Robert Gilbert had it all going for him until he allowed Crystal Meth to enter his life. He came from a good family being raised by a single Mother who worked hard to make ends meet. Trying weed for the first time was not enough and then his high-school sweetheart turned him on to Meth, and his addiction monster was released. Crime sprees to feed his habit, lockup, and all the while being a young parent was not enough to stop him. It wasn't until he faced decades behind bars that he decided to turn his life around. Now, with 5 years sobriety and a beautiful young family he is well on his way towards a productive life for himself. Come with us and we journey into the life of Robert Gilbert and his transformation.
Taking the time to mentor someone and to contribute to their lives is an important function of giving. Many of us have the time, the experience, success to pass along wisdom to those coming up. I believe mentoring is the next step of service. Today I speak on that plus the topic on boundaries. For years I have felt that in recovery you are not supposed to utter the words, I will NEVER drink or drug again. To me...this is this a, “free pass card?” Giving permission for relapses? We must set boundaries, immovable boundaries: When to say yes and no Take control of your life Personal property line (fence) Keeps us in and from going out Set our own boundaries, not other people Gates – Access in and out Drinking/Drugging/Eating boundaries How do you learn to have these – Say yes to the right things and no to the wrong things – choices Don’t let others move your boundaries Immovable boundaries Key is to set the boundary and set the consequence for violating Know they are working when other people are getting frustrated because of your new boundaries Have a great Sunday!
Today’s show is going to be a tough one but should be looked at as a TORCH, A BEACON, A LIGHT OF HOPE. As many of you know I came up through the 12 step recovery program of AA/NA and through the program and fellowships I haven’t found it necessary to take a drink, or drug, ONE-DAY-AT-A-TIME for 7,000 days today! There is hope, lots of it! Recovery News: Eminem Celebrates 10 Years of Sobriety on Social Media Read an email from an anonymous listener – Tales from the Abyss and Hope Read Touchstones reading Friendship with oneself Closing – We can be what we CHOOSE to be, a drug addict/alcoholic/food addict/sex addict/gambler, well….you get it. Once we detox and get away from the crap and get help from professionals where needed we then choose. We can have an amazing life! Regrets will still be there but we can’t change the past and we don’t know if we will be here tomorrow. We have NOW. Now to make the choices that will make ourselves proud. The choices that will bring others back closer to us. It is very real and possible.

Listening to others while they speak shows respect and can help you in your life, and even in business. Brian Tracy authored a book titled, "The Power Of Charm" and it is all about being in the Now, and present when those around us tell us about their lives and events. We don't fool anyone when we act like we are listening but we are not. Practice listening. This episode is dedicated to my 103 year old Grandmother who we just lost a couple of days ago. Have a great week everyone.

Listen as Amy gets REAL and shares her story of, Getting Dirty AND Staying Clean. Growing up in Beverly Hills, Amy Dresner had it all: a top-notch private school education, the most expensive summer camps and even a weekly clothing allowance. But at 24, she started dabbling in meth in San Francisco and unleashed a fiending addiction monster. Soon, if you could snort it, smoke it, or have sex with, she did. Smart and charming, with daddy’s money to fall back on, she sort of managed to keep it all together. But on Christmas Eve of 2011, all of that changed when, high on Oxycontin, she stupidly “brandished” a bread knife on her husband and was promptly arrested for “felony domestic violence with a deadly weapon.” Within months, she found herself in the psych ward–and then penniless, divorced and looking out on a court-ordered 240 hours of community service. For the next two years, assigned to a Hollywood Boulevard “chain gang,” she would sweep up syringes (and worse) on Hollywood Boulevard as she bounced from rehabs to halfway houses, all while struggling with sobriety, sex addiction, and starting over in her 40s.

It’s a new year, 2017 behind us, another year closed out. For many 2017 represented a year of triumph, the year they quit doing drugs, drinking, and overeating. For some it has been a year with another year of great sobriety and learning. Many of us have done quite well without goals, and some with written goals. For me, written goals are the way to go. Did you know that only 3 in 100 have written goals, and if you do have written goals that are reviewed and updated on a weekly basis, you are 42% more likely to achieve those written goals than if you just had them in your head? According to Brian Tracy if you have written goals this is the “Master Skill” of success. Learn the secrets of achieving your dreams in life by the simple act of goal planning and writing them down. Happy New Year friends!!
We have been given so many gifts in our lives. Ordeals to gifts. Fights to Blessings. Spend a few minutes with me today and let's examine what gifts we were given. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays friends!

We need to stick to the basics or we lose sight of who we are and where we came from. It's about recognizing that we cannot "successfully" engage in the behaviors that once gave us comfort, that is until we were nearly destroyed by them. Higher power in the morning, evening, gratitude, fellowship with other positive people, listening to positive message. If in 12 step, doing the step work and working with a sponsor. Meetings help too! I don't speak for any 12 step program. I am a normal guy that got sober on 12 step and know there are many ways to achieve excellent sobriety.
