Today we have Bryan Falchuk on the show. I resonate so much with Bryan's work because it's very much about bettering ourselves, our lives, and our relationships but always through the lens of focusing on what we can control – which is only ourselves… our actions, our reactions, our interpretations. And he shares a life altering concept that we actually have a lot more control than we realize. Bryan Falchuk is a best-selling author, speaker and coach. His first book, Do a Day, teaches the philosophy he developed to find your true motivation, set meaningful goals and achieve them by freeing yourself of judgment of the past and fear of the future. His latest book, The 50 75 100 Solution: Build Better Relationships, helps people see the power they have to make their relationships healthier and happier. Both his books come directly from his experience facing his own barriers so he could move his life forward. Bryan's work has been featured in many top publications like Inc. Magazine, Business Insider, The LA Times, Chicago Tribune and more. He is a frequent speaker at corporate events, conferences, universities and has spoken at multiple TEDx events. Bryan holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, and has been a C-level executive and board advisor in the insurance and tech spaces. We discuss: Why it sometimes takes rock bottom – or as Bryan calls it, a wreckoning – to get us to face our issues. The delicate balance between facing and processing our past and moving forward, and how we tend to get stuck somewhere in the middle. How recognizing our emotions, giving them space, validating them, and picking them apart is the key to moving forward. How taking the time to analyze our decisions and our reactions can empower us to make real change in our life. The interplay of actions and reactions and how a concept in Bryan's book, The 50 75 100 Solution, can help us better ourselves and all the relationships in our lives. How to understand our deeper driving forces so they can help us better understand our decisions, and the same goes for others – understanding they too have deeper internal drivers and how that impacts their decisions and actions. And finally, how to find long-lasting motivation and it's relationship with self-love. I'm sure you've heard the saying: You just need to take it one day at a time. It's pretty solid advice! Now the key question we have to ask ourselves is do we actually implement this strategy as we set out towards our goals. I think that many times we set a big goal or we face a challenging life circumstance and we get intimidated by the size of the task in front of us and we freeze up....and we never truly get started along the path. Today that changes my friends! I'm bringing in my friend Bryan Falchuk to teach us how to "do a day" and start making consistent progress by changing our mindset! Bryan Falchuk is a motivational speaker and author who overcame adversity, lost nearly 100 pounds, ran a marathon, and became vegan all by creating an approach to living a healthy life that he calls Do a Day. Listen in as Bryan and I discuss: His personal rock bottom moment and why he decided to turn things around. The Do A Day philosophy and how we can start applying it to our lives. His suggestion for a first action step for someone that is stuck in a rut and is ready to break out. Bryan Falchuk (@BryanFalchuk) has been an overachiever his whole life. When his life started to crumble, he took a step back, put on his consultant's hat and examined what was holding him back. No long after, Bryan drop a lot of weight, reorganized his daily routine, became a vegan, and developed a life-transformation system he calls "Do A Day." “I felt like an idiot every single day, and that was exactly what I wanted. I grew a lot at Tuck, but the amount of growth I went through during those two years at McKinsey was on a whole other level.” - Bryan Falchuk What We Discuss with Bryan Falchuk: How Bryan escaped the Dot Com bubble just as he was starting his career. Working at McKinsey & Co. as a 20-something who knows nothing. His wife's battle with chronic lyme disease. How Bryan has kept off 100 lbs. of excess weight. The 'Do-A-Day' framework. More About the Show Bryan Falchuk had everything going for him in his career. He avoided the Dot Com bubble bursting by graduating a year early and taking a full-time internal strategy role at Liberty Mutual Insurance. A few years a couple job titles later, Bryan went back to school, earning his MBA in Business from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University. Afterwards, Bryan accepted a consulting position at the McKinsey & Company, where he stayed for nearly three years. Leaning on his experience in the insurance industry, Bryan took himself back into insurance and spent over six yers traveling the globe with UK-based Beazley Group. However, while everything was looking up in his career, life at home wasn't so joyous. For decades, Bryan's wife had suffered terrible, seemingly-unprovoked 24-48hr illnesses. For a day or two at a time, she'd be a sick as she'd ever been, and then it would subside. And in 2011, she suffered another episode, only this time for weeks she wasn't getting better. "It all came to a head on June 30th, when she was down to about 100 lbs. and losing two pounds a day," Falchuk says. "Her doctor called to tell me he was going on vacation for six weeks and he'd check in when he was back. If you do the math on that, she wasn't going to make it six weeks." Bryan says this was his light bulb moment. THANKS, Bryan Falchuk! This episode originally aired on The Meaningful Way Podcast | Episode 51 They did it, why can't I? You've heard those heroic stories of people who found their success in health, finances, careers, relationships — whatever it was — in times that seemed impossible. And yet sometimes it feels like no matter how much you've tried, you've come up short, making the change seem even all the more out of reach. Bryan Falchuk, bestselling author, Behavior Change Specialist, and certified personal trainer, is here to share a transformative new way to achieving any and all your life goals. Bryan went from being obese and depressed to running marathons. He faced nearly losing his wife to illness while their young son watched, to turning everything around. He got his Masters in Business from Dartmouth and rose to a senior executive position in a successful business. He's transformed his life and developed an approach to help others do the same that he teaches in his bestselling book, Do A Day. Today he shares that philosophy with you. Whether your goal's big or small, you don't need a life-altering event to get you on the right track and keep you there. Start by listening to Bryan's inspiring advice and be on your way to achieving your greatness! Key takeaways: The big realization. To truly change you need to change your story. Not the person you are, but the story you tell yourself. Those bad habits that are clouding your story, what do they really say about how you're feeling? The REAL reason you've been delaying to start your new chapter...[5:21]. The turning point.
