Send us a textIn this episode, we speak with Evan Benbow, Chief Technology Officer at Nazdar Ink Technologies, about how he's steering one of the world's leading ink manufacturers into a more sustainable future—one practical step at a time. With a background in energy storage and chemistry, Benbow brings a fresh perspective to the print industry. He explains how his early work with batteries and carbon films prepared him for the complexities of ink formulation, where fluid dynamics, pigment dispersion, and material behavior intersect. Now at Nazdar, Benbow is leading initiatives that combine scientific rigor with environmental responsibility. From launching the company's “Nazdar Cares” program to implementing small but impactful changes—like upgrading irrigation systems and rethinking pallet recycling—he's fostering a culture of curiosity and data-driven improvement. He shares insights into solvent reclamation efforts, the adoption of EcoVadis sustainability ratings, and the challenges of reducing Scope 3 emissions—those hidden but significant environmental costs embedded in supply chains and product lifecycles.Benbow also discusses the future of ink innovation, including reformulating UV-curable inks to meet new health and safety standards without compromising performance. What emerges is a picture of leadership grounded in pragmatism and a commitment to long-term impact. “You're not trying to compete with the biggest players,” Benbow says. “You're trying to be better than you were last year.”If you're in print, manufacturing, or simply interested in practical sustainability, this conversation offers inspiration and actionable ideas from a leader who's walking the talk.Listen on:Apple PodcastGoogle PodcastSpotifyWhat is FuturePrint? Welcome to this thrilling episode of our podcast, where we delve into the murky world of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island." In this chapter, "The Old Sea-dog at the ‘Admiral Benbow'," we meet a mysterious and fearsome newcomer at the inn—a grizzled, scarred seaman known only as "Captain." With his arrival, the peaceful life at the inn is thrown into disarray. Our narrator, young Jim Hawkins, gives us a vivid description of this enigmatic figure, from his tattered blue coat sweeping the floor to the haunting sea song that escapes his lips: “Fifteen men on the dead man's chest—Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!” But who exactly is this man, and what secrets does his formidable sea chest hold? As tensions rise and strange requests are made, you'll be at the edge of your seat as you discover why this "Captain" is so intent on avoiding other seafaring men.And when Dr. Livesey, the local physician and magistrate, boldly confronts the Captain, you'll find yourself caught in a tense standoff that promises to escalate further. Don't miss this captivating journey into intrigue and danger, setting the stage for the adventures that lie ahead on Treasure Island!

Where's Michael? The question the family of Christchurch man Michael McGrath is asking, after his childhood friend was found guilty of his murder. David Benbow was accused of shooting the 49-year-old builder in May 2017, because he had begun a relationship with his former girlfriend. McGrath's body and the weapon used have never been found. The former prison guard faced two jury trials, the first one ending in a hung jury. But today, after 18 hours of deliberation this jury convicted him of murder. Niva Chittock was in court.
A long-running case that's ended with a Christchurch man convicted of murdering his childhood friend is being described as unique by a criminal lawyer. It was the second trial faced by former prison guard David Benbow over the disappearance of Michael McGrath in 2017. It followed an eight-week trial in the High Court in Christchurch. The verdict follows six years of investigation and two trials, one ending in a hung jury. Criminal lawyer Steve Cullen told Mike Hosking that this case has been on solely circumstantial evidence. But he says this can happen, and with such a small population in New Zealand, it can be easier to whittle suspects down. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
No emotion from a Christchurch man after he was convicted of murdering his childhood friend. David Benbow has been found guilty of murdering Michael McGrath in 2017. The murder charge was proven with no body, no murder weapon and no forensic evidence. The jury delivered its verdict, after deliberating for 18 hours over three days. The Herald's Sam Sherwood was in court and says McGrath's supporters cheered when the guilty verdict was reached. "Benbow himself was just emotionless when the verdict was read out. His mother, who sat on my side of the courtroom, let out a loud gasp." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of The Jane Anderson Show, I'm so thrilled to interview one of the exceptional women I know, Ronnie Benbow. Ronnie has always had a burning passion for providing a safe, nurturing, healing centre to rejuvenate and educate unpaid family carers experiencing extreme stress and exhaustion. Ronnie is particularly passionate about young children who care since they usually have no choice and receive very little support. Most people do not even realise there are children, often as young as eight years old, in caring roles. Having a background in health and experiencing her own family caring circumstances, Ronnie knows professionally and personally the relentless demands and debilitating stress that family carers endure daily. Prior to establishing the charity, Ronnie, with the support of her husband Michael, was personally funding carer wellbeing programs for 15 years. In 2015, following the passing of her beloved father, Ronnie established The Carers Foundation Australia in honour of her parents to fulfil her dream of caring for carers. The purpose of the foundation is to provide preventative well-being programs to support the emotional, physical and mental well-being of carers, with the aim of preventing health crisis breakdowns. Ronnie is fully committed to raising awareness and the importance of supporting unpaid family carers in our communities. She has worked tirelessly to provide a voice for this often-overlooked sector. At the same time, she works to attract funds through donations, grants, fundraisers, and corporate partnerships since the charity is not government funded. To this date, The Carers Foundation Australia is the only charity that provides wellbeing programs to support Carers FROM 12 YEARS OLD - at NO COST to them; of which Ronnie intends to expand nationally. Because of her dedication, Ronnie has been recognised and has received numerous awards, including a finalist in the Australian of the Year and awarded the Moreton Bay Citizen on the Year in 2021, and more recently, the 2022 Brisbane in Women Awards for Community Justice and the 2023 Heart of Women award for Making a Difference.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The wait is over, it's time to talk about the big 2023 summer bike tour... and it's an established route, but with a brand new twist! Normally, cycling the Oregon and California coasts between Tillamook and San Francisco takes about 16 days. What if we leveraged the fantastic (and sometimes surprising) transit opportunities and made this tour like listening to some of your favorite podcasts... at 2x speed? PDX-SF2x Tour Preview The route My classic favorite... PDX-SF via the Oregon coast The twist Heavy. transit. help. I'm able to get this ride done in half the time with the help of a series of transit agencies starting in Portland and ending in Santa Rosa, CA. What normall takes 16 days is going to take me 8. Assuming it all works. The gear We're going fully loaded Going to try to minimize the weight within that load Going to fly the big bike, so that means a measurable portion of a pannier will hold my Dogsbody Ground Effects bike bag. Flying back and forth on Alaska Airlines, which means the bike is free to fly (I'm MVP and get two free checked bags) Big duffel handles the rest of the gear and will be critical for the transit fast forwards I have to figure out when the last time I had the Safari out west... it's been more than a few years, so this is exciting. The weather Likely a bit of a chill in the air, except for one notable portion Rain is possible, but reasonably unikely this time of year The basics on schedule Fly into Portland on a Saturday night Bus out to Tillamook Sunday late AM Bike and camp at Cape Lookout SP Combination of bike and bus to Newport day 2 to North Bend day 3 to Brookings day 4 to Avenue of the Giants day 5 to Fort Bragg day 6 to Samuel P Taylor SP day 7 All bike to SF day 8 Transit agencies - 8 different ones! Contiguous opportunities all the way to Benbow, CA and then you need to bike Technically only about 66 miles of this route is completely uncovered by transit - and it's up and over Leggett Hill The timing of this is critical because many agencies don't run on some or all of the weekend... to avoid a forced zero, this has to go as is. The compromises Some stellar parts of OR coast South Crescent City Hills + Elk Prairie CG Major chunk of Mendocino coast What I still get Much of the best of OR coast Favorite 2 campsites in OR Brewers on the Bay Seven Devils Bandon Harris Beach - maybe 3rd fave campsite? As the investigation intensified, David Benbow's behaviour prompted questions from close friends, and police exploited his interest in the media coverage with a cunning press release. With the jury asked to consider the importance of Benbow's missing rifle - the alleged murder weapon - the defence dismisses the Crown case as hollow, "like a cheap Easter egg". After playing parts of David Benbow's police interviews to the court, the prosecution makes much of his inability to fully account for his movements on the day - and day after - he allegedly murdered Michael McGrath. But the defence underlines one key fact: there is no physical evidence Benbow did anything wrong. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This time on Behind the Scenes we are in the company of a former BBC Television Channel Controller. Between 2010 and 2017 Kay Benbow was the top flight commissioning exec at the heart and helm of the pre-school children's network CBeebies. In those seven years she navigated the channel through dramatic shake-ups within the BBC, changes in viewer habits and into the new highly competitive, digital age, resulting CBeebies winning 5 BAFTA Awards for Channel of the Year. Kay chats about setting up the CBeebies Arts portfolio which introduced the under 6 age group to the joys of ballet, classical music and Shakespeare, along with recommissioning The Clangers; of hiring Michael Palin and Tom Hardy, her friendship with the great Bernard Cribbins and how she coped with the pressure of programme making decisions which could influence the lives of an entire generation. In May 2017 49-year-old builder Michael McGrath disappeared - almost without trace. No crime scene was ever found. No weapon was ever found. No body was ever found. So how could his longtime friend be arrested and charged with murder? In February 2023, the trial of David Charles Benbow finally began. Benbow stood accused of murdering McGrath because he'd started a relationship with Benbow's former partner, Joanna Green. The prosecution said that, while based entirely on circumstantial evidence, its case was so comprehensive there could be no doubt Benbow was guilty. The defence said detectives were biased, working hard to build a case against Benbow after he was identified as a prime suspect - by Green. We know a quick chat about race, equity, January 6th, sexual orientation, immigration, abortion, guns, social justice or a myriad of other topics can quickly escalate tensions and tempers. The Access Point hosts Drs. Lonnie & Wendy welcome special guests Reginald Benbow & Darren Swain to chat about how to bring your whole self and all your views to work without exacerbating the polarization that already exists. Organizations are naturally political arenas. Add power, conflict, and opinions and you may want to use your vote to get somebody off this island! Connect with Dr. Edmonds & Dr. Morris on LinkedIn. This week, Brittany and Eric chat with theologian, writer, and author Candice Marie Benbow about her book, Red Lip Theology: For Church Girls Who've Considered Tithing to the Beauty Supply Store When Sunday Morning Isn't Enough. To say the book challenges every idea of religion that we've come to know as gospel is an understatement. Candice refers to God not as He but They/Them, she encourages the need for grace by telling her own story of being ‘the other women', and she makes the case that the Bible is a more overtly sexual text than we think. These ideas may come as a shock to most...but what's that old saying? If you scared, go to church!
