. Depression is something that we have to go through at times alone. I encourage people to try not to stay down and out for long without seeking help. When I feel overwhelmed, I tell my close friends that I'm going to take a "Me" day. If I am still not feeling like myself, I call my counselor. In the episode, my friend Arturo Hill from "Real Tea Real Talk" joined in on the discussion. He works in the field of Sexual and Mental health. Together we opened up about our experience with mental health and finding the recourses to cope. This week, I wanted to shine a light, on how Black LGBTQ Youth are not getting the help that they need for mental support. The rate of professional care and resources for Black LGBTQ Youth is at a low rate. Hey friends and family, Thank you again for the support, the feedback about this Season is amazing. We will continue to work hard and share content that matters to you and our community. For this week's episode, we wanted to talk about Vision Boards. I have a vision planner that is similar to having a poster board. The only difference is I can carry it with me. I think its important to have something in front of or beside you to remind you of your goals. That even if you set something to be done and realize that you didn't accomplish that goal, that's okay. Don't beat yourself up about it. It's part of your journey and testimony. Stay focus. Let us know what you think of Vision Boards. Wine- McBride Sisters - Riesling -
Hey friends! Thank you so much for the support as we head into another season of the Podcast. For this episode, we were joined by a friend of the show Jamir Smith. He is the host of the "Jamir Smith Show Podcast." He has an amazing podcast that is available on many podcast platforms. He covers a range of topics Fashion, Mental Health, and of course the show Insecure. I am honored to have him as the first guest on our Podcast. Let's dive in! We talked about dating yourself. The importance of taking yourself out every once in a while. I know for me I try to treat myself to the spa, my own flowers, and dinner. I feel that if I am waiting around for someone to do that, then I lose my own self-value. Jamir, Ken, and I discussed whether we can find a partner or a potential one on the dating apps. "Grab Your Glasses " and take a listen.
Hey, "Rewiners"- We are Back! We popped open the champagne and toasted to a new season and new growth. For this episode K and J wanted to share what going to the next level/season means for us. Does it mean we change who we are, our circle, or our environment? For me, it seems like moving to another season can be a little "uncomfortable". I heard the saying from a Kirk Franklin song that in order to grow we need some "rain". That's true in our lives. We shouldn't stay in the same place year after year. We need the opportunity to find growth, to find ourselves. The hard part about new seasons in our lives is that some people who we know may not grow with us. I understand that though it may hurt it is necessary. So listen and tell us what you think! Follow us on Youtube: "Rewine-ing the Week" With K &J Gmail: Rewinewithus@gmail.com and JamalSGordon.Com Kings and Queens Segment - We shouted our the black own photographer business man Daylan Stubblefield www.BlakPhotoMain.com
For Season 1 Episode 5 - Season Finale, K and J sing, laugh, throw a little shade and of course sip some wine. This episode we talked about black fathers and shouted out the black owned business Cuddling Ducks Closet. The topic of today’s discussion was focused on unplugging from Social Media and taking time out for yourself. It’s easy to get lost in thought seeing other people post on the gram or Facebook. We go from liking pictures to comparing ourselves to what we see. Also, we discussed why it’s important to spend time to yourself and not feel bad for waiting a day or more to yourself. For the Pour that Out Segment we paid tribute to the Black Trans lives that are being killed and calling in unity and action. #blacktranslivesmatter #blackfathersmatter
Ken and Jamal discuss self image and self love in this episode. They tackle the hashtag “No Fats, No Fems”. They share their views on what it means to them and how it affects the LGBTQ community. There was a study that found that being gay alone is a risk factor for men to develop an eating disorder due to the pressures to be thin. They share their hope for change and respect for all no matter the size or style.
This week we discuss Insecure, friendships, feelings and Trina. All while sipping wine and and providing the laughs. Grab Your Glasses with us and “ReWine “ the week with K & J!
This week is about ghosting. Have you been ghosted or were you the ghoster? Sip with us as we discuss this topic and more on Rewine-ing the week with K & J!
Grab your glasses friends! For Episode One, K (Ken) and J (Jamal) will be discussing their views on blocking. Is blocking an effective way to get over an ex, friend, or someone who has wronged you. Join us while we sip sauvignon blanc and reflect on the highs and lows of the week.
